Dawnsbury Days (Steam link) is a 2024 turn-based cRPG with a 98%+ overwhelmingly positive rating on Steam, from 850+ reviews. It's a singleplayer sincere and positive RPG story about a group of childhood friends who rise up to defend their hometown from evil monsters.
The Four-Leaf Clover is its third DLC expansion, which more than doubles the amount of existing content, adding an epic adventure for character levels 10–15 where the heroes travel all across the world to find all four pieces of the Four-Leaf Clover to restore the world’s protective barrier and drive out the demonic invasion.
Many actors will reprise their role from the base game and the first two expansions, but the new expansion also features many more characters. I want to cast those roles with this call.
About me: Hello! My name is Petr Hudeček, I created Dawnsbury Studios to develop this video game, and I’m also the casting director for this project. I’ve been making video games for 25 years now, since I was very small, and two years ago I finally produced my first commercial game! Adding voice acting to my game is something I’m always excited about, and so I’m looking forward to working with you!
Compensation: $125/recorded hour, minimum $50. (For example, if you have 11 lines, record 3 takes of each, and the resulting audio file is 12 minutes long, that would be 12/60 * $125 = $25, rounded up to the minimum $50, so your compensation would be $50. For roles with 40+ lines, I may request to do live direction.)
Total voiceover budget for the expansion is $8,000, which is about 1/3 of the development budget. We’re using the mid-tier Voice Acting Club indie rates.
Deadline: August 26th, 15:00 UTC (Wednesday)
No AI: Dawnsbury Days doesn’t use AI in any way; and I will not use your voice for AI. I reject all use of AI.
How to audition:
Record 2 takes for each audition line, in ABCABC order.
Do not slate.
In comments, include a link to your portfolio or previous work if possible.
Tone: This is a sincere story of good against evil. The heroes are genuine friends and the villains are generally aware that they're evil. The overall tone is bright, youthful, adventurous and optimistic: Life is full of wonders, so let's explore them. Good will triumph over evil eventually and there will be a happy ending for everyone (well the good guys, at least). Think of a Saturday morning cartoon.
The game attempts to emulate the feel of a tabletop roleplaying game, where characters use slightly exaggerated voices as the gamemaster must use a different voice tint for each character. In any case, most characters speak confidently, perhaps even theatrically, and in a strong voice. Characters enunciate well and clearly, while still emoting throughout. Think of it almost as if you're putting on a classical play.
The game is intended for ages 12+. Characters don’t say bad words, though the words “damn” and “idiot” sometimes appear in dialogue. One optional scene is sexually suggestive, but none of the characters in this casting call are involved in that scene.
