Lead, age 17. Young, warm, earnest, edgy loner.
I don't run from fire anymore. I carry it, even when it burns what I remember.
I'm sorry. I tried to save her, and I couldn't remember the song after. That hurts more than any wound.
You killed them! You killed my squad mate, and you stand there like it meant nothing! I will never forgive you for this!
Age 17. Soft, wary teenage girl.
I'm not a weapon. I'm just scared of what I am.
I'm sorry, I didn't mean to hurt him. I was trying to protect him, and I lost control. Please, don't be afraid of me.
You took someone I loved, and you call that necessary? I won't let you do it to anyone else!
Captain. Warm, steady.
You're Ninth now. That means we don't leave anyone behind, not ever.
I write their names down so no one forgets them. Not you, not anyone.
You killed one of mine. Look me in the eye and say it was worth it. I dare you.
Age 18. Bright, teasing.
Hey, if we're going to die out here, at least we're going to laugh first.
Don't joke about this, okay? I'm scared too. I'm just trying to keep us laughing so we don't fall apart.
That was my friend! You don't get to laugh about that, you don't get to walk away from that!
Age 19. Sharp, guarded.
I don't miss. I said it once, and I don't talk about it after.
I don't cry in front of anyone. But I miss her. I miss her so much it hurts to aim straight.
You killed them, and you think a uniform makes it clean? It doesn't. It never did.
Commander. Cold, still.
The girl is army property. Hand her over, Captain. That's not a request.
I gave that order. I live with it. Don't tell me about cost, Captain, I know exactly what it costs.
You disobeyed a direct order, and people died for it. Do you understand what you've done?
