Project Overview

You Shou Yan (also known as Fabulous Beasts) is a Chinese manhua and donghua created and updated by Xue Xia Mao Yao Zi. It centers around a variety of mythical beasts living in the mountains of Yunnan in our current time period. With 1000+ chapters, and more still being released weekly, it introduces a large variety of characters, explores multiple time periods, and explores the lore of how the mythical beasts got where they are now!
I personally discovered You Shou Yan through the animated show, and have fallen in love with it since! In wanting to show that love, I have decided that I would like to do an english dub and voice-over of the manhua chapters! With such a massive cast of characters, I felt it was only appropriate to seek out more voice actors to help bring this wish to reality!
We are casting for Cycles 15, 16, 17 and 18 right now, which consists of chapters 85-108. What is a cycle? Here's how it works:
Scripts are written for one cycle of chapters, which is currently six chapters. These scripts will be written a few weeks before voice acting for the cycle is set to begin.
When scripts for a cycle are released, voice actors will have ten days to record their lines for the cycle.
The remaining four days will be spent editing the six chapters into shorts / videos, which will be released a few weeks later on YouTube Shorts, TikTok, Twitter/X, and BlueSky.
The reason behind a cycle being completed a few weeks before its release is to account for unforeseen situations or any potential delays. Not including the scriptwriting, a cycle will typically be completed within two weeks, or 14 days, and will account for two weeks worth of video releases. One on Monday, one on Wednesday, and one on Friday, all weekly.
As for how that relates to casting, there will be a new casting call every four weeks that will feature characters, whether main, secondary, tertiary, alternates, or just outright extras. These casting calls will account for the next two cycles worth of newly introduced characters and extras! It is designed this way so that newly casted VA's will not have to wait long to get started! The earlier of the two cycles would start their VA work within a week of the casting call completing, and the latter of the two cycles would start two and a half weeks after being cast.
How will these roles work for you?
There are four different types of roles, each that would cater to different availability types.
Main Characters are classified as characters that have appeared in over 150 chapters throughout the manhua! For this casting call, we are casting for Tianlu's brother, Bixie! This is another leading role!
Secondary Characters are classified as characters that have appeared in 20-149 chapters throughout the manhua! These characters can often be considered main characters in certain arc's of the manhua, but are not always on the screen. We are not casting for any Secondary Characters in this casting call.
Tertiary Characters are classified as characters that have appeared in 2-19 chapters throughout the manhua. This can mean many things - either they are recently introduced and on their way to becoming a secondary character, or they were really only important for a certain amount of chapters. This could even extend to a background character showing up more than once throughout the manhua. We are not casting for any Tertiary Characters in this casting call.
Extras are speaking roles that are likely only needed for one chapter, or maybe two. Once they have submitted their speaking lines, they are not needed to complete that role any longer.

This is a long-term project. If it kicks off, production may continue for months, or likely years. Please keep that in mind when considering whether to audition or not.

Voice Actor
As a main character, this character shows up most frequently in the manhua. Auditioning for this character means that you are accepting the possibility of having to turn in lines during every single cycle. You would be needed on a fairly consistent basis, and are accepting that you can be able to contribute most of the time you are needed, barring emergencies or general life things getting in the way.

Bixie typically has a deadpan personality, tending to appear bored and disinterested most of the time. Compared to his twin brother Tianlu, he is much more serious and aloof towards mostly everything, especially to those he does not know. This characteristic also extends to him acting cynical or apathetic towards others as well.
His stony personality around others is in stark contrast to when he cares for Tianlu, wherein he becomes protective and much more actively concerned for his brother's safety and well-being. This is especially prevalent during Ancient Times, where the young Bixie would look after Tianlu before himself, to the point of even risking in own life in the process.
His passive, expressionless personality actually hides a serious temper hidden within the beast, and when he is provoked or when things go wrong for him, he can unleash this negative side of himself in an dangerously furious rage. When his anger is present, Bixie tends to go tunnel-vision, acting reckless and ignorant to consequences; this also makes him more volatile and foul-mouthed. It is imperative that there are those who are able to quell his unstable temperament, and talk him down before he does something he may regret. He is also quick to thinking and resorting to violent measures, especially for the sake of protecting Tianlu and himself, such as when he decides to kill Yinjiao and Jinjiao with extreme prejudice simply for being gods, being quick to feeling insulted and attacking Panglangshen and Yongye for threatening him, and immediately attempting to devour Shota and Maki for trespassing in his cave. He can act somewhat annoyed and vexed when he gets justifiably advised not to though.
During the modern era, Bixie was initially clueless upon waking up inside of Tianlu's stomach in his debut, unaware of the present-day circumstances regarding him and Tianlu. Throughout his appearances early on in the series, he has instinctively kept himself hidden from everyone, only coming out of and returning back inside Tianlu's stomach at night when he is asleep.
