Charlie Horse - Animated Pilot (New Supporting Characters)

Charlie Horse - Animated Pilot (New Supporting Characters)

Project Overview

Welcome to Urbanopolis—a shining metropolis where towering skylines meet endless opportunity, and where it’s said that your greatest aspirations are only a few steps away.

Lifelong underdogs and best friends Charlie and Douglas arrive in the big city with high hopes of making it big. Charlie was once a rising star on the racetrack before a crash-and-burn cost him his career, while Douglas left behind his aristocratic upbringing to chase a life of his own choosing. Now broke and stuck in a rundown apartment, the duo takes on odd jobs, hare-brained schemes, and chaotic detours—all in the name of keeping the lights on and the rent paid.

Along for the ride are Boris Bear, their gruff landlord, and Sophie Squirrel, their nutty neighbor, both of whom complicate—and occasionally support—the duo’s journey through the highs and lows of city life. Together, this motley crew proves that no matter how many times life knocks you down, friendship always brings you back up.

Audition Info:

First off, a huge thanks to everyone who’s submitted an audition—your reads have been a blast to hear. If yours hasn’t been viewed yet, no worries: our team will listen to every single audition before making decisions.

    Casting updates:

Douglas Dog: As mentioned, we’ve been considering a local actor while keeping the role open. We’ve received a few reads/tests from him and are seeing if he’s the right fit. If the role opens up again (or not), we’ll let you know within the next week.

New Supporting Roles: Two fresh faces are joining the fray—Rebecca Rabbit and Henry Hedgehog—plus an upcoming casting for Urbanopolis Extras (more details coming soon).

Thanks again for your time, talent, and enthusiasm—can’t wait to hear more!

Huge thanks to everyone who’s auditioned for Charlie and Douglas so far—some fantastic reads are already rolling in. Those roles will continue to stay open for a while longer, so keep them coming.

Once a rising star on the racetrack, Charlie's career came to a screeching halt after a major crash left his future in ruins. Now bitter, broke, and trying to keep a low profile, he masks his lingering ambition with dry sarcasm and a “why bother” attitude. Despite his cynicism, Charlie’s loyalty runs deep, and when push comes to shove, he always shows up—especially for Douglas.

  • Can lean into deadpan humor, but must have emotional range for moments of genuine concern, shouting, and slapstick pain
  • Pay close attention to the audition linesbrackets indicate tone, actions, or emotional context to guide your delivery.
  • Note: The first audition line plays into Douglas’s (and vice versa)

Me too") You realize that's a bad thing, right? ("maybe this just means something even better is waiting for us!" ) Or we're about to lose our apartment. This is serious!

  • (sleeping, slowly waking up) Ugghh. Mmm. Huh? (sees alarm clock) Oh no. (Frantically getting ready) Douglas! Wake up! We overslept—we’ve got ten minutes to be at work! MOVE!

  • (working at a power plant) (fake confidence, muttering) Alright. I got this. I rewired a toaster once. This is just a... bigger toaster. What’s the worst that could happen? (touches the wires together) (electrocuted, screaming, and glitching) GYYAAAHHHHHZZZZZTTTBBZZZZZZTTTT—!!... (stiffly, teeth buzzing) Uugh. My bad.

Douglas grew up surrounded by wealth and prestige, but turned his back on the aristocratic life to forge his own path. Cheerful, theatrical, and wildly optimistic, he dives into every new scheme with wide-eyed energy—often dragging Charlie along whether he likes it or not. While he doesn’t quite know where he’s headed, Douglas is sure it’ll be fabulous!

  • Medium-high pitch with a bright, buoyant timbre. Douglas is all in, all the time.
  • Accent is open to interpretation—General American works, but hints of possible European roots are welcome.

That makes us, like, job-loss twins! ("You know that's a bad thing, right?") *scoffs* Bad, shmad. We always bounce back. You know, maybe this just means something even better is waiting for us!

  • (Slowly getting more and more excited) Oh, come on! You just need some cheering up first. You know what cheers me up? Ice cream! Or... karaoke! Or—oh! Pancakes! With. PEANUT BUTTER! That ALWAYS helps!

  • (Working a jackhammer) (optimistic, cautious) Okay… just a little tap—(Coaxing) C’mon, don’t be shy. Sophie Squirrel (Lead)
open
Paid: Flat Rate 100 USD

Sophie Squirrel is Charlie and Douglas’s overly affectionate, nut-obsessed neighbor who never seems to run out of energy—or pastries. She’s endlessly chatty, wildly unpredictable, and more than happy to insert herself into any situation involving her two favorite bachelors. While most neighbors avoid her, Charlie and Douglas have learned to (mostly) tolerate her... and even rely on her more than they’d like to admit.

  • High pitch, bright and bubbly, with a musical lilt that can jump to squeaks when excited.
  • Retro-American vibe (think vintage sitcom mom); fast-talking but always crystal-clear.
  • Improv is highly encouraged—go nuts with it! Sophie’s meant to feel unpredictable and unhinged (in the best way).
  • Sudden mood shifts and unexpected vocal choices are welcome—she can go from giggly to dramatic to overly sincere in seconds.
  • Pay close attention to the audition lines—brackets indicate tone, actions, or emotional context to guide your delivery.
  • What made you want to audition for this series—or this character in particular? We’d love to hear why, either in your audition or in the description!

  • (cheerful and sing-songy) WHOO'S HUNGRYYY?! I knew you boys needed a pick-me-up, so I whipped up a fresh batch of my world-famous walnut-almond-hazelnut-pecan-macadamia-chestnut-berry-buckwheat-banana muffins!

  • (overly enthusiastic, mile-a-minute) So! What's the ruckus, boys? I heard a whole lotta roaring and thudding, and I thought, "Mercy me, is someone being eaten up here?" And if they are, I just had to pop by to save the day—or at least bring baked goods to the crime scene. (“Boris... rent... eviction..”) (gasping) Eviction?! Oh, honeybuns, not my darling boys! No, no, no, that won’t do! I simply won't have it! Who else is gonna eat all my baking triumphs?! You know what this calls for? A plan! A Sophie-certified, foolproof, tried-and-true, slightly risky-but-always-has-heart plan!

  • (proud, commericial-like voice) Behold! Hop to the Top Career Counseling! Only the finest, fastest, most "get-your-life-together" place this side of Urbanopolis! They’ll fix you boys up real quick, yes sirree bob! (flirtatiously at Charlie) Who knows, maybe they’ll just hire you to stand there lookin’ pretty. Giddy up, stallion!

Boris Bear (Lead)

Paid: Flat Rate 100 USD

Gruff, loud, and always just a few seconds from blowing a gasket, Boris is the long-suffering landlord of Charlie and Douglas’s building—and one of the few things standing between them and total collapse. He constantly threatens to kick them out for late rent (and means it every time), but somehow, they’re still there. Whether he's growling from the hallway or barging into the latest disaster, Boris only ever gets involved for one reason: to make sure the rent gets paid.

  • Meant to have a thick Russian accent, and the lines reflect that—but feel free to play around with it and find what feels natural.
  • Low pitch with a thick, growly tone—he’s got presence and volume, even when muttering under his breath
  • Gruff, curt delivery with sudden bursts of booming outrage; still capable of soft, reluctant warmth.
  • Moderate pacing; every word lands like a gavel, but never drags.
  • Pay close attention to the audition lines—brackets indicate tone, actions, or emotional context to guide your delivery.
  • What made you want to audition for this series—or for Boris in particular? We'd love to know either in the audition or description!

  • (booming, angry) CHARLIE! DOUGLAS! WHERE IS RENT?!

  • (slowly getting angrier) Tell me, do you see problem? You are several weeks behind! I am not running charity—this is business. No money? No apartment!

  • (cocksure) Ohoho! Look at you two—already going downhill and day’s barely started. You two start new job today, yes? I see you'll be making dramatic entrance—late AND in pain. Very on-brand! I give you one shift before you burn whole place to cinders.

Paid: Flat Rate 100 USD

Rebecca is a sharp-tongued career counselor who lives off sarcasm, coffee, and the occasional victory over hopeless résumés. When Charlie and Douglas stumble into her office with a disaster of a job history, she’s skeptical, but something in her sparks—this is her ultimate challenge. Confident, witty, and fueled by “stronger stuff” in her coffee mug, Rebecca won’t take no for an answer once she’s decided to whip someone into shape.

  • Crisp, precise, quick-witted delivery with a medium to mid-high feel—she thinks fast and speaks clean.

  • Pay close attention to the audition lines—brackets indicate tone, actions, or emotional context to guide your delivery.

  • What made you want to audition for this series—or this character in particular? We’d love to hear why, either in your audition or in the description!

  • (upbeat promo read) “Hop to the Top Career Counseling—polish your résumé, sharpen your pitch, and leap into work that actually fits. Book today and let’s turn potential into progress.”

  • (dryly) “Wow.” (beat) “I’m impressed.” (warmer) “Truly—few candidates demonstrate such consistent… exit-velocity across so many industries.” (leans in, friendly but firm) “Tell me—is this some kind of game to you? From where I’m sitting, it reads like you’re trying to get fired. And yet here you are at my desk asking for a career rescue.” (claps once, brisk) “Ten words or less: your mission, your method, your value. Go.”

  • (Charlie and Douglas stand to leave) (tsk) “Oh, I am just too nice. Sit.” (gestures to chairs) “Here’s the play: Quillsadillas—fast-casual, high tempo, actively hiring. Back each other up and you might make it past five minutes… or, you know, double the chaos. You’re on the schedule tomorrow for 8 a.m. (pops up, ushers them with the clipboard, opens the door) “Fantastic chat— now out you go, champions. I need a triple espresso and a miracle—preferably in that order.” [door click]

Constantly overwhelmed and juggling more than he can handle, Henry is desperate for employees—so desperate, in fact, that he's willing to give just about anyone a chance, even if they come with a reputation for chaos. While he may be jittery, nervous, and prone to nervous muttering, Henry tries his best to keep things running smoothly, even when things spiral out of control.

  • Frazzled, harried delivery; words tumble out in bursts when stressed.

  • Balances frantic energy with moments of genuine warmth—he means well even when he stumbles.

  • (brisk, friendly-but-frazzled) “Alright, you two will split duties—register, grill, and dining area. If a customer’s talking, you’re listening; if the line’s growing, you’re moving. Oh—and the ice cream machine is broken, so if anyone asks? Offer a churro and a smile.”

  • (stepping out of office) “Hey hey, just checking in to see how you’re settlin’ in and—OH MY GOD.” (screams as Charlie tackles him to the ground) “WHY IS THE ICE CREAM MACHINE ALIIIVE?!
