Hello, everyone! This casting call is for Death Note The Musical. The musical's lyrics and instrumentals were originally for an english release that we never got. This project is for those who wish to help me revive this musical in it's original format.
We're casting for many voice actors and singers (usually both) and visual artists to be used throughout the musical. If you're not cast for a main role you will still be considered for a smaller role and the chorus, if you do not wish to be either of those please say so in your audition.
All roles are in the English language. Voice actors must be comfortable using the language.
This project is just for fun so you will not be paid. If you do not wish to work without payment that's totally cool and I hope you are successful in your future endeavors.
Everyone who works on this project will be credited no matter how small a role they play!

MUSICAL OVERVIEW
Death Note The Musical is a musical adaptation of the classic anime and manga "Death Note." The story follows Light Yagami as he obtains a notebook that can kill any person. He uses this notebook to kill off criminals in the name of justice and the world is split between those who praise "Kira," the name they have given him, and those who think he is nothing but a killer and wish to stop him. This story is largely a battle of wits between Light, a genius honor student, and L, a genius detective with questionable morals.
DEADLINES AND AUDITIONS
The deadline for auditions is December 20th, 2020. There are currently no plans to extend this deadline, as the full script is ready to release to voice actors. We'll notify voice actors who have been cast in roles by December 21st and begin discussing stuff such as deadlines individually depending on how big their role is.
When auditioning if a character has a song readily accessed I have provided links to them with the specific time frame. Some are not available in English so I will provide them after those characters are cast because I don't want my singing publicly available because I'm not very good, you can sing whatever best fits your range in that case.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Expect to be a part of a friendly community of fellow voice actors, vocalists, and artists. I want this to be a fun experience for everyone of all ranges of experience.
We will communicate primarily through Discord. If you are unfamiliar with Discord, you can still audition, however, we strongly, strongly recommend participation through Discord so that you can collaborate with your fellow voice actors.

WHO AM I?
I am known as Milk online by most of my friends, I make gaming youtube videos as a hobby while I study in college.
Light is characterized as hardworking, talented, and a natural genius. Highly perceptive and good with problem solving, Light was a skilled planner and good at mapping out scenarios. Furthermore, Light was very popular among peers and adored by his family members. However, his high intelligence and constant praise from adults laid the foundation for an intense level of hubris which quickly took effect once he obtained the notebook. His voice should sound fairly young as he around 18 years old and beginning college. The original voice actors from the sub and dubbed anime as well as the actor who played him in the musical demos are great examples of the type of voice he should have. You will be require to sing and speak a lot for this role.

L is very intelligent, though his disheveled and languid appearance masks his great powers of deduction and many question his abilities upon viewing him. L tends to second-guess everything he is presented with, and is extremely meticulous and analytical. He is good at deceiving his opponents, and is willing to take drastic measures to solve a case. This role consists of a lot of singing and speaking. He should have a younger voice, but he speaks in mostly monotone or sarcasm.

Ryuk is different from most Shinigami in that he does not want to simply pass time away in the Shinigami Realm but find something to relieve his boredom, and he is unaffected by the mocking he receives from other Shinigami for it. Ryuk should have a deep and raspy voice. You will need to speak and sing a lot for this role.

While Ryuk takes amusement in everything in the Human World, Rem is almost the exact opposite, viewing most humans with contempt. Also, while Ryuk is ambivalent to Light's success or failure, Rem actively assists Misa. This makes her equally as guilty as Ryuk of not displaying 'proper' traits for a Shinigami to have. She is even willing to sacrifice her life to defend Misa, as evidenced by her threat to kill Light should Misa die before her time. For Misa's sake, however, she still assists Light in his schemes. Her voice should be elegant. This role has a lot of singing and voice lines.

Misa Amane is an up-and-coming idol and supporter of Kira who eventually becomes the Second Kira. After gaining a Death Note, she seeks out Kira in order to thank him for killing the man who murdered her family and to offer him her help. Having made the trade for the Shinigami Eyes, Misa learns that the identity of Kira is Light Yagami. After a meeting with Light, she decides to dedicate her life to helping Light however she can, and becomes determined to use her eyes to uncover L's real name. She sings quite a lot and has many voice lines. Her voice should be cheery and upbeat.

Soichiro is a kind man with a strong sense of justice. He cares greatly for his family and the members of the Japanese Task Force. He is a serious and responsible man that gains the respect of many.

Ukita proves to be a strong character with great determination and bravery, as he was one of the few people who remained a member of the Kira Investigation Team. He should sounds serious and determined.

In line with Sayu's age and grade in school she demonstrates age-appropriate behavior, such as watching shows starring Hideki Ryuga and asking Light for help with math homework. She seems to look up to Light, as she recognizes his intelligence and believes that he will become a quality detective. She is fairly young, on the earlier end of her teen years. She should sound innocent.
