DONGANRANPA: BOOTLEG HELL (Danganronpa Fangame)

Project Overview

Hello everyone! I’m currently working on a Danganronpa fangame called Donganranpa: Bootleg Hell, a project that will have an original cast of characters. It follow a group of run-of-the-mill American students who are “amateurs” as opposed to ultimates. Currently, I have a prologue completed and up on the YouTube channel (I call it a beta/proof of concept because it isn’t very polished yet). I also have the script of chapter 1 fully completed. Like the prologue, I plan for the full game to be playable, and I will upload walkthroughs on the YouTube channel, so you can experience it in whatever format you prefer.

In order to give this project the extra touch of life that it needs, voice actors are going to be necessary. That’s where you come in! Each of the 16 students (and the two mascots, Monokuma and Monoplushy) will need voice actors. Here a couple notes about that:

  • The series will only be partially voiced. Even during the class trials, only important lines will be voiced. I don’t want to give anyone a workload that is too heavy.

  • Due to the nature of Danganronpa, the series will contain violence and some strong language. This why I highly recommend you be 13+ to audition.

  • Also due to the nature of Danganronpa, the personalities of characters could make a complete 180. Make sure that you’re able to act out a range of emotion, including breakdowns.

  • No one will be cast before the deadline.

  • You can audition for multiple parts

  • Discord will be the main way I’ll be communicating with you.

  • If you would prefer, you can also submit your audition to me via email

  • Even though the deadline on here is March 7th, the actual deadline is March 15th. I'll be accepting auditions via email until the 15th.

Latest Updates

  • Replacement VA

Hello friends! Due to unforeseen circumstances, Alice's voice actor resigned and will have to be replaced. A link to the new casting call is below: https://www.castingcall.club/projects/donganranpa-bootleg-hell-danganronpa-fangame-alice-oshiro-recast
  • More direction has been added.

Hello everyone! I’ve decided to make a few changes to the descriptions of the voice lines. After getting feedback from a few people who’ve auditioned, I know that I was kinda leaving people who auditioned in the dark by not giving descriptions for some of the lines. I’ve also made changes to the character description of Rose Espinosa to better get across her smart, yet cynical type of personality. Since I’m not super picky about the way lines are delivered in the auditions, people who auditioned prior to these changes probably won’t be affected by this all that much (although anyone is welcome to submit an audition again). Also, if you’d like to have more reference material, you can find every character’s sprites on the Donganranpa tumblr.
Voice Actor
Voice Actor
Adrian Bancroft
closed
Unpaid
Role assigned to: TwoHatJack

Adrian Bancroft is the amateur mathematician. He’s a straightforward, logical, perfectly average guy. He enjoys using logic and problem solving, which is why he’s fond of math. He can sometimes be awkward when talking to people, and often has trouble expressing himself. While he does try to be polite to people, and he knows getting along would would help them escape, he sometimes can’t resist lecturing people or talking down to them.

Adrian should have a medium-ranged or medium-high everyman voice, fit for a protagonist. Note that he doesn’t really yell/raise his voice. His reaction lines should be slightly softer/more stoic and more condescending than usual reaction lines.

  • “Well... I don’t know why you would want to know about *my* life. It’s pretty boring. There’s nothing about me that’s out of the ordinary.” (Should be casual as if he's talking to someone one-on-one, but also have a blunt/stoic aspect to it)

  • “Remember, this is a class trial. We have to use logic, not superstition.” (Giving an explanation in an annoyed, condescending way)

  • REACTION LINES

    “No, that’s wrong.”

    “I agree with that.”

    “There’s only one possibility.”

“This is the truth of this case.”

Lottie Lukeson

Role assigned to: Zel

Lottie Lukeson is the amateur pharmacist, who began studying medicine as a way to help people. She’s a natural leader, able to unite people and inspire them in a constructive way. She’s very intelligent, and always has a kind, professional demeanor. Adrian gets along with her because she helps him socialize and he admires her intelligence, but he’s a bit concerned that she’s not considering her own well-being.

Lottie should have a clear and kind-sounding warm tone of voice. The pitch of her voice should be around the medium range.

  • “I understand you’re probably scared right now, but it’s very important we stay as calm as we possibly can. We have to make rational decisions if we want any hope of escaping.” (These are some her first words to Adrian, after he just found himself in the school. She wants to be delicate, but also wants to make sure they're on the same page.)

  • "Well, you don't have to worry so much. I really do have faith in our group." (Casual and lighthearted, but also heartfelt)

  • “Don’t you realize what you’re implying? Please... rethink this.” (Worried/scared)

Emerald Segal

Role assigned to: Livygoose

Emerald Segal is the amateur graffiti artist. She’s an impulsive, emotional person who never really thinks before speaking. She can get loud, angry, or freaked out really easily. Instead of using a logical process to make decisions, she usually just relies on her creativity and instincts. She’s an empathetic person who cares about others, so she does her best to help them. However, she’s not very smart, so “her best” isn’t usually a lot.

Her voice should reflect someone who is loud, bold, rough around the edges and often overconfident. Her voice needs to have a lot of heart behind it, as that’s where all her words come from. It should be a high or medium pitched voice. She also has very subtle Brooklyn accent that only comes out when she says certain words (such as "water").

  •  “Come on, dude. I’m not gonna let you quit now. Creativity is about collaboration!”  (Imagine you're in a group project and no one else is motivated to do any work, and even though you're getting kinda frustrated, you still want to try and be positive to motivate people. That's how you should deliver the line.)

  • “Uh, yeah, I know I'm probably not gonna be much help. I’m not good at being logical and stuff...” (Very awkward, she seems disappointed in herself)

  • “Hey, I may be dumb, but I'm not stupid!” (Angry)

Role assigned to: Arvela

Iris Lewis is the amateur director, but she would never consider herself an amateur. Although she doesn’t have much experience directing, she is confident that she’ll be a famous director one day. In order to catch her opportunity to break into the industry, she always has a camera on her. She never seems has an ounce of cynicism, apathy, laziness, or critical thinking.

She should have a peppy higher-pitched voice. It should sound strong and passionate but also natural and youthful.

  • “Mark my words. One day, my name is gonna be in lights!” (Confident, cheerful)

  • “Quit being so morbid! I don’t even wanna think about death right now. If I die now, I won’t even have a legacy!” (Worried)

  • “Do you seriously think that I’m so single minded that being a director is my only goal, and that I’d just… fall apart if I don’t make it? Because if you do, you’d probably be right.” (At first it sounds like she's making an accusation, but at the last sentence, it suddenly snaps back to being matter-of-fact and cheerful).

Steven Armstrong

Role assigned to: Silavent

Steven Armstrong is the amateur astronomer who has a passion for the stars and the mysteries that lie in space. He can be described as nerdy, yet very charismatic and clever. He gets along with people easily because of his calm, friendly, and reasonable qualities.

Steven should have a medium ranged voice. His voice can be described as calm, clear, and easy to listen to. Steven is the type of person who can get people to listen to him, and his voice should reflect that.

  • “Well… it’s actually astronomy, not astrology. It’s alright, people tend to mix them up all the time.” (Slightly hesitant to make the correction, doesn't want to be rude)

  • “I think what we should do is try to understand where she’s coming from. I’m sure all of us have similar goals, but we’re letting minute details cause disagreements.” (Giving a straightforward explanation)

  • ”If we look at unexplained phenomena like that from a scientific perspective, we could come up with some much more fascinating answers than just saying that aliens did it.” (Here he's going off a bit of a tangent, and his passion for the subject shows a lot. He still isn't being condescending, though).

Rose Espinosa

Role assigned to: ArtimmissVA

Rose Espinosa is the amateur writer. She’s very knowledgeable about writing and intelligent in general, but she mostly uses her intelligence to judge, insult, and criticize everyone (including herself). She gets annoyed with other people very easily and hates interacting with others, so can be very difficult to deal with.

Her voice usually expresses disgust, contempt, bitterness, snark, etc. However, even with those traits in mind, the two main things her voice should show are her wit and her cynicism. She always states her point clearly and rarely stumbles over her words. Her voice should be medium pitched.

  • “Ugh, stop. My eyes are rolling out of my skull.” (Annoyed and very dismissive)

  • “If you're putting so much effort into trying to unify us, to the point where you even hang out with a bitch like me… Then you must have some reason *why*, right?” (She is skeptical of why someone would try to befriend her, so she is suspicious and interrogative)

  • “Oooh. I see. You're here because you think the fact that I don't like you is detrimental to our survival. Well, guess what? It's not.” (Her attempt to "win" the interaction, cynical and witty as usual)

Niraj Kumar

Role assigned to: TylerL

Niraj (pronounced Knee-rudge) Kumar is the amatuer medic who appears to be in a constant state of misery. Nothing anyone says to him seems to cheer him up; He always manages to find a downside to everything. He can come off as uncooperative due to his pessimistic nature, but he really does want to help, he just doesn’t really know how. The one thing he does seem to find comfort in is his medical studies - specifically human anatomical studies.

He has a medium pitched voice, and his speech is extremely slow and sluggish. He has the low tone that’s expected of a person who’s always down in the dumps. He occasionally bursts into tears when something happens that makes him extra upset, and when he does his voice is higher & faster pitched to reflect someone who’s bawling.

  • “Oh... I hope you weren’t expecting much from me. I never do anything right…” (His usual brand of sadness and negativity).

  • “We’re never gonna find a way out of here. I’ll either be killed or forced to spend the rest of my life reading outdated medical textbooks.” (Sad and pessimistic; However, the most upsetting thing in this sentence to him is the last bit about the textbooks).

  • “Well, I’m glad... that you’re my friend now.” (One of his rare moments of happiness, but he still talks slowly)

Grete (pronounced greh-tuh) Merlow is the amateur gardener, and gardening seems to be the one thing she takes seriously. She can be described as a strange or unsettling person who often makes very morbid jokes. seems to enjoy messing with people. Her tongue might as well be surgically implanted in her cheek. Also, she is almost always smiling.

She should have either a high pitched voice or a medium-high voice. Her lines should have a blunt/witty delivery. You can also add a raspy quality to her voice if you feel like it would work well for her.

  • “Well, it was nice knowing y'all, but it looks like we’re all gonna die.” (Gleeful)

  • “The suspense is terrible, I hope it’ll last.” (You decide here).

  • “What? You really think I would come up with a one-liner that obvious? My one-liners are top of the crop, homegrown and harvested.” (She's slightly annoyed, but she's still not taking herself entirely serious.)

Role assigned to: geist

Louis (pronounced Loo-ie) Paul is the amateur musician. He’s very relaxed most of the time, as he’s a “go with the flow” type person. He probably thinks of himself as experienced and philosophical, but his philosophical statements are usually just kinda dumb. He’s usually very slow when it comes to solving problems, but he does occasionally give some useful insight. He has said that he spent some time in jail, but he never gives more details.

His voice should be deep or medium-deep. He should have a calm/slow speaking style, and possibly a bit of a raspy voice (Trent Lane from Daria would be a good example of the type of voice I’m going for).

  • “I don't mean to make light of this or anything, but I feel like someone’s gonna crack soon, man.” (Slightly concerned, but still very casual)

  • “Man, things have gotten really drab around here.” (Disappointing, complaining)

  • “You know, something tells me you guys really don't know how to have fun at parties.” (Casual, poking fun at someone)

Sophia Bailey

Role assigned to: YeeMudderVA

Sophia Bailey is is the amateur fangirl, who’s absolutely obsessed with Danganronpa (Yes, I know it’s kinda confusing, just go with it for now). Her life and soul revolves around Danganronpa, and she even has a body pillow of Komaeda that she carries around everywhere. She’s extremely happy and excited to be part of a killing game.

She should have a high-pitched or medium-high happy, excited, fun, nerdy fangirl voice. Her voice shouldn’t be too high pitched or exaggerated, though - she’s a character, not just a fangirl parody.

  • “I'm Sophia Bailey, the Ultimate Fangirl! Ok, I'm *technically* not picked by a super elite academy or anything… But I'm still an ultimate in my heart!” (Starts out cheerful, then gets more defensive.)

  • “No, dummy! That’s not how this works!” (Mad at someone for being a scrub and not knowing how Danganronpa works)

  • “You probably won’t like me if you don’t like Danganronpa. Danganronpa *is* me. If it’s not then… I don’t know what I am.” (Starts out in a matter-of-fact way, slowly starts getting more self-reflective)

Dennis Siddall

Role assigned to: sethfuzzy

Dennis is the amateur ???, who clearly doesn’t want to tell anyone his talent. He acts extremely aggressive towards everyone no matter what, and is always looking to pick a fight. He’s never calm, and never displays any degree of reasonability. He always wants to maintain a persona of being tough, and constantly accuses others of seeing him as weak. He doesn’t really pull of this persona, though. He’s sweating constantly, suffers from a speech impediment, and his insults/threats never resonate with anyone. He seems very nervous/insecure, and Adrian suspects this is why he’s hiding his talent.

The pitch of his voice should be medium-high. He has a speech impediment that causes him to stutter every view words. His voice is emotional and aggressive to the point where it could almost be described as whiny, but keep in mind he does occasionally have slower, more intimate lines.

  • “Y-You… You’re insulting me on p-purpose, aren't you?!” (Making an accusation)

  • “J-Just go away! I d-don't wanna talk to you anymore! Scram or I-I'm gonna fight you for real!” (Trying to sound threatening, but really just doesn't want to talk)

  • “Gh… F-Fine… I’ll come to your st-stupid meeting… B-But only if it means you st-stop bugging me.” (one of his slightly calmer moments)

May Metzger

Role assigned to: know-your-paradoxes

May is the poker-faced amatuer actress. Conversations with her usually end up having a lot of awkward silence. She’s really quiet and usually gives short answers to whatever questions people ask her. She has a tendency to fade in the background, and she seems okay with that. Essentially, she has the exact opposite personality you’d expect an actress to have. If you, by some miracle, managed to become her friend, she might express her distaste for all the phoniness around her. She might also do one of her (usually somewhat mocking) impressions, which show her to actually be a very talented actress.

May usually has a dry monotone voice that doesn’t show any emotion besides awkwardness and sometimes discomfort. She does have her witty moments, though, and in these she has a more serious tone of voice.

Due to May acting out impressions of characters often, her voice needs to have a lot of range (which is the reason she has extra audition lines). Make sure you’re able to play a variety of different characters and that you’re able to shift the pitch/tone of your voice.

  • “...My name’s May, if you wanted to know for some reason.” (Neutral, awkward)

  • “It’s alright if we don’t talk that much. We’re obviously not close at all, and that’s fine. It’s better than forcing small-talk.” (More matter-of-fact)

  • IMPRESSIONS

(Doing an impression of Nagito Komaeda) “Hope will always overcome despair! We must move forward, no matter what despair stands in our way!”

(Doing an impression of a stereotypical preppy girl) “OMG, I love it! Hands down, best party I’ve ever been to! And I *love* parties. I have *got* to follow you on instaphoto!”

David Ramirez

Role assigned to: MelancholyVA

David Ramirez is the amateur track runner, and his drive to be the best in the world is comparable to that of a shonen protagonist. He’s younger than the rest of the group, and it shows in his personality, as he can often be overconfident or emotional. He has a tendency to be in denial of the danger he’s in, and keeps insisting that absolutely nothing will go wrong.

His voice reflect his highly emotional and hyperactive character. His voice hasn’t deepened yet, so it should be very high pitched for a boy (high to the point where a female VA doing a boyish voice could probably play him quite well).

  • “We’re gonna get out of here, and there isn't gonna be another murder. So I don't have any reason to be scared! None at all!” (Trying to be cheerful, but clearly in deep denial)

  • “No! You have to believe in others! It's the only way we're gonna get out of here!” (Arguing with someone)

  • “H-Huh?! Something went wrong even when I played my “absolutely nothing is wrong” jazz music playlist?!” (Panicking)

Alice Oshiro

Role assigned to: fleurdechant

Alice is the amateur ballerina, although professional might be a better word considering how long she’s been practicing. She’s dedicated to good principles and being kind to others. She comes from a wealthy background, but she doesn’t believe in flaunting her wealth or that a high class lifestyle is better than any other type of lifestyle. In the context of a killing game, she tries to remain calm, although it’s clear that it’s taking a huge emotional toll on her to the point where she starts to get physically sick.

Alice has a clear, nice sounding everygirl type of voice, and it should be medium-high or medium pitched.

  • “I shouldn’t complain. This is the price we have to pay for our perfect, peaceful world. Everyone knows that.” (She tries to stay matter-of-fact here, but the line has an underlying sense of defeat)

  • “Ryan! Are you okay? Knock it off, Dennis!” (Pretty self-explanatory: showing concern for Ryan and lecturing Dennis)

  • “Even though I… urg… still feel kind of sick… I’m a lot less worried now. Thank you.” (Warmth, Kindness)

Marvin Moores is the amateur football player. Marvin, despite being physically strong, is pretty wimpy. He doesn’t have a malicious bone in his body, and is determined to help and be kind to everyone no matter what. He isn’t the sharpest tool in the shed, though. He can easily misjudge situations, and he often shows a cowardly and superstitious side.

Marvin should have a soft, kind, and non-threatening voice. His voice should be medium-ranged, but you can go deeper or higher if your voice can still maintain a soft/airy quality to it.

  • “We may not have a plan yet, but we still have hope, and that’s the most important thing!” (Cheerful)

  • “You need to be careful! You’re not minding the spirits!” (Trying to warn someone. worried)

  • “My friends are really important to me… and I'd do anything I can to protect them. ” (Sincere)

Ryan Lowell

Role assigned to: Ryrin

Ryan Lowell is the amateur gamer, and much prefers video games to people. He’s very bitter and unpleasant. Most of the time he’s playing video games, and will ignore anyone who tries to talk to him. If he’s not playing video games, he’s probably pissed off and yelling. The only person he will listen to is Alice, a person whom he already knew before the killing game.

Ryan should have a medium pitched voice although you can go lower or higher if you feel it would suit him. Ryan has two main speaking styles. In the first one, which is his normal speaking voice usually used when he’s playing video games, he has a distant, bitter, aloof, grumbly, deadpan sort of speaking style. In the second one, he’s yelling out of extreme anger.

  • “Every day I think you can’t get any dumber, and every day I’m proven wrong.” (He says this to Marvin, who is someone he doesn't like at all)

  • “You… YOU DON’T KNOW SHIT! You think that you’re better than me?! That you could outsmart me?! YOU’RE WRONG!” (Angry, loud)

  • “Whatever. I’m gonna finish this game by myself. In my room.” (Annoyed, wants to avoid talking)

Monokuma returns as the headmaster in this killing game. Now, he also takes the role of a sadistic boss to Monoplushy.

This probably goes without saying, but I’ll need someone to do a suitable Monokuma impression. Give it your best shot!

  • “That’s right! Coming to you straight from Japan, it’s…  Headmaster Monokuma!”

  • -“Puhuhu~ Looks like you brats are smarter than I thought.”

  • “There’s no despair more delicious than one that comes from shattering all hope. You’ll see… When all of your hope comes crashing down with bloodshed, you’ll see…”

Role assigned to: imfun_iswear

Monoplushy is the game’s mascot and an assistant to Monokuma. Her main job is doing accounting for the killing game. She is a literal plush doll who does not have the ability to move, instead using her robotic eye to control electronics. Lacking the ability to move and working under Monokuma makes her pretty miserable. She’s very afraid of Monokuma and what could happen if she messes up.

Most of the time, she should have a dry, deadpan voice. However, sometimes during her scenes with Monokuma, her voice should reflect how she’s nervous and desperately trying to keep her cool. There are also a lot of awkward moments, as she’s not really the most well-spoken. The pitch of her voice should be medium or medium-low.

  • "I’m here for one reason and one reason only: to keep the budget down. I’m basically an accountant. Sorta.” (Matter-of-fact, with slight awkwardness)

  • “I’m not depressed, I’m just stitched that way.” (snarky & deadpan)

  • “I-I’m sorry, boss! I’ll fix this right now, just give me some time!” (Trying to stay professional, but clearly very worried)
