Digimon Universe App Monsters Fan Dub

Project Overview

In 2016, the eighth season of Digimon, "App Monsters", was released. Due to the franchise undergoing a decline, the show never saw an English dub. This project is a fan dub that will give the season full voice acting. In order to accomplish such a feat, outside help will be necessary, and that's where you all come in. 

Voice actors are going to be needed to portray each character. The cast of characters in this show is rather large between leads, villains, and supporting characters, and most of them (with a few exceptions) will be cast using this site. 

Episode scripts will be translated mostly from the Crunchyroll subtitled version with a few changes here and there. For the most part, names will remain the same as they are in the Japanese version. The whole anime is available on Crunchyroll for free, and it is highly suggested that voice actors be at least somewhat familiar with the show. 

Due to the lengthy nature and large cast of this anime, the casting call for voice actors has been split up into smaller chunks episodes to make casting more manageable. As of right now, we are on the second set, containing characters from episodes six to twenty-six. The leads have been cast for the most part, and minor characters are being looked at in this set. 

Be warned that the audition lines will contain spoilers, especially for the remaining lead characters. When auditioning, make sure that there is no background noise or static. Be sure that the audition is a decent volume as well (not constant peak or too quiet to understand). Issues with either of these factors may result in an audition being looked over.

If you wish to audition for a character that doesn't fall within your gender expression, that's alright! All sorts of portrayals will be accepted for these auditions, so don't let the gender tag stop you from portraying a character.

  • Deadline Pushed Back (Second Set)

    The deadline has been pushed back by one week from 5/31/2020 to 6/7/2020. A new lead character has been added to the casting call (Offmon) to prevent future issues with casting during the final set of auditions, and since it took a few days for his information to be posted, the deadline has been extended. Torajiro "Astora" Asuka

Astora is the youngest member of the party, and he's extroverted and vivacious. He speaks his mind often and upholds a relaxed yet optimistic mask. Behind this, he struggles between what he wants for his future and what others expect from him. Astora has two distinct sides to him: his presence online and with his friends and the face he shows to his family. His personality to the greater world is bold and confident, being rather loud and talkative (first persona). The face Astora shows to his family is much softer and hesitates rather often, seemingly considering every word, coming off as rather shy (second persona). Generally, he is confident in himself, living in the moment to escape how afraid he is of the future and what it might hold. Astora's partner is Musimon.

  • (confident and dramatic; first persona) It’s time for Astora’s Groovy? Not Groovy? So Groovy! Let’s find out if today’s subject is groovy or not groovy! Ta-da! It’s a habanero curry bun, new at convenience stores across the country! Check out that addictive spice! I, Astora, will judge this new fad everyone’s been talking about!

  • (soft and hesitant; second persona) I’ve gotta go. It’s time for tea ceremony practice. It’s been fun though. Here. …”Ride the groove?” ...You can’t spend your whole life riding the groove.

  • (reminiscent and apologetic; blend of two personas) At first, I felt too embarrassed to broadcast from the mansion. Remember how I slipped out, heart pounding, like I was about to do something awful? ...It’s not about anyone else. It’s about whether I’m riding my own groove or not, right? ...I’m sorry. I forgot something important. Will you still be my buddy Appmon?

Musimon is partnered with Astora. He is an Appmon based around music. He is naturally carefree and laidback, meshing well with the open personality of his partner. Musimon is confident naturally and tends to “ride the groove”, simply going with the flow and enjoying life wherever it takes him. He is incredibly similar to Astora, and the two often joke around together and rarely argue due to their alike tastes. Musimon very rarely lets life get him down, only becoming stressed when he struggles to hear passion or happiness behind the voices of others. He claims to follow the playlist of his life, allowing mere chance to forge his path towards the future. 

Range: Mid-High to High

  • (enthusiastic) That wasn’t a coincidence! When we’re together, things always get intense! In the groove or out of it, how you live is up to you! Listen to your heart, and then you can do it too!

  • (sad yet hopeful) I can’t hear the music of your heart anymore! ...Let me hear it! The music of your heart! Follow the groove! Do it! Let’s dance to the groove of the music in your heart!

  • (cheerful) Wherever there’s music playing, that’s where you’ll find me! No Musimon, no life! The playlist of my life is synced up with Astora’s!

Offmon is Yujin’s partner Appmon, and his abilities are centered around offline games. He is incredibly shy and timid, and it takes him quite a bit of time to trust anyone aside from Yujin at first. He is easily overwhelmed and struggles to control himself at times, prompting him to hide himself from the world even more. Offmon is kind behind his anxious first impression, and he hates fighting or the idea of hurting others. He grows incredibly apologetic when he believes himself to have made a mistake. He avoids most contact with others where possible since it often scares him.

Note: Offmon's voice actor may or may not play his evolutions as well. Such a decision will be made after casting.

  • (shyly) When they get Apprealized with an App Drive Duo, any Appmon’s power levels will get a lot higher. It’s because of the self-injection thing. The App Driver’s power gets injected into the Appmon.

  • (apologetic) I’m sorry, Yujin. If I stay with you, I’ll just hurt you again. I’ll miss you… Yujin… Goodbye.

  • (fearful) But if I tell you, you’ll all hate me… What should I do? I’m the only one who can save Yujin and everyone, but if I do that… I might…

Hajime Katsura

Hajime is Rei’s younger brother and a technological prodigy. He’s sweet and empathetic, acting as the positivity to his brother’s dark pessimism. He is kind and open, allowing him to easily win the trust of allies. However, he can be easily manipulated due to his youth, and he is incredibly reliant on his brother due to being raised by Rei for a while. Hajime was taken by Leviathan two years before the series, but he remained hopeful despite this, leaving behind his creation to bring salvation to the main group.

  • (somber) Rei… When’s Mama coming back? ...I-I’m not sad, okay? Because I have you, Rei.  

  • (quietly happy) When I was transformed, my consciousness was put to sleep, and I stopped receiving external information entirely. But the unique memory I shared with my big brother was the trigger to wake me up.

  • (heavily) He wanted me to complete an app. A forced startup application. A boot program that would immediately start up anything, no matter how encrypted the system or damaged the program.

Sateramon is an agent of Leviathan placed in charge of eliminating the App Drivers following the fall of Mienumon. He is known for being incredibly confident and condescending, always believing himself to be able to find success regardless of the circumstances. He hates to be proven wrong and can grow more openly violent when provoked. 

Range: Mid-Low to Middle

  • (conversational yet condescending) I do what my clients request of me. My client this time is Leviathan. His request was to delete you App Drivers and your buddy Appmon. You fools set foot in the deep web. You’ve crossed a line, and accepting that is something Leviathan will not do.

  • (with dark curiosity) A new App Drive, Offmon, and a new App Driver, eh? Tsk, tsk, tsk… Taking my eyes off this is something I cannot afford to do.

  • (frustrated) Wh-What? My target… is something… I cannot see? What just happened? I can’t reach Tubumon either. Keeping distance is something I can no longer do.

Perorimon is a gluttonous and cocky monster known for his food reviews. He has a large head and believes that his perspective is always right, rarely listening to any other parties during an argument. Perorimon is also rather lazy, rarely going out of his way to do things that do not concern him.

  • (considerate yet happy) That milky white soup with its mellow flavor. Those straight noodles that gave way gracefully beneath my teeth. It was as if the goddess of pork was smiling down on me.

  • (blunt and rude) Excuse me, but this is not at all like the takoyaki I ordered. Half of them are burnt on the outside, and the other half are more like half-cooked octopus dumplings! Eating these would warp my stomach and fill me with regret! It’s horrible!

  • (excitedly) Food is a microverse you taste with your soul! I’ve always wanted to try these.

While under the influence of the L-Virus, he is much more loose and rude, but this quickly gives way to the sweet, apologetic face beneath.

  • (disgruntled) I retrieve trashed data! I delete garbage data! Time to empty out the trash!

  • (dreamily) I feel so refreshed! Like a dumping ground that’s been cleaned and polished after the collectors came through… I’ve really been acting like garbage, haven’t I? I’m sorry!

  • (cheerful) If you head out with us, you might be able to meet the other Seven Code Appmon!

Recomon is a rather robotic figure, often parroting the phrases around him to reflect his status as a recording Appmon. He only breaks through this whenever he grows particularly passionate about a subject. Music is something that he enjoys, and it brings out the enthusiastic side of him easily.

  • (loud and joyful) Movies are most fun when they don’t comply with expectations!

  • (rambling) I feel so enlivened. Like running into a movie theater in a downpour, having your heart soothed by your favorite movie, and when you come out, the rain has cleared, and there’s a big rainbow in the sky! That’s how I feel!

  • (cocky and hostile) All videos respond to Dogamon’s will!

Tutomon is a commentator as well as an overall knowledgeable figure. He goes out of his way to learn more where he can, but this means that he knows quite a bit about haunting and unsettling topics as well. Despite this, he is cheerful and talkative, making it all the more frightening when he discusses something somber.

  • (optimistic and cheerful) But wait! There’s more! They’re behind the automatic braking systems in cars. They can beat humans at shogi or chess. Some are even advanced enough to write songs or novels by themselves!

  • (solemn and dark) Once Leviathan became a Super AI, he pried his way free from his man-made supervision system and escaped into the sea of the net. From there, he started using the L-Virus to sow chaos in human society.

  • (announcing grandly) Now, everybody, we’re about to start the second half!

Sakusimon is another of Leviathan’s high-ranking soldiers alongside Mienumon. He is known for his devious strategies, going to any means necessary in order to achieve victory. He is openly sadistic, and while he is patient, he can become frighteningly unhinged when his strategies fail him. 

Range: Middle to Mid-High

  • (overly confident) Sowing strategies, staying seven steps ahead, Sakusimon I am.

  • (mocking) I see… You App Drivers are just as the rumors said… Though at this rate, you’ll never see your Appmon again either way.

  • (condescending yet composed) But Sakusimon without strategy would not be Sakusimon. I planned no strategy to defeat you today, so I’ll take my leave. See you soon.

  • (inquisitive) Um, are you related to the new member of Appliyama 470, Eri Karan?

  • (matter-of-fact) I’ll give you info on Rei if you give me some juicy gossip about you!

  • (gossipy) Rei has been famous in certain Appmon circles for a while as a very dangerous human who hacks data. He came to the surface web from time to time, looking for something.

Cookmon is an Appmon known for running a cabana at the Surface Web near the sea of the net. He is a casual and friendly creature who watches the shore while working his business, allowing him to catch on to suspicious activity taking place on the internet. He is rather close with Gatchmon.

  • (announcing) Data clams! Data corn! Freshly grilled!

  • (fondly) You never change, do you? Here you are: strawberry milk shaved ice, hold the milk.

  • (pondering) Now that you mention it… Apparently a human male has been seen on the Reveiwmon island.

  • (enraged) Christmas, birthdays, summer vacation… I always tell them the most exciting days, but those foolish humans never show me any appreciation! It’s time to teach them the great power and terror that the calendar holds!

  • (confidence faltering) Doing that would restore the festivities to humanity! But if I don’t do it, the blow to the Calendamon name…

Tellermon is a known fortune teller with incredibly accurate fortunes. She is confident in her skills and believes that she can’t be incorrect, leading to her behavior growing rather hostile around those who don’t believe in her abilities. Tellermon is also the fourth of the Seven Code Appmon. 

Range: Mid-Low to Middle

  • (matter-of-fact) I choose the best response from massive amounts of data. That’s what AI does best.

  • (confident and snooty) Your unlucky action is running. Your unlucky sweet is bananas. Your unlucky item is bombs.

  • (conversational) I never dreamed that I would be a Seven Code Appmon. It seems a divinator truly cannot see her future.

Timemon is a Super Appmon with dominion over time. He was called upon by Deneimon to share the truth about the birth of Minerva and Leviathan when the time was right, prompting him to reveal the truth to the App Drivers. He is incredibly serious about his job, telling the tale sternly.

  • (solemn) You know, do you not? If the evil AI Leviathan exercises his power further, the world will fall into chaos. The one who created Leviathan, Haru Shinkai… It was your grandfather, Deneimon.

  • (with growing darkness) Minerva gradually became smarter. Everything seemed to be going as planned… But then, the time arrived. The year 2006. 

  • (explanatory) Dantemon will open the door that leads beyond the surface web into the deep web. Leviathan is hiding somewhere in there. But the deep web is a terrifying place.

Copipemon is a copy and paste Appmon who worked for Leviathan at Mienumon’s orders. He is known for being rather obnoxious with his constant copy and paste quirk where speech is concerned. He is a troublemaker, but he doesn’t mean to cause many problems and is rather kind beneath that.

  • (teasing) I’m the original! Me!

Virusmon is a common Appmon that works for Leviathan. There are many copies of him, and all are intent on spreading the L-Virus and causing chaos as their commander instructs. He isn’t the best at doing such, leading to a few failures on his part despite his attempts to interfere with the App Drivers.

Dreammon is an Appmon with the power to control the dreams of others. He is somewhat manipulative and aloof, willing to use any means necessary to reach his goals no matter how it hurts those around him. He is unapologetic in his methods and incredibly stubborn, rarely admitting defeat to others. 

Range: Middle

  • (relaxed) Wouldn’t it be better for you if your father never returned? Then you wouldn’t have to go off for training. You wouldn’t have to inherit your family’s school either.

  • (intense) Choose between them. Your father or Musimon? Successor or influencer? Which will you choose?
