BIONICLE: Quest for the Masks (A Gacha Club Movie)
Project Overview
Gathered friends, welcome to the legend of the Bionicle, and the island of Mata Nui.
Before the beginning of time, the island of Mata Nui was a tropical paradise - until the shadow entity known as the Makuta arrived, transforming it into a land of darkness and evil. The natives of the island, the Matoran, and their leaders, the Turaga, have waited and hoped for heroes who would conquer the Makuta and save their home.
Now their waiting has come to an end. Six mighty warriors known as the Toa have arrived on Mata Nui. Each Toa controls a force of nature - fire, water, air, ice, stone and earth. But to triumph over Makuta, they must collect the Kanohi - the Great Masks of Power, which give them greater skills, abilities and wisdom.
Finding the masks will take great courage, for the Makuta controls the land, sea and sky of Mata Nui. He also commands a host of terrible creatures known as Rahi, as well as the Manas - fierce predators that no single Toa can withstand.
If the Toa hope to win, they must find and master the power of the masks.
Come, adventurer. Join the Toa on their quest! Find the power! Live the legend!
Tahu (pronounced TAH-hoo) is the courageous Toa of Fire; he is guardian and master of heat. He is the de facto leader of the Toa, but also the fiercest and most feared. His flaming temper makes him hot headed and irrational at times, and he often jumps into a situation without thinking, getting himself and the other Toa into a predicament. His ideas sometimes clash with Kopaka's, however the two have a mutual respect for each other.

This could be important. Take it to Turaga Vakama. AFTER you’ve won the Copper Mask, that is. Then no more “sightseeing.”
This is where we begin our final task. If any of you question our choices, or doubt our chances of working together, speak now!
Then let Makuta tremble this day. We stand together, until Mata Nui is free!
Gali (pronounced GAH-lee) is the noble Toa of Water. Although considered the wisest and most peaceful of the group, Gali still has an edge to her; she has a slight temper, though not to the degree of Tahu or Kopaka. She strongly believes in upholding the three Matoran virtues; unity, duty and destiny. However, she is restrictive in using her powers, believing that fighting is not the answer to all conflicts.

Well brothers, I suppose that's enough talk of the past. We should start discussing what comes next, yes? For despite all the interesting elemental powers we may have, I expect that our best weapon is our minds.
Stay your claws, Onua! It is the Chronicler and his company! Little one, you are brave indeed, to have come all this way.
Your dreams are as grand as these trees, Lewa. I hope they do not come crashing down around you.
Lewa (pronounced LEE-wah) is the agile Toa of Air. As with most Le-Matoran and Turaga Matau, Lewa often uses humour to lighten up a situation. He can be very impulsive at times, often getting himself into trouble, however he maintains an adventurous nature and is a good friend to all the Toa.
Lewa also sometimes combines words while speaking to form a new word which fits the meaning of what he's talking about, a trait that all Le-Matoran share, known as Rootspeak.

Now, now! What's that for? You and Ash bear got no wrong-quarrel? Just doing her duty. If this was your home-realm, you'd do the same.
Underwater. The Mask of Speed is underwater. How incredibly annoying... but it's not a problem. I can bear-handle it. A walk in a cavern... a swim in the water... a fast swim... and a very, very large monster. (backflips out of the way and fells a large tree, crushing the monster) Ordinarily, I'd love to stay and speak-chat, but I can see you're just cover-buried.
Wait, Tahu! Have you given no judge-thought to our return? If the Rahi attack the temple while we are below, how can we free-escape?
Kopaka (pronounced koh-PAH-kah) is the powerful Toa of Ice. He is serious, cold and analytical like his element, and prefers to work alone rather than team up. To many, it appears that Kopaka's cold side is all there is to him. But underneath this steely exterior, he is a loyal guardian with a caring heart, and will risk everything to protect his home, Matoran, Turaga, and his fellow Toa. He is especially protective of the Ko-Matoran, believing that exposing them to danger is not the deed of a responsible Toa.

It moves. (in response to Takua suggesting his survival was luck) Uh-uh, not luck. It's what you DO that makes you a hero.
Alright, come along. After all, I might need a mountain moved... or the island lifted.
I have doubted you in the past, Tahu, but no more. So I cast my sword with yours, if you will have it.
Pohatu (pronounced poh-HAH-too) is the mighty Toa of Stone. Always one of the friendlier of the Toa, Pohatu is always happy to see the team come together and put aside their internal fights. He is regarded as the most loyal and reliable team member, with such a good sense of humour that even Kopaka can't help liking him. Pohatu is also a fierce fighter, especially when he feels the weak are being threatened. He is always considerate and nice to fellow Toa, Turaga and Matoran, and acts as somewhat of a consultant for the other Toa.

You two. Still so ill at ease? Put your petty differences aside! Rejoice!
In truth it is said that great power can be found in small packages, and that aid can come from places least expected. And besides, we have few options.
Listen, I have a feeling that we're both here for the same reason. Why not team up? It might make things easier.
Onua (pronounced oh-NOO-ah) is the wise Toa of Earth. In the dimly lit underground passages of Onu-Koro, Onua sees well thanks to his great night vision and his sense for vibration. He digs quickly with huge powerful claws. He is intelligent but quiet, even allowing the other Toa to split while knowing it's a mistake. He has good relations with the rest of the team, especially Pohatu. He often does not speak unless he has something important to say.

Oh, Pohatu! Look around you. Mining has never been better. Oh, you should join me at it some time. Try doing a REAL job! Say, how goes the carving?
I am here for a reason, but I don't know why... yet. What do these legends say?
Your speed and my digging create a trench to catch the lava flow so it doesn't harm the island. Tahu couldn't have done better.
Turaga Vakama (pronounced va-KAH-mah) is Turaga of Ta-Koro and the protector of Tahu's legend. He is famous for his quick temper and great courage, regardless of the odds. He has little time for nonsense and practical jokes, and his fearlessness can seem a little impulsive or even foolish to outsiders.
- english
I am Vakama. I am Turaga of this village. I am the legend keeper, the Takara leader, he of the Great Fire Staff who farms the Mangai's burning core. Have your aimless wonderings caused you to forget everything?
Perfect. While Jaller makes history, you will record it. And soon, we will have another great chapter to add to our wall.
I know the answers you seek, Toa of Stone, though I wish I did not. We have known the legend of the Bohrok for centuries, and we prayed they were only that: legends. But the Bohrok are real... all too real.
Turaga Nokama (pronounced no-KAH-mah) is Turaga of Ga-Koro and the protector of Gali's legend, and knows more about the oceans and rivers than anyone but Gali herself. Nokama has a reputation for bringing the Turaga together and resolving disagreements with her practical logic. All of the Turaga respect the way she listens to all sides of any discussion.
- english
Gali is the Toa of Water, the great hero of Ga-Koro. Like the other Toa, she descended from the heavens to save us from the Makuta. She is wise, strong and quick.
The Toa's recent victories are a blessing. But they've forgotten how much they need each other.
The way to the Kini-Nui lies behind the waterfall near our village. It is likely that Macku can find a boat to get through the falls. You will find her in her hut.
Turaga Matau (pronounced mat-OW) is Turaga of Le-Koro and the protector of Lewa's legend. He is like the silence at the centre of a tornado when he is among his people; calm, stable and paternal. But in truth, he should be watched carefully unless you want to be the victim of one his jokes. He is also a brave warrior and a leader who receives the utmost of loyalty. The tribe repays him with great courage.
- english
I am Matau, called the Singer by the people of Le-Koro. I am their Turaga. I have been imprisoned here since leafdawn.
Take care, and do your work without resistance. Nui-Rama are not clever, but they see much. They know when we are plotting.
Traveler, it is good to see you again after all our adventures! Our return to treebright Le-Koro was so long-hoped for in the darkwet Rama hive!
Turaga Nuju (pronounced NOO-joo) is Turaga of Ko-Koro and the protector of Kopaka's legend. Some find Nuju aloof and uncaring, but nothing could be further form the truth. It's just that he does not show his feelings easily, only showing his true self through his generous deeds. Nuju has great sight, and seems to have more time to react than anybody else.
Note: The lines for this audition are the few times Nuju speaks in his own voice. The rest of the time, Nuju speaks the language of the bird Rahi in memory of a friend of his, Kualus, and relies on an interpreter, Matoro, to communicate.

You are Kopaka, who wields the power of winter itself. You saved one of your people, with no thought to your own safety. You are the one we have waited for.
This island, Mata Nui - and these mountains - are your home. You can ride the ice and snow... unleash the avalanche... freeze with just a touch...
We call them Nui Rama. When they wear infected masks, they are servants of the Makuta, and only one of the dangers you will face.
Turaga Onewa (pronounced oh-NEE-wah) is Turaga of Po-Koro and the protector of Pohatu's legend. He is known among his closest friends in his cheerful and informal tribe as "the referee", as he sometimes seems to take ages to make a decision, but is never to be argued with once he has decided. Like all of his tribe, he is sure footed and swift over loose ground.

I am Onewa, Turaga of the village of Po-Koro. The Matoran here are master carvers, and their work is the envy of all of Mata Nui. But today I am not carving works of art. Instead, I am fashioning beds.
Ah, I don't think you quite understand, Tahu. This Toa will not simply wash up on the shore in a canister as you and the others did. This Toa must be FOUND.
I have heard of your mission. You are seeking Matoran to join your Company. These are trying times, and it is hard to part with even my least able craftsmen, but nonetheless I know of the importance of your task.
Turaga Whenua (pronounced when-OO-ah) is Turaga of Onu-Koro and the protector of Onua's legend. He is known to all on Mata Nui for his fairness and good judgement, and the honest wisdom of his words. He guides work in the vast complex tunnels and the quarry, always seeing problems a day before they occur. He should be listened to with care and respect.
- english
I am Whenua, Turaga of Onu-Koro. It is my job to keep things running smoothly around here. A hard task in these difficult times.
The legends told us you would come. We - the islanders of Mata Nui - have been waiting for a very long time for you to arrive!
I have been expecting you, traveller. You are here to find Matoran that might join your quest. It is a hard choice, since the Rahi have been massing underground, and will attack us at any moment!
(Note: Although Takua is canonically male, I have left the role open to both male and female actors, since female actors, at least in my personal opinion, can do very convincing "young boy" voices, and I didn't want any prospective female actors to be put off by the character's canonical gender.)
Takua (pronounced tah-KOO-ah) is an adventurous and inquisitive Ta-Matoran with a tendency to wander off in search of stories, giving him the nickname of the Chronicler. After unwittingly activating the six Toa Stones at Kini-Nui, he ends up summoning the Toa to the island and finds himself wrapped up in a battle against swarms of Rahi that takes him to all six regions of the island. Takua will discover many things in his travels, as well a certain secret about himself...
- english
I have come with Nuparu, an engineer from Onu-Koro. He has devised a machine called Boxor that can stand up to the Bohrok.
Touch one mask on their heads, beasts, and you'll have to deal with ME! If you mean to destroy us, beasts, get on with it! Otherwise, SHOO!!
Err... I DO say something... I say... Hail Jaller! All hail Jaller! Herald of the Seventh Toa!
(Note: Although Jaller is canonically male, I have left the role open to both male and female actors, since female actors, at least in my personal opinion, can do very convincing "young boy" voices, and I didn't want any prospective female actors to be put off by the character's canonical gender.)
Jaller (pronounced JAH-lah) is the Captain of the Guard of Ta-Koro and the right hand of Turaga Vakama. He is careful to consider all courses of action before doing anything, and makes sure his teammates are all in agreement before moving on. Though initially grim, at times humourless, he softens partly due to his newfound friendship with Takua.
- english
I am Jaller, Captain of the Guard. It's my job to protect the city against the Rahi. I knew they were getting stronger, but no one in the city believed me... until the beasts overran the Tren Krom redoubt.
Ta-Koro is the city in the great Lake of Fire, in the shadow of Mangai, the great volcano. This fortress guards the bridge to it. Many Matoran live there, surely you've heard of it?
But you wonder off every chance you get looking for stories! What about YOUR story? You don't HAVE a story? Only because you won't stand still long enough to make one. We all have a destiny, you know.
(Note: Although Hewkii is canonically male, I have left the role open to both male and female actors, since female actors, at least in my personal opinion, can do very convincing "young boy" voices, and I didn't want any prospective female actors to be put off by the character's canonical gender.)
Hewkii (pronounced HOO-kee) is a highly famed Po-Matoran athlete and Kolhii champion, and the right hand of Turaga Onewa. His best friend is Hafu, a Po-Matoran carver who is also his Kolhii partner. He is the greatest goal scorer at Kolhii of all time, and one of the few Po-Matoran able to crush boulders with both his feet and his head.
- english
You must go. I feel... strange. No one must come here, especially Macku. Do not tell her I am ill, it will worry her... she must not see me like this, she must not...
I'm sorry about this, Hafu. I will tell Onewa that I will lead the company. Don't worry, I won't let anything happen to you!
Yes. We're safe. But where have they gone? It seems too quiet, almost.
(Note: Although Hafu is canonically male, I have left the role open to both male and female actors, since female actors, at least in my personal opinion, can do very convincing "young boy" voices, and I didn't want any prospective female actors to be put off by the character's canonical gender.)
Hafu (pronounced HAH-foo) is a Po-Matoran carver and Hewkii’s best friend. He is extremely devoted to his work, and has a somewhat inflated ego, considering his carving skills to be unmatched. He usually spends time away from other Po-Matoran, working on his carvings. However, despite his arrogance and tendency to show off, Hafu is dedicated to his friends, and is both brave and strong.
- english
Another Hafu original!
So, you have need of my great skills. Who am I to deny fame and glory, even if I do not live to see it?
I cannot topple my own creations! There must be another way!
Hahli is a flaxmaker and fisher-Matoran from Ga-Koro, whose best friend is fellow Ga-Matoran Macku, who is also her Kolhii partner. She is generally kind and gentle, but also very shy and reserved. She later develops an affectionate relationship with Jaller, Captain of the Guard of Ta-Koro.

Good effort, Takua. Nice move back there - a little more practice and you’ll have something amazing.
Look, don’t get mushy, Jaller. I have no time for long goodbyes.
Jaller was your herald. Let him continue to lead you to victory.
Macku is a Ga-Matoran attendant and assistant to Turaga Nokama. She is also co-creator of the Ga-Koro Defence Force along with Hahli, which keeps external threats away from their village. Macku is more adventurous than her fellow Ga-Matoran; courageous and loyal, she often demonstrates a disregard for rules. She also displays a unique bond of mutual affection for Hewkii; her hut is known to be covered in pieces of Hewkii-related merchandise.

The only way to get to Ga-Koro from here is by sea, so you must take my boat, and I will search for the Toa on foot. Good luck! And tell Turaga Nokama I am safe!
I heard Hewkii was sick, and that you helped him become better. Thank you! I mean... that is, I'm sure the Po-Matoran are glad to have him back.
That was a nice shot, Hewkii. Now the Pahrak have no way to reach us.
(Note: Although Kopeke is canonically male, I have left the role open to both male and female actors, since female actors, at least in my personal opinion, can do very convincing "young boy" voices, and I didn't want any prospective female actors to be put off by the character's canonical gender.)
Kopeke (pronounced ko-PEH-kay) is an ice carver from Ko-Koro, renowned for building bridges and ice sculptures in honour of Toa Kopaka.
On the surface, Kopeke is considered cold and aloof even by Ko-Matoran standards; he doesn’t speak very often, and his outward attitude rarely comes close to friendly. However, in reality he is merely shy, and his silence is due to him being tentative to engage in conversation. Despite this, he is still a loyal friend, and his skill in Ice carving is unmatched.
- english
I do not wish to be questioned. If you seek answers, do so in Ko-Koro. There you will find mediation and contemplation. It is Turaga Nuju’s way to think on all things, and from his Sanctum on Ihu’s peak one can see far ahead and far behind.
The Makuta lead them into the ice, and I fear they will not return. Had you not come and saved me, I would be facing a similar fate.
In Ko-Koro we respect knowledge above all things. You must have great knowledge even to step foot within it.
(Note: Although Matoro is canonically male, I have left the role open to both male and female actors, since female actors, at least in my personal opinion, can do very convincing "young boy" voices, and I didn't want any prospective female actors to be put off by the character's canonical gender.)
Matoro (pronounced muh-TOHR-oh) is a Ko-Matoran who serves as Turaga Nuju's interpreter. He speaks the language of the bird Rahi like his Turaga due to his previous experience as a Rahi trader. He is quiet and keeps to himself, mostly because of all the secrets he knows. He's very protective of his friends, and wants to help others. He sometimes feels that he is inferior to the other Ko-Matoran due to him merely being a translator, while the others have fighting skills.
- english
I will translate Nuju's words for you, traveler. He has been watching you for a long time. Your role in Mata Nui's destiny is more important than you know. Mata Nui sleeps, but you, like the Toa, shall be an agent of his awakening.
The Toa will unite and find more power in the joining. They shall merge their skills, their knowledge, their wills to become Wisdom and Valor, named in prophecy Wairuha (pronounced why-ROO-hah) and Akamai (pronounced ah-KAH-my). In these forms, they are the Toa Kaita (pronounced kai-EE-tah).
There must also be created an alliance, a small group assembled from whomever the Turaga can spare, to help the Toa on their final quest. Nuju's question is this: to what place shall you lead the alliance?
(Note: Although Kongu is canonically male, I have left the role open to both male and female actors, since female actors, at least in my personal opinion, can do very convincing "young boy" voices, and I didn't want any prospective female actors to be put off by the character's canonical gender.)
Kongu (pronounced KONG-goo) is a Le-Matoran pilot and commander of the Gukko (pronounced GUH-koh) Air Force. He is a skilled weaver and mapmaker, as well as a disc throwing champion. Like many Le-Matoran, Kongu often uses humour to lighten up situations and remain focused.
- english
Traveller, beware! A darktime is coming - Matau has been stolen, and Lewa is gone! The Le-Matoran are preparing for battleflight!
I am Kongu, fastest Leaf-runner in Le-Koro! An everquick pilot, weaver and mapmaker!
Traveler, will you be my second? My Kahu (pronounced KAH-hoo) stays treebound without a disc-thrower!
(Note: Although Tamaru is canonically male, I have left the role open to both male and female actors, since female actors, at least in my personal opinion, can do very convincing "young boy" voices, and I didn't want any prospective female actors to be put off by the character's canonical gender.)
Tamaru (pronounced tah-MAH-roo) is a Le-Matoran navigator and friend of Kongu. He is chief Kahu bird tamer and the left hand of Turaga Matau. Like most Le-Matoran, Tamaru is excitable and fast-talking - often to the point where even other Le-Matoran find it hard to understand him. He is exceptional in a couple of ways - he is afraid of heights which prevents him from being a Gukko pilot, but he is an excellent swimmer; most Le-Matoran are afraid of water.
- english
Forgive us, but our village is being attacked by Makuta's evil beasts! We feared you were a Rahi, but no Rama plays the flute like that, so we've come downtree to greet you!
I am Tamaru of Le-Koro! Highfly vinesman and deep wood wayfinder! Chief Kahu-tamer, and Turaga Matau's best!
In the last rainfall, Kongu, while on patrol, saw a Rama-hive growing to topleaf-high, far in the dark forest. The rest of the Matoran were lateknowing, and the Rama were infected by Makuta! One drift ago, a swarm of cloud-seeking Nui Rama flew on Le-Koro to destroy everything in sight. Our quick-soaring Kahu-riders tree-launched, and a great battle was fought! The village still stands, but many have been lost!
(Note: Although Taipu is canonically male, I have left the role open to both male and female actors, since female actors, at least in my personal opinion, can do very convincing "young boy" voices, and I didn't want any prospective female actors to be put off by the character's canonical gender.)
Taipu (pronounced TAY-poo) is a miner from Onu-Koro, and among the strongest of the Ono-Matoran. He is best friends with Onepu and Nuparu.
Taipu is playful and carefree, but also rather naive and gullible - a trait that Onepu often takes advantage of; Onepu "shows" Taipu how he can do both of their digging at once so that he can slack off. However, what Taipu lacks in brains, he makes up for in strength and loyalty. He is the strongest miner in Onu-Koro, capable of lifting and throwing boulders twice his size.
- english
Onepu told me you found a way to the lightstones. Thank you, adventurer. We can dig much more quickly now. I am sure the highway will reach Le-Koro soon!
Onepu is my best friend in all of Onu-Koro. He is very smart and knows a lot about Ussal (pronounced uss-SUL) Crab racing and fighting Rahi. He is supposed to be digging, too, but he showed me how I can do both of our digging at the same time! THAT's how smart he is!
It's you! Are we to go on another adventure together? I would like that very much.
(Note: Although Nuparu is canonically male, I have left the role open to both male and female actors, since female actors, at least in my personal opinion, can do very convincing "young boy" voices, and I didn't want any prospective female actors to be put off by the character's canonical gender.)
Nuparu (pronounced noo-PAH-roo) is an tunnel engineer, second class from Onu-Koro, working in the 12th Marn tunnel in Sector 4. He is well respected for his innovative ingenuity, and produces many machines to make tunnelling easier for the Onu-Matoran miners.
Nuparu is friendly and inquisitive, often taking time off from his regular to job to explore and salvage equipment. He is always tinkering with his creations and looking for new ideas; his knack for innovation is uniquely impressive.
- english
Nuparu, Tunnel Engineer 2nd Class, Marn Tunnel 12, Sector 4. Who are you?
Wait, sir. I have an idea...
I'm an engineer, not a poet. Besides, a practical name will be easiest for you monsters to remember. I'll call it... BOXOR!
(Note: Although Onepu is canonically male, I have left the role open to both male and female actors, since female actors, at least in my personal opinion, can do very convincing "young boy" voices, and I didn't want any prospective female actors to be put off by the character's canonical gender.)
Onepu (pronounced own-KNEE-poo) is the captain of the Ussalry, an army of Ussal crabs that make up the Onu-Matoran branch of the Mata Nui military. He is a skilled Usual crab rider and the right hand of Turaga Whenua, and is often called on for advice. He is the first Matoran to see Toa Onua after his arrival.
- english
You there! Fetch those saddles! And we need more discs. Step to it!
Onepu, at your service. I am Captain of the famous Onu-Matoran Ussalry Regiment, Champion of Ussal Racing, and Special Aid of Whenua, our great Turaga.
Well, if we're going to get out of here, I guess we'd better start digging. Nuparu, you're an engineer - maybe you can think of something to help us. (Nuparu stares at the lifeless Bohrok) Nuparu? It would be better if you think and dig at the same time.
(Note: Although Kapura is canonically male, I have left the role open to both male and female actors, since female actors, at least in my personal opinion, can do very convincing "young boy" voices, and I didn't want any prospective female actors to be put off by the character's canonical gender.)
Kapura is a Ta-Matoran, deputy of the Ta-Koro guard alongside Jaller, and the left hand of Turaga Vakama. He is considered by most other Ta-Matoran to be slow and strange; he is notorious for moving extremely slowly, and for his cryptic, rambling and usually confusing responses to simple questions. His slow, deliberate way always remains true to his purpose, and he is surprisingly thoughtful, contributing simple but profound wisdom from time to time. He has also mastered a technique that allows him to seemingly travel at supersonic speeds.
- english
I am Kapura. Are you the Makuta? If you do not know what the Makuta is, then I guess you are not it.
You are where you are. If I practice, I can be where I am not. I think I can feel it. It is hot here where I am, but where I am not it is cold, and I think I can feel it. I must practice more.
It is as Vakama said. I practiced, and became skilled. I now know the secret of travelling great distances by moving very slowly. It is a small matter for me to be where I am not. It is a useful skill.
Makuta is the spirit brother of Mata Nui; he grew envious of how the Matoran worshiped his brother's greatness, and so cast a spell that sent Mata Nui into an endless sleep. He now casts dark places and wicked beasts on the island, and reigns over all shadows and darkness.
When the Toa descend under the Kini Nui to confront Makuta, he appears to them as a dark grey Matoran with yellow eyes, but his true form is much more frightening; no creature that speaks has seen Makuta's true form and lived to tell the tale.

I bore you. For I am Nothing. And out of Nothing you came. And it is into Nothing that you will go. I stand with Mata Nui, side by side. I am his brother.
The people of the world are builders. But look into their hearts... and you will find that they have also the power to destroy. I am that power. I am destruction. And I WILL destroy you.
The shadows are everywhere, Takua. And where they are, so am I. Even my shadows cannot hide your fear, or the truth: that you will not find the Seventh Toa. And deep down, you KNOW it.
