Elder Vale: Awakening

Sorn is a cartographer that has no problem leaving his forgotten past behind him. But when the shop of his best friend gets blown up, he goes on a job across the sea to get some money. While on the job he's thrown overboard and lost in the large continent of Elder Vale. Now Sorn must team up with a crew for hire if he plans to get back home. But such a trip turns out to be nowhere as easy as he hoped.

What is Elder Vale: Awakening:
Elder Vale: Awakening is an hour-long pilot for an upcoming audio drama series I plan to write and publish on Youtube. At the moment the pilot has been written (and has gone into the Beta Reading phase,) and the future episodes scripts have been started on. Elder Vale: Awakening is a PG rating, but doesn't shy away from themes of death, war, abuse, and other heavy themes. This story can be enjoyed by any age of the audience.
Because this is an ongoing series, some roles on here will have longer commitments than others. Please keep this in mind when recording.

Please keep in mind when auditioning:
This audio drama has multiple characters that are part of the LGBTQ+ community. If this isn’t something you support, do not audition.
Regarding the above, characters that are part of this community will have it in their casting information. While I’m looking for someone who can voice the character perfectly, I also enjoy casting people who identify the same as the character to give a chance for representation. You’re not forced to say whether you identify the same, but it may help your chances. (If you don’t identify the same, please don’t say you do to up your chances.)

Sorn is a Dark Elf cartographer gifted with magic who's complete contempt in his life. While he doesn't remember much of his past, he doesn't care to remember it at all. All the while he's haunted by a reoccurring dream of a dark hallway where dread lingers. Still, he enjoys his work and his life. But whenever he's forced to take a job overseas, his life is flipped upside down. Sorn comes across a bit of a dorky scholar and pretty passive as the main character. But his travels will force him to become a force that must drive the history of this world forward. I'm looking for someone that can play a character that switches from someone afraid of change to someone who's willing to face it head-on.
This role is an ongoing role after Elder Vale: Awakening.
Sorn is a nonbinary masc person.
(Context: Sorn is trying to talk his friend, and shopkeeper, Aelor, into letting him stay the night in her shop to work on a map. She wants him to get up early though and go to town with her tomorrow.)
SORN: “You get up so early though. I may as well get up in the morning and start on the map then.”
SORN: “But I- .... I’m in a sort of flow.”
SORN: "Yea, a sort of flow."
(Context: He's explaining his dreams to someone.)
SORN: “I’m not sure. I was in this dark hallway, alone, and suddenly there was this voice. It’s not the first time I’ve had it.”
SORN: “It probably doesn’t mean anything…”
(Action sounds)

Aelor is an elven woman that owns a book store with Sorn. She's been watching over Sorn for years after he woke up with no memories of his past. Aelor is a sweet woman that holds much patience.
This is possibly an ongoing role.
(Context: She's talking to Sorn about a recent map he made.)
AELOR: “Let me see it.”
AELOR: “The edges look detailed, cities and settlements are in the correct positions... Are these rivers correct?”
AELOR: “The one near Fort Assel? I don’t remember ever seeing this one on other maps?”
AELOR: (Faint Hmph of amusement.) “You always did know how to spot the hidden ones.”
(Context: She's trying to talk Sorn into heading home instead of staying in the shop to work on a map. It isn't working.)
AELOR: “Well, how about you stop here? I’m about to close up shop.”
AELOR: “The Mer iles can wait tomorrow. It’s not safe to keep the shop open so late.”
AELOR: “Just one night?”
AELOR: "Hm..."
AELOR: “Fine. Under one condition.”
(Context: Aelor's shop was just blown up.)
AELOR: (Crying.) “Everything is gone…”
AELOR: (Crying.) “My shop is gone… everything I built…”
AELOR: (Through tears.) “What…?”
Diddy is a celetial0born stranger that helps Sorn after he's stranded in Hwen with nowhere to go. Diddy holds lots of knowledge about magic and the gods of Elder Vale, however, he holds skepticism over the gods. Diddy is a very calm and gentle person. Being the perfect thing lost Sorn needs.
Diddy is a trans man.
This is an ongoing role.
(Context: Diddy just helped Sorn and is now talking to him.)
DIDDY: “No offense, but you look like you’ve been through Hell.”
DIDDY: “So, uh, what happened?”
DIDDY: “If you don’t want to tell me, that’s fine. You just looked like you needed help out there.”
(Context: Diddy is explaining to Sorn the racism in Mivel.)
DIDDY: “Here in Mivel, not everyone is treated so equally.”
DIDDY: “ For example, remember what that guy at the bar called you? A lesser? That’s common here. From a dark elf, to an Orc.”
DIDDY: “If you’re considered a race from monsters of old, well, then you’re a lesser.”
DIDDY: “Me? No. I don’t get such treatment. In fact, I’m considered one of the more blessed races. Celestial-Born.”
(Action sounds)

Captain Zyn Juv is the captain of the ship Sorn will be traveling on for the majority of the series. Zyn is a loud, wise cracking and quick spoken Dark Elf who holds closely to the idea of helping others. While they're the captain of their crew, they holds more of a proud parent energy towards them all. However, they do act sarcastic and jokes with them a lot. Zyn has a bit of a salesman energy to them when proposing ideas to others.
Zyn is a nonbinary.
This is an ongoing role.
(Context: While their friends were inside, Zyn made a bet with their partner, Brissi. Their friend just returned.)
ZYN: “Raider, were you tied up and Albar killed the innkeeper?”
ZYN: “Glad to hear it. Honey, gold.”
(Context: Zyn sees Sorn at the docks and goes up to talk to him.)
ZYN: “Well, well, well, is that an Elven kin I see?”
ZYN: “Ah, yes. My eyes are correct.”
ZYN: “Pleasure to meet you. Captain Zyn Juv, at your service.”
ZYN: “See Sorn, as a captain I’ve been able to have an eye for very specific things. And I know the thoughts of my Dark Elven Brethren when I see it.”

ZYN: “You’re talking about a three-week travel, my friend. Luckily I found you and decided to give you a friends and kin discount. Not everyday you see a Dark Elf topside. Well, at least not in Mivel. I’m sure where you’re from it’s a bit more common.”
ZYN: (A bit more serious than what they've been) “Sorn, I can tell you now and we don’t make it to Trening on time because I have another client that may need me by then, or else we go now, and my crew and I get you home all safe and sound and tidy? So?”
(Action sounds)

The Ms to Zyn's ship. Brissi is Zyn's partner and first mate. Much like Zyn she fills almost a parent role on the ship and is the reassuring pat they need from time to time. Brissi has an elegant, gentle and sweet voice. However, she can get assertive and angry when she needs to.
This is an ongoing role.
(Context: She's making a bet with Zyn.)
BRISSI: “Bet you five gold Albar already killed the Inkeeper.”
BRISSI: “Let me rephrase that then. Bet you five gold, Albar tied up Raider, then killed the Innkeeper.”
(Context: Calling out to the crew.)
BRISSI: “Right, Captain! You all heard them! Get on up here!”
(Action sounds)

Raider is a human on Zyn's crew and medic. Where Zyn and Brissi are hopeful, Raider is more cynical about things. However, he carries a bit of comedic relief with his friend, Albar. Raider should have a bit more of a distinct accent in the way his lines are written.

(Context: He's defending his friends from a racist innkeeper)
RAIDER: “Look, we’re not here to cause any trouble.”
RAIDER: “They’re just a Dark Elf, man. Nothin’ dangerous bout ‘em.”
RAIDER: “A Geeko-folk.”
RAIDER: “Honestly, you think a Geeko-folk is goin’ to do anythin’?”
(Context: Raider brings back his freind, Albar, food after being told to keep an eye on Sorn.)
RAIDER: “Albar.”
RAIDER: “Here. I got you your weird… fruit paste… for breakfast.”
RAIDER: “Ah, ah, ah. I will give it to you, but, makin’ sure-”
RAIDER: “Is that elf still round?”
RAIDER: “No. No. Don’t shake that head of yours. Nod.”
RAIDER: “Yeeesss.”
RAIDER: “Yeeesss- you’re just sayin’ that to get the food, aren’t you?”
(Action sounds)

Albar is a Geeko-folk girl and Raider's best friend. While I don't have an exact voice in mind for Albar, she's much more different than the other roles. Albar should have a more animalistic sound to her voice. Think of Donald Duck, but more like a lizard. While she says stuff, it's just so hard to understand her. Along with this, Albar is the most childish out of the group and sometimes cause more problems than solves them.
This is an ongoing role.

A fellow Dark Elf that holds magic. At first, Zara comes across as a friendly Dark Elf trying to teach Sorn what she knows on magic. But very quickly her sinister intentions show. Zara is very much a character that always carries a cheerful tone in almost everything she does. Even when she's showing disappointment, which makes her comments hit even harder.
This is an ongoing role possibly.
(Context: Zara is talking to Sorn about magic.)
ZARA: “If you don’t mind me asking, Sorn, I heard you have magic too? I mean, I can see you have it, but still.”
ZARA: “Can’t you? You never noticed the strange aura around me?”
ZARA: (Chuckles.) “Did you really just notice only now?”
ZARA: “All magicians have them. Your’s is blue-ish, maybe a bit green, in case you didn’t know.”
ZARA: “It’s not the prettiest color, to be honest.”
(Context: Talking about dreams with Sorn.)
ZARA: “Maybe, maybe not. Raymond says the same thing. ‘Oh, they mean nothing, just your mind going wild.’ But I think dreams do mean something.”

(Context: Zara shows Sorn a dangerous item, but it doesn't affect him. Her partner is urging her to just leave Sorn.)
ZARA: “It didn’t work?”
ZARA: “But it didn’t work on him. Our lady says it should work on everyone.”
ZARA: “But he may know something important.”
(Her friend is attacked.)
ZARA: "Raymond!"

(Note: Calypso is a minor role in this pilot and for the first season. But afterward, she becomes a lead role.)
Calypso is a demi-goddess lost at sea. Not much is known about her at the beginning, but as this adventurer goes on, more about her will be revealed.
Calypso is a bit of an excitable and uppity sort. Being on her own for years has made her the type to talk aloud to herself and says whatever comes to her mind.
(Context: Calypso is talking aloud to herself as if she's writing in a journal. However, she doesn't have a journal to write in.)
CALYPSO: “Day 9,125, Hour sixteen. Nothing today either."
CALYPSO: “After sailing East for 714 days, still nothing. I will go back and try to signal someone, anyone, again in an hour; maybe two?”
CALYPSO: “Maybe I should try another direction?”
CALYPSO: (Gradually she grows more anxious and speaks faster and faster.) “But what if I’m close to an island? Or another ship would pass me by? What if today’s the day I finally see someone and I change course and miss them?! What if-!"
CALYPSO: “No. just, calm down for a second. Take deep breaths.”
CALYPSO: “Okay. I’m good.”

A mysterious voice Sorn hears in his dreams or when he needs help. This voice should be very soft and gentle, yet assertive. Almost otherworldly in how they deliver their lines.
You may add effects to your auditions. But please also include a raw version of the audio in the audition.

STRANGE VOICE: "Sorn... Sorn... Sorn..."
(Context: Warning Sorn.)
STRANGE VOICE: "Don't look!"
STRANGE VOICE: "You're in danger."
STRANGE VOICE: "You must get out of here."
STRANGE VOICE: "Fight back. They are going to kill you!"
The partner in crime with Zara. Though he's much more upfront in tone about his sinister nature.

(Context: He's reporting to Zara)
RAYMOND: “I’m done below. Just get him and let’s go.”
(Context: The dangerous item doesn't work on Sorn and he gets agitated.)
RAYMOND: “Ugh, we don’t have time for this. Let’s just shoot him and get out of here.”
RAYMOND: “We were ordered to gather whoever we can and we can’t get him.”
RAYMOND: “They said they’re heading our way. Shoot him and let’s be done with-”
(Context: Fighting Sorn, who just tackled him.)
RAYMOND: “Get off of me, Mud Elf!”
(Action sounds)

A racist innkeeper that tries to turn away Sorn.
(Context: The innkeeper is getting mad at Raider and his friends.)
INNKEEPER: “And I told you, I don’t serve your friend’s kind here.”
INNKEEPER: “She’s a lesser! And what about that little one with the hood there.”
INNKEEPER: “Look, I’ll say it again. You’re fine. Your other human friend is fine. But your lesser friends need to scram! Especially that-”
Mrs. Addie is an elderly woman and customer at Aelor's shop.
(Context: She's talking to Aelor about Sorn.)
MRS. ADDIE: “I do worry for him from time to time. He doesn’t leave the store often.”
MRS. ADDIE: “Well, you tell him I want you to go out with you the next time you go shopping for food.”
2 roles for 2 sailors Sorn run into. 2 people will be casted for these roles.
(Context: Trying to shoo off Sorn.)
SAILOR: "Bah!"
SAILOR: "Beat it!"
2 cultist attacks the market and blows up Aelor's shop. 2 people will be picked for this role.
(Context: screaming during a terrorist attack.)
CULTIST: “All hail The Lost Son!”
CULTIST: “The Lost Son is the true god!”
This role is for two different guard. Two people will be picked for this role. One guard is rude and the other is slightly more understanding. They both help Sorn after he's thrown overboard a ship and washed ashore.
(Context: Understand guard is trying to help Sorn.)
GUARD: “Give him a moment to think. The poor guy looks like he’s been through alot.”
GUARD: “The best I can tell you is to see if you can find a ship heading towards Trening. I wouldn’t recommend staying here long. The war has made many people anxious of outsiders.”
(Context: Rude guard is talking to Sorn.)
GUARD: “In case you didn’t know, you’re in Hwen now. You were found on the shore a few hours ago. Where are you from? Are you a citizen of Mivel?”
GUARD: “So not only are you a Dark Elf, but also you’re not even a citizen of Mivel?”
GUARD: “May as well as left you on the shore.”
Just a guard.
(Context: He's comforting Aelor after her shop was destroyed.)
HAZELMERE GUARD: "I'm sorry, ma'am."
