Cracked Mirror

Cracked Mirror

Project Overview

Olivia doesn’t know how to feel — only how to explode. Burdened by unspoken trauma, unmanaged emotions, and the chaos of growing up, she lashes out at school, at home, and sometimes even at the people who love her most.

Her anchor is Avery — wild, goofy, loyal to the core — and Annorah, the quiet soul who understands more than she ever says. The three of them used to be inseparable. But now Annorah is drifting away, shutting down, and Olivia is too afraid — or too angry — to ask why.

Caught in a storm of emotion she can’t name, Olivia begins to unravel. When even Avery can't make her laugh the pain away anymore, and Annorah seems to vanish into silence, Olivia must face what she’s been running from all along: the feelings beneath the rage, the fear of being unlovable, and the fragile version of herself she’s hidden from everyone — including herself.

Olivia is smart, observant, and fiercely independent, but she rarely lets people see that side of her. On the outside, she can come across as combative, moody, or withdrawn. Inside, she’s a whirlwind of emotions she doesn’t fully understand — sadness, rage, fear, confusion — all tangled up. She doesn’t trust easily, especially adults, and struggles to express what she’s going through in words.

She’s not “bad” — she’s hurt. Her anger is a defense mechanism, a way to protect herself from vulnerability. Despite her outbursts and rough edges, she cares deeply and feels everything intensely. She just hasn’t figured out how to cope in a world that often feels overwhelming or unfair.

Role assigned to: Avery

Avery is the kind of kid who can make a joke out of anything, even a mental breakdown — and she usually does. She's the class clown without being annoying, the kind of person who can break the tension with one word or a ridiculous dance move. But she’s not just funny — she’s genuine. Sweet, kind-hearted, and loyal to a fault.

She sees Olivia in a way no one else does. She doesn’t get scared off by Olivia’s moods — she leans in. Where Olivia is stormy and guarded, Avery is sunshine and open arms. But they’re also incredibly similar: both misunderstood, both navigating big feelings, and both using humor to survive. Together, they’re a chaotic, lovable duo — always cracking jokes, making weird videos, or pretending to be spies in the school hallways.

Annorah sees the cracks in Olivia’s mirror long before anyone else. But being the emotional anchor for someone in pain has a cost. As Olivia self-destructs, Annorah must decide whether to keep fighting for the girl she once knew — or finally choose herself.

  • Emotional Breakdown (After Olivia does something self-destructive) "You keep setting fire to everything good in your life and then ask why you’re standing in ashes. I’m tired, Olivia. I’m tired of watching you burn."

  • Inner Monologue (Voiceover Style) "Sometimes I wonder if she even sees me anymore. Or if I’ve just become part of the wreckage she steps over on her way to destroying herself."

  • A Final Plea (Annorah is deciding whether to stay or walk away) "I love you, Liv. I always have. But I can't be your punching bag while you figure yourself out. If you want me in your life... you have to meet me halfway."

Ali is the zesty, unfiltered heart of the group — a walking burst of personality with a sharp tongue, a soft heart, and just the right amount of chaos. Known for his dramatic flair and perfectly timed one-liners, Ali keeps the mood light even when things get heavy. But behind the sass and sarcasm is a loyal friend who feels deeply, even when he pretends not to.

Ali’s got a not-so-secret crush on Avery — Olivia’s sharp, no-nonsense best friend. He hides his nerves behind confidence, using humor to deflect his feelings. He’s the guy who’ll show up with snacks, wild stories, and a playlist for every emotional meltdown. But when things get real, Ali surprises everyone with just how serious he can be.

  • 1. Flirty + Nervous (To Avery) "So… hypothetically, if someone — say, me — asked you to hang out, like not in a 'we’re all trauma-bonded' way, but in a ‘maybe I like you’ kind of way… what would your facial expression look like? Asking for science."

  • 2. Comic Relief + Concern (To the group) "Okay, I know I’m usually the glitter glue holding this mess together, but Olivia just told a teacher to ‘choke on her own repression,’ and I’m starting to think we might need actual help. Or snacks. Probably both."

  • 4. Vulnerable Moment (To himself or a friend) "It’s like… every time Avery looks at me, I’m this loud, annoying side character. And I want to be more than that. I just don’t know how to not be… me."

Mrs. Wrobleski

Deferred: Agreed Amount
Role assigned to: Alison Rouge

Mrs. Wrobleski is a passionate, emotionally intuitive choir teacher in her early 30s who believes music can reach places that words can't. Her classroom isn’t just a place to sing — it’s a sanctuary for expression, healing, and truth. She teaches with intensity, compassion, and the unwavering belief that every student’s voice matters.

That belief is tested with Olivia Mattson.

Olivia used to love singing. She used to lose herself in it — until life got heavy, and she stopped letting herself feel joy. Now, she shows up late to choir, avoids solos, and acts like she doesn’t care. But Mrs. Wrobleski can see through the bravado. She hears what Olivia won’t say — in the way her voice trembles when she thinks no one’s listening, in the way her silence hurts more than any outburst.

The two clash often. Olivia is fire — defensive, explosive. Wrobleski is structure — emotional but controlled. Their battles in class are less about notes and rhythms, and more about what it means to be seen, and the fear of being truly known.

But despite the conflict, Mrs. Wrobleski never gives up on her. She sees the girl who used to love singing — and the young woman who still does, deep down. Her greatest challenge, and maybe her greatest purpose, is to help Olivia believe in her voice again.

  • 1. Firm but caring (during choir rehearsal, speaking to Olivia) "You walk in like this doesn’t matter — but I’ve heard you sing, Olivia. And I don’t mean just the notes. I mean you. You don’t get to pretend your voice doesn’t matter when I know it does."

  • 3. Emotional confrontation (after Olivia skips rehearsal again) "You keep acting like you're above this, like you don’t care. But the truth is, you care so much it scares you. That voice of yours? It’s not broken. You’re just afraid of what will come out if you really let it sing."

  • 6. Frustrated but pleading (after Olivia walks out mid-song) "You don’t get to quit every time it gets hard. That’s not how music works. That’s not how life works. You owe it to yourself to finish the song."

Muhammed

Role assigned to: Sae

Muhammed isn’t the popular guy. He’s quiet, isolated — the kind of person who sits in the back of the room, never raises his hand, and gets laughed at when he does. People saw him as weird. Weak. And when he was bullied, no one said anything — except Olivia.

She was the first person who stood up for him. The first person who saw something good in him when no one else did. And maybe that scared him more than being ignored ever did.

So when someone dared him to ask her out — to fake feelings, to make her fall — he said yes. Not because he was heartless, but because he didn’t know how to handle being seen. It was easier to turn her kindness into a joke than admit he needed it.

And when Olivia found out? When her heart shattered and she spiraled into depression? Muhammed told himself it wasn’t his fault. But deep down, he knows it was. He just doesn’t know what to do with the guilt — so he hides behind coldness, pretending he doesn’t care.

But he does. And that might be the most painful part of all.

  • 3. Cruel and distant (when Olivia confronts him, and he can’t face it) "It was a dare, okay? That’s all. Get over it. You’re not some tragic victim — you just fell for the wrong person."

  • 5. Manipulative (masking shame with fake confidence) "It wasn’t that deep. She took it too seriously. I didn’t ask her to fall for me. That’s on her."

  • 2. Vulnerable and angry (to a friend or himself, unraveling slightly) "You think I don’t care? She was the only person who ever stood up for me. And I ruined it. I ruined her. So yeah, maybe I act like I don’t care — because if I do, then what the hell am I supposed to do with that?"

Olivia and Hazels Mom

Role assigned to: Annissa Derbique

Olivias mom is a woman stretched thin — not visibly, not in the way people talk about exhaustion, but in the quiet, permanent way that settles in your bones when life never gives you room to rest. In her early 40s, Elaine is polished on the outside — tidy hair, calm voice, everything in its place — but beneath the surface is a mother who’s barely holding it together.

She doesn’t know what to do with Olivia anymore. Her daughter used to sing around the house, smile for no reason, leave scribbled lyrics on the fridge. Now, Olivia is rage and silence and slammed doors. Elaine tries to fix it the way she fixes everything: with structure, rules, and a quiet sort of distance. But structure doesn’t heal trauma, and distance doesn’t reach a child who’s already slipping away.

Elaine loves her daughter — deeply. But she’s terrified of what Olivia is becoming. And even more terrified that she might be part of the reason.

She doesn’t scream. She doesn’t cry. She just folds laundry in silence and asks questions Olivia won’t answer, desperate for a version of her daughter she can recognize again.

Elaine isn’t cruel. She’s scared, tired, and full of unspoken grief — trying to be strong in a house where everything is breaking.

  • Frustrated but loving (after Olivia lashes out) “I’m not trying to punish you. I’m scared. Scared you’re slipping away from me and there’s nothing I can do to stop it.”

  • Quiet worry (talking to Olivia, trying to reach her) “Olivia… I don’t know what to say anymore. I just want to help you, but you keep shutting me out. Please, just… let me in, even a little.”

  • (yelling, voice breaking with anger and fear): “Stop shutting me out! I’m your mother—not the enemy! How many times do I have to tell you that I’m here, even when you push me away? You don’t get to disappear on me!”

Hazel is Olivia’s older sister, by 11 months and what feels like a lifetime. Where Olivia is chaos and fire, Hazel is control and ice. She’s the dependable one, the achiever, the “easy kid” their mom never has to worry about. But behind closed doors, she is a completely different person.

Hazel sees everything. She sees the way Olivia spirals. The way their mom breaks down silently behind closed doors. The way no one in the house says what they mean. She’s tired of being overlooked just because she doesn’t scream. She loves Olivia — but she’s also angry. Angry at the way Olivia pulls all the gravity in the room. She's angry that she’s expected to be the calm, responsible one even while watching her sister unravel.

But Haley’s not heartless. She’s scared too. And underneath all the resentment is a deep, aching love for the girl Olivia used to be — and maybe still is, buried somewhere under all the pain. Hazel struggles with mental health issues with always thinking everything is her fault, and its not, olivia hopes that one day she will realize it's not.

  • 4. Defensive (when someone blames her for being cold) “You think I don’t care? I care so much it makes me sick. But caring doesn’t fix her. Nothing does.”

  • 5. Vulnerable (alone, late at night, maybe in a whispered phone call or voice memo) “Sometimes I wonder if she even knows I’m still here. Like, if I disappeared tomorrow, would anyone notice? Or would the silence just… get quieter?”

As Olivia battles her inner demons—stemming from family issues and past traumas—Catherine steps in as her unwavering support, determined to help her navigate the turbulent waters of her emotions. Together, they embark on a journey of self-discovery, exploring unconventional methods like art therapy, mindfulness, and heartfelt conversations under the stars. However, as Olivia's anger manifests in unpredictable ways, their friendship is tested. Catherine must confront her fears and learn how to balance being a friend with setting boundaries. As tensions rise, can Catherine help Olivia find a path to healing before it's too late? "Through the Flames" is a poignant tale of friendship, resilience, and the power of understanding, reminding us that sometimes, it’s not just about the battles we fight but who stands beside us through the fire.

Tells the story

  • Tone: Reflective, haunting) They used to speak in code — not words exactly, but glances, laughter, the kind of silence that says I get it. Olivia. Avery. Annorah. Three corners of something whole. But now, Annorah barely meets Olivia’s eyes. Her silences stretch too long, not safe or shared — just... gone. Olivia pretends not to notice. Pretends it doesn’t matter. But the truth is, the silence between them says everything Olivia’s too scared to ask: Why are you slipping away? And if she did ask — if she reached out — what would she even say? She doesn't know how to ask for someone to stay. Only how to scream when they leave.

  • She's been running and never gets tired

  • Tone: Intimate, vulnerable, soft) If Olivia says it out loud — that she’s scared, that she feels like a mess no one wants to clean up — will the world end? Or worse... will it stay exactly the same? Maybe that’s why she doesn't say it. Why she hides behind the jokes, the outbursts, the eye-rolls and slammed lockers. Because what if the people she loves hear the truth... and walk away anyway? What if Avery stops laughing? What if Annorah never looks back? What if the only one left standing is the Olivia she doesn’t want to be?

read other ali disc but this ali sings the songs

  • "Say It, Don't Say It" (Ali’s Song) (Verse 1) She walks in, chaos in motion, smiling like she owns the room. I crack a joke, play it casual, but my heartbeat skips in two. (Pre-Chorus) She laughs—way too close, and suddenly I forget my lines. If I say it now, it’s over— so I stall, buy some time. (Chorus) Say it—don’t say it, why’s my voice stuck in my throat? I could tell her, I could show her, but instead I make a joke. She never sees me falter, never sees me lose control. Say it—don’t say it, guess I’ll never let her know. (Verse 2) I should be smooth, I should be clever, I should be cool—it never works. Every time I try to say it, the words just turn to nerves. (Bridge) She tells me secrets, calls me “bestie,” leans on me when things get rough. But does she ever wonder why I never say enough? (Final Chorus) Say it—don’t say it, why’s my heart stuck in my chest? I could tell her, I could show her, but I joke instead—what a mess. She never sees me falter, never sees me lose control. Say it—don’t say it, guess I’ll never let her know.
