Drama in 10

Drama in 10

Project Overview

‘Drama in 10’ is a new monthly 10-minute anthology podcast series by Amman Abid, a playwright based in London, UK. Each month, we ask our listeners to ‘Sit back as you are whisked away on a journey to somewhere new, somewhere intriguing, or somewhere where you should not be.’

The 10-minute anthology series opens up new opportunities for short form storytelling told through audio, and this format will give listeners and artists a touchpoint to explore various themes, genres and the zeitgeist of our time.

I’m thrilled to be in this arena which is new to me and I’m self-funding this monthly fiction drama series. I care deeply about the art of creating drama, which is why working with talent will make this an even more creative and expressive journey. I will always do my utmost to make those who work with me a positive experience; and, I look forward to working with you.

I’m seeking three voice actors, who must be 18 years or older, who I intend to take into space in my next episode, to be published at the end of June. Think of the movies Gravity, Interstellar or even AD Astra. It will be a thought-provoking story packed into 10 minutes.

I would recommend listening to my produced episodes which I hope gives you a glimpse of my work, and whether this is something you would like to be a part of.

Leader of the new Orion mission to the Moon and a former military aggressor pilot. Responsible for creating a harmonious environment which is highly productive and highly successful. She is the Protagonist of the story.

  • I grew up looking at the night sky and wondering what was out in the heavens. And now I’m here, drifting all alone… I wonder if heaven is actually what we make of it on earth.

  • Was I wrong? Did I demand too much? Should I have been there for them? I always thought we had a fifty-fifty chance of landing safely on the moon, and a 90% chance of returning home… I guess the math won and I won’t get to see another human face.

  • (recollecting as a fighter pilot) I wanted to kill this guy. Adrenaline was pumping through me. I was full of rage, and excitement. I thought - if it comes to it, I’m gonna have to ram this guy and if it all goes to hell, I’ll eject. Maybe he read my mind, I don’t know. At this point, for reasons I will never understand, this pilot made a rookie mistake. Instead of climbing to clear a ridge, he turned and slammed into the hillside at high speed as we flew over. He was my first kill.

Co-Pilot of the Orion Mission to the Moon. He’s tough, funny, a natural pilot, and ultimately, someone to be reckoned with who tends to spar with the Commander.

  • Space is unforgiving and the penalty for error is swift. There's no time to grieve, as it's a battle of opposing emotional efforts to survive. So, if you see me hurtling away from Earth, that’s my journey. Life is all about the trade-offs.

  • Let's take a moment to reflect. There's no spacecraft to pick us up. The only one with a rescue-ready air-locked compartment will be ready in two weeks, and we have less than 10 minutes of Oxygen. So, our only choice is to orbit and enjoy the view as we wait for our breathable air to run out. It’s not so terrible. You might get a little hungry, but we’ve got a litre of water available via the straw in your helmet. Just sip and think of your family as you watch sunrise from the edge of space.

Mission Control

Mission Control is battle-proven leader and former astronaut located on Earth. He’s the crew’s trusted agent on the ground, to fight battles and argue in their stead. We are not clear whether he’s friend or foe.

  • You got a bunch of guys about to turn blue, we're breathing again.

  • We were always going to go to the Moon, oh yeah. I had a pamphlet that was put into a lot of Cheerios boxes when the first commercial space flights were going on. It was like, you will ride to work one day on a spacecraft. And you read that stuff and it does have an impact on you.

  • Commander, you’re not there to meditate. You’re there to solve a problem and you need to get things done. So, get on with it.
