Final Fantasy 6 (PR) Episode 1 Fandub

Final Fantasy 6 (PR) Episode 1 Fandub

Project Overview

I am a huge fan of old Final Fantasy classics, and Final Fantasy VI (III in America) was always my most favorite classic FF game of all time. It was actually the first Final Fantasy that sparked the my love towards the series when I was much younger. Now that I bought the Pixel Remaster of the game, I can re-live those youthful times again by making a Fandub project out of this game. This game blew my mind when I was younger and it still is one of my favorite FF games ever played. I will NOT include the minor roles in this episode such as Narshe Guards or Moogles. When the project is casted, I will ask if anyone want to take on those extra roles through Discord (which i share later).

There are few rules that you need to take into consideration:

1.) Absolutely NO soulless/monotone/emotionless auditions! Those get an automatic "No" from me and you will not be casted if you go that way!

2.) DO NOT make your auditions/lines peak, pop or anything else that might hurt your audition. Use pop filter if you have one.

3.) NO BACKGROUND NOISES ALLOWED! As i stated above have a good quality microphone that is free from background noises, pops, peaking ect. Also don't make your lines sound like you're "eating your microphone" (also one of the reasons peaking will happen).

4.) Use common sense while auditioning.

Role assigned to: TriforceAK

At the onset of Final Fantasy VI, Terra is confused and fearful and has amnesia, strengthening her hesitations. She has no idea who or what she is or what the war she has been caught up in is about. The few memories she has imply she was a willing soldier of the Empire, disturbing her and causing her to be wary of joining the Returners, uncertain if she belongs with them and can trust them. Terra comes to hate and fear her powers, as she feels they are only good for destruction and alienate her from others who fear her or would exploit her abilities.

Following her connecting with the magicite of her father, Maduin, Terra regains all her memories and gains better control over her powers. She becomes more proactive in aiding the Returners to try and establish peace between humans and espers. However, she still rejects her power, having now seen what the Empire has used magic for, and feeling that others are hungry for power only to fight.

Terra has a fondness for moogles, expressed in many of her spin-off appearances where she interacts with the creatures.

  • [confused] Where...am I? [feeling bit ill] My head... hurts...

  • [Remembers her name but nothing else] My name is...Terra...

  • [confused] Empire...? Magitek armor...?

Role assigned to: Sean Madson

Locke is cheerful, adventurous, and courageous. He is always eager to go exploring and look for treasure, and is particularly eager to fight the Empire. He is often snarky and sly, making jokes at the expense of others (particularly Edgar) and coming up with bold plans. A running gag in Final Fantasy VI is that Locke loathes being called a thief and insists he is a "treasure hunter".

Despite his outward pleasant demeanor, Locke is motivated to fight the Empire out of guilt; his lover Rachel was killed in an Imperial raid and Locke blames the Empire for her death, but he also blames himself, as Rachel had developed amnesia saving him from a fall and he had left her to start a new life without him when the raid occurred. Locke has spent an untold amount of time scouring the world for a rumored "treasure" the Empire has that can revive the dead, to use it to revive Rachel and atone what he feels is one of the worst mistakes he has made.

  • [To Arvis (shown as "Old Man" in this episode)] I prefer the term "treasure hunting"! Anyway, is there something you need me to do?

  • [conforting bunch of guards in the Narshe mines while guarding unconscious Terra, bit annoyed] Wonderful... There's a whole bunch of 'em....

  • [after Rescuing Terra] I'm not gonna up and abandon someone just because they lost their memory! I'll keep you safe! I promise!

Arvis (Old Man)

Role assigned to: Fugitive_Unknown

Arvis is a good-natured man who helps Terra escape from the Narshe Guards despite her being an enemy, believing that she is not responsible for her actions due to the Slave Crown. Arvis is frustrated by his fellow townspeople taking a neutral stance on the Third Gestahlian Campaign, believing that Narshe will not stay safe from imperial aggression. He has grown disillusioned by unsuccessfully trying to convince the residents to side with the Returners, describing them as "too stubbornly independent".

  • [after Terra has awakened in his house and mentioned her head hurts] Easy, there! This is a slave crown. The others were using it to control you. It was robbing you of your thoughts -- making it so you'd do whatever they told you.

  • [Guards banging on his door looking for Terra, to Terra] There's no time to explain! You need to get out of here! These fools aren't going to listen to reason. This way! Quickly! Make your way out of town through the mines! I'll try to buy you some time!

  • [To Locke, after telling him he met a girl] The city guard is pursuing her as we speak. This city has the strength to stand up to the Empire, but it won't use it. The people are just too stubbornly independent to join an underground resistance group like the Returners. I tried to explain that the Empire was controlling the girl, but they wouldn't even listen...

Biggs & Wedge

Role assigned to: Preston Le

This one is "double" role, since they share same sprites and "mugshots".

Both are professional soldiers focused on their mission. Biggs is skeptical regarding the presence of the esper in Narshe and fearful of Terra due to rumors of her powers, derisively referring to her as a "witch". Wedge is more confident, reasoning their superiors would not have sent Terra with them if they did not trust their intelligence, and he reassures Biggs of Terra's obedience due to the Slave Crown controlling her thoughts. Of the two Wedge seems to be the senior officer, as he is usually the one to give orders to the other two.

  • Wedge: "There's the city."

Biggs: "Hard to believe an esper's been found frozen there a thousand years after the War of the Magi."

Biggs: "Bah! Probably just another wild goose chase."

Wedge: "I don't know. They wouldn't have let us use her unless they were confident that the information was good."

Biggs: [turns over to Terra] "Ah, yes...our witch. I hear she fried fifty of our Magitek armored soldiers in three minutes... Kinda makes your skin crawl, don't it?"

Wedge: "Relax. With that thing on her head, she's a mindless puppet. The girl won't even breathe unless we tell her to."

Wedge: "We'll approach from the east! Move out!"

  • [while battling Ymir (the lightning whelk]

Biggs: "Hold it! This thing's a...! They must have trained it to guard the mines!"

Wedge: "What are you talking about? You know what this is?"

Biggs: "Ever heard of a lightning whelk? It's a monster that absorbs lightning."

Wedge: "...and stores the energy in its shell!"

Biggs: "Right. So whatever you do, don't attack the shell!"

    Wedge: "Got it!"

  • [closing in the frozen esper]

Biggs: "So...this is the frozen esper?"

Wedge: "This thing's giving me the creeps. Something's not right...!"

Kefka Palazzo

Role assigned to: Dylan William van de Wal

Kefka cares nothing about anyone or anything but himself and he finds no greater joy in life than in inflicting suffering and death unto others. He has no long-reaching goal for his destructive actions, destruction itself is the goal. He manipulates the emotions of others and will readily lie without hesitation, but his purpose for doing this is again usually nothing but his own amusement in tormenting them. Kefka's need to inflict suffering drives him to continuously greater heights to sate his urges, culminating with the ruination of the entire world and the deaths of countless creatures.

Confronted by the party at the end of the game, Kefka reveals the ultimate revelation he has achieved—that life is meaningless. All things that live will die, everything people care about will be destroyed, and everything they achieved will be forgotten. Thus Kefka declares that struggling to continue living in the face of death is pointless and stupid, and people should accept their fates and surrender themselves to destruction at his hands. When the party refutes his claims with their personal reasons for living, Kefka flies into a rage and declares that he will destroy those reasons, and the concepts of love and hope are worthless and he will destroy them as well.

Kefka is flamboyant and childish. He is shorttempered and flies into rages at the slightest provocation and has no self-control or restraint. He cracks dark jokes about the atrocities he commits and frequently breaks into hysterical laughter. He is a narcissist who enjoys crossdressing and admiring his own appearance in mirrors. His Ultimania profiles state he enjoys playing with dolls and hates General Leo, who is a morally upstanding soldier. Though he enjoys hurting others, Kefka cannot stand to be hurt himself and the sight of his own blood sends him into a violent rage.

  • [to Terra, maniacly] My sweet little magic user... Uwee-hee-hee! With this slave crown, you'll be all mine!

  • [To terra once she killed one of the imperial soldier] Uwee-hee-hee! Good, good! Burn them all to a crisp!

Gestahl

Role assigned to: JuanVA

Gestahl is an ambitious and ruthless man who desires nothing less than total control over the world. Gestahl personally led an invasion of the esper world twenty years before the start of Final Fantasy VI and he ordered his men to abduct espers with intent to experiment on them and drain their powers. When Gestahl saw the collapsed Madeline thrown out of the esper world, he took the infant Terra from her arms and laughed as he realized she was a half-esper child, and that he could use her to accelerate his plans. When Madeline stood up and called out to stop him, Gestahl coldly told her to be quiet and struck her (it is ambiguous if he killed her or merely knocked her down).

Gestahl is a charismatic speaker and a consummate liar. He inspired genuine loyalty in hundreds if not thousands of Imperial soldiers, and convinced the Returners he truly wanted peace and wanted to negotiate a truce with the espers; though they did not fully trust him at his word, they went along with his plan. In the Cave to the Sealed Gate, Kefka Palazzo claimed that Gestahl purposefully let Terra escape the Empire and join the Returners, as part of a plan to get them to open the Sealed Gate for them. It is unknown if Kefka was telling the truth, but the suspicious evacuation of the Imperial Observation Post and Kefka's timely arrival at the Sealed Gate right as the Returners get there would suggest that if Gestahl had not intended this all along, he was at least able to anticipate their actions and set a trap for them.

Under Gestahl's rule the Empire has invaded many cities and killed thousands, and he shows no regret or remorse over these deeds. While others in the Empire loathe Kefka for his cruelty and bloodthirsty nature, Gestahl trusts him for the same reasons and has no issue with Kefka's actions, which often include the pointless deaths of the Empire's own troops. Gestahl cares little for the Empire except as a means to acquire power for himself. While the Imperial capital Vector burned from an esper attack, Gestahl remained in the Imperial Palace and threw a banquet. Given the opportunity to seize the Warring Triad, Gestahl abandoned Vector and went to the Floating Continent to claim them, and had the Imperial Air Force defend the continent from his enemies. When he felt that Kefka, the last ally he had, could no longer be trusted, Gestahl attempted to kill him.

Gestahl's objective is to rule the world, which causes him and Kefka to turn on each other when Kefka tries to awakening the Warring Triad, as that would devastate the world and Gestahl has no interest in that. Gestahl's final words before Kefka kicks him off the Floating Continent differ between the Super NES and Game Boy Advance versions. In the Super NES script, he says "there'll be no one to worship us", a final attempt to reason with Kefka and convince him not to go through with his actions. In the Game Boy Advance script, he says "the world is about to learn the meaning of fear", showing terror over what Kefka is about to do and the consequences humankind will suffer for it.

Gestahl collects paintings and commissioned an artist in Albrook to do his portrait. However, the Emperor was dead by the time the artist completed the work, so it was sold to Owzer in Jidoor and put on display in his mansion.

  • Soldiers of the Empire! We stand at the dawn of a new age!

  • The lost power of magic has returned to us! We are the chosen ones!

  • The time has come for us to claim our rightful dominion over the world! Nothing shall stand in our way!

This is the narrator at the beginning in the game and between the character naming segments.

  • The ancient War of the Magi... When its flames at last receded, only the charred husk of a world remained. Even the power of magic was lost...

  • In the thousand years that followed, iron, gunpowder, and steam engines took the place of magic and life slowly returned to the barren land.

  • Yet there now stands one who would reawaken the magic of ages past and use its dreaded power as a means by which to conquer all the world. Could anyone truly be foolish enough to repeat that mistake?
