Kagurabachi Manga Dub - Cloud Gouger Arc

Project Overview

Hello!

We are putting together a manga dub for Kagurabachi. We will be going arc by arc, starting with the Cloud Gouger arc (chapters 1-18). We will hold auditions for coming arcs in the future, so keep an eye out! This will be posted to YouTube and possibly reformatted for TikTok later down the line. Credits of course will be provided per every actor’s specifications and requests.

Feel free to do AABBCC format or whatever variation. I’m not married to a specific format, just whatever showcases what you want to show us. However, if you ARE doing AABBCC, make sure your readings for each take of the same line are DIFFERENT enough to warrant having two takes. Make fun and different choices!

Must have:

  • Discord (our main method of communication, if this does not work for you please message me or specify in the description of your audition)

  • No background noise/static

  • A good microphone or a way to access a good microphone for final recordings (As we want to make our sound designer's life as easy as possible, sound quality will play a huge role in our decisions!)

  • Do NOT have to have read fully through the series at the time of auditioning, BUT it is heavily encouraged if cast and there will be some minor spoilers in some character descriptions

Feel free to audition for as many characters as you’d like. Especially the background voices down near the bottom, which will detail what we’re looking for.

Chihiro and Sojo are already cast. Sorry to those who were looking forward to auditioning for them! There are plenty of amazing characters!

Kunishige Rokuhira

The late father of the protagonist, Chihiro Rokuhira. The story sets up with his death, but the story revolves around him and his legacy in a sort of way that he haunts the narrative. He is an extremely important character despite his fate in chapter 1, having a history with or an effect on just about every character in the story and being in countless flashbacks.


He is Japan’s most renowned swordsmith, having forged extremely powerful magical katana known as the Enchanted Blades to turn the tide of the Seitei War ending in Japan’s victory. His death at the hands of the Hishaku would drive Chihiro onto a path of revenge to confront the Hishaku and retrieve his father's blades that were stolen.


He is overall a very silly, carefree, and lackadaisical man, shown from his chummy yet strong relationship with Chihiro and his ineptitude for household chores, but when it comes to his work or serious matters, he is a very different person. In his workshop, he is a dedicated and serious craftsman, fully committed to his work and utterly without humor. He is wholeheartedly devoted to his forge, his son, and the fate of Japan during the time of the war.

Togo Shiba

The mentor figure of Chihiro, and his late father’s best friend. He is a former member of the Kamunabi, the governing organization over sorcery in Japan. 


Shiba is an easygoing and laid-back individual, especially around his friends such as Kunishige, casually engaging in banter with them. Even in precarious situations, Shiba is able to maintain a casual exterior, while internally staying calm and observing the situation. His sorcery has very supportive abilities, having impressive feats using his utility to aid Chihiro and others in battle. However, he knows how to use them for offensive capabilities, and he doesn’t hesitate when he needs to.

Char Kyonagi

The last survivor of the Kyonagi clan, a people who possessed rapid regenerative abilities such as being able to heal broken legs or severed limbs and were hunted because of it. She faces torturous experimentation from Genichi Sojo, the main antagonist of the arc, and is allied with Chihiro and Shiba for protection.


Char was an exuberant child, energetic and happy, and readily and regularly expresses excitement for delights like food. She is fiercely protective of her secret, however (being the clan she hails from), fearful of anybody knowing about her abilities.

The owner of Cafe Haru Haru, an establishment where sorcerers can connect with Yakuza leaders or major corporations in need of their services. She is another ally of Chihiro and Shiba in gaining information about the Hishaku and the Enchanted Blades.


She is overall a kind and helpful individual with moments of informality among those she trusts. She’s very casual, engaging in back-and-forths with Shiba and being very enthusiastic in her interactions with Chihiro. She sympathises with Chihiro's mission, and uses the tools at her disposal to help him where she can.

Soshiro Azami

A current leader of the Kamunabi and close friends with Shiba and Kunishige back during the war. He helped Kunishige find refuge and go into hiding following the war and he aids Chihiro on his current quest by giving him inside information on the Kamunabi and their intelligence.


Azami holds loyalty both to his closest friends and to the security of the nation through the Kamunabi. He is a well-mannered, confident, and mature individual who carries himself with composure in nearly all situations. On the battlefield, however, Azami is a cold and merciless combatant that dispatches his enemies without hesitation or displaying emotion, known by the title of Executioner.

  • So… Sojo even has his hands on Cloud Gouger. Unbelievable. I’ve been getting the weirdest feeling. Openly putting the Shinuchi up for auction and issuing that bounty… It’s so brazen. It’s just not how Sojo operates.

  • The muscles and bones of both my arms are shredded. The Shinuchi’s powers are ridiculous. Unfortunately, that really limits what I can do. Pretty soon, it’ll probably get worse too. But even so… I can still hit you.

The leader of the Anti-Cloud Gouger Special Forces, a specialized squad from the Kamunabi formed to oppose Sojo and his Enchanted Blade, Cloud Gouger.


Hagiwara normally cuts a lackadaisical figure, talking casually with those above him such as Shiba or Azami as well as with fellow members of his squad, but can instantly grow serious when the moment requires it.


SPOILERS AHEAD: His personality took a sharp turn for the worse after awakening from his coma incurred after his loss to Sojo, becoming more deranged and nihilistic. He’s distantly aware his whole squad had died, but he starts to use Kugura’s mask and speak to it like an imaginary friend, trying to rouse him back into action. While this isn't part of the current arc, actor would obviously need to play both sides of him.

Kugura is an energetic, outspoken, and hot-blooded person. He would fidget often and keep moving rather than remaining still— a few screws loose, all things considered. His exuberance remained in combat, where he fought at the front with the same level of enthusiasm.

Harima is primarily a more casual figure among her squadron, bantering freely with her squadmates and is far from reserved with her emotions. In battle, Harima drops her previous more casual attitude in favour of a more focused one.

Kazane tends to come across as aloof and unapproachable, particularly towards younger individuals with potential like Chihiro. He typically sports an “I’m better than you” attitude. In battle, he’s far more serious, focusing solely on the fight and expressing concern that he could not help as directly as his comrades.

A sorcerer working under Genichi Sojo, the main antagonist of the arc. He’s sent by Sojo to capture Char after she escapes from the experimentation facility to bring her back, engaging in battle with Chihiro.


Norisaku is a cruel individual with little value for human life. He verbally berates Char and will stoop to nasty means to succeed in his mission. However, he does show remorse after the fact and set out on a path to quit sorcery altogether and become a better individual.

The leader of the Hishaku, the organization that killed Kunishige and stole the Enchanted Blades. He is the primary target of Chihiro’s revenge.


In almost all situations, Yura is an incredibly calm and collected individual. He is able to keep his composure under any situation; even losing his own limb. He is also incredibly dedicated to his goals, particularly of wielding the Enchanted Blade Magatsumi. His decisions are at times quite risky, even putting his life up to a coin toss one time.


This character is not a major force in the story in this beginning arc, but he is extremely important later on as one of the main antagonists of the overarching story.

He is a solemn, calculating individual who we currently do not know a lot about. He primarily acts with a stoic nature, though has shown slight moments of amusement during moments of violence. He has been seen operating logically and pragmatically, calmly testing numerous strategies against strong opponents.

Izaru is brash, mean-spirited and quick to anger, with little-to-no composure and an almost perpetual scowl on his face. He is the most vocal of the leaders in his distaste for the Rokuhira family. Even with his hot-bloodedness, Izaru is still rational, if pragmatic, making smart decisions in the face of pressure and danger.


This character is not a major force in the story in this beginning arc, but is important in future arcs.

Ichiki is dedicated to ensuring security and order within the nation. He is a vocal proponent that the Kamunabi's goal should be to educate their successors in the right ways to ensure a peaceful world, regardless if the effort takes longer than his own life. He has shown great care for his colleagues and associates.


This character is not a major force in the story in this beginning arc, but is important in future arcs.

The head leader of the Kamunabi. 


As befitting his status, Kasen is a stoic, even-tempered man who maintains his composure even in tense situations. He is wholeheartedly focused on the Kamunabi's duty of maintaining order within the nation, and places it above all else. However, his focus on order is to such an extent that he is willing to even work with criminals such as the Hishaku in order to achieve this. Kasen's ultimate view is that the Enchanted Blades must be used by the Kamunabi to ensure the clans of sorcerers within the nation are made to comply.


This character is not a major force in the story in this beginning arc, but is important in future arcs.

  • Forging, also known as Tanren, is an important process in making Japanese swords. Tamahagane, steel made from iron sand… is hammered thin, folded, and hammered again… to strengthen it and establish the right carbon content… through Tanren and other highly skilled processes. The lump of steel… is transformed into a beautiful, strong katana.

  • Both of them suffered great wounds and were exhausted from battling. Both deepened their understanding of the sacred blades. And at this point in time, they intuitively sensed the time limit of the swords’ ultimate attacks. They just happened to coincide. The battle would last a mere moment.
