She is the Shinigami who gives Misa Amane one of the Death Notes she had. Like Ryuk, Rem possesses two Death Notes; however, Rem did not get hers through trickery. The Shinigami Gelus, who had fallen in love with Misa, sacrificed himself to kill her destined murderer. In doing so he was reduced to dust, leaving only his Death Note. Rem delivered this Death Note to Misa, since it was her life he saved.
"If you try to harm this girl, I will write your name in my note and kill you."
He leaves the Task Force after the NPA discontinues funding. He returns before Ryuzaki's death and is one of the first people after the time skip to suspect Light Yagami of being Kira. After the Kira case ends, Aizawa becomes Chief of the NPA.
"Now I know this for sure.. I've always hated Ryuzaki. I hate him AND his way of doing things!"
He is one of the most dedicated members of the Japanese Task Force but also one of the most reserved.
*Say something you think would fit*
He helps coordinate the Task Force's efforts and performs actions such as organizing a blockade of police cars.
"We have a long history. I can tell exactly what you're thinking about and what's bothering you. Between you and me, you should go ahead and do what you think is right. I didn't trust L to begin with. I never did, to be honest. I didn't sign up to join the Kira Task Force because Light was running it. I joined because I wanted to work with you."
"Yes, but of all people, the police shouldn't use fake IDs."
In addition to being L's handler, Watari is also the supplier of logistics for the Task Force.
"I'm sending you the images of the text and picture they left."
He is a conman hired by L to pose as Eraldo Coil in order to gain the trust of the members of the Yotsuba Group.
"With the evidence you have on me, I'm looking at a life behind bars. This is a lot more fun than that. One reason I can't quit being a con man is the thrill of it."
