Queen of Lothian

Accent: Scottish, quite plain voice. The least beautiful (rather homely) sister of the trio, she is respected as a powerful Queen and a fearsome woman. Her voice is authorative and commanding.

Jealous of her two sisters and power hungry. She kidnaps Gwydion from his mother, hoping to raise him as a vehicle to kill Arthur as she can bear no children of her own. She seeks power and her own interests, and will stop at nothing to obtain these.

  • Morality is of no importance. It does not play a part in the happenings of our kingdom, as you'll recall. You will kidnap the child, no matter the consequences.

AUGUSTINE (of Canterbury)

Benedictine monk

Accent: Roman (so like a less stereotypical italian accent). Unlike his fellow monks, he manages to get a good grasp on the anglo-saxon tongue and doesn’t mispronounce it.

Brief history: A monk from Rome, he was sent to Kent to help Queen Bertha spread christianity. She built a monastery for him, from where he became the first Archbishop of Canterbury.

  • “I respect that you do not wish to take on Christ… But please, my son, do not defile our God as long as we do not defile yours.”

ARTHUR PENDRAGON

King of Dumnonia Accent: Cornish, more mellow and subdued than his father’s because of Welsh upbringing. Several variations of the quote could be in store, as we follow Arthur from age 6-40. Exact ages we see him at found underneath.Brief history: After an attempt on Arthur’s life when he was six, his father sent him to his King cousin in Wales. Arthur is brought up there, as Prince Arthur heir apparent. He later inherits the throne from his Father, but after discovering his sins he becomes a christian, as Jesus forgives where the celtic Gods do not. This leads every other kingdom to despise him.

  • 15 YEARS OLD “Gods… What! Morgana? H… How? This can’t be… This can’t be…”

  • 20 YEARS OLD “He was nearing the end of his life, but this news is still a blow. I’ve never heard of Saxons so far in-land.”

  • 30 YEARS OLD “I, Uther Pendragon, offer the hand of my fair sister Morgana to your son. May they live long and bear many children!”

Role assigned to: whitelash

Respected druid, rarely gets angry, but when he does… Earned the nicknamed “Mordred” from the Saxons, meaning Evil counsel. He adopts this name to travel through Britain with no one recognizing him.

Accent: Almost undetectably scottish accent as he often travelled outside of Scotland, not allowing him enough time to adopt their accent fully. Slurrs when angry.

Arthur and Morgana’s bastard born of incest. Kidnapped from his mother by Morgause, Queen of Lothian (Scotland today), he is raised as a celtic pagan Druid and is madly devout to the faith. At first he seeks out his father, but things get a bit tense when he learns Arthur converted to Christianism. Also, his incest psychopath genes kick in at around that time.

  • My name is Gwydion. Son of Queen Morgana, a druid to the Gods. I come to you with an... offer.

Duchess of Cornwall/Queen of Dumnonia
Accent: Cornish, thick accent but not unpleasant. Slightly noble background, Stunningly beautiful. A sister of Vivianne’s and Morgause’s, she married Gorlois in an arranged marriage. She hated him. Subsequently she had an affair with Uther when they met at a banquet, and then pushed her husband off a castle battlement.

  • Marry for the love you bear her, Arthur, not how prestigious her father is.

BERTHA OF KENT

Queen of Kent

Accent: Frankish, just do your best french accent with a hint of german.

Brief history: Bertha was a Frankish princess, the daughter ofCharibert I, and great granddaughter to the first king of the Franks Clovis. A devout christian, she helped push the Saxon kingdoms in England to become christians.

  • Around thirty-five: “You will have sanctuary and food between my walls, as we are part of Christendom.”

  • “I shall do so if the Lord wills it.”

  • I’m toying with the idea of including ancient dialects in this. If you’re feeling brave: “Fille de grand lignage suis, non folle pute garconnière.”

An anglo-saxon pagan bishop
Accent: Old English, so a mix of german and scandinavian accents probably.

Brief history: When his parents died he turned to the Gods and paganisms, and swore to be more pious as to avoid any more tragedies. He is one of the most powerful and influential (and dangerously devout) pagans in Kent.

  • “There would be nothing more pleasurable to me in Britain than ousting the Christian rabble.”

Chief Priestess of the Mother Accent: Sweet and seductive, perhaps slight irish tinge (unless it doesn’t work). She is a highly intelligent woman, and strong-willed.Several variations of the quote could be in store, as we follow Morgana from age 11-45. Exact ages we see her at found underneath.Brief history: After the attempt on Arthur’s life, Morgana’s aunt Vivianne (Noble of Irish Kingdom and Priestess of the Mother, a celtic Goddess) proposes to have her come with her to Ireland and teach her the ways of the celtic pagan faith. Uther and Morgana both accept, and she becomes one. Later on, as Vivianne is getting older, she suggests Morgana, who proves how intelligent and devout she is, should succeed her as Chief Priestess. She accepts, and a several year training begins: sealed by, to please the Mother, a one-night stand with one of noble blood. This fertility rite, unbeknownst to Morgana, involves Arthur, her brother. They lay together, and then in the morning recognize each other: horrified, Arthur returns to Wales, and Morgana discovers two months later she is pregnant.

  • “I would not say I am ready, no. But it is the god’s choice, above all, and not mine to make.”

  • “You were a fool to try and rape me, Accolon. Never underestimate a powerful woman.”

Role assigned to: majormeerkat

Respected general, quiet and grim. Reserved.

Accent: Irish. Noble upbringing, and eventually a Prince as he marries Guenevere’s sister (equally beautiful but unkind) sister Elaine. He at first as a quite noble accent but then goes full on to try and impress Guenevere.

Vivianne’s son and Morgana and Arthur’s cousin. Fears his mother and most strong woman like Morgana, so falls for soft Guenevere. He is also ashamed of his homosexuality with Arthur, and later Accolon.

  • Her beauty is striking, but I feel something's off with her.

  • Arthur... Would you truly lather your hands in my blood for a petty dispute?

King of Dumnonia (Modern day Cornwall)Accent: Cornish, quite rough but still refined as he’s royalty. Brief history: The most powerful and respected king in Britain, this earned him the title Bretewalda among the other kingdoms. Uther’s elder brother Aurelius inherited the throne when their father Constantine the Second died. His brother, later poisoned by a saxon spy, leaves the role of King of Dumnonia to Uther. He lead successful attacks on Ireland and the Saxons, with the help of a subject Gorlois, Duke of Cornwall. Unfortunately, on one banquet celebrating the Saxons’ dwindling numbers, he meets Gorlois’ wife Igraine: the most beautiful woman he’s ever seen. They have an affair, which Gorlois quells with threats of war. Igraine, however, kills her husband (an arranged marriage she was displeased with, plus Gorlois had become infertile and she had no son). She marries Uther, and they have a son Arthur. Along to the family she brings her five year old daughter Morgana, Gorlois’ daughter, who becomes Uther’s step-daughter.

  • 40 YEARS OLD “So be it. Arthur will go to Wales, where my cousin can raise him to be a worthy heir.”

Queen of Dumnonia

Accent: British accent. Mellow and noble, soft-spoken and shy from daddy issues. Her father didn’t love her and she never had a mother, so she was brought up in a cold environment and is damaged mentally. Has a speech impediment, and sometimes stops at strange places in sentences. Also has mild aphasia.

Brought up by a father who never loved her, she is intensely anxious, shy, has panic attacks and agoraphobia. Her inability to have a child with Arthur sends her into depression and she cheats on him with Lancelot, a celtic general.

  • What will... I do...? If I can't bear... him a child, we'll live in shame... It could even spark up... a revolution!
