Project Overview

INTRODUCTION

Hello, everyone! This casting call is for Idyll Chaos - a choice based visual novel that is currently in pre-production. Our visual novel will feature several hours of playtime, & multiple endings based on the players choices. Our players will be making decisions for our main protagonist, June Dell - a hopeless romantic who tends to trust others way too easily. Follow June as she takes on a two week summer camp, juggling relationships with her peers & trying to find out more about herself in the process. If only she knew what was waiting for her at the end of it all...

There will be different character routes available, and our players may choose to make romantic relationships with any of our 5 supporting characters (LGBT friendly). These choices will, of course, have an impact on the game's ending.

As this project is still in pre-production, we are currently casting for our upcoming demo video - which will be used for advertisement purposes. However, if you are cast, you are guaranteed to be the final voice for our characters in the main game. What this means is that you will not be recording for the game itself immediately, but you will be once the time for that comes. Our demo script is finalized, so this work will be done soon after casting. Please feel free to reach out to us if you have any questions about this process.

This is NOT our final casting call - we will be looking for some extra voices in the future for a few of our extra characters & NPC's.

Idyll Chaos will not be fully voiced - instead, you will voice important moments & cutscenes.

REQUIREMENTS

All roles are in the English language. If you are auditioning, you must be comfortable with the possibility of live directed sessions. We may not do these, but just in case I'd like to make sure our cast would be fine with it. We ask that you please have excellent sound quality (XLR mics preferred, but USB mics may be acceptable). As this project deals with some sensitive topics (addiction and abuse, for example), you must be over the age of 16 to audition. We also ask that you have an active discord. We may ask for some contract signatures to ensure the safety of both parties, however this has not been decided yet.

DEADLINES AND AUDITIONS

The deadline for auditions is August 23rd, 2020. There are currently no plans to extend this deadline. We will be making our final decisions & contacting those who are cast throughout the week of the 24th.

WHAT TO EXPECT

If you are cast, expect to become part of the Idyll Chaos family! We are a very small team of people dedicated to creating something beautiful. Anyone who joins our team will be welcomed with open arms; I really want to create a small community where we can all feel comfortable communicating & working together. Communication will take place within our team discord server.

Idyll Chaos will be funded through Kickstarter, & the future of our project depends on whether or not our campaign is successful. What this means is that you will be paid for your work on our demo video, but we may not be able to continue on to our final game if we do not reach our funding goal. I'd like everyone to be aware of this risk.

If we are able to successfully fund & develop Idyll Chaos, we plan to release it on itch.io. We may release it on more platforms in the future, depending on our success.

PAYMENT

We will be sending payment via PayPal. Payment amounts for our demo video can be found next to each character's description. All payment is in USD. I wish I was able to offer more for this part of the project, but considering I do not have proper funding yet this is all I can offer. However, if you are cast & we are able to successfully fund our project, you can expect a base payment of $500 - $600 (for June) for your work in the final game. This equates to $4 per line, up to 125 lines for supporting characters & 150 lines for our protagonist. If we go over this line count, you will be fairly compensated.

AUDITION INSTRUCTIONS

Please record your takes in the ABC/123 format. You may record up to 3 takes, & you are free to audition for as many characters as you'd like. Please save your auditions as MP3 files. You may trim your auditions & add some noise reduction, but please do not edit them otherwise. Feel free to include your twitter handle and/or your discord tag with your audition, however this is not required.

  • Auditions are Closed!

    Thank you to every single one of you who auditioned! Over 600 auditions later, our casting call is officially closed. We will be going over each audition and choosing our cast within the week, and you can expect a reveal on our twitter account @AunoStudios! I cannot give an exact date for when this reveal will be (considering the incredible amount of auditions we've received!), but it WILL be soon!! All chosen actors will be contacted before anything is revealed. Thank you again!   • Three days left to audition!

June is the protagonist of our story. She is around 18 years of age. She's a shortie - 5'1" and has a petite build.

June can be characterized as being pretty naive and childish at times (& definitely a hopeless romantic). She's extremely playful, optimistic, and trusting. She's very carefree, and people love to be around her because of her positive and laidback nature. She's not super mature, but can be serious when necessary. 

She was born in the UK, but moved to the US when she was around 4, so I would not expect her to have a heavy accent (or an accent at all, really). Just something to keep in mind when voicing her! Feel free to play around with different voice types if you'd like, hearing some variety would be great! I would except her voice to fall in the medium - high range.

For our demo video, June has about 48 voiced lines. Some of these lines are much shorter than others.

    "Do you... have any regrets? Regrets that make you think if you made a certain decision, your entire life would pan out differently. Well, if you do, then you're just like me."

    "Anyways, let's go meet the others! What do you say? Yep, this is it! Just around this corner is an adventure waiting to happen! Phew!"

  • *Give me your best shocked/scared scream. Does not have to be super long or intense. Just imagine you saw something disturbing & it took you aback. May add a bit of heavy breathing at the end/gasp at the beginning. Make it however you'd like!*

Her name is pronounced as Meh - Lin - Ah. 

Milena is one out of five of our wonderful supporting characters. She is Theodosia's twin sister, although they have very different personalities. She is around 18 years of age, & 5'5" / has a very slim and athletic build.

Lena is an extremely happy & sociable individual, and she tends to be pretty popular among friend groups. Although she has some self confidence issues, she rarely lets them show. She is known for having an above average intelligence & for her love of the outdoors. Lena is almost always outside, & she loves all kinds of sports (definitely an active & 'down-to-earth' individual). Despite her positive nature, she definitely has some bad moments.

The twins were born in France, and moved to the US around the age of 2. Similarly to June, I do not except them to have a French accent by any means. Just something to keep in mind! I would consider Milena's voice to be in the medium range. Variety in your auditions would be great!

Theodosia is Milena's twin sister. She is around 18 years of age, & 5'5" / slim with little muscle tone.

Theo is very much a realist who believes fate is arbitrary, & wasting time on things she deems unnecessary is ridiculous. She gets easily annoyed by those who are overly optimistic or cheerful. She's not very social, but people generally enjoy her company when they get to know her. She definitely gives off "mysterious" vibes. She is very intelligent, at the top of her class, & she is very confident in herself. Theo can definitely be bold at times!

Her and her sister were born in France, but moved to the US when they were around 2. I would not expect them to have French accents, just something to keep in mind! Feel free to play around & give variety in your auditions. I would imagine Theo's voice to be in the medium-low range.

Rin is around 18 years of age, & 5'8" / very thin. 

He tends to be pretty pessimistic, and easily discouraged. He loves video games, & often uses them as a distraction when he's in a bad mood. It's not super easy to get to know him, since he doesn't open up to people very easily. However, once you do get to know him, he's an incredible friend to have. He'll always be loyal to you, & you can trust him with anything. Always put's other's needs above his own, very selfless in that way. He has somewhat of a dark sense of humor, and he never had the best grades in school. 

Rin was born and raised in Detroit. I would imagine his voice to fall in the medium - low range. Feel free to do different takes & give variety!

Lev is around 18 years of age, & 5'9" with a slim / athletic build.

Lev is definitely a people pleaser - always the happiest in the room, & known for being very comedic and likable. He's extremely loyal & would do just about anything for those he loves. Not the smartest guy, but did pretty well in school. Lev somehow always knows when you're lying, & values honesty in his relationships. He loves sports & spending time with friends. You could definitely consider Lev to be a 'charmer', as he's always been pretty popular with the ladies. Very much a sweetheart - Lev is incredibly devout to those who are important to him. 

He was born and raised in Colorado, & I would consider his voice to fall in the medium range. Feel free to try different takes and give variety!

Finley is around 18 years of age, 5'2" & pretty slim.

Finn can be a little socially awkward around his peers, & can sometimes be a bit blunt/insensitive. However, once you get to know him, he's a really likable guy. Tends to be pretty tired, & he loves playing video games/reading comics for fun. Very kind & gentle, and has a pretty average intelligence. Finn has a pretty dry sense of humor, & isn't one to openly express his feelings. He also eats a LOT & loves food, despite being so slim. 

Finn was born and raised in Texas. He could have a slight southern 'twang', but please no heavy southern accents. He grew up in the suburbs, not the country, lol! Feel free to try different takes & add some variety in your auditions! I would imagine his voice falling in the medium range. Very "dead pan". 

Finn has about 8 voiced lines in our demo video.
