King Kong: The Eighth Wonder of the World

King Kong: The Eighth Wonder of the World

Project Overview

From Dino Stomp Productions who brought you Hewy's Animated Movie Reviews, comes a multi-part audio drama adaptation (which will eventually be combined into one whole video) of one of the greatest adventure stories in cinematic history!

King Kong: The Eighth Wonder of the World!

Premise:

Taking place in 1947, wildlife filmmaker Carl Denham, along with his compatriot, Proffessor Arthur Russell, embark on the greatest expedition of their lives. Taking the best people they know, including Captain Englehorn, his first mate, Jack Driscoll, as well as esteemed journalist Anne Darrow and her fellow photographer, Daniel Llywellyn, they travel to the mysterious Skull Island in hopes of documenting the discovery of a lifetime... However, little do they know that this island hides a titanic secret... one which that will make them wish they had never ventured into the home of the Eighth Wonder of the World.

Audition Rules

#1. Always have a clear HQ microphone. (No low quality microphones please)

#2. No background noises! (No bumps, static, hums, or air hissing noises in the background) This is why I recommend a Pop Filter which also applies to Rule #3.

#3. All mics must include a Pop Filter. (It really helps with suppressing microphone bumps, whenever you do P's or B's or when you emphasize certain words)

#4. Stay in character, focus your energy into your role and acting. (In other words put yourself into the character's shoes, BE the character)

#5. Use a Skype or Discord. We can call and chat for practice line readings, deliver back and fourth dialogue readings, and make other added additions to the rather small/big cast in this story.

A man now in his mid-fifties, Carl Denham is an aging wildlife filmmaker who wishes to have one last great adventure before his retirement, and he sees filming the mysterious Skull Island and showing it to the world as just that. He is a proud showman, and stubborn as only a native son of New York City can be. His charisma, charm, drive and ambition all bely a man who's ultimate goal is to make a big discovery that will ensure his name go down in history and be remembered forever.

  • Well gentlemen, I must say how grateful I am to all of you. It’s been a difficult few weeks, I won’t deny that, but what we’ll be bringing back to New York, are sights of creatures that folks have only ever dreamed of, and it’s down to your bravery and commitment that has made it all possible.

  • You hit the nail right on the head, old boy. This island is one of the few parts of the map that has yet to be explored in its entirety, and we’re going to find it, film it, and show it to the world. This will be it, Russell. The big one. My last. Great. Adventure!

  • *chuckles, shouts* Well, you heard him! We're millionaires, boys! I'll share it with all of you! Why, in a few months, his name will be up in lights for all to see! KONG! The Eighth Wonder of the World!

First mate of the USS Venture. Driscoll suffers through past trauma due to surviving the attack on Pearl Harbour in 1941. His voice is somewhat gruff, due to closing himself off to others caused by the trauma, but becomes more open and gentle when his feelings for Anne Darrow develop.

  • You don’t like him either, huh? Good. For a minute, I thought I was the only one.

  • *scoffs* Frankly, Miss Darrow, all this butting into other people's business will do is eventually get you into a load of trouble. And furthermore, if you know what’s good for you, you’d do best to stay out of my way AND my business throughout the rest of this voyage, or else you’re going to regret it.

  • That’s putting it lightly… I could have killed someone… I almost risked everything we came here for. But… I just couldn’t bear the thought of what they might have done had we allowed them to take you.

A young journalist who boards the USS Venture on behalf of the Royal Geographical Society to take record of the expedition. A young, no-nonsense, headstrong woman with a heavy English accent who has a large amount of curiosity and awe. However she soon develops a sense of dread and paranoia as her experiences on Skull island and afterward continue on.

  • You wouldn’t be the first. Father’s tried to keep me distant from the Society’s matters since I was a girl. Felt it wasn’t proper for a lady to hold such interests. I had to enter journalism school under my mother's maiden name to keep him from finding out. Now he’s giving me a chance to prove myself by covering the expedition.

  • Well, I am very sorry to disappoint you, but I do intend to continue my job, as a reporter, to record everything that happens on this voyage, whether you like it or not! So, what do you say, Mr. Driscoll, should we both try to do our jobs effectively and without interruption?

  • I just came here to apologize. You were right, I was trying to get some kind of story out of you, but it was only because I felt that, whatever you might have experienced in your life, then perhaps, it could be something I could relate to.

A veteran of the First World War and an old explorer at heart, genuinely curious, dependable in a crisis, has a more matured voice with a British accent, and is practically the smartest and most educated man in the room. Though he questions Denham's methods, he's willing to go along with them, as long as it is for the benefit of science.

  • Ah, Colonel Carl Denham, United States Army Air Service, 1st Day Bombardment Group. 1916 to 1919. AND Chief of Staff for the Fifth Air Force's Bomber Command. 1943 to 1945. How delighted to see you again. Do sit down.

  • You hired a WARSHIP!? Denham, are you sure such a vessel is necessary for such a simple expedition?

  • Now Captain, let’s not brush it all aside. Remember, this island has been left undiscovered for millenia, so it is possible that this ‘Ape’ could have survived here without anyone noticing.

Captain of the USS Venture. A middle-aged, by-the-books man who expects things to go smoothly on board his vessel. A veteran of war, he is fully capable in a crisis and has a strong, low, commanding voice, though shows genuine respect when it comes to his fellow officers, including Carl Denham.

  • *sighs* Look, Carl, I’ll do my best to get you and Sir Arthur to this island, IF it does indeed exist, but I’ve been dragged to too many off-the-charts scraps of rock to go gettin’ my hopes up now.

  • “There are worse things than demons in the dark corners of the Earth.” That’s what my father used to say to me. However, there are some on board who think the whole thing is a total crock, just the ramblings of a dehydrated sailor out of his mind. Frankly, I don’t blame them.

  • Oh, I’m pretty sure, Denham. Besides, SOMEONE has to keep Miss Darrow and her photographer out of trouble.

Chapman is a Spiv (a Britsh black market dealer during World War II) and in his mid-thirties. His voice should be smooth and be quite the fast talker sometimes, as if he were a salesman. He should also have a Cockney accent, but not too heavy of one.

  • Eh now, that hurts, Squire. I mean, I might do the odd ducking and dealing every now and then, but I’ve never ripped me customers off. Nor would I for our good Captain here. I mean, those rifles didn’t just fall off the back of a lorry, ya know. *pause* They had to be pushed.

  • ‘Ey now, I never said I was gonna chicken out. I mean, you can’t leave a mate behind, even if it is a bird.

  • *chuckles* I get yer predicament. I heard from Ol’ Sharky what he heard from one of the blokes from the shore party ‘bout the whole ‘Golden Woman’ fiasco what happened on that island there. ‘Specially with Driscoll jumpin’ the gun like that.

The ship's cook, Shark Fin is a strong man with a light sense of humour, afinds with a heavy Irish accent, but can be very tough and serious when the situation calls for it.

  • ‘ey, now, watch where ye goin’, ya great idiot, I… Oh, it’s you, Denham. Beg pardon, sir.

  • Ah, my favorite, Sandy Dogfish! Caught fresh just this mornin’! They’ll make a fine supper for this evenin’!

  • *chuckles* I don’t let the blood go to waste. I pour it back into the stock. That, and I add in some garlic and thyme to give it a bit of kick. Old Chinese recipe with a bit of Irish flare added to it.

Chairman of the Royal Geographical Society and Anne's father. Direct and firm, older gentleman, smooth commanding voice, yet shows a caring side when it comes to his daughter. Headcannon Voice: Tywin Lanister (Game of Thrones)

  • Yes, it’s all very intriguing, Sir Arthur, however, we do feel there are some concerns over this venture.

  • *clears throat* After careful consideration, Mr. Carl Denham, this society has decided to allow this expedition to proceed forward. We shall provide whatever amount of funding you will require.

  • And you believe this find of yours is worthy of such preservation, do you?
