Audio Drama: DEAD WRONG (CLOSED)

Audio Drama: DEAD WRONG (CLOSED)

Project Overview

DEAD WRONG: A gullible zookeeper lies that his girlfriend is dead to protect her. He even agrees to go to grievance therapy to keep up the ruse.

Please note: I'm willing to rewrite and alter roles (names, backgrounds, etc.) for the right talent. (With the exception of Javier.) Please feel free to improvise if you like and add your own personality to it! Thank you all in advance! If you are able to do multiple voices and characters, that is always a plus but not required.

Anyone who can do multiple voices is a plus. If you are auditioning for a lead role, please feel free to add/improvise a second voice for a supporting role. Noah & Harper have the largest parts followed by Javier, Mandy, and Elise.

LIST OF CHARACTERS:

1. NOAH: Male. Early 30s. Noah has an occasional stutter when he is stressed (actor does not need to follow the stutter written in the script--please feel free to improvise the stutter where it sounds natural). Kind, charismatic, laid-back. He hosts a bird show at the zoo. Noah is the main character and has the biggest speaking part. Elise is his con artist ex-girlfriend.

2. JAVIER: Male. Early/mid 30s. Fluent in both English and Spanish. Smart, observant, and a great listener. He is the story's narrator and Noah's best friend. He is the one who convinces Noah to go to grievance therapy group.

3. HARPER: Female. Late 20s to early 30s. Harper is an aspiring actress. Funny and very expressive and animated in her speech.

4. ELISE: Female. Early to mid 30s. Elise is clever, sophisticated, and manipulative. She should be able to sound smart, sympathetic, and vicious in turn.

5. MANDY: Female. Late 20s to early 30s. Mandy is a no-nonsense single mother who says it like it is. She recently lost her husband and brings her best friend (Harper) with her to grievance therapy.

SUPPORTING ROLES:

6. ESTHER: Female. 70s. Esther is well-meaning, but also a nosy gossip. May have an accent. (Up to actor's discretion).

7. DOLORES: Female. 60s. Must be fluent in English and Spanish. Spanish accent. Dolores is warm and animated in her speech and uses Spanish occasionally.

8. AGENT COURTNEY: Male. 50s. Compassionate, but tired and straightforward. May have an accent. (Up to actor's discretion).

9. BILL: Male. Late 50s. Bill is a blunt and sarcastic war veteran who lost his leg in Afghanistan. May have an accent. (Up to actor's discretion).

10. TERRY DAVIS: Male. Late 30s. Well-meaning but awkward Grievance Group Therapy Counsellor.

11. YOUNG NOAH: Male. Pre-pubescent 9 or 10-yr-old voice with a stutter.

  • Dead Wrong Casting Completed

First of all, I wanted to thank everyone who auditioned for Dead Wrong. I'm so flattered that so many talented people were interested in our script. It was agonizingly difficult to choose just a few among so many fabulous actors! For those who asked for notes or feedback, all I can say is that I chose predominately by how well I thought the acting matched the personality of the character and secondly by the audio quality. Unfortunately, I had to eliminate a lot of people because of echoing mics etc. I hope that there will be more audio dramas in the future that will be a match for some of you next time! It was so hard to not to have parts for all of our favorite actors! Thanks again and best of luck! You're all amazing!

  • (DEPRESSED) What's the point of anything anyway? I watched like 40 hours of National Geographic documentaries and I had a realization: (HEAVY SIGH) We're all just a bunch of gazelles, running through the savannah with no where to go and no purpose. And then when you fall or don't pay attention, there's a crocodile or a cheetah waiting to tear your throat out.

  • (STARTLED) Oh! Y-y-yeah. Of course! Just... I have a girlfriend--HAD a girlfriend? I lost m-m-my ...I just got out of a serious relationship?

  • (LAUGHS) Yeah, that never turns off. Still drives great though.

  • Despite having dated off and on for four years, Noah's still oblivious to Elise's side hustles as a con artist and a master manipulator. With a resume of identity thefts from the old gardener across the street to the First Lady herself--this niña fresa has the FBI hot on her trail. And she's about to split the country and kiss her blue-collar boyfriend goodbye.

  • Where have you been all my life, Mandy? More importantly--where have your orange cinnamon rolls been all my life!?

  • NO! I would never do that to Noah. And I told you! I hated her! She maxed out Noah's credit card multiple times and took cash out of my register... I mean, I'm sorry for what happened to her, but I barely ever saw Noah when they were dating. And she was always like: (MIMICS A HIGH-PITCHED VOICE) "Javier doesn't understand me. He's always accusing me of lying. He never gives me a chance. Noah, Baby, you shouldn't spend so much time with him."

  • (LAUGHS) What? I'm not going to dry clean a red-carpet gown! I'll get the most obscene, uncomfortable, miserable, skimpy sequin gown I can find, wear it once, and auction it off to charity like any other self-respecting actor.

  • Turn right down Washington Avenue... Oh, I'm going to click ALL your buttons! There's so many! It's like an 80s star trek space ship! Buttons that don't do anything! I love buttons. (GASPS) Can we listen to this?... (WHINING) Please. Please. Please. Please. I can be very annoying...

  • (LAUGHS) Yes! I mean "hate" is a strong word, especially for someone who's dead--but I'm still loving the vibe! High-five!

  • (SIGHS. QUIETLY) Listen... I hate to tell you this, but Noah's a bit of a pathological liar. I'm not surprised he let you think that. He kind of freaked when I told him I was leaving for a while. You were just a cheap rebound for him for a few weeks when I was gone.

  • (getting annoyed) Seriously? What is with your attitude all-of-a-sudden? I couldn't stay here and I couldn't contact you because I was in trouble! I had no choice! Do you really think I WANTED to leave you!? And I'm here now. Didn't you say you'd stay with me no matter what?

  • ESTHER: Drug bust? No, that couldn't be. I heard they've been interrogating people in his neighborhood: They say she conned millions of dollars out of her mobster ex-boyfriend and he had her killed off.

  • What? Hey, am I mistaken or did that bird man manage to swap tigers with Shirley Temple's evil twin?

  • Oh, God! I can't even say his name anymore. I want to scream every time someone else says it! I can't bear the pain in my chest everytime I think about how he won't be there for Ben's birthday or when he goes to school or loses his first tooth. I’m so sorry I told him to get out! I'm so sorry and I'm so angry and I just want to die so I don't have to bear this weight anymore!

  • No, calm down. You didn't know. Uh-oh. He's coming this way! Don't make eye contact! I'll block you. I'll trip him. I'll... (QUIETLY) Walk away... Quietly...

  • Dr. Davis: (NERVOUS LAUGH) Yes, right. That. (CLEARS THROAT AGAIN) So, I thought that it would be good to take a moment to visit a loved one who has passed on... You could say goodbye, air your grievances, whatever you need.

  • Agent Courtney: Agent Courtney, FBI. I'm here because I wanted to speak with you about your girlfriend, Elise Cole. Can you tell me the last time you saw Ms. Cole?

  • WAITRESS: Don't worry about it. It's on the house. I don't know what's worse: getting stood up or...well, this. Aw well, better luck next time. That one seemed like a real piece of work.
