North Bound — Audiobook Narrator Auditions
I’m Matt Scalise, the author of North Bound, a published adult urban fantasy novel set in Philadelphia.
The story follows Detective Evelyn “Eve” Callahan as she investigates a series of missing children and becomes entangled in a supernatural conflict involving Christopher North, the legendary figure behind Santa Claus, and the terrifying Krampus.
I’m currently seeking talented voice actors interested in bringing this story to life as an audiobook.
What I’m Looking For:
Strong storytelling and narration abilities.
The ability to portray multiple characters with distinct, believable voices.
Natural delivery of dialogue, suspense, emotion, and action.
Clear, professional-quality audio recordings.
Reliability and good communication.
Audition and Paid Trial:
Initial auditions will consist of a short, unpaid reading of approximately 1–3 minutes from the manuscript.
After reviewing auditions, I intend to select a narrator for a paid trial recording of one complete chapter at a flat rate of $20.
The trial will help me evaluate narration quality, character voices, pacing, and overall compatibility with the story.
Potential Future Opportunity:
My ultimate goal is to produce a complete audiobook of North Bound. A successful trial could lead to an offer to narrate the full novel under a separately negotiated paid agreement.
This listing is strictly for the initial trial. Participation does not guarantee additional work, and neither party is obligated to enter into a future agreement.
All rights to the original novel remain with the author. Trial recordings are for private evaluation only and will not be commercially used without a separate written agreement.
New and aspiring voice actors are strongly encouraged to audition. Previous audiobook experience is not required. I'm particularly interested in discovering emerging talent interested in building a professional portfolio and potentially collaborating on a full-length audiobook.

Multiple narrators may be selected for the paid trial to evaluate and compare their performances, character voices, narration quality, and overall suitability for the audiobook.
The paid trial is a standalone project, with the potential opportunity to narrate the entire audiobook under a separate, mutually negotiated agreement. Selection for the trial does not guarantee future work.
Voice Actor
Seeking one voice actor to narrate all characters in North Bound, an adult urban fantasy novel by Matt Scalise.
The narrator must be comfortable performing both male and female characters, including dialogue, emotional scenes, suspense, and action sequences.
Distinct character voices are encouraged, but exaggerated accents or cartoonish performances are not necessary. Natural, believable storytelling is the priority.
New and aspiring voice actors are strongly encouraged to audition. Previous audiobook experience is not required.
Initial auditions are unpaid and will consist of a short manuscript excerpt. One or more selected narrator will be offered a $20 paid trial to record a complete chapter.

Evelyn “Eve” Callahan
Gender: Female
Age: Mid-30s
Role: Lead protagonist / Philadelphia Detective
Eve is a determined, intelligent, and hardworking detective assigned to Philadelphia’s Missing and Exploited Children Unit. She’s practical, skeptical, and relies on evidence and logic rather than superstition.
Exhausted by the emotional toll of investigating missing children, Eve is nevertheless relentless in her pursuit of answers. She’s strong-willed, occasionally sarcastic, and unwilling to back down when challenged.
Voice and Performance:
Natural American accent; subtle Philadelphia influences are welcome but not required.
Confident, authoritative, and grounded.
Able to convey frustration, sarcasm, compassion, vulnerability, and fear.
Should sound like an experienced detective rather than an overly dramatic action hero.
Emotional range is important as Eve’s investigation forces her to confront things she never believed possible.
Christopher “Chris” North
Gender: Male
Apparent Age: Mature adult late 30s in appearance
Role: Lead protagonist / Immortal Guardian
Christopher North is a mysterious, centuries-old warrior whose existence inspired the legend of Santa Claus. Originally a Viking, Chris has spent centuries protecting children and confronting supernatural threats.
Tall, broad-shouldered, and possessing piercing pale-blue eyes, Chris carries himself with unusual confidence and composure. He is compassionate but emotionally guarded, burdened by centuries of loss and responsibility.
He rarely loses his composure, but beneath his calm exterior is someone capable of tremendous anger, sorrow, and determination.
Voice and Performance:
Mature, masculine voice with a calm, measured delivery.
A naturally deeper tone is preferred, but not required.
His speech should convey wisdom, experience, and quiet authority.
Able to transition between gentle compassion, dry humor, restrained frustration, and intimidating seriousness.
A Scandinavian accent is not required. Natural and believable delivery is more important than a forced accent.
Chris should never sound like a stereotypical, cheerful Santa Claus. He is a warrior and protector first.
Krampus — Character Description
Gender: Male
Role: Main Antagonist / Ancient Demonic Entity
Krampus is a powerful, centuries-old now demonic creature and Christopher North’s greatest enemy. Cruel, sadistic, intelligent, and calculating, he takes pleasure in tormenting his enemies. He’s a fallen northern guardian that resents chris.
Voice: Deep, gravelly, and intimidating, with an ancient, commanding presence. His voice should feel monstrous without becoming cartoonish. He can shift from quiet, sinister mockery to explosive, thunderous rage. A naturally deep voice is preferred, but emotional delivery is more important.
Narration Requirements
This is a single-narrator audiobook project. The selected performer(s) will be responsible for portraying both protagonists and all supporting characters, regardless of gender.
All genders are welcome to audition. Applicants do not need to perfectly imitate opposite-gender voices. The priority is creating believable, distinguishable characters through tone, pacing, personality, and emotional delivery.
