Project Overview

What is Lumi and Cress?

Lumi and Cress is about a young girl who’s also a scuba diver. One day, she meets a young undiscovered sea creature who she names Cress! Upon learning that Cress has been separated from his home, she vows to find a way to get him back with the help of the scientists of Cilika Research Center.


Please note - 

Most of these characters can be played by anyone, but we would like to make sure that some characters' identities are represented by their voice artists. So, if you wish to audition for a character with an italicized description in their profile, we strongly encourage voice artists who represent that group to do so.

  • Hello followers of this project!

    The deadline has now been reached, and we've gotten a good amount of submissions. We thank you all for your interest in Lumi and Cress! Now the tables turn to us, and we'll be listening through each of your takes. This may take some time, so please be patient. We want to make sure each and every one of you gets taken into account! In the case where we can't truly decide on a voice for a given character, we may do callbacks. If you're chosen for the role or a callback, you will be contacted to discuss availability! We're also aware that some of you have asked for feedback on your auditions. If we do initiate callbacks, and you're involved in that process, then we'll be sure to talk about certain aspects of your first take so that your retake can excell! I hope everyone is excited! If you weren't casted for a role, it's okay! It's nothing at all against you, and we wish you the best in whatever future endeavors you may pursue. Very boisterous and emotive, as he’s someone trying their best to sound both dramatic and professional at any given time. Can easily lose his cool and raise his voice when challenged. Not in an exaggerated sense, he’s annoying to talk with most of the time but realistically so.


There will also be moments when his presence should be toned down for more down-to-earth moments. He has several conversations about his role and goals for the lab, and he mostly talks about them with his sister Lumi. Basically, be able to go from zero to one-hundred at any given moment.

  • “Hey! Listen to me! I’m telling you that this is going to be the discovery of a lifetime!”

    [He's trying to pitch an idea to the board of scientists, he's going full salesman mode on this, though he's a bit too intense to be effective]

  • “I know it’s been a long time, it’s just that… Things have changed a lot since then. We both know it.”

    [A down to earth moment, take down the energy here, he's trying to console his sister]

  • “Yayyy! Thanks, Lumi! ‘Go girl you got this’ and all that. You know the drill, just send those over to Gabi and they'll do the rest okay bye!”

    [Dismissive and quickly stated, he's practically pushing Lumi out the door. Be quick, but still intelligible]

Mari is a confident, righteous, somewhat flamboyant, young adult. Not afraid to speak their mind, and rarely confronted with a social situation they can’t handle. Frankly put, they’re the partying type!

Mari is often accompanying Lumi when out on the town, seeing as their new to the island. Mari comes across as curious and interested with things that don’t even concern them, and when it comes to their specific interests, they will unapologetically nerd out and get intense.


  • “Hey Lumi, just chill… I got this. (breath in) HEY DUDE, IT’S BEEN TEN MINUTES! WHERE’S HER BISCUIT?”

    [Calm and down to earth in the first sentence, takes a complete 180 after the inhale]

  • “That was one of the reasons I came here… Your mother really had a knack for… Writing in a way that really makes you think, and feel. Her descriptions were vivid and…”

    [Wistfully said, with a certain sense of sorrow or disappointment behind the line. Towards the end, they trail off]

  • “Don’t apologize for being emotional or anything, it’s natural! But if you still want to talk though, that’s totally fine too.”

    [Casually said, trying to cheer a friend up]

Low masculine voice. Somewhat gruff, yet soft in tone and inflection. He’s a gentle guy, and rarely gets particularly riled. Still should be prepared to convey strong emotions of grief when the time comes. 


Most of the time he’s got a jovial attitude, though there’s always an underlying tone of hesitancy in how he speaks. A lot of his outward personality is performance, as truthfully he feels a lot of fear, and wishes to protect Lumi as best he can.


He’s not written to have a Caribbean accent, but if you’re confident in your ability and can make it work, we’d love to hear your take on it.

  • “I told ‘em you were bound to get back here eventually. You know how to work your way out of anything!”

    [Genuine, optimistic, and caring. He's speaking to his daughter, giving her affirmation.]

  • “You’re always too hard on yourself, Lumi… You know that?”

    [A slight amount of guilt in his voice, his tone is taken down a bit.]

  • “I just can’t take seeing you push yourself like this! You’re just going to take yourself deeper and deeper and… You’ll never come back!”

    [Full of grief and fear, cautioning his daughter in a time of crisis. Keep the emotions strong for this one.]

A reserved, yet often stressed member of the Cilika Lab. Works with developing small devices, and has a knack for noticing the fine details of things. Most of the time she’s a bit snappy, but keeps herself from lashing out at others directly.  Capturing the absolute stress and tiredness that belies her conversations is imperative.


When in a comfortable position, like when talking casually with friends, she’s like the calm older sister. Level-headed, somewhat stilted in her words, but overall supportive and attentive whenever she’s included in a conversation.

  • “Wait, Lumi, could you come here for a second? I just need you to hold this core while I screw on this limb…”

    [First sentence, her voice is slightly raised in order to call Lumi over. Second sentence is done while she's doing the task, so her inflection trails off towards the end.]

  • “HA. Don’t worry! I’m not tired and lacking sleep or anything! HAHAHA… I’m kidding in case you weren’t aware. At least let me get some coffee before I do this.”

    [Not ridiculously crazed sounding, think of an exhausted laugh. Last two sentences are entirely deadpan.]

  • “Ohhhh no no no no, DEL! COULD YOU COME HERE?”

    [Panicked, seeing something she did not want to see in the slightest and needing someone to come help expeditiously]

An athletic woman with a lot of spunk. Has a knack for underestimating other people, even if she means well. She’s used to navigating situations by going in head first with clever strategies and plans to get what she wants. Even with her somewhat abrasive demeanor, she loves to crack jokes with friends, and is a good caretaker with her other siblings.


Nemmy has no chill, and is not above a lot of teasing, and sometimes jabs when she’s really pissed. Her voice is not stereotypically gruff, but she’s definitely got a tone of confidence in whatever she says. 


  • “Hey Lumi! Long time no see, right? You were, like, barely able to ride a bike back then haha! … Oh, you still can’t? Pfft”

    [Casual with a slight snarky tone. Genuinely sounds happy to see someone after a long time]

  • “Oh yeah, these guys sure give me the run around. But it's all good, I've been used to that all my life! …I can’t imagine living without ‘em.”

    [Speaking matter-of-factly, but with a caring tone behind what she says. She's talking about her siblings, who she adores.]

  • “...Hey, you need to chill the hell out dude. You think you’re so big and tough? What’s your deal?”

    [A moment of controlled anger, trying to protect someone from a person she perceives as dangerous.]
