Campfire Friends Webtoon Dub (Fan-Made)
Project Overview
A dub of the Korean Webtoon Campfire Friends.
Official description:
After another soul-crushing day at the office, Chaesu wakes up inside the world of Campfire Friends, a cartoon he used to watch as a child. As he spends more time with his colorful woodland pals every night, he begins to regain his lost childhood innocence. But behind their cheery kindness hides a chilling secret...
---
Summary: After receiving a series of strange and very persistent emails with a QR code on them, Chaesu scans one of them and wakes up in the world of his favourite childhood cartoon, Campfire Friends. But the more he visits Campfire Town, the stranger things get. It's almost as if it wants him to stay forever. That offer is seeming more and more enticing, though, because the deeper he goes into this cartoon world, the more his life in the real world gets dismantled.
If there were anything I'd compare Campfire Friends to, it'd be Coraline.
Whether you love the comic, think this premise is interesting, or simply want to be part of a voice acting project, there are plenty of reasons to put your hat in the ring!
Any other minor characters will either be assigned to voice actors or cast outside of this call. If you've read the comic and know of a minor character not listed here that you'd like to voice, let me know!
Reading the comic beforehand is recommended, although not required.
A disgruntled office worker who finds himself in the world of his childhood cartoon whenever he sleeps. He is the protagonist of the comic and is in most scenes.
Chaesu is a 32 year old man with a less than stealar look on life. He's taken advantage of at his job and, though he is certainly very far from winning the best husband or father of the year award, is treated poorly at home. He can experience happiness, he certainly does whenever he visits the world of Campfire Friends, but for the most part he's what you'd call a grump.
While this is very far into the story, and so I won't ask you to do this in the audition, please have some capacity to do sheep noises.

*sigh* I could’ve finished much sooner if Junu hadn’t spilled coffee everywhere.
So that’s why there are no other people here. No wonder I felt so at peace.
You know, Ripplet… you remind me of my son.
A friendly tortoise and one of characters part of the Campfire Friends cartoon. Arguably the most major character apart from Chaesu himself. Notably, he is the favourite character of Chaesu, the protagonist. Major role.
Ripplet is... friendly, to say the least. He is very clingy and quite frankly obsessed with Chaesu. He has a childlike personality but is more intelligent than you would expect (though, at the end of the day, he is still a cartoon character at heart). The tortoise is emotionally manipulative, but just wants Chaesu to be happy (and to be always with him).
Despite this description, most of his lines would not be presented in an emotionally deranged way. You can either do a full-on child voice, or a child-like adult voice (hence the listing being both male young adult and male child).

But it’s okay. I’m not alone anymore.
Evil Mihui! How could she say something like that, when all you do is work hard for your family?
No one’s going to bother you here. I’ll make sure of that.
A big, friendly, pink bear. If you ignore his immeasurable strength and his obsession with keeping the cartoon world exactly the same, you could even call him adorable! He is a major role
Berry Bear is a character who’s untrustworthy from the start. Thanks to his terrifying strength, he’s become the leader of the Campfire Friends and no one dares to question his authority. Although he puts on a very friendly face, there’s always something off-putting about him

I’m sorry… I’m not very good at controlling my strength.
The Campfire never goes out… ever
When do you want to do the hanging this time?
A very silly dragon who loves his friends a lot. One of the few Campfire Friends who aren't scary and the only actually innocent one. He is a major role.
Larmy is full of energy, absolutely full of it. He loves adventuring, his friends, and especially flowers. But, unfortunately, his memory has gone a little dull. There's a sense of tragedy to his innocence. The more you see the story progress, the more his purity becomes a source of sadness.
Larmy can either be both interpreted as a child-like adult or as a literal child. Hence why he is both listed as male young adult, and male child.

Sorry. It goes off by itself when my heart starts racing…
I love hiding in the other’s houses and surprising them. It’s a hobby of mine.
Larmy absolutely *adored* flowers and nature!
An energetic squirrel who loves scamming people. He works for himself, and only for himself. Supporting role.
Chestnut loves two things: exercise and acorns. He runs the Anything Tree, essentially a pawn shop where the currency is acorns. While he is certainly a selfish person, he does seem to care about his friends deep down. Chestnut is the smallest of the Campfire Friends, though he wants to work on that fact.
Voice should be high pitched to reflect his size.

Looks like you need to work on your core muscles, little acorn!
Top of the acorn to ya, Berry Bear!
Welcome, ladies and gentle-nuts, to the Anything Tree!
A farming sloth who loves nothing more than her kiwis. Supporting role.
Kiwi is polite to an extreme level. To the point where she calls everyone, no matter their status, Mr. or Ms. She's a little shy, but she's mostly just friendly. Apart from her kiwi farm, nothing else matters in her life (though, she does love and appreciate her friends). She even calls her kiwis her babies.

What’s that foul stench in my sweet kiwi farm?
Aaah! I can’t hold myself back anymore!
A house wife who’s incredibly annoyed with her husband. Supporting role, only present in Real Life scenes
Despite being constantly angry and disappointed with Chaesu, Mihui is shown to be a sociable and nice woman. Her frustration comes from years of neglect and is quite understandable.

He’s just a kid… accidents happen. Why would you yell at him?!
You were mumbling so much in you sleep last night… I went and slept in Junu’s room
The son of Chaesu Yu. Kind of a brat, but mostly a good kid at heart. Supporting role, only present in Real Life scenes.
Junu is a 6 year old boy who absolutely loves dinosaurs and wishes his father would pay more attention to him. At times, his attention seeking behaviour can come off as horrible, but it’s clear he loves his dad.

Swooosh. Oh no! It’s the cranky monster with bags under his eyes!
Okay… Daddy, can you read me the dinosaur book like you used to?
A mysterious voice that narrates various happenings in Campfire Town. Supporting role.
No one seems to hear the narrator apart from Chaesu himself. It's a little odd, but what's not odd in the world of Campfire Friends? Typical cartoon narrator.

Welcome to Campfire Town!
Emergency! Emergency! An outsider is trying to get in!
A hairstylist and old college friend of Chaesu. Minor role in season 1 and a major role in season 2
This is arguably the only role that requires a spoiler to understand. In the last few episodes of season 1, we find out that Minsu just lost his son, Ajun. Beforehand, Minsu is a very happy and energetic man, though a little unaware of Chaesu's hatred for him. But afterwards, he is utterly broken and wants nothing more than to see his son again.
Requires emotional voice acting.
