Danganronpa Fate's Return

Project Overview

The truth.

It hides in the shadows.

But is finding it really the right choice?

Concealing the truth of not remembering anything, Yume Fukuhara gets thrusted into a game of information where the wrong choice might make the difference between life and death. Being trapped in a killing game with fifteen other students turns out to be more difficult than you'd first think as there is no way to know who to trust. Acknowledging the risks of hiding the truth about herself, Yume goes on a journey in finding her memories while fighting for survival among people who seem to know a lot more than her…

----

Hi everyone, I'm Cronssi, the creator, director, writer and artist of the fan project Danganronpa Fate's Return! Thank you for being interested! Fate's Return is going to be following the Danganronpa structure and basic style and is going to be released in video form on Youtube. It has an original story and is not connected to the canon Danganronpa universe. The project started its production in summer 2018 and despite having slower patches, is now more active than ever. A casting call was created because this is the time I believe is a good opportunity to find voices for the project.

For voice acting, we're looking to have a similar amount of voice acting as the mainline Danganronpa games. This means that the dialogue from the daily life is mostly not voice acted and instead use short sound clips at the beginning of their lines. Important lines such as introductions, however, are going to be voiced. Lines accompanied by CGs are also to be voice acted along with class trials which are fully voiced.

Our progress

  • The story has been set in stone with all its plot points. All character deaths have been set in stone. Cases 1-3 have been fully completed in terms of writing and planning.

  • The script of the project has been completed up to Chapter 3 daily life.

  • On the art side, we have 120+ sprites in total ready to be used.

  • We also have multiple completed CGs and backgrounds with many more still in works

  • First episode for the prologue has been almost fully edited. The second episode's editing has already been started as well.

  • Here's a link to a showcase of our art so far

Before we get to auditions

We're looking for performances that fit the characters well. Please try to showcase your strengths. While we have given out our expectations for pitch, we're open for other pitch interpretations as long as the other intents get across. If you don't have decent microphone quality, it can hurt your chances of getting casted, even if your performance fits otherwise. You may audition for as many characters as you'd like. We prefer to avoid doublecasting and all casting decisions will be done after the deadline.

Please make sure you actually have time for the project. We try to set reasonable deadlines that you can meet, but do realize that we don't have time to wait for a month for a few lines. Due to Danganronpa's premise, the fan project will also be handling more mature themes. If you're sensitive to the topics the main Danganronpa series has dealt with previously, we ask you not to audition. We also ask you to not audition if you are under 16 years of age.

The deadline for this project is May 25th. No roles will be casted before that date. As we're expecting diligence from the casted voice actors/actresses, we're not accepting late entries. We're expecting the casting to be done during the following week, but the actual date may wary depending on the amount of auditions.

The project communication is on Discord. We expect your to be able to communicate over there so please have an account. We will be creating a separate project server for handling lines and the like, so you do not have to join the public server if you don't want to. Please note that even though the project server is for staff only and people who have been helping with feedback on the project, there will be no spoilers apart from what your lines will contain.

Latest Updates

  • Deadline has been extended by 24 hours!

Even though the deadline for the call was supposed to be the 25th as in 25th being the last way you could audition, CCC was ending it 12am GMT (w/o summertime). This would mean that the casting call would already end on the 24th for a lot of people. For this reason, the available time has been extended by a small amount. Thank you for understanding!

Yume Fukuhara - Ultimate Astrologist
closed
Unpaid
Role assigned to: EKO2003

Yume is the protagonist of Fate’s Return. She isn’t very outgoing, preferring to keep to herself especially when it comes to things she doesn’t want other people to know. Yume is often snarky and sarcastic and these should come across from her tone. She is also very aware of her surroundings and is realistic about them. She can also be quite judgemental, often being done with the shenanigans around her.

Yume’s voice is quite flat. This isn’t to say that her voice should be emotionless and cold or there being no intonation at all, it should just be less that for most characters. The voice overall should be calming. The VA has to be able to convey sarcasm in a way that doesn’t get it mixed up with her usual flatness. Yume’s voice pitch is medium-low.

  • [Forgetful, corrects herself quickly back to formal]
Right, I almost forgot. I’m Yume Fukuhara, the Ultimate Astrologist. My sun sign is Gemini. Nice to meet you, I guess.

  • [Monologuing]
I don’t mind being alone. It serves as a refresher from all the stuff happening. It’s like whenever there’s something, I’m always involved in one way or another.

  • [A bit frustrated]
You don’t need to say your blood type. I mean, unless you’re expecting me to do a blood transfusion or something.
    [Sarcastically]
That wouldn’t end well because I’m not a doctor in case you didn’t realize yet.

Youko Sasai - Ultimate Archer

Role assigned to: yugoyugo

Youko likes to try a lot of different things and doesn’t really know how to just relax, seeming to always be on edge. She is impulsive and despite being a rational thinker, makes decisions too quickly even to the point of recklessness. Despite this, she tries her best to be helpful.

Youko’s voice should be generally confident. While she does have her awkward moments, Youko presents herself with an air of knowing what she’s doing and not taking crap from anyone. The voice has to be able to also convey more awkward and shy moments. Youko’s pitch is medium-high.

  • [Starts off unsure, gets more confident after the word “better”]
I’m worried as well. I hope things will get better. The name is Youko Sasai! I hope I can get to know you!

  • [Trying to calm down the situation]
Give us a break, this situation isn’t easy to handle. No one knows what’s going on after all.

  • [A bit annoyed]
Well, obviously no one else is doing this. We’re the only ones here and not all the jobs you do in your life are pleasant. With two people we’ll be done in no time.

Sumire "Aichan" Nakamura - Ultimate Idol

Role assigned to: HecticVexor

Sumire, better known as Aichan, is cheerful and energetic. Her positiveness is contagious even if you’re not fond of her way of speaking. Sumire talks about herself in the third person as “Aichan” and addresses other people with the -chan honorific. She also has a taste for horrible puns.

Sumire’s voice should be more high-pitched, but it shouldn’t be squeaking. Her voice should overall be pleasant to listen to while also upkeeping the energy and positiveness. Sumire should not sound like she’s faking the happiness. The VA won’t be required to sing.

  • [Energetic, like introducing herself to a big audience]
Aichan’s name is Sumire Nakamura and is also known as Aichan! She is the third member of the idol group Go!Go!Go! and the Ultimate Idol! Thank you for having Aichan here!

  • [Encouraging]
Aichan is glad to hear your enthusiasm! She is wishing you luck on the journey!

  • [Looking around amazed, excited]
There is so much stuff Aichan can use for costume creation! Even though she can’t perform currently, Aichan can create costumes for the next time!

Go - Ultimate _________

Role assigned to: akp

If there is one word to describe Go, it’s private. She doesn’t like to speak about herself to the point where she refuses to give her name and talent, opting for a nickname instead. She comes across as cold and calculated and will not hesitate to hurt anyone’s feelings. Go doesn’t talk a lot, but when she does, she has something important to say.

Go’s voice should be cold and sharp. She doesn’t play friendly and speaks like she’s talking down to everyone. She should sound very confident and sure of herself, not hesitating at all to say what she does. Go’s pitch should be medium-low to low.

  • [Belittling, annoyed]
You said that you’re here to introduce yourselves. You didn’t say even a single word about me. Now would you piss off? I don’t want anything to do with you unless I absolutely have to.

  • [Frustrated]
You don’t get what’s going on, do you? What those two are doing is manipulation. They’re saying that there’s no exit and after our panic they reveal that there in fact *is* a way out of this place. It makes it seem like the only possible solution to get out of the situation.

  • [Pissed off]
Are you just going to be that fucking ignorant to all this!? I knew you guys were hopeless but the thought of you all being this incompetent makes me sick.

Hana’s easily excitable and energetic. She likes to play around and is all over the place, trying to do many things at the same time. She’s very lively and friendly, liking to spend time with people. She also displays a wide variety of emotions, not really being ashamed of them.

Hana’s voice should sound youthful while not being childish. Her enthusiasm should be clear from her voice. Her voice shouldn’t be harsh, being more on the softer side. Hana’s voice should be from medium-high to high pitched.

  • [Surprised and a bit embarrassed]
Agh, I haven’t told you my name yet, have I? My name is Hana Akiyama! Blood type A, birthday April 13th, 3rd year, and people call me the Ultimate Botanist!

  • [Like telling a story]
I have visited a rainforest a few times and the nature there was so different from here! There were different plants and animals everywhere! Some of them were venomous and you definitely had to be on your guard.

  • [Excited]
Look at all of these flower pins! Sounds like me, right? I have to take a whole bunch, I bet they’d look so cute! If there’s ever a special occasion, I’ll be sure to use these!

Shiori Kamio - Ultimate Librarian

cast offsite

Shiori is highly emotional, seemingly wearing her emotions on her sleeve. She isn’t afraid to voice her opinions and thoughts in any situation. She can switch from vulgar, to annoyed, to flirtatious in a matter of minutes. Shiori is also devoted to the Greek goddess Athene, to whom she often seems to turn to when things get rough.

Shiori often speaks in an accusatory tone even if she doesn’t really mean to. Her voice is authoritative and she speaks clearly. Overall, Shiori’s voice is quite loud and a bit snobby, but it shouldn’t sound like it belongs to a small child. Her pitch is medium.

  • [Graceful]
The name is Shiori Kamio, and I’m the Ultimate Librarian. I have asserted myself as the librarian here and ask you won’t disturb it under Athene’s watch.

  • [Annoyed, desperate]
Anyone can backstab you at any second. Can you really feel at peace knowing that!?

  • [Scoffing]
I’m doing this out of obligation. Being a librarian is my job, I shouldn’t even be this rude to a visitor.

Nonoka Atsumi - Ultimate Journalist

Role assigned to: Wubcake

Nonoka’s usual demeanor is quite calm to the point where she might seem a bit cold at first, but Nonoka is quite friendly, liking to spend time around people. She is quite observant, picking up on even small details and piecing them together. Nonoka doesn’t usually let loose from her usual behavior, but it is possible to get a chuckle out of her.

Nonoka’s voice should be calming. She speaks a bit slower than most and should have a certain sternness to her voice. It shouldn’t be overwhelming, just enough that you know when she says no, she means it. Nonoka’s pitch is in the medium range.

  • [Calming, reassuring]
I’m Nonoka Atsumi, the Ultimate Journalist. Despite my talent, please don’t be afraid to tell me about different things you have in mind - I won’t be writing anything without your permission. It’s the pride I take in my job.

  • [Friendly, playful]
Even though I’m not writing anything about it, it can still be useful. I’ve become pretty good at piecing things together and creating a bigger picture.

  • [Serious]
This situation is confusing for all of us. What we need to do is stay calm. They want us to panic. They wouldn’t have revealed something as big as that if they didn’t want us to turn against each other. In fact, they probably wanted this to happen.

Sara Matsuo - Ultimate Badminton Player

Role assigned to: Rainy

Sara might seem a bit shy at first, but it doesn’t take long for her to show her spiky side. She is skeptical and doesn’t trust people easily, leading to Sara not being great at making friends. In addition, Sara isn’t exactly the friendliest person around, being a bit mischievous and voicing her distrust quite clearly.

Sara’s voice should be prideful with a hint of mischievousness. The pride shouldn’t be to the point of her sitting on a high horse, but more of just a slight disapproval of most of the people around her. As Sara isn’t closed off, her voice should be able to portray many different kinds of emotions. Her pitch is medium high.

  • [Prideful]
I am Sara Matsuo. I’ve been winning numerous tournaments and so, I’ve been chosen as the Ultimate Badminton Player.

  • [Accusing, hostile]
What do you mean you can do nothing about it? You’re the one who put us in this mess!

  • [Flustered]
Then what are you here for? The only reason people would approach you in situations like these are because of accusations or something that’ll make you accuse them.

Takeshi Endo - Ultimate Veterinarian

Role assigned to: Viester

Takeshi is the type of person to keep to himself because he doesn’t want to bother anyone. He doesn’t have all that much self-confidence, resulting in him being quite non-assertive. Takeshi doesn’t completely reject the idea of hanging out with people, he’s just shy.

Takeshi’s voice should be quite quiet and soft. His shyness and timidness should be clear from it. Takeshi tries his best to be clear with his words but ends up slightly mumbling. He also stutters when he’s nervous or stressed. Takeshi’s pitch is medium to medium low.

  • [Shy, a bit nervous]
I’m no psychologist, but if you want to talk about it, my ears are open. I’m Takeshi Endo and despite the circumstances, it’s nice to meet you.

  • [A bit melancholic]
I’m supposedly the Ultimate Veterinarian. I wasn’t the best even at the clinic I worked at, though. There was always someone better and more skilled than me.

  • [unsure, bit panicked]
D-Don’t we have anything else more important to discuss…?

Shin Tokioka - Ultimate Horologist

Role assigned to: Sir Chasm

Shin is best described as cool and composed to the point of being distant from the rest of the group. He clearly knows more than he lets on, but prefers to let others come to their conclusions instead of just giving them the answer. Despite being a bit distant, Shin isn’t unwelcoming or unfriendly, he more so just doesn’t seem to get how to act in those kinds of social situations.

Shin should sound very formal, maybe even with more of a posh accent. He addresses the others by their last names and overall speaks more formally. Shin doesn’t emote a lot with his voice, but it should not end up sounding robotic. His pitch should be low.

  • [Very formal]
Let me introduce myself. My name is Shin Tokioka and I am the Ultimate Horologist. It is a pleasure to meet you.

  • [Dismissive]
I used to work at room service. I have seen plenty of parties, but never been to one myself. A party lifestyle doesn’t suit me either.

  • [explaining]
There is no reason to present my argument any further. It is absolutely ridiculous to attempt it after the argument has no standing. Imagine a match. You wouldn’t attempt to light a fire after its tip has been broken off, would you?

Role assigned to: Ramen in a Cupboard

Ken values straightforwardness and despite being a bit stuck to his ways, tries to work past his flaws. He might be a bit too confident and not caring about what others think of what he does. Ken does have a more vulnerable side to him, becoming flustered when someone mentions things he doesn’t want to admit being true.

Ken’s voice should be clear and leader-like, being more on the louder side and saying his words with confidence. When flustered, Ken becomes quieter and more awkward. His pitch is medium-high.

  • [Proud]
Chit-chat out of the way, I haven’t introduced myself. My name is Ken Harimoto and I’m the Ultimate Blacksmith. Looking forward to working with you.

  • [Trying to get people to listen]
Guys. We’re here to investigate, not to come up ideas for stupid activities…
    [Flustered]
Shut up! Didn’t I already say that I didn’t want to?

  • [Leader-like]
We’re accomplishing nothing by just idling around. We don’t have time to have idly chat and wonder about the Zeroes' motivations and reasoning.

Tsugumichi is a bit aloof, but he likes talking and being part of conversations. He is most of the time rational and chill, but he gets way too into his interests, being able to talk about them for hours. Tsugumichi is quite friendly and often says things without having really thought them through first.

Tsugumichi’s voice should be a bit scratchy due to being constantly tired. When he gets enthusiastic about something, that scratchiness disappears, getting replaced with overflowing excitement. His voice should overall be assured. Tsugumichi’s pitch is medium.

  • [A bit tired]
I’m somewhat known in the community, but I’m still trying to get to the top. There’s a lot of other developers who I think are better than me, but I’ve gotten the achievement of the Ultimate Game Developer.

  • [Generally friendly]
That's why I started creating my own. The first ones were VNs, but then I learnt how to code more complex real time mechanics and such. I made a few platformers and one of them was a breakthrough.

  • [Enthusiastic]
I haven’t given up though! I’m looking for the second breakthrough! And I’m sure I can do it!

Role assigned to: Yelxuh

Mamoru Otomiya is highly forgetful and a bit timid. Despite his style of clothing, he isn’t really that outgoing or sure of himself. He likes hanging around people, but he doesn’t talk a lot about himself or of what he thinks.

Mamoru, even though he doesn’t speak often, has a highly expressive voice. It should be fairly clear what he’s feeling from his voice, even if his words may contradict it or he doesn’t want to say what he thinks out loud. There can often also be an undertone of unsureness. Mamoru’s pitch is medium-high to medium.

  • [Friendly]
I guess that’s not what you’re here for. My name is Mamoru Otomiya and I’m the Ultimate Audio Engineer. Nice to meet you!

  • [Wondering]
In all seriousness, how can I know if I’ve forgotten something? I mean, there isn’t a period of time that I think is missing. Then again, if it was, how would I know it even happened?

  • [A bit embarrassed]
My audio style is different. I don’t follow the rules if I don’t have to. My style is based on feel. Does it sound good and fit the mood? If so, it’s good. It's a creative business, any rules that exist are bound to be broken at some point.

Reiji Egawa - Ultimate Illustrator

Role assigned to: Philip Kraaijenhof

Reiji is first and foremost a creative person and outside of the box thinker. He might be a bit cold and dismissive towards others, he tends to come around when he’s needed the most. He pays a lot of attention to detail, including the others’ feelings. However, Reiji would rather say what he thinks people need to hear instead of what they want to hear.

Something to note about Reiji is that he is ftm (female to male) trans. Please do not base your interpretation of his voice around that, but it might be something you want to take into consideration.

Reiji’s voice should be on the sharper side, but assured. In most scenarios he should sound confident, almost like a possible leader figure, but not insensitive to the others around him. Reiji’s pitch is medium-high for a male character.

  • [Confident]
Then allow me to introduce myself. Before you stands Reiji Egawa, the Ultimate Illustrator. Keep it in mind, you will need it later.

  • [Frustrated, but not looking down or dismissive]
Am I denying that? No. My talent may be useless, but I, myself, am not. If you want to prove yourself, you need to do something to earn my respect. I don’t give out respect like it’s a sample test. It isn’t just you who I’m saying this to.

  • [A bit cold]
If there’s anything we’re wasting our time on it’s debating about this. There is no such thing as unlimited time.

Role assigned to: CGZ

Shougo doesn’t remember his talent, but that doesn’t make him unhelpful, being a practical thinker. Shougo doesn’t mind socializing or making friends but he seems to always be a bit distant. Always focused on his goal, Shougo doesn’t want to sacrifice anything to reach it.

Shougo’s voice should sound a bit more mature for his age, being more calming and smooth. A little tone of mysteriousness would also be great in the delivery. His voice shouldn’t be too assured or strong though, a more soft voice would work. Shougo’s pitch is medium.

  • [Trying to explain]
Listen. Those dolls are our kidnappers. Why would they go out of their way to kidnap us if they’re not going to do something?

  • [Bit annoyed]
At least I’m open about not remembering my talent. Concealing something as big as that can never be a good thing.

  • [Trying to explain]
We’ll have to live with it. We don’t have a choice. People resort to desperate measures easier than you seem to think.

Kisho may be a bit naive, but he’s not stupid. Being people-smart, Kisho’s able to easily create bonds with the people around him. He’s truly a social butterfly and his easy-goingness and kindness make him easily approachable… if the looks don’t intimidate you.

Kisho’s voice should be youthful and sound laid-back. He can be very loud, he’s not the type to really hold his volume down. Kisho also panics a lot when he’s met with his fear of dolls, which should be clear from his voice. His pitch is medium-low to low.

  • [Confident, cheerful]
Traveler of the world, Kisho Katasaki here! Prepare to meet the Ultimate Translator! Well, we already met but don’t sweat the details! Nice to meetcha!

  • [Like it’s not a big deal]
Sometimes you run into things you can do nothin’ about. So instead of worryin’, I’ve taken the chance to try to see if I’m alone in this.

  • [Panicking]

Chirei, one of the Zeroes, is more of your typical showrunner in the fangame. She’s sadistic, enjoys seeing others struggling for their lives, has a short temper, strong opinions and is overall very calculated and sly when it comes to running the things behind the scenes.

Chirei’s voice should be high pitched, childlike and carry that uncanny feeling with a childish sounding character saying morbid things, such as talking cheerfully about murder. The voice should often have a sadistic undertone.

  • [Sharp and to the point]
You’re way too much of a softie. Hey, you will be living here together the rest of your lives! Do you get it?

  • [With childlike innocence]
A crime scene is only a crime scene if you think of it that way. A dead body is a dead body if you think it’s a dead body. To me that is just a clue to solving this mystery. And that mystery ends in at least one of you getting turned into a corpse!

  • [Full of sadism]
In other words, we mean good old reliable murder! We don’t really care how you do it, use your imagination! Be creative and unpredictable! You will have to get away with your sins after all!

Role assigned to: PiperJG

Oriki, the second of the Zeroes, is softer, clearly having a sweet spot for the participants and not bloodthirsty. He does more of what he’s told to do and acts upon what he thinks he should be doing. Overall Oriki resembles a regular participant from his personality more than a showrunner.

Oriki’s voice should also be higher pitched, sounding like a very young boy. He’s quieter and his voice carries a sense of childlike innocence and cheerfulness, but having an undertone of gloominess. Because of his vocal range, also female voice actresses will be encouraged to audition.

  • [Melancholic]
I didn’t have much to do today to begin with and I’m sort of happy to see all of you here...  At least when I still have a chance to do that. People die. That’s just how it goes. I’ve already accepted it.

  • [Starts off melancholic, tries to be a bit more cheerful]
I guess sis would call it a motive, but I don’t really want to kill you. I’m just here to see how you act under pressure. How people react when put into weird situations is interesting. Plus it gives you something to do and think about.

  • [Desperate]
I treat the participants with respect for their lives. I do much like it more if you do decide to not kill anyone!
