The Dark Future | Destiny 2 Lore Reading
Project Overview
Hello, and welcome to the audition page for The Dark Future | Destiny 2 Lore Reading! My name is Ryder Wickett, I'm an aspiring voice actor and theatre performance/digital media production double major at the University of Northern Iowa. I'm looking forward to working with people who are passionate and excited about the work they do, especially when it comes to voiceover. Project Info
Now, what exactly is this project? For those unaware of the source material this is based on, Destiny 2 is a looter shooter MMO developed by Bungie released in 2017. The game itself has deep and nuanced lore, a good chunk of which is conveyed through little books that you can earn through playing, called lore books. These lore books contain random stories from across the Destiny universe and usually only take a few minutes or so to read. For this project, I wanted to bring one of these lore books to life by turning it from simple words on a screen to something with full fledged voice acting, narration, sound effects, music, etc. That's where this audition comes in! The source material is based on "The Dark Future" lore book, which if you'd like to read ahead of the audition, can be accessed here. While a good chunk of this lore book is narration (which will be read by myself) I'm looking for voice actors to breath life into and provide the nuanced performances for the characters of the Destiny universe. If all goes well, this project may span over multiple lore books, meaning that some of these roles may potentially be reoccurring (especially some of the cameo roles with only one line). However, I'm planning to only start with this one to test the waters and see how this project pans out. If a character voiced here does end up appearing in another lore book, don't feel like you are obligated to come back to voice the character again if you wouldn't like to or unable, this project isn't something you have to have complete dedication to. That being said, I would love to have anyone cast here back if they would like to! Finally, this project is simply a passion project that is being made for fun with no monetary payment attached. After it's completion it will be uploaded on my channel which is linked here.
Requirements
Below are a list of requirements for this project. If you have any questions about anything, feel free to reach out!
- Must be 16 years or older to audition
- Please ensure you have good microphone quality (no background noise, no popping, no echo, etc.)
- Maximum of 3 takes or less per line (AABBCC format)
- Do not slate
- Do not edit audition audio in any way outside of audio cleanup if you so wish
- Be able to respond to messages reliably via Discord
- You may audition for multiple characters
- Try and get as close to the original voice actor's performance as possible
And the most important rules...
- Be respectful of others and open to learning and taking direction
- Be willing to give the audition your all and don't be afraid to show emotion
- Last but not least, have fun!
I know that a lot of the times projects like this can maybe seem intimidating and a bit scary, but at the end of the day, this project is just for fun! Be willing to take risks and realize that it isn't as serious as it oftentimes might feel; it's better to take the shot, miss, and learn then to not take the shot at all. Elisabeth “Elsie” Bray, also known as the Exo Stranger, is the protagonist and narrator within this story. As a time traveling Exo and sister to Guardian Ana Bray, she has been to countless timelines and seen the darkness corrupt not only the Sol System in each one, but she’s had to witness her sister’s corruption countless times as well. This lore book tells the story of the most recent timeline Elisabeth has been to prior to our own, and how she ended up in the current Destiny 2 timeline.
Elisabeth is a quiet individual, if only for the fact that she has too many secrets to tell. She isn’t the type to come charging in boisterously to save the day, instead opting to watch from the sidelines until the time is right. Due to her experiences with the darkness and her usage of its powers for good through the power of Stasis, Elisabeth has a deep understanding of its effects on herself and others. This has led to her having a very reliable moral compass, despite her deterring mysteriousness. Being able to capture Elisabeth’s mysterious nature yet deterministic resolve is essential to this role.

Anastasia “Ana” Bray is a Hunter Guardian and the deuteragonist within this story. After losing her connection to the light prior to the story, she intends to seek out and learn the powers of Stasis from her sister, Elisabeth Bray. Elisabeth is very adamant about not letting this happen, as she’s seen what this dark power has done to her sister in previous timelines. However, Ana being the guardian that she is, intends to go against her nature and learn this dark power in order to defend her and her family… even if it comes from the worst of detractors
.
Ana is very much the opposite of her sister. While Elisabeth is very cold and mysterious, Ana presents a very warm presence as a protector of all people. She believes in the best of humanity, and wants to do all she can to protect it. This sentiment even rang true before Ana’s resurrection as a Guardian, as she used her position at Braytech to help teach the powerful AI Warmind Rasputin about humanity, eventually leading to it becoming a protector of the Sol System far into the future, same as Ana. She knows what’s right and is always willing to fight for it, no matter the cost, which makes her moral heel turn within this story all the more jarring. Being able to capture her warm demeanor with the ever creeping hint of darkness as the story continues is essential to this role.

Commander Zavala is a Titan Guardian and the leader of the Last City’s Vanguard, as well as a supporting character within this story. In this timeline, the once proud and determined Zavala has become a bitter and angry old man after losing his fellow Vanguard members to the forces of darkness. With no hope left, he remains in the rubble of the last city, unable to fight due to his missing leg and lack of light. However, this all changes with the arrival of Elisabeth and Ana Bray who come bearing a plan to capture the Traveler and force it to restore the light.
Zavala is the definition of a quintessential Guardian; doing something as big as risking his life to save the citizens of the last city to something as small as taking time out of his day to teach new recruits how to knit damaged armor. While he may be haunted by aspects of his past, he always keeps his eyes forward to the future, however, this alternate timeline Zavala is far from that man. He still retains his determined demeanor but with a much more rightfully cynical view of the world after the deaths of his closest friends and allies. Being able to capture his deterministic nature alongside his newfound cyclical gruffness is essential to this role.

Queen Mara Sov is the queen of the Awoken people and a supporting character within this story. Within this timeline, Mara has been preparing forces within the halls of the massive space vessel, the Leviathan, ever since the collapse of humanity and the takeover of the darkness. Gathering both enemies and allies alike, Mara intends to put a stop to the hostile takeover of the forces of darkness. With the unexpected arrival of Elisabeth, Ana, and Zavala, the perfect opportunity to do just that may finally be within reach.
Mara Sov is a cold and calculated individual. She is always pathing out the best steps in her head to get exactly what she wants. While her motives may come off as hard to discern and overly risky at times, she is always willing to go to great lengths for the benefit of the Awoken people, who she is very loyal to. She can be ruthless in her methods at times, willing to step into territories others would not dare tread in and take great risks if she knows they will pay off in the end. Because of this, it’s very hard to earn the Queen’s trust. However, if you do, it’s best you keep it as she’s a valuable ally to have at your side. Being able to capture her cold, calculated demeanor along with the charisma of a born leader is essential for this role.

Eris Morn is a former guardian and specialist of the Hive race, as well as an antagonist within this story. Within this timeline, Eris’ constant study of the darkness utilized by the Hive race led to her being easily corrupted prior to the beginning of the story. Now, she has ascended as a transcendent Hive God alongside the wicked Hive God Savathûn, the Witch Queen. She resides on the Scarlett Keep upon the Moon, waiting for the last remnants of humanity to dare to come and find her…
Eris Morn is a very studious and intelligent individual. Having lost her light within the darkest depths of the Hive Hellmouth on the Moon, she managed to escape by using the magic of her enemies. Now, she walks the line between light and darkness, and in this alternate timeline, darkness won. Ever since her corruption, she very much maintains her straightforward and ruthless intellectual flair, but with a much more jagged edge of diabolical evil within her words. Being able to capture her introverted intellect alongside her newfound profoundly evil demeanor is essential to this role.

Cayde-6 is a Hunter Guardian and the Hunter Vanguard Leader, as well as being a cameo role within this story. Cayde only appears at the end of the story for a single line after Elisabeth is brought to the current Destiny 2 timeline. Prior to this, in the dark future timeline, it’s implied that Cayde is dead, just like his fellow Vanguard member Ikora Rey. Cayde’s death weighs heavily on Zavala, and is part of the reason he is so cynical within the story.
Cayde is the heart and soul of the Vanguard’s leaders fireteam. As the leader of the Hunter class of Guardians, he represents all that Hunters are: flashy, quick-witted, and perhaps a little too loot obsessed. However, without him the Vanguard never quite feels complete. Cayde’s comedic relief is a much needed reprieve from the serious scenarios the Vanguard deals with on a daily basis. Despite his jokey nature, when the going gets tough, you can guarantee Cayde will be right there alongside you, fighting till the bitter end. Being able to balance Cayde’s comedic relief alongside his deep care of his fellow Guardians is essential for this role.

Ikora Rey is a Warlock Guardian and the Warlock Vanguard Leader, as well as being a cameo role within this story. Ikora only appears at the end of the story for a single line after Elisabeth is brought to the current Destiny 2 timeline. Prior to this, in the dark future timeline, Zavala states that Ikora is dead, crushed under the rubble of the Last City by the Witch Queen, Savathûn. Ikora’s death weighs heavily on Zavala, and is part of the reason he is so cynical within the story.
Ikora is the brains of the Vanguard leader’s fireteam. Without her knowledge and resources, the Vanguard wouldn’t have half the knowledge it does now. Ikora helms these resources with an inspiring confidence, always seeming like she knows the next step ahead. In reality, her being so far ahead of the pack in taking steps into the unknown often leads to her being thrown into rather difficult and oftentimes scary positions. However, with all the help she has alongside her, she is able to overcome these obstacles to pave a way for the Guardians of the future. Being able to balance Ikora’s scholarly confidence alongside her warm and inviting demeanor is essential to this role.
