Bugscrew is a thriller/horror adventurous indie show meant to follow two groups (one group per season) of survivors desperate to make it in an infested mutant bugpocolapse! Together the group combine their unique fighting styles and go through mental hardships to hopefully create a cure and find more about the bugs… maybe they’re not entirely as they seem?
This pilot will be worked on after my current animated pilot for my other series is out, but the script is ready!

# Yesenia Cato
Yesenia is another middle aged mother trying to survive alongside her young son Mateo. She wields an axe and leads the Season 2 cast just as Ethel did for the others. Unlike Ethel however, she is more calculated, callous and on edge. She despises Ethel but as a fellow mother manages to sympathize with her cause. Her bug inspiration and battle style is an assassin bug, wanting to execute swiftly and with few swings.
Voice claim/insporation: Carmilla Carmine (Hazbin Hotel)
Voice description: Raspy and passive aggressive when she speaks. Her voice is meant to be older, clearly wiser like Ethel is.

(Agitated) “Because you came to my group, baby in hand claiming to be able to help us! Yet you have done nothing but put us in harms way!”
(Tired) “All we have done is run, if you want me to place trust in some woman who has randomly shown up, you are A FOOL!”
(Tearing up while trying to remain strong. BE EMOTIONAL HERE!) “God please hear me and forgive me for what I am about to do! I’ll endure damnation if it means sparing my son from suffering… Mateo I’m sorry I have failed as a mother and a protector…”
Gauge is a niave fresh out of high school student. He is known for his upbeat personality and innovation, such as creating his robo-bug companion Blip-Bot! He sees the best in everyone and likes to run wild with imagination! His character is based off the Ironclad beetle as he fights defensively with armor and robotic weaponry!
Voice Claim/Insporation: Varian (Tangled)
Voice description: Younger, niave and more energetic! Basically like an anime protagonist but without that perverted stuff since we are not having any of that.

(Excited) “Yes yes yes yes! Booyah! I told you it would work! Never doubt the gaugester-! (Pause) Oh… is this uh not the right time?”
(Focused) “That’s weird… the circuit board was fried… not even the most powerful acid produced by the mutants could fry this? Perhaps it wasn’t acid after all?”
(casual) yep! Gauge, very fitting to my talent isn’t it? My dad named me if you’re wondering! …oh his name? Gear! Like the machinery… pretty stereotypical though huh?”
Pyaari is a steampunked themed bird lady! She likes to fight with ranged armed weaponry while remaining graceful! She is useful for scouting with her bird Adina and admires the beauty of their world even during an apocalypse. Her design and personality is based off the Cuckoo wasp!

Voice description: softer and serene, she’s meant to be calming to the listener

(Softer) “Are you sure it is vengeance you seek? Or perhaps you wish for closure. Violence doesn’t Warrant that.”
(Serious) “Adina has scouted the path overhead, There’s a whole swarm colony slumbering. We may be able to fight one but not a whole group.”
(Happy) “Yes, my bird and I have grown a mutual understanding. I Raised her from a fallen nest as a baby, since then she has sworn loyalty.”
Oh boy where do I even start? McGraw (also known as Grandpa to the others) is a man purely alive out of spite, he fights from the sidelines using his modified cane shotgun to kill bugs with loaded pesticide bullets. He is not kind or close to any of the other members but they do respect his experience and sometimes wisdom. McGraw’s character is based off the Bullet Ant

Voice Direction: Literally an aggressive old grandpa, that’s his character

(Angry) “I need my reading glasses… I TOLD THEM DAMN KIDS TO GET OFF THE LAWN DIDN’T I?”
(In thought) “Back in my day, I didn’t pull no ladies- (pause) NO I WASN’T GAY, I THREW MYSELF INTO WAR, WAR I SAY. I CAME BACK A HARDENED FUCKING KILLING MACHINE!”
(Clearly annoyed) “No I don’t like you, git your lanky self AWAY FROM ME!”
Dottie out of the whole group is probably the most emotionally grounded. Known as a therapist before the outbreak, she helps keep the group in check and unwillingly listens to all of their problems which takes a toll on her later on. Overall, she is a very artsy and independent person otherwise. She is based off the pink grasshopper!

Voice description: Sweeter younger adult that gives a sense of well innocence and serenity.

(Frustrated) “Because all I do is listen to everyone else ramble about their issues alright?! Like come on even a therapist needs a therapist!”
(Confused) “I don’t mean to pry but uhm… whose baby is that? Listen listen I’m not making accusations but it’s clearly not yours!”
(Tired) “Bug fighting again? Fineeee I guess… as long as we can stop by the abandoned craft store on the way back.”
Devereux is the strong silent type of the group. Originally coming here for vacation away from home, he had to learn to adapt to not only the apocalypse but a new country entirely. Devereux is typically seen reading and learning about the world’s histories, hence why he collects books along his journeys. Out of all the members, he entertains the idea of a cure the most. His character is based off a Rhinoceros Beetle.

Voice description: Deeper and older voice, but can speak heartily and casually. Please god do not make him sound like he’s out of one of those thirst trap BF asmr’s

(Smoking a cigarette) “Mmm… yeah they kill your lungs but what’s it matter when the worlds already ending. Besides, I’d rather have the few moments of relief rather than constantly being beaten down by reality.”
(Surprised) “I didn’t think a baby would live this far during the end. Poor thing isn’t even conscious enough to understand what world she’s growing up into.”
(Scoff) “So what Yesenia? More people we have, better protection we have. You told us safety is by numbers didn’t you? Give the lady a chance, she’s a mother just like you.
(Forgive me that he is the only character without a picture, he couldn’t fit in the drawing) Mateo is the young son of Yesenia. He is naive, curious and still holds onto the childlike hope that the world isn’t completely in ruin. Although he clings to his mom like a lifeline, he is willing to help the cause in restoring the world with a cure. His bug is based off the one in the picture (yes quiet a lot of beetles, but that is on purpose)
Voice claim/inspiration: Sean Diaz (Life is strange 2)
Voice description: He is a younger child/kid, I do not mind casting someone younger for this role for that reason. He is supposed to sound naive, have that childlike whimsy to explore the world

(Excited) “The team helps form games for me! Keeps me occupied while they’re busy doing whatever adults do. They’re sad all the time and it’s such a mood killer..”
(Panicked) “What?! Oh no no I cannot go against my Mom’s back, she’s going to kill me before the bugs do are you crazy?!”
(Upset) “Well that’s not fair! I want to fight bugs and be useful too! I’m not just some sort of burden you carry with you!”
Ethel is a middle aged sword smith and grieving mother. During the groups formation in the apocalypse she takes on the role of leader to keep the group productive. Viewing the group as her new family, she swears to kill all the mutant bugs and keep them safe. Due to her status as a widow and her preference to use blade, her representative bug is a Praying Mantis.

Voice description: Middle aged, Leader-like Motherly figure, her voice is meant to be commanding majority of the time but can be able to show vulnerability.

(Soothing/Calmer) “Nobody knows how much time we have left, that is why it’s best we make the most of what we do have.”
(Yelling) “We must kill her before it harms you or your baby! Get out of here now!”
Jasper is the muscle of the group and a struggling widowed father to his daughter Cecily. He spends his time training to become stronger for his brother Jubilee, his daughter and the rest of the group to make up for his felt inadequacies as a person. He is scared for what this new cruel world will present for his daughter, so for now all he can do is shield her as much as he can. Due to his offense and ruthlessness and combat, his representative bug is a wasp.
Voice claim/inspiration: Harrow (The Dragon Prince) (This claim is iffy though)
Voice Direction: Masculine and resonating, (I’d prefer if his voice was deeper or had any rasp due to his injuries affecting his vocal cords slightly). Being able to scream or show heavy emotions IS MASSIVE FOR JASPER.

(About to cry, BE EMOTIONAL HERE) “It’s okay baby, Don’t look at me. Daddy’s just hurting a little that’s all, it’ll be all over for me soon…”
Kidera is the rash and outcasted member of the Bugscrew crew. She’s typically hostile, withdrawn and refusing to get to know any of the other members. After running away from home, her only wish is to see her family again and not spend her days with a group of people she deems too fake to keep around. She’s typically a lot meaner due to the aforementioned reasons, so you’ll have to (put it lightly) be a bitch a good portion of the time. Her character design and fighting style is based off the Black Widow Spider, hence why she’s a trap specialist.
Voice Claim/Inspiration: Riley Poverly (Oxenfree 2) Preferably with a Spanish accent
Voice description: Young female adult preferably with some sort of Spanish accent, she’s known to be temperamental, yell and swear. But her voice is rasp and down to earth normally.

(Annoyed) “I’m already up Mantis, you do not need to drag me out of bed this time.”
(Angry) “HIM? ARE YOU SHITTING ME?! He cannot fight and you expect me to what?! Babysit him?!”
(Calmer while playing guitar) “This is one of the few things that keep me sane down here… it gives me a sense of humanity in a world that stripped it away the day I was born.”
Jubilee is the socially inept scientist and bug nerd of the group. Although not a fighter and scared of the world around him, he is the most knowledgeable of the apocalypse and wants to focus on making a cure to return all the mutant bugs back to normal. Without his brother Jasper, he is essentially scared to interact with the group otherwise, fearing backlash or getting into his feelings. Although he is softer and emotionally intelligent compared to the others. His design and character is based off the Honeybee since he does what is told and is purposed to benefit/help others, Hence why he is the nurse and scientist.
Voice claim: Aaravos (The Dragon Prince) Without any of the playful banter implications, the deep etherealness is what I want.
Voice description: Deep ethereal voice, meant to be the lowest of the whole cast. He speaks quieter at times but he is meant to sound kind and comforting.

(Genuine) “But you’re not afraid to be yourself, that’s what I like about you. In this world you choose to speak your mind rather than let the others silence it, I can respect that.”
(Worried) “Yes but if we get any louder we’ll potentially alert the bugs over head!”
(Startled before turning casual) “O-oh, Jasper it’s just you! Can you at least knock on my lab door next time and give a heads up?”
Mavarie is the childish and more energetic member of the cast. She seeks chaos with explosives and colorful fashion. She desperately seeks friendships with the other cast who either treat her like a child or outright fear her unhingedness. She holds everyone else to a pedestal and gets upset when anyone steps out of her picture perfect version of what kind of person she figures them to be. Oh yeah shes a cat lover and has a cat named Blockbuster Perwinkle C4 (Yes she named it). despite her chaotic fighting style with explosives, her appearance and life before the apocalypse as a model connects to her bug character design being a butterfly.
Voice Claim/Inspiration: Spinel (Steven Universe) Or Cherry Blossom Cookie (Cookie Run Kingdom)
Voice Direction: Higher pitched and high energy, get used to being chaotic, being very cheery and of course yelling. She does act childish at times too.

(Groans) “Yall are no fun!!! A small boom doesn’t hurt anyone!”
(Happy) “Now that I have a new furry best friend… I can stylize him however I want! Blockbuster Periwinkle C4, you’re going to be the most handsomest cat the bugs ever saw!”
Hayashi is the management/second authority of the group, he spends his time creating narcotics and new effective poisons for his weapons and maintaining the greenhouse. He is very monotone, preferring not to entertain any non logical antics of the others and take the best statical approaches. This leads to him hiding any emotion he actually has in favor of guaranteeing survival. He is quiet, and swift hence why his main bug in his design/personality is a dragonfly!
Voice Claim/inspiration: Aki Hayakawa (Chainsaw Man)
Voice description: Monotone and not heavily expressive. He is meant to be taken seriously and sound logical/calculated)

(Blunt) “Your emotional outbursts are more of a liability, I’d rather not risk it by partnering with you.”
(Calculating) “We’ll need to raid pharmacies on the way back, we’re out of painkillers and isopropyl alcohol.”
(Trying to stay calm) “Because winter is coming, and at this rate I don’t know if we’ll all make it this time. Not with this many mouths to feed.”
