Project Overview
PLOT SUMMARY::
You are a sorcerer raised in isolation but still with the hopes of being able to heal the world with your magical prowess. In a nearby village, you become their healer, allowing yourself the chance to continue your skills in peace. But things are turned upside down when an envoy of the Vernia Glades seeks your help, asking you to help cure the guard captain of a mysterious illness that befell them. It's up to you to use your abilities to find a way to heal her and make the kingdom's royal guard whole again! But how can you help out the kingdom when you're stuck with a major issue: magic is actually outlawed throughout the Vernia Glades!
What will happen to you? What choices will you make? What is the cause of this mysterious illness plaguing the Head of the Knight’s Guard?

MORE ABOUT THE PROJECT::
Days and Knights is a freeware dating sim being made within the month of March for the NaNoReNo 2020 Game Jam. Our current goal is to complete at least the BETA of the prologue and one of the routes by NaNoReNo's deadline. However, we're looking to get the game complete as a free-to-play game to share with everyone! We're excited to be able to work with you all to bring this visual novel to life, with all sorts of things like romance, drama, action, and more!
The main character is written from a second person perspective, with you being the central focus character throughout the story. The game will consist of four routes you can go through, each with a different romance option that have their own good endings and bad endings. With heavy choices that influence the endings, will you find your knight in shining armor, or is this fairy tale not meant to be?

- Be punctual and be professional as you can be! If you ever have any questions, don't hesitate to ask! We're more than happy to answer them for you!
- Have as clear of microphone quality as you can as you audition and go for this project. Because the less editing on our end, the more delightful that would be!
- Don't hesitate to do multiple tones and takes on a specific audition! If needed, we can provide you an e-mail if you have files too big or too many for CCC. Don't hesitate to ask us!
- With the amount of work needed for directing and reading processes, Discord is a must have! Let us know what your Discord is, or be ready to provide it to us if you are cast for the project!

It'd really help us out alot during the casting process, and it'd give me a chance to see how we can help you improve on the roles a bit more too~

CAPTAIN ADALINE WENDELL -- Age 26, Female. A young knight with a bright spirit and exuberant personality, she has served the Vernia Glades loyally for years before eventually taking the help of the guard captain. She always tries to see the good in the people around her, choosing to inspire and motivate the others around her with her upbeat energy and optimism. Despite her kindness to others, however, she refuses to let people walk all over her, become rather headstrong and pig-headed when people try to tell her to do something different than what she wants to do. But nevertheless, she's a leader to the fullest capacity. She also likes to train and fight alot, so it's not usual for her to brag about her win-streak against the other guardsmen.
Vocal Range: Higher to Medium Pitched
Vocal Personality: Energetic and upbeat. Not the most lady-like in terms of speech patterns, and sometimes acts too much like 'one of the boys' so she can keep up with them all. She's very kind and very compassionate in how she speaks, but heaven forbid you make her angry...
Vocal Notes: Adaline's among one of the only ones who knows of the MC's magical powers. She's understanding and thoughtful, but tensions and awkwardness does arise when she brings it up. Especially when she has a background in mage hunting specifically. But despite this, she tries to repent for her past, being very open and honest with you and accepting you instantly and with eagerness.
[energetic and excited]
“You can just call me Adaline. Captain is for the others, so they can take me seriously. I’m glad you were able to make it! For a sec, I thought I was gonna have to travel all the way to Costellona just to find someone with as good of a reputation as you! But now that I mention it… Nits! How long would it be for us to travel to Costellona? We could have a guard’s day trip there!”
[angered and frustrated]
“I can handle myself, Harland! Sick or not, if the kingdom needs me, the kingdom needs me! I should be out there leading you all." [with a growl] "You know damn well that I put my heart and soul into watching over this guard. You guys are my family, so why can’t you understand that I’d do anything for you guys?”
[saddened and thoughtful]
"When I joined the guard, I always liked to tell myself that I was doing it for the great good. No matter what happened, it was for the safety of the kingdom. But even if I try to justify it, I still feel the guilt of it all. I shouldn't have left her back then, but I did... I had to. For the safety of the kingdom, I walked away... Does that make me a bad person...?"
LIEUTENANT HARLAND CARVER -- Age 29, Male. The most disciplined of all of the knights at the Glades, Harland was once a man with an adventurous past. A fighter by nature, he used to get into all sorts of trouble. However, after being betrayed by a companion of his, left injured and to take a blame for a crime the didn't commit, he was given the choice: reform or repent in solitude. Thus, he joined the guards, becoming Adaline's second in command and the strict and brutal side to Adaline's energetic and carefree atmosphere. He take his work very seriously, refusing to do much of small talk unless it's something to do with his duty to the guards. He also has a very bad anger issue and fails sometimes to hold his tongue.
Vocal Range: Lower Pitched
Vocal Personality: Stern, harsh, and always laced with a little bit of anger and annoyance. He's hard at trusting people, and often comes off as harsher than he intends to be. But he has good intentions, and ultimately can warm-up to you. When he does, he's actually quite the poetic romantic. He's just bad with his words.
Vocal Notes: Consider him the tsundere of sorts in the game. He starts off as an antagonist/rival to the MC, harboring distrust for them as they're an outsider to the kingdom. However, he does have a great respect for the reputation that the MC has, documenting it in his journal with genuine praise and affection as time passes. Not that he'll ever mention it aloud, however.
[angered and commanding]
“You’re the one who’s being unreasonable! It is my duty to keep you safe from harm’s way. But your recklessness will only make my job harder. So for once, do not argue with me. Obey my order and stay. Right. Here.”
[harsh yet patient]
“It’s because we’re your ‘family’ that we’re so worried, Adaline. You’re so stubborn that harsh words are the only way we can get to you. So, take my word for it when I say that you are better off healing. It’s less stress for you, and less stress to the guards – to us. And not allowing yourself time to recover and recuperate is just selfish. Not only to us, but to the healer you’ve invited to the castle.”
[compassionate and serious]
"You are by far the most frustrating person I've ever had to deal with. More than Isidore, more than Adaline -- more than anyone else I've met in my life. You don't know when to just do as your told and stop causing a conflict with me. But even though you're a handful to deal with, you always do it with the intentions to help people. I can't help but be drawn to you because of it.
ISIDORE IVALICE -- Age 31, Male. A scholar recruited by the royal guard to offer his insight and knowledge to the knights. With information on all sorts of things, from maps of various lands to customs and traditions, Isidore is the man to go to for anything. A bit eccentric and flirtatious with everyone who comes his way, he's a bit of a handful to deal with. But if you manage to befriend him and give him all sorts of tea (gossip and actual tea), he's more than happy to assist you. If not, then you best pay up in other various ways. He's a very majestic individual, despite his dramatic personality, but he proves to be a valuable ally to you -- especially when there's something rather 'magical' about him as well.
Vocal Range: Medium to Lower-Pitched
Vocal Personality: Dramatic in his vocal pattern and very refined in how he speaks. Despite this, he's got a very eccentric personality, full of jokes and suggestive dialogue that sometimes gets you confused on how you should react. But his wit and charm are easy to fall for, so be weary! He might be trying to get gossip out of you instead.
Vocal Notes:
Be weary of making him sound too over-the-top in his mannerism. He's an odd guy, but he's got this smooth charm with him that makes him a very sexy and sultry kind of guy. He's got his own baggage though, especially when he seems a bit too familiar with the main character already...
[nonchalant and suggestive]
"Oh, worry not about trying to hide things from me. We are confidantes now, after all. In times of crisis, one is meant to rely on someone in order to push forward. How about we lay down arms, hm?"
[direct and domineering]
“You are speaking awfully high and mighty for someone who can barely walk without shaking. Go on, you. Sit. Otherwise, I may have to resort to some rather... Underhanded tactics to keep you still.”
[amused and sincere]
"Come now, you’re expecting me to offer my hand when I haven’t even offered you my favorite blend of tea, or a night on the town? You’ve got this under control. I suppose I can live with that. I can tell that you’re going to be a dear to align with." [pause] "More or less, we’ve got a lot on our plate to consider now, don’t we? What’s say you that we call it a day and begin fresh tomorrow? I’m certain your travels have exhausted you."
ROWEN MARGRAVE -- Age 23, Non-Binary. One of King Valeron's most trusted agents who often handles the dirty work of the kingdom. Quiet and stoic, it's often hard to tell what's going on in Rowen's mind as they go about their daily tasks. That is, if you can find them about the castle. They're rather elusive. Rowen tends not to speak to many people, but perhaps it's better for them that way -- as they view themselves more as an expendable asset for Valeron to use. A bit on the angsty side, Rowen still showcases a passion and loyalty that burns brighter than anyone else, and will fight until their last breath to protect what is most valuable to them.
NOTE: ALL GENDERS ARE WELCOME TO AUDITION FOR THIS ROLE.
Vocal Range: Higher to Medium Pitched
Vocal Personality: A little on the more monotonous side, but there's this sense of underlying sadness in how they speak sometimes. Perhaps it's a bit of reflection with their poor personal outlook, but one can't tell with Rowen's overall mysterious appearance. When you do get them to open up though, they're a very soft-spoken and sincere individual.
Vocal Notes: Rowen's got alot of emotion hidden behind the mask and behind their calm exterior, so it'll be a challenge to capture the emotional subtext of their linework! But also, Rowen is a non-binary character, and we're seeking for a wide range of roles of all genders to see who can best fit the masked assassin.
[matter-of-factly]
“I do not want anything from you, but someone at the castle needs your assistance. I have been requested by Guard Captain Adaline Wendell to retrieve you and bring you to the kingdom of Vernia Glades.” [pause] “You are the best herbalist within the kingdom, are you not? According to her at least… She spoke high praises of you, and thus requested for me to seek you out.”
[gradually becomes more emotional and bitter]
"I had nothing before King Valeron. Nothing. They found me scrounging for scraps, fighting stray dogs for but a piece of bread in dark alleys of the city. I had no home, no family, nothing... But King Valeron saw something in me. He knew that my survival instincts were a cut above even some of the guards that had trained decades for. Without this duty of mine, I am nothing again. I would be...alone."
[in pain but determined]
“I...I realized what you said was right. For too long I’ve fought with the purpose of an entire Kingdom’s survival as my own. I thought that I could feel fulfilled with the path I was put on... The one I owed to our King. But now, I know that somehow my purpose is what I believe is right. And what I believed was right... Was saving you…”
SANCTUS -- AKA Theodosia Sidona. Age 36, Eventually revealed to be female. A mysterious threat to the Glades, the dark knight Sanctus has been a threat to the kingdom for an unknown time. Raiding and massacring villages, Sanctus has been doing many a crime in order to gain Valeron's attention, and only proving themselves a powerful foe as their attacks become more brutal with each passing week. They're frightening and menacing, displaying an aura that freezes you in fear the moment they turn and look at you. They need not utter an extra words as they strike you down with powerful demonic powers. It is eventually revealed that Sanctus was once a woman named Theodosia Sidona, a knight who had served as Valeron's lieutenant years ago before having been left to die. It's been a curse that has corrupted her for many years now.
Vocal Range: Lower Pitched
Vocal Personality: Intense and powerful from the moment they speak. Their voice is enough to instill terror in you, unsure whether or not they're a force to reckon with. Sanctus harbors a great deal of hatred and angry in their tone, speaking with venom against the kingdom that had left them for dead.
Vocal Notes: Sanctus will most likely have some vocal effects on their voice. So if you're female who can potentially pull off two distinctive voices -- as Sanctus and as Theodosia -- that would work wonders! However, for the Sanctus portion of the voice, we are potentially casting a male counterpart for the voice as well, so don't hesitate to maybe add this character to your auditions!
[SANCTUS -- Disappointed and menacing]
"Is this all that the guard has? All of the threats, all of the destruction that has wrought this kingdom, and all Valeron can send is two knights who can barely hold their own? Fruitless efforts deserve no praise... But I will offer you a chance to spare yourself from a tragic fate: bring me the head of your king, and I shall spare you all from my wrath."
[SANCTUS or THEODOSIA -- Underlying anger and disgust]
“This kingdom is a cesspool of traitors, only eager to further their own ambitions. They are willing to betray anyone if it means satisfying their lust for power. And they have the gall to claim that it is I who is the monster... But if they wish to make a monster of me, then so be it."
[THEODOSIA -- Outraged and distressed]
“You cannot begin to understand the torment that I have been through! The suffering of having to overcome your demons as they tear you asunder. My mind is full of these demons, my body defiled by the darkness itself. I have done nothing but suffer for the past decade thanks to your king! But I suffer no longer. For not only have I overcome my demons, I have embraced them. So now… I AM the demon that you all should fear!”
LYSANDER -- Age Unknown, Male. An unpredictable mage who was one said to have served the previous kings of the Glades. However, after being accused of using his magic to curse the late king's wife, Lysander was arrested and sentenced to death for his crimes. He eventually escapes, bitter at the kingdom that forsook him and his magic and show the world that the magic he had once used to heal can also be used to strike fear in the hearts of those that doubt him. He's wild and deranged, going to his own tune despite him being in close alignment with Sanctus. However, he's not bent on getting revenge on the king necessarily. He's got bigger plans... Much bigger plans.
Vocal Range: Higher to Medium Pitched
Vocal Personality: His monologues and speeches are almost like a performance art, being more over-the-top with his language and always smiling when talking, which contradicts his eerie words. He’ll tend to ask rhetorical questions to you, mostly as a means to sway you to think and begin to believe in his ideals. Manipulative and cunning, but also likes to call people ‘dear’ or ‘darling’ in almost a mocking sense.
Vocal Notes: Despite his villainous background, be weary of making him too cartoony. It's easy for one to make him sound like your typical Joker-eqsue person when mixing a sense of anarchy and wild demeanor into a character.
[amused and pleased with himself]
“Oh come now! Do you really think this is about some petty curse? Don’t be ridiculous! The curse is just a fun bonus. What the real goal isn’t just the suffering of one person… It’s the suffering of all!”
[feigned compassion and sinister in his words]
"They're falling around you. Piece by piece, the king's board is taken by the enemy. The knights, the bishop, and soon the king himself! He took will be forced to admit to a checkmate, and he will fall at the hands of Sanctus! Oh, such a tragedy as the kingdom falls to chaos and pandemonium!" [laughs] "But you know... It doesn't have to be this way. What do you say?"
[injured and more hysteric]
"To think after all this time, you've been hiding THIS magic from me! Why didn't you use it sooner? Why try to hide what you really are from me of all people? You know better than that!" [laughs as he heals himself] "It's been a long time since I've found myself entertained by another just like me. Not since HE thought he had the balls to face me in his state. So enlighten me, my dear. Show me what else you've been hiding from me!"
KING VALERON OF THE VERNIA GLADES -- Age 37, Male. The current king of the Vernia Glades and one with a reputation for his strategy and tactics out in the battlefield. He's a soft-spoken and gentle man for the most part, which often confuses many folks when they hear the tales of the man that brought the Vernia Glades to prosperity through cutthroat and fierce tactics. After all, you can't make a cake unless you break a few eggs. Despite his intense war-like tactics, he always displays a patient and compassionate demeanor, even though he harbors his regrets from the past as he ascended to the throne.
Vocal Range: Medium to Lower Pitched
Vocal Personality: A bit airy in the way he speaks, he almost gives off an ethereal ambiance as he talks and commands those to fulfill his wishes. He's never malicious to those he speaks to and often speaks of the guards with high praise, especially since he too was once a guard. He rarely raises his tone as well, but that's because no one's been able to make him angry... Yet.
Vocal Notes: Having a regal air in the performance is important when conveying Valeron, but capturing the softer side of him is most important. 'Speak softly and carry a large stick' is the motto that he goes by, which is often the best ways to get the attention of those who he wants to listen.
[curious and questioning]
"I had heard of an herbalist recruited by the guards... I'm a bit shocked that Captain Wendell did little to consult me about this. But perhaps she didn't wish to disturb me or Asterius." [chuckles softly] "Nevertheless, I am more than happy to welcome you to my kingdom. Should you ever wish for me, do not hesitate to let Asterius know. Any guest of the guardsmen is a guest of mine."
[unwavering and resolute in his words]
"In spite of all my sorrow, I stand by the choices that I have made. Your corruption is something that I grieve over, but were I given the choice again, I would do it all the same. You let your demons devour you, turning into the monster I see before me, and I pity you for it. But I stand by my choices once again. And I will make sure you are defeated once more."
[apologetic and mournful]
"Your bond with my guardsmen is something I have not overlooked, so fret not over it. However, my people have embraced the traditions of a hundred year old reign. They believe that your powers, your talents, are a curse. I do not wish to instill such fear upon them. So unless you may find a way to heal their hearts of the fear the plagues them, I cannot allow you to stay... I am deeply sorry..."
ASTERIUS MARQUIS -- Age 28, Male. King Valeron’s assistant who often speaks to the guards on his behalf. He’s rather quiet and reserved, but always talked about amongst the guards when he appears with how handsome he is. Valeron’s rather glad to have him at his side.
Vocal Range: Normal to Lower Pitched
Vocal Personality: When he appears, you know that he’s got something important to tell you all. Perhaps a bit more business than he intends to be, he’s got this air around him that screams nobility -- even more so than the king sometimes. He’s orderly and mature, and sometimes a little scary. But when talking with Valeron, it’s always in a kind and sincere voice. Perhaps loving even…?
[matter-of-factly and to the point]
"His majesty requests your presence within the royal chambers. Should you not comply, then punishment shall await you.” [pause] “I correct myself… Should you not comply, then his majesty shall be very… Disappointed.”
[patiently and gentle]
“My king… Your courage has always been a trait that I admire. However, courage should not turn into recklessness. Please allow your guards to resolve this matter before you raise your hand.”
SERENITY BARNHARDT -- Age 18, Female. A member of the royal guard who often deals with Adaline's antics and training regime. She's often left to deal with Adaline and keep her from doing anything crazy when Harland departs from the castle, leaving her a bit of a stressed-out mess who doesn't know how to deal with the knight captain sometimes. She tries her best though.
Vocal Range: Higher Pitched
Vocal Personality: She's much younger than many of those within the royal guard, but she still finds herself stuck with the brunt of alot of responsibility. It leaves her a bit panicked and weary, but she still tries her best no matter what. Whether it's because she's peppy like that is a mystery. But many assume it's because she's too scared to let Harland down.
[frantic and panicked]
“Oh, thank the goddess you’ve returned! Please do something about the captain! For goodness sakes, anything at all! She hasn't been listening to me for the past hour now, and I'm afraid that she's going to do something careless like-” [she yelps and shouts] "Captain, please...!"
[fatigued and traumatized in a comedic way]
"Please... Just take her back... I've been training since dawn. I can't feel my legs anymore because she's made me run three miles around the castle. And worst of all, she keeps beating me...!" [pause] "I'd try harder if you stopped kicking my sore legs out from underneath me, Captain!"
JEREMIAH EMBERLY -- Age 24, Male. A member of the royal guard who many question why a pretty boy like him ever made it into the guard. He's a kind and compassionate man, but he goes through quite a bit when helping Serenity deal with Adaline and her brutal training regime and overly-enthusiastic personality. He too tries his best.
Vocal Range: Normal Pitched
Vocal Personality: He speaks like a prince on the verge of a panic attack, trying his best to be as composed as he can be. But when faced with near-death experiences because of how many shields he has thrown at him, it's a wonder why he still sticks around. But he's always happy and pleasant regardless of his ongoing stress, and remains one of Adaline's most loyal guardsmen.
[worried but intimidated by Adaline]
“Captain Wendell, your victory streak is remarkable, yes. But you shouldn’t be straining yourself out more just for the sake of winning. I can speak on behalf of the other guards – on behalf of your lieutenant – that we are all worried about you.”
[nervous but trying to remain chipper]
"The lieutenant's... Definitely something, to put it lightly. But if you're ever worried about what he says, he usually doesn't mean it in a bad way, I swear! He actually does have some decent advice... Once you stop yourself from shaking in fear, I mean."
