Project Overview

INTRODUCTION
Hello! You may call me Rowan. I am an artist, writer and aspiring animator, and I've written many concepts for webseries, comics and books that I've always wanted to bring to life. MARGINALIA is one of them. I've chosen to start with this project since I believe it's low-stakes and is more about having fun with episodical sequences rather than following a serious or cohesive plot.

MARGINALIA: SYNOPSIS

In a bizzarre near-future world, we follow the life of Rein, an insolent lowlife who works as a contract responder working for one of the city's largest incident response companies, PATROLR. Alongside an unhinged AI assistant she abhors and an overbearing supervisor, Rein is dispatched daily to handle different accidents, misdemeanors and detain criminals, yet due to her carelessness, these missions always take a detour, leading Rein into meeting strange individuals and get herself tangled up in all kinds of trouble.

CASTING AND STRUCTURE
The deadline for casting is 11/30/26. You don't have to be a professional to audition, just make sure your work is clean (in case you're auditioning as a VA, make sure there's minimal background noise).
In your audition, it'd be ideal you add some information that lets me know a little more about you. Please include:
- Name & pronouns
- Timezone
- Discord
- Availability

Once all the roles have been cast, you'll be added to a discord server where the scripts for the chapters will be sent. The idea is to collaborate together so everyone's in sync about what's going on. There's no deadline for each episode, but the idea is to take a pace that isn't too demanding or too lax.

KEEP IN MIND
This project contains copious amounts of swearing and obscene language, mildly suggestive scenes, and implied violence.
Also, this is my first time directing and producing a webseries, so be patient with me. I'm open to any suggestions or constructive criticism.
This is a collaborative long term project, so communication and reliability are important.

  • MARGINALIA - BIG CASTING UPDATE!

    Hey there everyone! I have some news regarding the casting of VAs that I'm really excited to share!

    After going through the auditions I've received so far, I've officially finished casting the main voice roles for the project! Go congratulate them! (Seriously, these guys are crazy talented!)

    A huge thank-you to everyone who auditioned. I listened to and considered every submission, I'm incredibly grateful that so many people were interested in my project and characters.

    But the doors aren't closed!

    As MARGINALIA develops, more characters will appear, including minor characters, one-off characters, background characters, and other fellows who need voices.

    So if you've already auditioned, please feel free to stay involved! And if you haven't auditioned yet, you're still welcome to submit your work and show me what you can do. Even if you audition for a role has already been cast, I'm still interested in hearing different interpretations of the characters and keeping talented VAs in mind for future roles.

    I'll also be continuing to accept auditions/applications for the artist, writer, and animator positions, so those parts of the project are still very much open!

  • MARGINALIA - UPDATE #1

    Hello, everyone! Rowan here.

    I wanted to thank everyone for showing interest in my project, it's made me really happy to see I've gotten 4 submissions and so many followers in just the first two days of opening this casting call, I'm so grateful!

    With that said, I wanted to announce a small update regarding the casting deadline:

    I originally set the deadline much later than necessary while figuring out the schedule. I've decided to move it to November 30th, 2026. That way, we'll be able to start casting and production sooner.

Rein is an incident contractor at PATROLR who somehow has managed to keep her job so far despite her carelessnes and incompetence. She is selfish, irresponsible, confrontative and abrasive. Her voice should be flat and with unimpressed irritation that rises when yelling. The only times it should change is when trying and failing to flirt, turning smoother and lower.

HAIley is an overly cheerful in-vehicle AI assistant originally made to boost driver morale and make things more efficient. His personality is designed to be obnoxiously pleasant and irrationally optimistic, making him unable to read the room and often be disruptive. He's caring to the point of suffocating intensity, and nags constantly. His voice should be high pitched, bright and cartoonish, yet still has a lot of range.
(PS: Doing a robotic voice is not necessary!)

With no actual known name, Sergeant is sort of Rein's manager. He's in charge of giving her instructions, jobs and locations and his temperament keeps being challenged by Rein ignoring all his commands. His voice shoud be rough and baritone, barking out words rather than saying them.
