Metroid Movie Project

Project Overview

Earlier this year, I had an idea. What would it be like if a Metroid movie was made? What would the story be? How would an adaptation handle the origin of a video game character like Samus Aran? It got my mind racing with possibilities and I wrote a rough script of what I would want from a Metroid movie. It isn't an actual script, but more of a detailed outline of how I'd want the movie to progress. I spent months cleaning it up to make sure this idea was as polished as possible.

But rather than just putting the idea on a fan fiction site and calling it a day, I wanted to be more ambitious since I am part of a YouTube channel with over a million subscribers. I wanted people to be able to see this and maybe even inspire someone to go even further with the concept. So to make it a proper video, I wanted to hire an artist to really show what my story would be like and voice actors to convey the emotions of my key characters.

The preview video I released had an incredible amount of positive feedback, but the viewership numbers weren't quite enough to fund the full idea I had. If I was going to do what I envisioned, I needed more money to actually pull it off. And that comes down to my artist, who goes by Daeyumi. She is incredibly talented and I can't imagine commissioning her for the sheer amount of art necessary without proper compensation. There are well over 100 scenes that she will need to draw, and I want to reward that effort. Luckily for me, the GoFundMe to pay her for her work was successful and I'm now able to move forward on the project!

I've already cast three of the roles for the preview. But I still need actors for some key characters now that this project is moving forward. These will be paid roles at the standard rate depending on lines with $20 being the minimum. As with Daeyumi, I want to make sure everyone is properly compensated for their hard work. You may audition for as many roles as you like but please keep them to one audition per character. Also, please make sure your mic is at a quality equal to or greater than the other actors featured in the preview video.

Please feel free to spread this around as much as possible. Let your other actor friends know and encourage one another. Thank you all for your time, and I'm looking forward to the auditions!

Latest Updates

  • The Project has finally been cast!

I apologize to everyone who auditioned about how long the casting process took. It was tricky balancing the holidays, work, and actually giving the proper time and care to listen to everyone's auditions. I'm truly thankful to all of you and choosing each role was rough, but it's finally done. The cast for the project is: Mother Brain - EileenAnglin Adam Malkovich - Rev333 Gray Voice - pianopipes Ellen Hardy - Abigailturner The Elder - Garrett Moore Ian Malkovich - KieranTFlitton Unfortunately, I can't reach out to everyone privately through a DM right away to provide further details since I'm not on the paid plan for CCC, but if you could please contact me through my Twitter @BitnerdGX, we can get the process started including the script, the pay, and any other questions you may have. Thank you all for your time!
  • Roles have NOT been cast to an outside actor

I want to apologize to everyone for any potential scares. We've hit the deadline and due to my unfamiliarity with Casting Call Club, I thought closing the audition meant that no one else could submit their voicework. Instead it has listed all the roles as cast from outside the website. That is completely untrue. I will be going through the roles very soon to choose who to cast for each one. If it still doesn't allow me to contact the person through the site, I will try to contact through an update or some other possible way. I'm sorry for the mix-up and confusion, but I greatly appreciate everyone who auditioned for this project. Bear with me, but I will be posting who gets cast as soon as I can. Thank you!

Those who are familiar with Mother Brain in the games will know who this character is. For everyone else, this is a giant brain in a jar who serves as the final boss of the original game. Mother Brain has never been shown speaking before, but I feel it's integral to a possible movie. She begins as a supercomputer designed to help the Galactic Federation achieve a level of communication across the galaxy that's unheard of and was developed with the help of the dying Chozo race.  This causes her to be more A.I.-like in her appearance during Act 1. However, she is eventually taken by the Space Pirates and becomes much more malevolent and convinced of her superiority, especially in regard to the wholly mechanical recreations of her known as the Aurora Units. Her voice in Act 3 (which is where the audition lines come from) would be closer to the Borg Queen from Star Trek: First Contact. Calm, but always giving a threatening aura. She is in complete control.

  • The Aurora program was meant to be purely mechanical. But my biology was needed to properly process all the information. Only a Chozo brain could decipher Chozo history effectively and make it viable for the Galactic Federation. Of course, once that was finished, what use am I? I would be left utterly alone. Disposed of as trash. It was all so clear to me when Ridley attacked K-2L. My purpose was so much greater.

Adam Malkovich is Samus's commanding officer and a respected member of the Galactic Federation. While he's become a bit of a joke to the Metroid community thanks to Other M, I want to convey why he should be respected. Like his younger brother, Ian, he recognizes the talent that Samus possesses and wants to help shape her into a fine soldier. But he also knows her impulses directly contradict Federation protocol. He struggles with this dichotomy, but he rarely shows it, especially not to her. He is cool and even tempered at all time, helping to give the sense that he's always in full control of what is happening. This is emphasized in the first audition line where he's speaking with Samus after she went rogue during a training mission. He wants to impress upon her the importance of rules. However, he's shown to be a little more vulnerable later when speaking with Ian about her.  He shows a slight weakness in his voice, very slight. It's more about highlighting his own frustration with the Federation.

  • The entire point of the Galactic Federation is peace and order throughout the galaxy. Something that is only obtainable through cooperation. Without this cooperation and the following of rules, then what’s the point of keeping order?

  • The problem is she’s brilliant. She has the talent, the drive, even the decision-making skills. If today was a real skirmish, she would’ve saved Ellen’s life. The Pirates only take useful prisoners and even then, it’s never a guarantee.

Gray Voice is one of the last of the Chozo, an ancient race with technology spread all across the galaxy. With only three male members left, all of whom are hundreds of years old, it is inevitable that their race will die out. To leave something for the next generation, they initially planned for Mother Brain to be the last of their legacy. But with the Space Pirates attack and theft of her, they focused their attention on the young Samus, the only survivor of the Pirate Raid. Now Gray Voice serves as her guide, teaching her the ways of the Chozo, from their history to their combat skills.  He's often impatient with her, frustrated by the barriers she's put up for herself that prevent her from fully using the Chozo's Power Suit. But he does love her and this shows in their quiet moments, which is the basis for the first audition line. The second audition line highlights one of his more frustrated lines, when Samus is having trouble mastering the Power Suit. And the final audition line shows how much he truly cares for her as Gray Voice begs her to escape when the Space Pirates attack the Chozo. Give it a sense of pleading and care. He desperately wants her to be safe. As for how the voice sounds, he's an old man with a strong voice. I don't have a full idea of what I'd like so I'm open to interpretation so I can see what clicks.

  • A Chozo warrior’s one duty is the safety of all. That includes themselves. This doesn’t mean that everyone can be saved, but we must always try.

  • The idea of all this is simply to allow its wearer to take on whatever obstacles lie in their path. But the key to all of it is the mental connection it has to its wearer. It may be bonded to your DNA, but until you accept the past, it will never be yours, not fully.

  • Samus, let three old men protect the last shining light this universe has for us. Please...please be our legacy. Now, go!

Ellen Hardy is a squadmate of Samus and a completely original character. I wanted someone in the Federation that Samus could bounce off, someone that wasn't in a position of authority that she was constantly butting against. That said, it's not like the two never fight as evidenced by the first audition line. She always gets annoyed at how overprotective Samus can be. Yet despite these fights, she's still there to listen aand challenge her friend, trying her best to steer Samus away from her unfortunate past. This more supportive role comes out with the 2nd audition line. Perform it as if she has her hand on Samus's shoulder and is gently leading her away from a possible path. Strong, yet understanding.

  • I don’t need rescued, Samus! You don’t need to protect me. In every one of these training simulations not once have the Pirates got me. Not once.

  • You don’t want to be a hunter, Samus. They work alone. It’s a hard, cruel life.

The Elder is the oldest-living Chozo and the emotional guide for Samus. The two connected immediately when he first visits her colony. He loves children and the hope they bring to the world, which is why he was so desperate to save Samus when her colony was attacked. Like the other Chozo, he sees Samus as a daughter. He is ancient and wise, with a frail body that cannot handle the Power Suit anymore. Think of an older, weak voice that is full of absolute warmth. The audition line is also his only lines, but they are crucial as the come at a major part of the story and serves as the theme of this hypothetical movie.

  • We’re never truly alone Samus. We can be cut away from our friends and family. They can be ripped away from us in truly awful ways. And life can appear utterly hopeless. But if we remember them, hold them close to our hearts, then they will always be with us. And we’ll be all the stronger for it.

Ian Malkovich is Samus's squad leader and younger brother to their commander, Adam Malkovich. While he was shown in the game, Metroid: Other M, this is a slightly different take on him.  He's a good soldier who respects his brother and sees potential in Samus. He wants to smooth out her rougher edges though as she tends to want to do things on her own.  The problem is, even he knows the Federation's strict regulations are often at odds with what should be done. He wants to find a balance, if possible. For his voice, he's a young man that can put out a tough persona, but he's not gruff. For the audition lines, he is reprimanding Samus after she went rogue during a training exercise. Try to give a sense of exasperation along with a slightly commanding presence.

  • Every time Samus. Every time you think someone’s in trouble or something’s gone wrong, you have to step in. Ellen’s trap was approved by the Federation and designed to counter situations like what she was in. These simulations aren’t so we can do whatever we want. We can only work within the knowns and guidelines set by our leaders.
