Beyond the Darkness (GTA 5 Horror Noir Machinima)

Project Overview

Hey there! I'm looking for voice actors for my latest GTA 5 Machinima. “Beyond the Darkness” is a Horror-Noir machinima set in the 1940s Los Angeles. It's a story about two LAPD homicide detectives tracking a serial killer who might be linked to the Black Dahlia case. This is a fictional story but it takes some elements from real life events. I’ve worked on this project for a few months and now I just need talented people to bring my characters to life. I would be super grateful to everyone willing to help me with this project!

I took inspiration from the works of James Ellroy and from the movies Se7en and The Silence of the Lambs. This movie has dark themes and it contains some scenes that might feel uncomfortable for some people. There aren’t any explicitly violent scenes but the overall atmosphere is very dark and oppressive, so keep that in mind before auditioning.

If you’re interested, feel free to leave your audition below. I’ll do my best to give you some feedback of your performances. You can audition for multiple characters if you want. Whatever suits you the best! This movie is about an hour long and It will be released on my YouTube channel. This is an unpaid project but, will give you a proper credit in the end titles and in the  description of the video, with links to your Twitter, homepage etc.

If you have any questions about the project, you can send me a PM through my profile or contact me on Discord: TwistedWisdom#7928

Requirements:

  • A decent mic without any background noise.
  • I’d prefer you to be over 18 years old or at least sound like an adult. (All my characters are adults).
  • A way to communicate. Via email or Discord.

Detective Clarke

Role assigned to: cb droege

Detective Clarke is the main protagonist. He’s about 30 years old and despite his young age, a very skilled detective. He’s kind of a workaholic who takes his job very seriously. Remains calm in almost every situation and rarely loses his temper. He’s highly motivated detective who does anything to catch the killer. I don't have any special requests for what the character should sound like. You can freely use your own imagination here.

  • I’m Detective Clarke and this is my partner Detective Matthews. We’d like to ask you a few questions. We want to know exactly what happened to you last night. Could you describe the man who attacked you? This is important. What did you see when you got outside?

  • There’s a trail of blood leading to a car down there. I found more blood in the trunk. You should see if it matches the victim.

  • Judith Bowman, age 25. Disappeared in April ‘47. Her headless body was discovered a month later. She had been severely beaten with a blunt object. Her head had been removed post-mortem. Case unsolved.

Detective Matthews is the partner of Clarke. A senior homicide detective. He usually doesn’t take a huge role in the investigation and lets his partner do most of the work. He’s a bit short tempered some times, but a good investigator. He seems to understand the killer’s mindset better than his partner does. He has a military background and had a traumatic experience in the war. I'm looking for a deep, a bit of a husky voice for this character. You can freely experiment and try different approaches when creating the voice.

  • We found her driver’s license near the body. Elizabeth Morris, age 21. Reported missing two days ago. She was a student at UCLA, no criminal record.

  • This is a matter of life and death, doctor! We don’t have time for this. If you don’t want to spend your night in jail, you’ll let us through.

  • Now where have I heard that name before? Hey, Blake! Would you come here for a second? What was the name of the girl whose car you found the other day?

Miss Dawson is one of the many victims of “The Raven”. She manages to escape the killer’s basement and ends up in a hospital. Despite the traumatic experience, she shows true bravery for helping the detectives in their investigation. She is about 20 years old.

  • I was on my way home when he attacked me. I struggled, but he hit me in the head and I fell. I woke in a small room, a basement or something. I remember the birds. There were birds everywhere. He tried to kill me but I got away.

  • I remember seeing the Hollywood sign in the distance. I ran towards it. Then I heard a gunshot and felt sharp pain in my shoulder. After that, it’s totally blank.

He is the leading doctor at St. Fiacre hospital. He’s the personal doctor of Ms. Dawson and is hesitant to let anyone see her. He has a strict personality and appears to be genuinely concerned about Ms. Dawson’s well-being. He's about 40 years old and has this firm, soft voice.

  • I’m sorry but I can’t let anyone in. She’s still recovering from a surgery.

  • I wish I could help you Detective, but she’s lost a lot of blood and she needs her rest.

Norman McMurray is a 33-year-old career criminal and a drug addict. He is the main suspect in the first murder case. He fears for his life because he has been personally in contact with “The Raven”. In this scene the cops are pointing their guns at him so he needs to sound fearful and somewhat desperate.

  • It was some guy with a mask. I didn’t ask much, I just needed the money.

  • You have no idea who you’re dealing with. He’ll kill me when he finds out I’ve been talking to cops.

Officer Blake is a 25-year-old police officer. He was the first responding officer at the second crime scene. He seems to be on good terms with Detectives Clarke and Matthews. He has no specific character traits.

  • A corpse of a young lady. Probably in her mid-20s. We believe she’s been killed somewhere else and brought here. We haven’t touched anything yet. I thought it would be best to wait for you guys.

  • We found her abandoned car from a parking lot in downtown. She went to the movies last Sunday and no one has heard of her since. Why do you ask?

The Witness is a neighbor of one the victims. He is one of the few people who has seen what “The Raven” looks like. He tries his best to describe the killer to the detectives. This is a guy in his mid-20s with an American accent.

  • I was in my house when I heard this loud bang. At first I thought it was just a thunder, but I decided to check it out anyway. I ran outside and saw this big guy carrying a woman to his car. He put her in the back of his truck and then drove off.

  • He was at least six feet tall, dressed in black. I didn’t see his face. He was wearing a mask.

A 50-year-old police captain serving in the LAPD. He is the leader of the homicide division and is the boss of Detectives Clarke and Matthews. He seems to care more about the good publicity than anything else. Det. Clarke and him doesn't get along very well. I'm looking for someone who can do an older character, this is a middle-aged man after all.

  • Outstanding job, kid. I’ll make sure you get a medal for this.

  • I didn't ask your opinion. You’re gonna take it! This is exactly the kind of publicity we need. You’re now the hero of this department.

  • Don’t you worry about that. Boys at the lab are working on it. Hey, go get some sleep. You’ve earned it.

Narrator reads the opening monologue. This is important role, because it is the first voice in the entire movie and sets the mood for the rest of the film. The monologue gives some historical background to the story we’re about to see. Similar to the opening scene in L.A. Confidential. However, I'm not looking for a Danny DeVito impersonator here. Just do your own thing and let's see what it leads to.

  • Los Angeles had become one of the fastest growing cities in America. In just a few decades, this sleepy little town had turned into a thriving metropolis. It was a Golden Age of Hollywood. The old studio system had come to its end, but they were still creating more stars than there are in the heavens. Every year thousands of people packed their bags, left their beloved suburban towns and headed to Hollywood, to a place where dreams came true. Everybody wanted their moment in the spotlight, but the truth is, only the strongest survived.

A female voice on the police radio. She gives the assignments for the detectives. She is also the last voice we hear in the entire movie. She has this clear, soft voice. You don't need to do any audio editing, just provide the lines and I will make it sound like a radio voice.

  • This is dispatch calling car 12. Do you read me? We’ve got a one-eighty-seven at Ascot Hills. Requesting immediate assistance. Over.

This is a minor role with only one specific line.  She asks the detectives if the victim is linked to the Dahlia case. If you want, you can also improvise something that a reporter could possibly ask. It's still possible to expand this role a little bit.

  • Is this victim linked to the Dahlia case?

Role assigned to: ClockWork5269

Wounded man is a guy who gets killed by Mickey Cohen’s henchman at the beginning. Before he gets killed he begs for Cohen to save his life. This is a very small role with only couple of lines. Obviously the voice needs to be desperate. He's about to die and he knows it.  Use your emotions and shout the last words.

  • You don't have to do this Mickey. Please, I'm begging you. NO!! PLEASE NO!!
