Project Overview


Hello, and welcome to the Homestuck Abridged Series Casting Call!!

INTRO
Unless you've been living under a proverbial internet rock since 2009, you've probably heard of Homestuck at some point. That one crazy webcomic with the crazy fans. Yeah, that one. For those of you who HAVE been living under said rock, Homestuck is a story about some kids who play a game. Things get messy. It's very very long and very very weird. But it's also very very good.

Homestuck was first released in 2009, and now after an excessively long time spent planning and writing, myself and my very good friend, the youtuber Cloudrenaline have decided to create an abridged series of the comic.

As Homestuck has an exceptionally large cast of characters, we are initially going to be holding a casting call for the 4 beta kids, 12 trolls, and a few minor characters that also appear in the comic. Remaining characters will be cast later on once the comic/series progresses.

RULES & REQUIREMENTS
GOOD QUALITY MICROPHONE
This probably goes without saying, but the better the quality of your microphone, the better the quality of your audio will be. We're not looking for professional setups or anything, but please try to make your audio as clear as possible with minimal background noise/interference. Probably not the best idea to be recording through your phone's mic, you get me?

EXPERIENCE
This casting call is open to everyone, regardless of experience with voice acting. The same goes for people who haven't read Homestuck, although the project will probably make a lot more sense if you have! As an abridged series, this will pretty loosely follow the main plot of Homestuck so having read the comic will definitely help, or you may end up a bit confused at a lot of the jokes/references in the script. This isn't mandatory however, and you're more than welcome to audition if you haven't read Homestuck!

DISCORD & DEADLINES
If cast, you must be willing to join our discord server in order to maintain communication and submit lines as this will be our main/easiest source of communication. As for deadlines, once a script is submitted you will be given a deadline to submit your lines by, usually within a month or so to provide a decent window of opportunity to get them done. These will obviously be slightly flexible given how I know first hand how real life obligations etc can be a pain in the ass.

FINAL NOTES
Cloudrenaline will be voicing the primary narrator, and I will be voicing the secondary narrator (issuing commands to the characters). We will also be filling the roles of Eridan and Karkat respectively, along with a few minor characters to save time on casting for a role with very few lines. Feel free to audition for as many characters as you like!
This is going to be a very long term project, with multiple videos/scripts sent out over a long period of time!

  • Casting... Complete

    Aaaaaaaand the roles are cast. Big congratulations to everyone who got the parts, I can't wait to get this project started. There were so many fantastic auditions that just casting this project is probably going to be the most difficult part, Cloud and I have deliberated over this for fucking hours at this point. I'll be in touch with everyone in the next 24 hours regarding details about the discord server and moving forward with the project (because the actual casting process took way longer than I expected and it's nearly midnight...), so hang tight and I'll be in touch very very soon.     Hello! I haven't posted any real updates since first posting this project as we've been flooded with so many auditions every single day I figured I'd just let it be! I'm absolutely blown away by the amount of attention this project has gotten, I didn't expect anywhere NEAR this number of auditions, which has made the process of picking the roles all the harder. Thank you all so much for taking the time to audition, there were so many unbelievably good auditions and it's been a difficult process to pick just 1 person per role, but in a way it's nice to know this fandom is still as alive and active as ever. Cloudrenaline and I have sat down tonight and picked out the cast members, so I'll post another update here tomorrow (about 18 hours from now?) and "officially cast" the cast members, and send everyone the relevant information for our discord server to get this project moving! <3

John Egbert is a NERD. A huge dork. He loves video games, old movies, and playing pranks on his Dad. He usually comes off as pretty oblivious to a lot of the nefarious antics in the comic, leaving a lot of the more serious action to his friends, but is ready to step up when the time comes.

Rose is the defacto "leader" and the most mature of the 4 main friends. She is the most level headed of the bunch and seems to know the best way to victory. This doesn't stop her from having fun when she wants to, and she has a much dryer sense of humour than the rest of the group. She also loves eldritch horror and weird mysteries. A true goth GF (with only a SLIGHT alocohol problem later on).

Aradia used to be something of an archaeologist on her home planet. Before she was brutally murdered by a supposed friend that is. Aradia spends a lot of the comic dead, making her ghost voice seem cold and emotionless. Once she returns however, she has a cheery demeanor and pleasant attitude, even if it's not entirely certain whose side she's on...

Computer hacker extraordinaire, Sollux also just happens to plagued by the endless screams of the doomed in his psyche. He has a complicated relationship with a lot of the other Trolls and mainly just wants to be left alone. He is extremely snarky and sarcastic when speaking to others, too.

He speaks with a very pronounced lisp when spelling the letter S with a 2, then without a lisp when spelling it normally.

A Troll by name, a Troll by nature, Terezi takes great pleasure in initially trolling the 4 kids through their game session. One half of the scourge sisters, she was blinded as a result of revenge carried out by her best friend. It's complicated, OK? She is concerned with the idea of justice and its pursuit, which often conflicts with her own personal emotions.

She often seems quite loud and obnoxious, but has shown to be reserved and sullen when depressed.

Possibly the most complex character in the comic. Vriska is a total bitch. With good intentions? Maybe? It's hard to tell. Loud and abrasive, Vriska is ready to lie, cheat, steal and kill her way to victory, even past her best friends. She has the potential to be the hero of the whole story and she knows it; she just doesn't care if that makes her a good person or not.

(Vriska uses 8 to replace the letter B, and also in words containing the -ate- sound. This is only relevant to this audition, as the abridged scripts will not be written in this style.)

Equius is obsessed with the idea of fitting into his highborn status in Troll society, and believes everyone else should also adhere to their assigned societal roles. He's a bit of a troll racist basically. That doesn't stop him from getting incredibly flustered when being bossed around by trolls in a "lower" caste to him, once he realises he gets off on it. Gross.

Feferi is the heiress to the entire empire of the troll's home planet. As a member of the highest blood caste, she is expected to be harsh and ruthless to those below her, however she strives to make Alternia a kinder, fairer, and more compassionate place under her rule.

Feferi has a very kind and (the first of many aquatic puns) bubbly personality, but is prone to lose her temper with Eridan from time to time. She also sometimes uses )( to replace the letter H, however this will not be written in the abridged script, just this audition.

John's kindly grandmother! She is resurrected as a sprite near the start of the comic with the express purpose of teasing her grandson and baking an endless amount of cookies.

This is an extremely minor role, and does not appear an awful lot after the start of the comic. She does appear a bit later on though!
