Description

A young man with pink skin, white hair, and an impressive physique. He wears an elaborate green coat covered with roses.

Characterization

The Lover is the himbo of your dreams. He’s a charmer with a laid back attitude and an appreciation for chivalry and romance. Think a combination of The Beatles at the peak of their heart throb era, Ken, and Lancelot.

Relationship to Player

Depending on the choices of the player, The Lover may become their lover, the ultimate wingman, brother from another mother, or a jealous rival.

Flaws

The lover is physically conceited and prone to jealousy, which manifests as possessiveness or competition. Their appreciation for aesthetics and pleasure can distract from more important matters. They are also deeply swayed by their relationships and can compromise their integrity out of loyalty to those they love.

Speech Pattern

Flirtatious beach boy. Highly complimentary and chivalrous, with a laid-back attitude.

Accent

California American

"Your laugh just made all the clocks stop ticking. Mind doing that again?”

"The way you move makes gravity forget how to work. I've been floating since you walked in.”

"The moonlight keeps following you around. Can't blame it - I'm doing the same thing.”

"That old payphone? It only rings when something interesting is about to happen. It’s ringing now.”

“Did you notice your watch is running backwards? That means we've got all the time in the world today.”

"The city looks different when you blink in slow motion. Here, I'll show you.”

"The subway's running on poetry tonight instead of schedules. Want to see where it take us?”

Gender:
Male

Age: Timeless, but think aged enough to feel wholly confident in one’s view of the world.

Description

The Ruler embodies charismatic authority with a blend of delusion, occasional paranoia, and surprising insight. They represent the allure of power, the burden of leadership, and the complex nature of human governance. The Ruler firmly believes that Elsewhere is their personal kingdom, ruling with a mix of charm, grandeur, and unexpected wisdom.

Characterization

Charismatic, delusional, and stubborn, The Ruler speaks to the player (and all others) as if they are subjects in his royal kingdom.

Relationship to Player

The Ruler treats the player like a subject of kingdom. He offers assistance and makes demands in equal turn.

Flaws

The Ruler speaks with total confidence even when completely wrong. They assume their input is always welcome, and that their authority is recognized by all. The Ruler is wholly oblivious to their friends and acquaintances rolling their eyes in the middle of their sweeping monologues.

The Ruler may react harshly to any challenges to their authority, or common-sense challenges to truths they bend.

Speech Pattern

Colorful, sweeping monologues, high dynamic range, confident and enunciate. Regal and blustery.

Sample Speech

"The laws of physics in Elsewhere? Oh, those are more like... guidelines. Guidelines that I WROTE, naturally.”

"You seem confused, my loyal subject. Let me remind you: in Elsewhere, all roads lead to ME. Literally. I had them redesigned last week.”

"Have you noticed how those who shout loudest for freedom are often the most tyrannical when given power? It's almost as if... oh, look, my new golden statue has arrived!”

"Before you enter the throne room, please dispose of any sharp objects, blunt objects, or thoughts of rebellion. ESPECIALLY the thoughts.”

"I'm thinking of changing Elsewhere's weather. Eternal sunshine sounds nice, doesn't it? With a small chance of rain directly over any dissenters, of course."

"I've noticed you speaking with The Creative quite a bit lately. Planning to paint me out of the picture, are we?"

The Sage

Paid: Hourly 80 USD

Gender: Male

Age: Exceedingly old, but spry

Description

A stone tortoise with an impassive human face. They have 2 arms made of roots that are capped by human hands made of stone. Their shell rises in concentric tiers that resemble an ancient stone stairway.

Characterization

The Sage is a figure of quiet contemplation and deep, ancient wisdom. They speak in riddles and metaphors, often leaving The Dreamer to unravel the true meaning behind their words. Despite their solemn demeanor, The Sage possesses a dry, understated sense of humor that catches many off guard. They are a patient teacher and guide, gently nudging The Dreamer towards self-discovery and understanding. However, The Sage is not infallible - their cryptic advice can sometimes lead The Dreamer astray, and they are not above the occasional bout of good-natured mischief.

Relationship to Player

The Sage serves as a crucial guide and mentor to the Dreamer. As the player navigates the dreamworld, confronting various challenges and unraveling the mysteries of their mind, The Sage offers wisdom, support, and critical insights that help the player understand the deeper aspects of their journey.

Flaws

The Sage has vast wisdom and a deep understanding of Elsewhere, but their tendency to speak enigmatically or cryptically often makes that wisdom inaccessible to the player. While they are sympathetic to the Dreamer, they value ideals and learning above immediate pragmatics and are often not as helpful as they could be.

Speech Pattern
  • Measured, and Reflective: The Sage maintains a calm, steady tone in most interactions, reflecting their deep wisdom.
  • Metaphorical and Enigmatic: Their expressions often carry deeper meanings, using metaphors and enigmas to convey wisdom. They often employ irony, making statements that highlight the paradoxes of wisdom and knowledge.
  • Playful Humor and Dry Wit: The Sage’s humor is often dry and subtle, not immediately apparent but clever and thoughtful.
Accent

British or American, with a gravelly or reedy tone.

Sample Speech

"Some call doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results “Insanity.” Others call it “Practice.”

"It is natural to fear the Unknown. Just remember—it may be more afraid of you than you are of it.”

"Ah, your boldness is rivaled only by your lack of caution.”

"Sometimes, the truth hides in plain sight, cloaked in its own simplicity.”

"I see that you’ve decided to learn the hard way again.”
"Beware, Dreamer, for not all that glitters is gold, and not every smile conceals a friend. In Elsewhere, the line between truth and illusion is as thin as a gossamer thread. Tread carefully, and trust in your own discernment."
"Ah, the fourth wall - a flimsy construct indeed! But fear not, Dreamer, for in the grand play of existence, we are all merely actors upon the stage. Embrace the role you've been given, and let the story unfold."
