Episode 3 | Chauliodus
A mystery/horror radio drama anthology.
What was supposed to be a last girls trip getaway before a wedding turns into a fight for survival when a private island resort and its owner reveal themselves to be something far more sinister than anyone bargained for. Old friendships, old debts, and an ancient hunger all come due on the island of Chauliodus.
This is the third installment in our ongoing mystery anthology series. Each episode is a self-contained story, connected by tone and theme rather than continuing characters. Runtime: approx. [60] minutes.
Each lead character should sound like they're in their twenties or thirties.
I've added "American" as an accent note for each of the four leads, but I'm open to a unique accent or a different interpretation of their characters if you feel so inclined.
There is no required live read for this project, but if any of the cast want to read together I will accommodate that. If you are cast, the process for line submissions is "Best Take" with retakes when needed.
No AI will be used in this episode.
Voice Actor
A newly viral singer, days away from marrying her fiancé Henry and moving to England. Serra is warm, driven, and fiercely loyal to the people who got her where she is. However, she’s also learning over the course of one horrific night exactly how far that loyalty should go. She spends the episode shifting from celebratory bride-to-be, to terrified survivor, to someone forced to make an unbearable moral choice about a friend who's become a monster. Needs a wide emotional range: playful and affectionate early, then raw grief, then steel.
Voice Type - Mid/low-toned/natural

Voice Actor
A nightclub and bar entrepreneur who's spent years quietly, obsessively in love with his best friend Serra. He has also just bought an island resort to try to win her approval. Charming and a little sleazy on the surface, Spike unravels across the episode into something genuinely dangerous: a man willing to bargain his friends' lives away rather than lose the one thing he wants. The role needs an actor who can play charismatic and quietly unhinged as the same person, with a final scene of real vulnerability and collapse.

Voice Actor
The group's soft-hearted optimist.
A little scattered, a little naive, prone to bouncing between spiritual fads (a running joke with an edge, given her history with a cult). Penny is underestimated by everyone around her, including herself, but she's the one who ends up quietly, terrifiedly heroic when it counts. Needs an actor comfortable with big comedic energy who can also sell genuine panic and grief without losing the character's essential sweetness.

"I brought some of my company’s books too! Let’s see, I’ve got ‘Leave it to Baby,’ ‘Green Baby Acres,’ ‘Gilligan’s Island of Babies’… Ok, you got me; it's mostly just a cash grab—but the paintings I did for them are so cute." (rambling, high energy)
"But w-what if she isn't dead? What if you were wrong?" (voice cracking, refusing to accept it)
Voice Actor
A newly-minted CFO, dry, sharp-tongued, and the group's designated realist. Janet is skeptical of everyone’s motives- including Spike’s. It’s her suspicion that starts unraveling the mystery. Despite her skepticism and coldness, she’s a fiercely loyal friend to both Serra and Penny. She survives a head injury and a betrayal and comes out the other side stronger and more dangerous. Great role for an actor who can land deadpan comic timing early and then pivot hard action-thriller intensity.

Voice Actor
Serra's fiancé.
A literature professor: gentle, a little bookish, and protective without being controlling. Mostly bookending scenes, but should feel like a genuine emotional anchor and contrast to Spike.

"Are you kidding? I'm just dying for the day I can interrupt class with a big slideshow of you and me at the altar." (easy, affectionate warmth)
"I understand. I'm going to be taking you even further away from them." (a little guilty, self-aware about the cost of his happiness)
Voice Actor
The entity- or possibly the island itself- that the resort is named for. Never fully explained, always in control of the conversation. Should sound almost reasonable, kind, right up until it isn't. Think a predator that's had centuries to perfect its bedside manner. A role for a voice actor who can be unsettling without ever raising their volume.
"Evidence can be difficult to piece together after it's been blown to bits in a storm... Water can wash away footprints... and blood." (calm, almost soothing, describing something horrific)
"That isn't your name. It's just a nickname you got when you were a child. Not even Serra knows your real name." (intimate, needling, uncomfortably well-informed)
“You maggots! Flesh flies! Sniveling pests of the earth!" (the mask is off, guttural fury)
