"Off the Clock" - Fantasy Animated Series
Project Overview
"Eleven years after hanging up their swords and shields for good, a team of ex-adventurers reunites with their eccentric proprietor to take on one last job - with much higher stakes than anticipated."
"Off the Clock" is an in-development fantasy adult cartoon, following a party of travelling heroes forced out of their retirement when they are made an offer they feel they cannot refuse. What was supposed to be a quick job spirals into a quest wrought with danger, threat and conspiracy, with a minacious antagonist pulling the strings.
It is currently a volunteer student/passion project, but once I am in the position to I would be more than happy to pay voice actors what they deserve for their work.
- "Off the Clock" is intended to be a diverse, inclusive story and LGBTQ+ actors are encouraged in particular. Right now only the roles I desperately need cast are posted but I'll be adding more soon.
- Professional training is not required but a decent quality microphone is.
- If you audition for more than one role it is likely you could be cast as more than one role so please be prepared for that.
*Contains profanity, violence and crude humour but nothing too explicit. Not quite a Saturday morning cartoon but not squeaky clean either."
NOTE: The nature of this project has changed since it was first posted in 2020. If you auditioned for the initial call before it was deleted, please feel free to audition again.

A gentle giant - a little goofy but still with a sort of rustic charm. Loves his wife and children more than anything else in the world.
His voice is deep and clear - the stereotypical 'heroic protagonist'.
[persuasive, almost cocky] Hey, just because you got older doesn't mean you grew up!
[casually] I'm sure Millie will exploit the heck out of that offer. See you soon. [beat] Don't tell your mother I said that.
[hesitant, somewhat anxious] Are we doing the right thing? Going to see them? We’re not going to get dragged into something we’ll regret, are we?
A caring, good-natured woman who just radiates kindness. Lives to help and protect others.
Deep and sultry yet soft, with a Southern accent. Her voice should be like melted butter. Should ideally be able to sing (but we can work around it if not).
Juniper is a trans woman and should also be played by someone who identifies as transfemme.
[a little exasperated] I don’t know if it’s just me, but that whole thing gave me emotional whiplash.
[tense, uncharacteristically bitter] In case you hadn’t noticed, the last time we trusted you didn’t go so hot, did it?
[concerned] Are you alright? You seem kinda spaced out, you feelin’ ok?
A vibrant and free spirited ex-boxer who was far too rough-and-tumble for her high class upbringing. She's a strong, independent woman who don't need no man but she really, really likes the one she married.
She speaks quickly and like she knows what she's talking about (which she does) with a faint New York accent.
[reassuringly] I'm sure it's not just you. [beat] No, you're right, it is just you.
[with obvious concern] But still… Augustus, what kind of ‘job’ is this? Is it going to be dangerous?
[mid-breakdown, rushing through words] I thought I could manage on my own while he was gone but I can’t, we’ve always been a team since the beginning and I’m supposed to be such a strong person so I don’t know why it’s so difficult-
A kind, gentle, well-spoken lady. Extremely soft and well mannered.
An English accent; not necessarily posh but enunciates well.
[fondly] I think our children are influencing you more than you realise.
[confused] How did a bird knock over the trash can?
[quite matter-of-factly) She only has little legs so I brought the bag - she hasn’t peed inside it in a while but you never know.
Multiple child roles between ages 3-9. Please apply with either a demo reel of similar roles or read the lines below as various ages/genders.
More than one person will likely be cast. Actors should have a versatile voice in order to play multiple characters.
When's Dad coming home?
You've been gone forever!
Do we have to go? It was our turn to have people over.
A strikingly beautiful, otherworldly woman who is almost certainly hiding something. Mysterious, a little haughty.
Her voice is smooth and melodic, on the edge of seductive - perfect for teasing those who agree to partake in her games.
[matter-of-factly] It's quite simple. You and I both make a bet, we play best of three, and whoever wins collects their reward.
[tauntingly, songful towards the end] It's not too late to back out, you know.
[also a little tauntingly] But if *I* win, not only do you have to pay up, but you’ll need to double it.
A stereotypically loud, raucous and somewhat overbearing tavern owner. Tends not to let people finish speaking before he reacts.
His voice should be deep and hoarse, on the brink of jolly when he hasn't been drinking (a good reference is the first episode of Critical Role C1)
[laughing] Oh, you’re a brave one, aren’t you? Lookin’ to try the Giant’s Vengeance?
[suspiciously] What business d’you have going down into the old mines?
[a touch of bitterness at the start] Must be that new mayor bringing in folks to poke their noses where they ought not to. No offence to yourselves, of course.
A bright and bubbly but often anxious 14-year-old boy. Not quite as mature as he thinks he is.
His voice is on the brink of breaking and sometimes cracks when he's speaking; he tends to 'waffle' a bit and go on and on when he gets nervous or excited.
[afraid, rushing through and stumbling on words] I was on a delivery at the tavern with my dad - Alban St. John - he’s the blacksmith, you know? We do all the horseshoes?
[still shaken but trying to make the best of it] I’m good, now that I’m not stuck in a spooky cave. What about you?
[ponderingly] Yeah, I like being alone. I mean… Not all the time. I like being alone, but I wouldn’t want to be lonely.
Not overly deep, warm and friendly, with a slight husk.
[in a blind panic] Where is he? Did you find my boy? Is he here?!
[getting choked up, sick with relief] Ben, I’m so sorry… I thought I lost you...
[a little worried perhaps] He seems OK, all things considered. Passed out the second we got home and didn’t make a sound all night.
[genuinely] That kid’s my whole life, you know? I couldn’t stand it if anything happened to him.
Where did y’all ride in from? You don’t live ‘round here, do ya?
