Project Overview

Hello all willing participants, below is a list of characters available for audition. The requirements of the audition are simple…

  1. Have little to no background noise. (Can be removed through audacity and other sound editors.)

  2. Submitted in .WAV or .MP3 format. There are many other ways to send it, but I prefer these two. 

  3. Must be using an external microphone. No phone or laptop microphone. Yes, this in an abridge… but I am taking the quality very seriously. 

  4. Must submit on time (duh…)

  5. Name your file like so, "charactername_yourname_audition"

  6. Have fun while recording this. It's for laughs, even if I want decent quality of audio. Don't be afraid to try something you have never thought of trying while voice acting.

  7. Now, let me tell you about the project. Higurashi: When WE cry is a fan based parody of the anime Higurashi: When They cry also known as Higurashi: When The Cicadas cry. This dub hopes to follow the original anime in a satirical fashion that can be enjoyed by the viewers. Our team as of now consists of myself and my co-director Gospel. We hope to start a production company for fandubs and abridged series as a way to expand ourselves in the world of voice acting, so will you join us as we dive into a comedic take on the horror thriller visual novel/anime.

Rena Ryugu is your average kawaii anime school girl, that includes the basic anime girl starter pack: Big eyes, Cute face, Cute outfits, giant human sized machete, cute hair, ect… 

She is normally all cutesy and happy go lucky, but once she is set off… you better run from her, not many could survive this girl if she went rampant.

She can be very naturally innocent and naive.

The voice actor/actress that gets Rena must be able to sound all bubbly and loving and cutesy one second, to flip to a cold, menacing, and predatory killer.

Range: Mid-high to High

  • (Visibly upset,escalating in vocal shaking throughout, while slowly crescendoing up with each sentence. Starting at a normal speaking voice) "He started walking home alone… alone... just like you. Then one day… suddenly he started practicing swinging his bat all day, just like you! Then he started carrying a baseball bat around all the time, JUST LIKE YOU! Then suddenly, suddenly! … (sudden transfer to a monotonous voice, clear of emotion.) I already told you Keiichi (K-E-Chee)... Satoshi (Sah-toe-she)  suddenly transferred to another school. You won't do that Keiichi, will you? Transfer out.

  • (Saying to Keiichi on the roof, heartfelt) "B-But everything else stays the same… you'll start my days with a 'good morning' to me when I wake up, and a 'good night' when I go to bed… you have to be really nice to me all the time… and do little things for me… just to make me happy! This way, it doesn't matter if you win, or I win… either way. No matter what happens… you and I will be together.

  • (Literally just give us your best insane laugh!)

(Committing to playing Mion is committing to play 2 separate characters.) Mion is the leader of the club that the main characters belong to. Her family essentially owns the town, also… how the heck does she just get to carry a gun everywhere!? Well, seriously, she is the daughter of one of the main 3 families of Hinamizawa. She has quite a bit of power, and a sense of infamy behind her name. She is cool and very tomboyish, she does have her girly moments. Mion also has an identical twin sister named Shion. Shion is very girly and emotional, almost a complete 180 of her sister's personality

Range: Mid-high to high and Mid-low to low

  • (As Shion talking to Mion while killing Satako) "There is nothing you can do, except watch your friend suffer… fine, I will gladly let Satako go if you say sorry one thousand times… (stabbing noises and laughter) wow, you really mastered the art of crying!

  • (Dialogue between Mion, Shion, and Keiichi… yes, I want you to do both Mion and Shion make them sound either exactly the same, or similar with a slight difference) Mion: "S-Shion, what's the deal, why are you with Keiichi again." Shion: "Well unlike you, I am the kind of person who is considerate of others. I couldn't just leave poor sweaty Keiichi alone, could I? (teasing her sister) by the way, you want to tell me why you are toting around two cups of tea, sis?" Mion: "Uh.. w-well…  I… uh…" Shion: "What happened to the headstrong sister I loved? You haven't gone soft on me right? My sister would never be caught dead serving a drink to a boy."

  • (Your best menacing laugh, or scream)

The little sister of a local boy in the village who disappeared. She used to lean so very heavily on her "Nii nii." She still has hope that he is around somewhere out there. She starts out disliking Keiichi, but soon starts to look at him almost like an older brother. She is bestfriends with and often lives with Rika. 

For this Abridged series, I am looking for something interesting for her. Really just do your own take on Satako, whether male or female. 

Range: surprise me.

  • (Screaming at Shion) How could you do this to everyone!? To Rika! What do you plan on doing to me?! (Taken aback gasp)

  • (Say in a way that sounds best to you) "NII NII!"

  • (Break down into tears while saying, "I'm sorry.")

A girl with the power to retain memories through hundreds and hundreds of timelines. She is as close to a 4th wall breaking little turd as you will get in this anime. She has the voice of a child… but her voice can also change to that of an adult woman… seriously… the anime doesn't explain it in season one, but essentially she is also two characters in one.

Range: High and Mid-Low

  • (In the Mid-low voice, calm and collected despite being physically drained) "I'm gonna have to turn you down on that offer. Find someone else to torture." (Almost happy despite the threat of being tortured) "Maybe. But maybe we have different views on what that means. I could stay and let you torture me for days and days on end… or I could leave here right now" (Tiny grunts or yelps of pain as she repeatedly impaled herself on a knife. Can grow into screams as choking on blood.)

  • (High range voice, innocently) "We have a good friendship. We laugh and play games together, and nothing can ever change that." (Keiichi remembers what he has done and Rika responds like this) so, Keiichi (K-E-Chi) do you remember now? That you killed them, both Rena and Mion? I forgive you for it Keiichi, no one else may know what you have done, but I forgive you."

  • (High Voice) But every year from here on out, gruesome things are going to happen… not peace…" (A laugh that transitions from the High to the Mid-low voice. In Mid-low voice calmly stated) "In a few years, someone is going to kill me."

The local nurse of Hinamizawa. She seems to know quite a bit about the lore behind the cotton drifting festival, and all of the death an destruction surrounding Hinamizawa. She is seen helping out in multiple timelines.

  • (Playful) "Well, well. I was wondering who that was. Now tell me Keiichi (K-E-Chi) what are you doing carrying a shovel at this time of the night?"

  • (Crazed) "Old Maid is a game where all the players team up on one person! A game that requires a sacrifice! A game that only needs one loser!

  • (Death scream)

Apparently he is one of the like… 6 police officers you actually freaking see at Hinamizawa. Oishi is your laid back kind of detective. Just trying to get behind all of the wackiness that comes in this town. He is caring and a hard worker. For the abridge, I am imagining his voice as something you might hear in one of the old mafia films from the 80's, but, I am open to anything that you feel like trying. He also smokes like a sailor, so his voice is pretty raspy.

Range: Mid-low to Low


Ps. I am open to any take to him. Male or Female. This is an abridged series, so little girl voices are welcomed. 

  • (Over the phone and concerned) "That you Maibara (My-E-bar-uh)? Did something happen to you kid?... just tell me what's going on. Alright… calm down, we have an officer in the area. Sending them there now… and as soon as I get off the phone. I'll be heading there myself."

  • (In the car, questioning) "So, about your friend, Ms. Ryugu (Ree-you-goo). How much has she told you about her past? … well… she was kicked out of her last school… she went crazy and started smashing windows and students with a bat…"

  • (Play with the character and make a line)
