Extract from Beats JetSetPedia entry:
"He is a 17-year-old, laid back, and level-headed "Rudie" who ran away from home and helped found the GG’s. Beat loves to skate and is okay with breaking the law...Beat spends his time skating around fighting for turf with the rival gangs of Tokyo-to, marking his territory with graffiti and annihilating others' tags. As graffiti is an act of vandalism and is punishable by law, this attracts the attention of Police Captain Onishima...who relentlessly pursue Beat and his friends."
In the story, "Beat", is a lively soul to be around. He's positive, confident, and is simply trying to find his way with his new life as a runaway. He will be the main author of the story, so expect long takes and a lot of lines of dialogue.

(Enthusiastic) What's up? The names Beat! If skating around, tagging walls, and running from the 'Keisatsu' sounds fun to you, consider joining Shibuya-cho's one and only, GG's!
(Heartfelt) Tagging. Graffiti. Art. That was my escape. No one told me if what I was doing was right or wrong. No rules. No restrictions. Just being able to let my paint run wild and perfect the piece I've been working on for years.

Excerpt from the Tab JetSetPedia page:
"While not described as in-depth as Beat or Gum, Tab is consistently described as a genius. As such, he's presumably somewhat arrogant with a general enthusiasm for his work. The dialogue he has during his challenge seems to indicate this arrogance, stating he needs to test Beat's qualifications for hanging with him and asking Beat if he thinks "he's all that" after the first challenge. Into his activities as a Rudie, Tab also likes to taunt the cops by skating laps and breakdancing around them."
(Tab has more of a prominent and relatively high Urban/"Hood" voice)

Excerpt from the DJ Professor K JetSetPedia page:
"The founder of Jet Set Radio, Professor K was born in Jamaica, and raised in New York City. Growing up to the influences of funk, reggae, and dancehall, Professor K started off as a DJ in the Bronx. Though his pirate radio station in NYC was extremely popular and a hit with the underground, Professor K eventually had to leave the States as his station attracted the attention of the feds. Deciding on a new place to turn up his beats, Professor K set his sights on Tokyo, seeing it as the freshest and laxest place he could go to. Knowing that Tokyo-to had the potential to be "one big dance party", Professor K then set up Jet Set Radio establish his sounds on the airwaves and his quest to keep the soul of the city alive. In addition to his disk jockeying and being the fly voice of Tokyo's underground, he helps gangsters and Rudies accomplish their tasks and use his radio station as a hideout. He eventually encounters the GG’s (Beat, Gum, and Tab) and assists them with their crimes and goals."
" Professor K is a quirky, upbeat, and a charismatic DJ who likes to narrate and, of course, being a DJ. He appears to have a high voice and likes to move his hands around as he speaks. He is always willing to help people in need, criminal or not, and is a close ally of the GG’s."
