Dead Air
Project Overview
During a graveyard radio shift, an exhausted audio engineer is trapped in a real-time 60-minute countdown when a masked voice mutes his transmitter and kidnaps his asthmatic 13-year-old sister—forcing him to confess to a past corporate cover-up on live air before her oxygen runs out.
Role Type: Lead / Protagonist
Vocal Range: Tenor / Baritone
Tone & Voice Description: Natural close-mic intimacy. Elliot sounds like an experienced late-night radio host or podcaster—articulate, grounded, and quiet. As the real-time clock runs down, his controlled broadcast persona fractures into raw, breathless, and explosive panic before settling into grim determination.

(Quiet, intimate, radio host tone — controlled and effortless): "You're listening to the graveyard shift on 104.9 FM. Where the city sleeps, the studio lights buzz, and the dead air stays quiet. My name is Elliot. And if you’re tuning in tonight... you’re probably looking for something to keep the dark out."
(Explosive panic, gripping his head after discovering the transmitter lock): "Fuck! Fuck! FUCK! GAH—! What the fuck?! Think, think, think... trip the local relay? No, the Voice locked the IP trunk... Jesus Christ, Chloe... Chloe, I'm right here! I'm here!"
(Desperate, emotional confession into the broadcast mic over wailing sirens): "Three years ago, a warehouse fire broke out on the West Side. A man lost his life because emergency services were delayed. Station management paid me ten thousand dollars to alter the official dispatch log... and I took the money. I scrubbed six seconds of tape to hide their negligence. Right now, on this live frequency, I am playing the unedited, raw recording for the very first time."
Role Type: Lead / Co-Protagonist
Vocal Range: Youthful / Early-Teen Female Voice
Tone & Voice Description: Expressive, sharp, and vocal. Chloe is an 8th grader who refuses to be spoken down to. She is terrified, furious, and claustrophobic. Crucial Audio Requirement: Must be comfortable performing realistic, escalating asthmatic wheezing, gasping, and breathless vocal strain without sounding comedic or over-acted.
Character Archetype: The Vulnerable Rebel in high physical jeopardy.

(Terrified, shouting in a concrete room over a crackling phone line): "Hello?! Is somebody there?! Open this door! Let me out! Elliot?! Is that you?! Two guys grabbed me right after my afternoon bus stop—they threw me in a van! I'm in some dark basement with concrete walls! The door is solid metal, Elliot!"
(Angry, demanding answers, struggling against early asthma onset): "Don't you dare talk to me like I'm a kid—tell me what's going on! Why did somebody take me?! What did you do?! If you're an engineer, Elliot, then fix this! FIX THIS!"
(Critical respiratory distress, voice reduced to a frail, gasping whisper after dropping her phone): (Labored, raspy breathing) "...Elliot...? It's... it's so dark... I can't... I dropped the phone... my hands are shaking... I can't breathe, Elliot..."
Role Type: Lead / Antagonist
Vocal Range: Mid-Range, Deep Baritone, or Low Contralto (Will have slight line-filter processing)
Tone & Voice Description: Terrifyingly calm, mathematical, and unshakeable. "The Voice" speaks with clinical precision and absolute authority. Never shouts, stammers, or loses composure. Delivers minute-by-minute time announcements with the cold cadence of a ticking clock.
Character Archetype: The Unstoppable Avenger / Mastermind.

(Chilling, measured, delivered as a minute-marker over studio monitors): "Fifty-nine minutes remaining, Elliot. Don't touch the fader board. If you attempt to trip the emergency override or leave this booth, the air-intake valves in Room Four will seal permanently."
(Clinical detachment during psychological tape drops): "Forty-one minutes remaining. Her distress is a direct result of your silence, Elliot. Every second the city hears dead air on 104.9 FM, the oxygen percentage drops. I am simply reminding you what you are sacrificing for a corporate paycheck you spent three years ago."
(The final resolution at the climax): "Zero minutes remaining. The dead air is over, Elliot. Open the master drive... or listen to your sister take her very last breath live over channel four."
Role Type: Supporting / Secondary Antagonist
Vocal Range: Authoritative Baritone
Tone & Voice Description: Corporate, slick, aggressive, and impatient. Marcus is an executive accustomed to total control. His voice carries polished authority until his career and freedom are threatened, at which point he devolves into hostile self-preservation.
Character Archetype: The Corrupt Corporate Enforcer.

(Busting into the control room, furious and holding a flashing tablet): "Are you out of your mind?! 104.9 has been dead quiet for twenty minutes! The automation system is screaming, corporate sponsors are calling my personal cell—why is the master output feed muted?!"
(Desperate, threatening whisper up against the studio glass): "If you put that scrubbed tape on the airwaves, this station goes under! You and I both go to federal prison! You signed an NDA, kid! You took the money! You cut that line right now or I swear to God I'll terminate you on the spot!"
Role Type: Minor / Archival Voice-Over
Vocal Range: Neutral, clear, procedural emergency dispatcher.
Tone & Voice Description: Crisp, professional, and rapid-fire. Processed through phone/radio filters to sound like an authentic 911 audio archive recording.
