IDW's Sonic The Hedgehog - Volume 2
Project Overview
INTRODUCTION
Hey there! I'm Harris C. Taylor, the project lead for this comic dub. The following casting call is for the second volume of IDW's Sonic the Hedgehog comic series - covering issues 5-8. Ideally, contact would be via Discord, though if you don't have one, I'm happy to work through CCC or via email to get lines processed.
PRODUCTION
The series will be released on YouTube on a monthly basis, and each episode will generally cover one issue, with some exceptions for specials and the like down the line, potentially. Though this project is pretty relaxed, I would appreciate decent turnarounds on lines - around 1-2 weeks depending on the workload. If anything would cause a delay in that after you receive your work - just make sure to let me know.
AUDITIONING
Interested in trying out for a role? Great! Below you'll find the roles for the episode, each one will have an image, a brief description and some voice lines, naturally. For the actual project, I will be providing comic panels for reference to help you figure out how to best do the lines. As far as the actual auditions go, I have a few general things I want to say:
- Provide at least two takes of every line, each take, try to do the line a bit differently.
- Don't feel obligated to imitate a VA that has played the character, if there is one. If you can do it really well, cool! But it's also cool to provide a new take on a character.
- Clean, unedited audio! Don't add any filters/effects. If you can do it well and need to, you CAN use a bit of noise reduction, but I want to hear your voice unfiltered, also when it comes to the actual production, it'll sound more consistent if I'm processing unedited audio.

Espio is the most level-headed member of the Chaotix Detective Agency. He has a cool head, and a strong sense of justice. He's trained as a ninja and often uses it in conjunction with his ability to camouflage himself as per his abilities as a chameleon.
He should have a calm, smooth tone of voice. The register/pitch doesn't matter as much as his voice making him often sound in control of himself.
[While dealing with Badniks alongside Sonic]
Left, right -- everywhere! They have us surrounded![After showing Sonic the amnesiac Dr. Eggman]
This is what I meant when I said we "sort of" found Eggman.[Responding to the idea of letting Eggman go if he doesn't remember anything.]
The crimes have been committed and justice must be served. Eggman must be punished.
[Follow-on: after being asked if Mr. Tinker is really the same as Dr. Eggman]

Charmy is the youngest member of the Chaotix Detective Agency. A young boy with lots of energy, and not a lot of worldly knowledge. He's an innocent, mostly, but tries to help out where he can.
An actor of any gender can play him, but he should sound boy-ish. Doesn't have much of an idea of an 'indoor voice', easily excitable, but just as prone to other emotions.
[Excited, should be talking fast - like he can't control himself.]
Oh yeah! This place is great! There's lots of kids my age! And tons of mountain flowers! And they have the *best* honey tarts *ever*![Frustrated]
I'm comin'! I'm comin'! *Sheesh*![At first reacting to news from Rouge...and then getting confused.]

The leader of the Chaotix Detective Agency. Quite loud-mouthed and hot-headed. Can be aggressive, but is well-meaning.
Should have a loud, deeper tone of voice.Could have a scratchy or gravelly quality to it, but isn't necessary.
[Explaining to Sonic the predicament with the amnesiac Dr. Eggman - should sound uncertain.]
That's why we called you. We have no clue what to do! Sure, he's done some nasty stuff in the past, but can you really pushing a guy who doesn't remember doing *any* of it?[After being asked to help take care of some Badniks.]
You got it! Charmy! Get out here! We got work to do![After Rouge tells Vector that the Chaotix can keep all the money for their job. Maybe sounding a little flustered?]
Ha! Yer a class act! Thanks for...er...managing all this.

Rouge is a cunning bat, who has previously worked for Eggman but now usually works of her own interests, leaning towards helping Sonic and friends when something serious happens. Her calling in life is more finding and collecting precious gems than causing trouble.
Should have a mid-to-low range voice, often tinged with a degree of playfulness when talking with others - she likes to mess with people.
[Talking urgently, trying to give Sonic room to reason with Shadow.]
Talk fast, big blue. We *definitely* heard him say he was rebuilding Eggman Land. And you *know* how stubborn Shadow can be.[Trying to protect "Mr. Tinker" (Eggman, but suffering from amnesia) from Shadow.]
Man, you're *stubborn*. You don't have to do this, he's--
[Shadow makes it clear he had a talk with Sonic - Rouge begins to feel more relieved of the situation.]
Ah-ha. All right then.[Playfully - after seeing Mr. Tinker's "Eggman Land" is just a play area for kids.]
Ooooh -- threatening!

The ageless masterwork of scientist Dr. Gerald Robotnik - Shadow is the ultimate life-form, once struggling with his past, and the question of individuality and personhood, he's now more concerned with following his own path, and taking care of those who have wronged him.
Should have a mid-to-low range voice, often speaks in grim, overly serious tones. Tends to be guarded and not really express positive emotions.
[Making a very serious threat.]
You'll never menace the world with Eggman Land again. I'll *destroy* you first.[Angry, reminding Sonic of all the things Eggman has done.]
Have you forgotten that he made you suffer? That he's tried to destroy you -- *multiple* times? How can you even *suggest* leniency for him after all that?[Aggressive, but holding back from hurting the amnesiac Eggman.]
You. "Mr. Tinker." Show me "Eggman Land." *Now.*

Silver is a hedgehog from some hundreds of years in the future. Originally seeking to destroy Sonic believing him to be the reason for his destroyed future, Silver soon became an ally once the confusion was resolved. After coming to the past to help with the invasion, Silver returned home to another destroyed future - and is back to correct things once again.
Silver should have a mid-range voice. Can be overly optimistic and hopeful when exploring the past, and a bit naive around people due to his lack of social interactions in his time
[After a Badnik is taken out right in front of himself and Sonic.]
Woah!
[After Sonic assumes Silver destroyed the Badnik - Silver gets excited talking about this.]
I didn't! It must be the legendary Guardian Angel![Silver explaining why he's back - what the new problem with his future is.]
When I left, my time had been conquered by the Eggman Empire. Everyone lived in fear, choking on polluted air. When I went back, the Eggman Empire was gone -- but so was everyone else. There was nothing left. No people, no animals, no machinery. Only water and sparse, metallic plant life.[Trying to speak gently to Whisper - realising she's not comfortable around others.]
It's okay if you prefer to work alone......but it looks to me like you've put together quite a team. And I'd be proud to be a part of it.
[Long-term supporting character, with a leading role in the "Tangle & Whisper" mini-series - current approx 128 lines from 7 volumes.]
Whisper is a wolf with a heavily-customised sniper wispon. Originally from a specialist team of wispon-users, after losing her comrades she has become more of a recluse. She doesn't like physical contact, is awkward around others, and often very closed-off emotionally.
Happy with any kind of pitch, the important thing with Whisper is being able to have her commonly speak in a quiet, soft tone - often awkward, sometimes a little shy. But the voice has to be capable of opening up as well - allowing her to speak more comfortably, and sometimes breaking into bursts of emotion - happiness, anger, sorrow.
[After Silver helps her and tries to make friends - should sound a little unsure, anxious.]
...Maybe.[Heavy breathing - angry, upset, as she goes to destroy one of Eggman's computers - heavy memories are surfacing here. Then, as Sonic comforts her, her breathing settles down, until she backs off with a resigned voice.]
Okay...[Later on, during an attempt to take care of an infectious disease created by Eggman, Whisper loses a new friend - someone she finally allowed herself to get close to again. This line read should be abrupt, filled with grief - really go for it.]
TANGLE!!
[Minor character, reoccurring, unclear if he will appear again after some brief re-appearance after volume 2 - approx 22 lines from 3 volumes.]
The head of a village where Dr. Eggman is being kept, having lost his memories and developing the friendly persona "Mr. Tinker".
Should have a mid-to-low voice, elderly and kind in tone.
[Coming to Sonic and Vector as they debate over whether or not to leave the amnesiac Dr. Eggman be.]
Excuse me. I'm the head of the village. May I weigh in on the subject?[One part of a speech he gives on his experience with Eggman within his village.]
Before you make your decision, please consider this...that man appeared in our village one day without warning. We're *still* not sure how he arrived. We locked him up immediately, but the next day we found he'd broken out -- just to reinforce his own cell. Just like the Chaotix, we questioned and tested him for days. Never once did he show signs of his old, villainous ways.
[Extra - 1 line]
Go with whatever you feel like with this voice, nothing specific wanted here!
[Alarmed - running away.]
Badniks! Coming in from the South! They're coming up the mountain. Run!
[Extra - 2 lines]
A small child of indeterminate gender.
Should have a lighter voice in the high range. Soft-spoken, innocent seems appropriate for the line the character has.
[Scared, talking to Mr. Tinker.]
W-Will the robots find us in here?[Laughing with everyone after the crisis is resolved.]
