Chrom, the prince of Ylisse, is a direct and committed person, unflinchingly charging forward to achieve that which he believes in. He is protective of his sisters, especially Emmeryn, but, despite his protests, never argues with Emmeryn's final decisions. Chrom deeply cares for Lissa's well-being as well, making sure to take care of her while they are off at war.

Extremely serious and with a no-nonsense personality, all while being in charge with protecting the royal family, it is no surprise that Frederick is a natural skeptic, a fact very aptly encapsulated by the nickname "Frederick the Wary" given to him by Chrom. He is also known to be very patient, dealing with Lissa's antics and Chrom's reckless behaviour without displaying any visible signs of resentment. Despite this, it is clear that Frederick deeply cares for Chrom, Lissa, and Emmeryn, feeling the need to protect and serve them at all costs.

Lissa initially comes across as an individual who looks upon the world with a naïve simplistic outlook, a fact that is compounded by her seemingly spoiled and immature behavior.  In a rather conflicting light, Lissa is embarrassed of these traits of hers, as she perceives them as unbecoming of a noble lady. She has become rather insecure over her character as a whole, where she not just laments over her unladylike mannerisms, but also tries to emulate her sister. These quirks and flaws are, however, offset by her exuberant, optimistic attitude, one that is deemed crucial for boosting the army’s morale by Chrom. This is further bolstered by Lissa’s compassion, where her willingness to indiscriminately help anyone and befriend all whom she meets, as is the case with her friendship with Maribelle.

Sully is a tomboy. She possesses a personality that is characterized by a spirited zealousness, brimming with self-confidence and passion - a fact that has caused her to be regarded as being cooler than most men, earning her the admiration of many a woman in Ylisse.

Virion is somewhat detached from the world. While he acts friendly, his words and actions leave his grace and refinement somewhat unclear. Although coming off as a coward, he can actually be quite noble at times, as is the case in a multitude of his supports. That nobility also reflects his caring nature towards other people,

Stahl has a gentle and trusting personality and is one of the few who have common sense. Though he is scatterbrained and acts a bit silly from time to time, he is very attentive, kind to others, and has a big heart. His supports with the Avatar and Maribelle reveal that he is very good at reading people, often knowing what they want before they say it.

Vaike possesses an abnormally inflated ego, a fact that is bolstered by him constantly referring to himself as Teach. Often times, this ego of his is unjustified, as its constant overclouding of his judgment sees him incapable of comprehending why things never quite go the way that he envisions. Such instances include him getting confused when Sully receives more gifts from women than he does, alongside Tharja obsessing over the Avatar and not him.

Miriel is a perfectionist who cannot stand having even a single book out of place in the Shepherd's garrison. She is especially harsh when berating anyone who behaves thoughtlessly. An embodiment of efficiency, Miriel keeps track of everything in the army, making sure everything is up to code. In fact, she is efficient enough to keep her own possessions in order, even though she has the most possessions out of everyone in the army. More so, Miriel is an intellectual individual with a vast array of eloquent vocabulary which leaves most of the Shepherds, more often than not, confused or sometimes even annoyed. Miriel tends to be interested only in the theoretical and discovery of the inner workings of the world. If something interests her, she will stop at nothing until she knows all of it.

Sumia is a klutzy individual, prone to small mishaps. In fact, her clumsiness is so bad that she trips over nothing more than anyone in the Shepherds, much to her embarassment. Because of this, she has a rather low self-esteem and feels that she is unsuited for her job, but still does her best whenever she can. Despite her clumsy habits, she holds a hidden strength that most people lack, constantly striving to protect her friends and take care of them.

Kellam is a frontline fighter of Chrom's Shepherds and is one of the biggest and tallest units in the army. Despite this, he virtually goes unnoticed. Still, he searches for a way to make others notice him. Interestingly, only those with animal-like senses, like Nowi and Panne, are able to find him rather easily.

Donnel is a typical village boy "from the sticks" and is unaccustomed to life outside of his village. Though he was hesitant to ever enter battle, Donnel musters enough courage to stand up for himself and eventually join Chrom's army. His speech is vastly different compared to the rest of the army, speaking with a southern-farmer accent, saying phrases such as "git 'r done!".

Having a cool personality and tending to keep things to himself. Lon'qu possesses a direct and somewhat unwieldy way of talking, likely from his lack of social grace or his foreign origins of Chon'sin. Due to the events in his childhood involving Ke'ri, Lon'qu developed gynophobia out of fear of having another woman who becomes too close to him get killed. As a result, he often gets nervous when speaking with female members of the army; his Event Tile conversations with a female member also support this.

As one of the youngest members of Chrom's army, Ricken is a typical child, yet he hates being treated as such. However, Ricken seeks to grow up as quickly as possible, but mostly physically as he is overly sensitive about his height. Despite his young age he is quite studious, able to learn and grow from everyone in the army and soon realizes that he is growing up in his own way. He is worried about his family since his motivations to remain in Chrom's army is to bring his family back to good stature. He also looks up to Chrom as his role model and constantly tries to prove his worth.

Maribelle is a typical noblewoman, trained in the classical and finer arts of the higher ranks in society. Ironically, this has sparked within her an interest in the "plebeian" lifestyles of the common citizenry of Ylisse, in turn motivating her aspiration to become a magistrate that fosters equal rights between both the nobility and the common folk alike. She tends to come off as being snobbish and prideful, warming up rather slowly to others. Once she has developed a fairly intimate relationship with a given individual, she becomes much kinder and is more sensitive to the emotions of the other party.

Panne is a cool woman with a strong sense of duty and pride for her people. Panne distrusts humans for the genocide of her people, leaving her as the last Taguel. As such she refers to any human who has not earned her respect as "man-spawn".

Gaius is calm and collected, with a clear mind. However, his seriousness breaks whenever candy and other sweet confections are brought into the question. Despite the nature of his job, Gaius has morals and does things with the best interest of others, such as his unwillingness to assassinate Emmeryn because he likes her, or blaming Maribelle's father for his theft incident to protect Maribelle.

Cordelia is considered to be a genius who can do most things flawlessly; though she hates being referred to as such, mainly because it reminds her of being teased by her seniors, who called her a genius many times in a hazing manner. However, in actuality, it is because Cordelia realized that her comrades truly meant it, proven when they sacrificed themselves so that Cordelia could escape and thus would be their legacy. She is aware of her prodigious talents and as a result is seen as a prideful individual by Libra, and arrogant by her senior Pegasus Knight. She is not without flaws, however, as she admits to Virion that she is a bit ill-tempered, and in some conversations, she shows to have little self-esteem.

He has a friendly and refreshing personality, though he has an unusual accent and speech patterns. Despite his mature appearance, he is surprisingly easy to hurt, getting depressed whenever people harp on him about his age. He speaks in the third person with a Russian accent in the English version. Gregor's age blesses him with fighting skills that impress even Lon'qu. Despite his looks and behaviour, Gregor is quite wise, knowing how old Nowi actually is and seeing beyond her youthful facade, having knowledge of health and diseases, and giving advice to other members in the army.

Nowi, due to her age as a Manakete, mostly acts like a child, but it is often done to cheer others up. She loves playing outside and is always looking for a playmate, though she explains to Nah that her constant playing around also serves as her training regimen. Upon joining the army, Nowi immediately understands her cheerful impact on the army and acts accordingly to keep the army's morale up. Despite this however, Nowi is well aware of her Manakete status and, like Tiki, is afraid of being alone, knowing that one day, her human friends will die while she continues to live on for many more millennia. Nevertheless, Nowi continues to live everyday, enjoying the time she has with everyone in the army.

Libra is a kind man who presents as stoic and patient, almost to the point of being oracular; as a result of this, he puts others at ease and is very trustworthy, having a motherly and caring disposition acting protective of those around him, though his support with Gaius shows that even he has limits, and when he keeps praying to the gods for superficial and materialistic reasons, Libra loses his usual demeanour and becomes angry with him, though he forgives and is still willing to teach how to pray. However, Libra is also somewhat detached from others and himself, feeling that his being a priest is only a substitution for a real identity, compounded by what Tharja can only describe as a horrifying dark side; one that he tries to suppress and veil, but is able to disturb even the likes of her with it. Truly, his supports with Tharja reveals that he wants to erase all traces of his past due to the unpleasantry of it, so much so that he feels like he is being saved instead of cursed.

Tharja comes off as a stalker due to her obsession with the Avatar, regardless of their gender. She even values the Avatar's life more than her own and usually acts quite amorously around them. She is willing to do whatever it takes to win their affections, even if it means changing her whole personality to suit their taste. Around others though, she is a rather cold and moody individual, usually threatening to curse them if they stand in the way of her plans of gaining the Avatar's affections. Despite Tharja's grim personality around others, she is capable of loving another person, though her love for the Avatar often takes a higher priority in the end. While pretending to be an uncaring individual, she is sensitive about others to an extent, even vaguely telling Nowi, that her parents are dead, while passing it off that they are "far away".

Due to Anna being a multitude of individuals, her personality differs slightly between games. However, there are some consistent traits amongst each other. Anna is typically whimsical and jovial, tending to do things her own way.

Olivia is extremely shy and withdrawn, but a dancing genius with many fans across the lands. She is shown to be insecure and a bit of a pessimistic thinker, especially when conversation comes to her own skill, and she is terrified of disappointing others. She states to Chrom that she is only good at dancing, which even then, she feels she is inadequate in doing, and this results in her stage fright. Due to her anxious demeanor, Olivia is easily startled, shown to cry out when surprised in at least one support conversation with nearly any one of her partners. This also displays her fear when surprised or when around strangers, likely caused by the time a noble attempted to abduct her. She can summon more of her strength than usual for the sake of others, often being judgmental and pushy in the process, and above all she wishes to make people smile. Her dream is to open her own theatre, and she is dedicated to seeing this dream realized.

Cherche is a domestic woman raised on simple values who is good at cooking and sewing, in contrast to her vicious wyvern. This is because, despite being just a knight at first, Virion's particular fondness of her led to her duties being combined with those of a servant, with the pressure and suspicion of others forcing her to balance both her attitude and skills in the process. Though disdainful of his behavior, she's loyal to Virion, deciding to stay with him despite his fall from grace. Having an understanding of his torments, being the only person Virion shows his real self, she isn't afraid to mock his demeanor when felt needed, something that he admits to actually affect his mood.

Henry almost always has a smile on his face, and is unusually cheerful. He has strong love for battles, dark magic and blood, which gives a jarring contrast to the cheerful personality he presents to others. Henry also cannot seem to comprehend the value of life completely, as in his supports with the Avatar, Henry did not know what was wrong with sacrificing innocents to win a war, as long as the final result is victory. However, when the Avatar corrected him and said that sacrificing innocents is not right, he obeyed the orders readily and defended a village despite having a tactical disadvantage. This shows that he is able to be obedient to his superiors, though he states that he will ignore "stupid" orders, such as not letting him fight, and even threatened to kill said superior if they ever did such a thing. 

2,000 years later in Awakening, Tiki has matured significantly, where she is much more calm and serene, although small glimpses of her childish past emerge, particularly when seeing her beloved, but long-departed, "Mar-Mar" through Lucina and the Male Avatar, and in her B support with Say'ri. She aspires to preserve the memory of her long departed friends, vowing to protect the future that they had fought for as she does so. However, Tiki laments that all of her friends from long ago have long passed while she remains alive, and at the same time, is well aware that those feelings will happen again when the Shepherds eventually meet the same fate as Marth's army. Despite all this, Tiki still wishes to interact with humans and make friendships with them, saying it's better to go through the loss of having those relationships rather than not having them at all. This ends up becoming the main reason she dislikes her title and status as the Voice of Naga, since it creates a barrier for normal interaction with those she meets.

A princess of Chon'sin, Say'ri seems different from the people of Ylisse and has an old fashioned look, which matches her manner of speech. She has a strong personality and always gets to the point.

Lucina is a strong-willed and driven woman who is determined to alter the dark future she came from. She values her comrades deeply and has a sense of justice. Due to the countless deaths and horrific events of the future, she dislikes any form of death, even "noble" ones. Her main motivations come from her love for her parents, especially Chrom. Lucina is willing to do whatever it takes to see that Chrom stays alive, even if it means going against her wish for no needless deaths. Nevertheless, she is obedient to Chrom and puts her trust in her father's judgements, showing a strong bond of trust with her father.

Similar to the Avatar in many ways, Morgan differs from the Avatar by the fact that, while having amnesia when they are introduced, they remember the Avatar at least and their goal of becoming a tactician like they are, spending much of their time trying to outwit them in various ways, eventually leading the Avatar to realize that Morgan is quite close to surpassing them and decides to study harder to stay ahead and motivate Morgan. They have a certain level of innocence and an optimistic outlook of life, willing to see everything good about the world rather than the bad, having a childish enthusiasm and being quick to play with others. Despite this though, they have their own insecurities regarding their memories. They express distress over the fact that they cannot remember their other parent and nearly every other memory that is not related to the Avatar, as in their supports with their other parent and sibling, they spend most of the time desperately trying to remember them from staring intensely into their face to bashing their head into a wooden post, hoping the impact would jog their memories. Nevertheless, they love their other parent and their siblings if they have any.

Described as a "colourful" character by Lucina, Owain has a habit of speaking in an overly theatrical fashion that most find tiresome and some find endearing. Always eager to engage others in duels, Owain attributes this to his sword hand craving battle, even though this is, in actuality, due to his desire to prove his mettle and improve his combat skills. Moreover, when facing people with actual bloodlust, such as Navarre, Owain quickly drops the act and desperately tries to diffuse the situation upon realizing that he went too far with it.

Kjelle is just as tomboyish as her mother. She has a kind heart and is protective of others, but tends to look down on weakness. She loves sparring, and if she sees someone who has ability, she will challenge him or her regardless of social standing. However, she hates people who look down on her because of her gender, just like her mother. She begins to receive fan mail from Sully's female fans upon reuniting with her mother. She likes armor more than anyone else in the army, both shown through the Army Roster and her supports with the female Avatar.

Laurent can be a bit cold and callous, much like his mother, as he inherited his mother's incredible academic prowess. While Miriel's scientific inquiries are focused in theory and discovering natural laws, Laurent tends to find practical applications for the subjects he studies, such as making the world's first fireworks in a support conversation with Miriel.

In the past, Cynthia was very girly and hated violence, but with the death of her mother, Cynthia discarded these aspects in order to learn how to be a hero. Cynthia continues to be a bright and energetic person despite her change in personality. She admires heroes and studies dramatic entrances to become a hero herself. Unfortunately, she inherited her mother's clumsiness and her entrances and pursuits to become a hero go differently than she plans. While she is clumsy, just like her mother, her enthusiasm and tomboyish nature makes up for it. She has a strong sense of justice though it can often become misguided, but nevertheless, she seeks to do the right thing. She highly admires her mother and father, both of whom she seeks to be like.

 Brady is extremely sensitive and vulnerable and uses his tough mannerisms as a means to mask them. This fact may be gleaned from his supports with his father, where he dismissively establishes an exterior of emotionless apathy towards the notion of being forgotten the moment the Brady of the current timeline is conceived. Upon being informed that he will neither be forgotten nor allowed to disappear from his father's life, this shell of stoic steeliness shatters, causing him to, as is his usual custom, cry as he retracts his words.

Yarne is incredibly cowardly, timid and excessively worried since his "Last Taguel" status makes him scared that if he dies, the Taguel will become extinct. In addition, he constantly fears that if his father cheats on Panne, he'll cease to exist, which he is also afraid of. Yarne also is afraid of anything, ranging from the enemy to insignificant things. He often tries to find a safe place to be in, such as being allied behind strong people or an area with no hazards at all. Like his mother, Panne, Yarne is able to detect friend or foe from a distance, as shown in a support with the female Avatar.

Describing herself as a snarky individual, Severa possesses a barbed tongue that she freely uses to speak in a cold, harsh and condescending manner to the people she interacts with. Despite her rudeness, she is known to have the tendency to mean the opposite of what she says, a fact that is often not detected by those who are already put off by her initial attitude. However, this exterior exists to protect a much more vulnerable side of herself. When she allows herself to be honest, she comes off as genuine.

Being used as a guinea pig for her mother's curses during her childhood, Noire has developed a cowardly and negative personality, usually being too timid to voice any opinions and easily intimidated, however, seemingly due to a talisman from her mother, she has something of a split personality, with her other self-acting more brash and aggressive and having no problem saying exactly what's on her mind while yelling, changing between both sides randomly mid-conversation and leaving others bewildered.

Inigo originally was as shy and withdrawn as his mother. However, due to the advice she gave him to talk to girls, he became outgoing and likes to socialize. Unfortunately this also causes Inigo to flirt with every girl he comes across, though most end up slapping and rejecting him. He has a tendency to cry and become extremely depressed when nothing goes the way he planned. Inigo dreams of becoming a dancer much like his mother, but is embarrassed to do so, even in front of her.

In contrast to her mother, Nah tries to be mature for her age and is accustomed to controlling her emotions. This is more so considering that Manaketes mature physically and psychologically slower compared to humans. On the other hand, her supports with other characters like Gerome and Inigo seem to display her more childish, possessive traits. She is constantly training to become stronger and useful, feeling that she might be outcasted for being a Manakete-Human hybrid.

Tending to keep his distance from others, especially those in the current timeline, Gerome believes meddling with the past is futile and that destiny cannot be changed, leading him to be apathetic to the fact that villagers are getting killed for sport in his recruitment paralogue. However, he ends up joining the Shepherds anyways, as he still holds onto a sliver of hope that they can avert the apocalyptic future that he lived in.

Unlike her warmongering father, Emmeryn is a peace-loving, kind, and forgiving ruler. She detests fighting as much as possible, and always searches to settle matters peacefully, even against people who wish to kill her. She shows a lot of bravery, willing to walk clearly into a dangerous situation that puts her life at risk without a moment's hesitation. She loves her two younger siblings dearly as well as her people, and cares for their well being. Because of this, she makes the ultimate sacrifice for the well being of everyone at the cost of her own life, feeling that one life could save millions.

Sadly, even though she survived her fall, Emmeryn suffered severe brain damage. As a consequence she is left a shell of her former self, unable to recall much of her former exalted life and having a fragmented speech pattern. Thankfully, she retains her loving and caring personality and a desire to remember her sister and brother. She is the most resilient person in the army. Her birthday is December 23.

Yen'fay has an old fashioned and serious personality and enjoys meditation. He has deep loyalty to his country as he was willing to join forces with the Valm empire to stop further bloodshed of innocent lives. However, much of his loyalty was actually due to his love and care for his younger sister, Say'ri.  The Yen'fay from the alternate timeline suffers from survivor guilt. He constantly degrades himself for allowing his dear sister to die and stood by and defended her grave as a form of atonement before being thrown into the present timeline. Although he is happy to see that his sister is alive in the current timeline, he cannot bring himself to associate himself with her due to his sorrow. Nevertheless, this Yen'fay still cares deeply for his sister, however much of his motivation is to atone for his weakness and make sure that Say'ri lives a happier life this time.

Walhart is an indomitable force, suited for a conqueror, destroying all who stand in his path to glory. He hates losing and turning his back to an enemy more than anything and believes that only through power and calculated ruthlessness can the world be united and usher an era of peace. While he holds down his opposition by force, he has the charisma needed to lead a country and sway others to join his cause.

Intially, Gangrel appears to be a bloodthirsty king searching for violence, as he attempted to provoke Ylisse into war with Plegia because he sought to control the continent, even mocking Emmeryn as too naive and kind. Gangrel reveals he hates the world and even his own subjects due to his harsh past. After his defeat at the Border Wastes, he toned down his thirst for killing, and seeks forgiveness for his actions.

Aversa is a cruel, manipulative, and cold woman highlighted with her seductive traits. She is fiercely loyal to her superiors, though more so to Validar who supposedly took her in from the streets as an orphan. Due to Validar's brainwashing, she is willing to die for him, and continues serving Grima after his death.

Priam has a great sense of fighting and trains vigorously, albeit in an excessive way. He has a "training regimen" for everything; making weapons, utilizing chi, and even eating. At a young age, he went for his first training regimen and was attacked by a bear. He states that he was able to win due to the energies in the forest that helped him prevail.
