Project Overview
Hello again to all my fellow voice actors and creators! It's time to begin a project I have had several requests to make: The Little Mermaid Genderbend Audio Drama! I can already tell that this project is going to be the quite the challenge when it comes to the technical side of things, but I am still very excited to finally be able to work with this idea!
SUMMARY:
18-year-old Arron, the youngest merman prince of the kingdom of Atlantica, desires nothing more than to experience the human world for himself. Having lost his father to human hunters shortly after he was born, Arron cannot understand his mother's hatred of humankind.
One fateful evening, Arron saves a human princess from drowning. This sets off a chain of events that lead Arron right into the evil sea sorcerer's lair. While the sorcerer, Ursulus, makes a potion for Arron to become human, the catch is that he must give up his voice.
Arron accepts, and he reunites with the princess he'd saved, Princess Ericka. But what Arron doesn't realize is that a deal with the devil always comes with dire consequences. Now in a race against time and the sorcerer himself, Arron must use all of his wits to outsmart Ursulus and fight to be heard without a voice.
DETAILS:
1. I generally give about one month to record lines. While I am always willing to be flexible with deadlines as I understand real life has to come first, I also won't wait around forever and will recast if you prove to be unreliable.
2. The only characters that will sing are Arron and Athena, and their singing voices will be listed separately from their speaking voices. Feel free to audition for both, but it is not required. All other characters in the project do not sing.
3. Please give me emotion and feeling in your audition! I have always leaned more towards voice actors who exhibit true passion in their voice.

Cast List Finalized (Part 2)
(Much to my shame, I hit 'Enter' too soon...) Cast List Finalized
Thank you everyone for your patience as I worked to get this project cast. I am beyond overwhelmed at the reception this project received. It was an absolutely amazing moment for me as a creator to log on to CCC one day and see that I had 60 notifications waiting for me in the span of 12 hours. I have never had so many auditions for one of my projects before. This of course also meant that it took much longer for me to get all of the roles cast. Casting is one of the hardest parts of creating projects, especially if you really know what you're looking for. The way I describe the casting process is that it is a puzzle with a lot of pieces, but you are not using all of the pieces and some of them can go in multiple places. I can normally knock out casting over the course of one day, but this one took me about three weeks. My casting process is more than just listening to each individual audition. When the deadline ends, I go through and listen to every audition over again and shortlist the ones that really catch my ear. Then I go through the shortlisted actors and pull up their individual profiles and listen to several auditions for other projects or demo reels so I can hear their range and see if I will be able to direct a good performance out of them. Then I go back and listen to the original audition a few more times. So believe me when I say that I put A LOT of work into casting this project! Now enough of me blabbering. Thank you so so SO much to everyone who has auditioned so far! The response to this project has been astounding! I'm going to go ahead and extend the deadline for auditions until June 30th. However, I am going to use the time between now and then to begin sifting through the auditions I've already received and starting the casting process. The narrator of the story. Because this role carries much of the project, your voice should be smooth and pleasant to listen to. It is your job to keep readers engaged, so give life to the words. As a director's choice, do not sound monotone but add many varying levels. Narrate as if you are watching the action unfold right in front of you. Tell me a story.
This is a 33k+ story and a good chunk of it is narration, so please be prepared to record a lot of dialogue.
Because there are so many male roles in the story, I am looking for a female narrator.
In truth, Arron did enjoy singing and he was really good at it. Sometimes, his emotions would build up so much in his chest that they had no choice but to leave in the form of musical notes. But when he was REQUIRED to do it, it became a chore and he lost interest.
White-hot pain engulfed him as he felt his tail ripping in two and he couldn’t help screaming in agony. The whole process only took about fifteen seconds, but Arron could’ve sworn the torturous experience lasted an hour. His screams were suddenly cut off when he realized that he had forgotten one crucial detail about transforming: humans couldn’t breathe underwater.
Arron looked at the person the animal had run over to, and his breath caught in his throat. While he was aware that he’d never seen a human woman with his own eyes before, he couldn’t imagine any of them being more beautiful than the girl on the deck.

The youngest merprince of Atlantica, Arron's spirit is as fiery as his bright red hair. He has been interested in the human world his entire life and makes frequent trips to scour shipwrecks for human items which he keeps in a hidden grotto. One night, he peeks aboard a traveling ship and falls hopelessly in love with the kind and beautiful Princess Ericka. When the ship is caught in a storm, he saves Ericka from drowning.
Arron's mother finds out about the incident and destroys his entire collection of human items. Devastated, Arron goes to the sea sorcerer, Ursulus, who gives him legs in exchange for his voice. Upon going up to the surface, he reunites with Ericka and the two of them spend two days together, falling for each other more and more. But then Ursulus begins to interfere and Arron must fight to keep his life and save the entire ocean from the sorcerer.
While on land, Arron learns to communicate using sign language which will be spoken lines with reverb.
Arron's voice actor will also provide sound effects for Varian, Ursulus's human counterpart.

The princess of the human kingdom, Ericka is very kind and beautiful and Arron is smitten at the very sight of her. She is most at home when she is out on the ocean and she spent much of her time growing up learning how to properly sail a ship. Her parents were lost in a shipwreck four years prior, and while she misses them, it never dampened her love of the sea.
When she meets Arron, she immediately takes him under her wing and helps teach him sign language so he can communicate with her and the rest of the palace staff despite being unable to speak. After finding out that Arron is a merman, she works with his brothers to save the entire ocean from the evil Ursulus. This earns her the respect of both them and Queen Athena, and it convinces Athena that she is a more than worthy for her son to marry.

An evil sea sorcerer, Ursulus was banished four years before Arron was born for practicing dark magic. He was believed to be dead, but Arron then finds out the sorcerer is very much alive. Ursulus gives him human legs in exchange for his voice under the condition that Arron receives a kiss of true love from Ericka. Unbeknownst to Arron, he is simply a pawn in Ursulus's much larger game. Ursulus sabotages the deal because he knows that Queen Athena will do anything to save her son, and he wants revenge on her for banishing him. After acquiring Athena's power, he is defeated by Ericka with the help of Arron's brothers.

While she knows that someone saved Ericka from the shipwreck, she questions Ericka's infatuation with someone she knows absolutely nothing about. After meeting Arron, she encourages Ericka to put aside thoughts of her mysterious savior and pursue a relationship with Arron instead. It's quite clear from the very beginning that she adores the two of them together.

For many years, she has harbored a deep hatred for all of humankind as a result of her husband, King Triton, being killed by fishermen shortly after Arron was born. However, seeing Ericka help her sons defeat a power-hungry Ursulus makes her realize that all humans are not as bad as she thought.

Queen Athena's advisor and court composer. She is very easily stressed and so she is also quick to lose her temper. Even though Arron drives her crazy almost all the time, she still cares very deeply for him and assists him in romancing Ericka so she will fall in love with him. Her biggest pet peeve is when Arron calls her 'Siri'.

A female seagull and a friend of Arron's from the surface. Scuttle is very hyper and eccentric to the point where Sirena can't stand her. She is a self-proclaimed expert on human items, so Arron brings each of his treasures to her in order to learn what they do. Of course, when Arron becomes human and brushes his hair with what he thinks is a 'dinglehopper' that actually turns out to be a fork, he realizes to his horror that Scuttle is actually completely clueless about human items. Scuttle is the one who organizes the creatures of land and sea to disrupt Ericka's fake wedding to Varian who is really Ursulus in disguise.

Wow, this is special! This is very unusual! It’s a dinglehopper! Humans use these little babies to straighten their hair out. You should see what kind of hairstyles some of these women are walking around with.
I was flying. Well, of course I was flying. And I saw the groom, only he wasn’t the groom. I saw the sorcerer watchin’ a mirror, and he was singin’ with a stolen set of pipes! Do you hear what I’m tellin’ you? The princess is marryin’ the sea sorcerer in disguise!!

The eldest son of Queen Athena. Adonis has a deep hatred for humankind that almost rivals his mother's as he was the closest to his father and felt the loss much more strongly than the others. As such, he is very temperamental, but at the end of the day, he still loves his brother even if it doesn't seem like it. At the very end of the story, Arron secretly realizes that Adonis is beginning to fall for one of Ericka's servants.
