Heroes of Nyre is a fantasy series set in the early 1900s of the UK. (Mainly Ireland and Scotland) it follows four main characters: Vin, Eiza, Libby, and Bean who all have very different life perspectives, but us that as strengths to help each other grow.
The Corruption is labeled as a terrorist group after the Court decides years ago to implement a practice called “Fleo Inanis”. A person’s emotions and mental state are the cornerstone of magic in this world, and it is often misused to make a point or get what they want. This ritual essentially takes away a person’s ability to express their emotions, licking their powers away for safety if a wielder decides to proceed without improving their psyche.
Each character has their own struggles with this conflict.
Vin, not by choice, is caught in the middle as the High Mage of Nyre. With his own neurodivergencies and crippling self-deprecation, he struggles to control his powers, and begins to ruin his family’s reputation. Eiza, dealing with addiction, impulsivity, and his loud mouth attitude, he struggles greatly to maintain relationships and keep his mouth shut. Libby, the princess of the kingdom, is incredibly sheltered and believes deeply in the history that she’s learned from books, not from genuine experience. And Bean? She’s just an innocent and precious little baby. But even that comes with its own dangers.
These four friends will learn when to trust, and when to let go in their homeland that is slowly falling apart at the seams.
