In a rainy city, where a recent meteor shower has given countless other women extraordinary abilities, a down-on her luck Private Detective named Carol Echs (pronounced 'ex'....see what we did there? :P) finds that she has the power to absorb other women's powers and traits. As the series progresses, Carol will find herself investigating more and more different phenomena, each case presenting more opportunities to usurp more power. But when Carol potentially sees herself on the precipice of becoming super powerful, will she decide to wield her new gifts responsibly?
The Echs files will be an ongoing series, so we are looking for a long-term commitment (6-10 episodes) for the roles of Harry and Carol, the series regulars. In addition, each episode will include 1-2 extra roles for the "villain-of-the-week". All roles will be paid a fixed fee (per episode) as noted in their role descriptions an adjusted based on their respective word count and estimated recording times..
All roles be read independently and then submitted to GPA for final editing. No group reads or table reads required.
IMPORTANT: This project has a "fairly aggressive" production schedule. As a result, please do not submit if you do not think you can commit to submitting your final deliverable (< 2000 words per role per episode) within 10 calendar days. This is due to the amount of post-production that we need to perform for each chapter.
Carol Echs (pronounced ‘Ex’) is a down-on-her-luck Private Investigator in her late twenties. She's educated, confident, cynical and quick-witted. She can be sassy and bright-sounding when talking to others, but not so much in her monologues.
[monologue] The kind of dough Templeton was waving in front of my face doesn't come around so often. But the stakes were high for a good reason. Harry was right about most of the meteorite girls winding up in the big house or getting iced.
[resigned] Tough life, Harry. You have no idea what I have to do to make a lousy buck in this town. [Takes a swallow of drink, sighs.] I've been up for forty hours straight, tailing a cheating husband. Guy's banging this girl in the back room of a laundrette. Poor bastard doesn't know his wife's going to be taking him to the cleaners in a whole different way... She's going to be set for life and rid of the bum. And all I get is enough dough to cover a few days' rent.
[amused] I just told him to hit the- [sudden realisation] Oh my god! The golden voice! The spark! When she touched me! [amazement] I've got her power!
Harry is a barman in his fifties. He hasn't had much education, but he's street-wise. His establishment isn't the kind of place the rich and famous frequent. Behind the bar, he is completely at home, part-therapist, part- (unqualified) life-advisor, part-kindergarten-supervisor to his clientele.
[chuckling at the joke] Good one! [Warm, friendly advice] But you wanna know what I think? I think it all balances out in the end... good luck, bad luck, ying, yang... all that stuff. You've been on a bad roll, so you just gotta hang in there because you're due a break.
[Sfx: Thoughtful, reflective music starts to play]
HARRY: [Like a parent giving advice] Let me tell you a little story about an old pal of mine who had this big dream about one day becoming-
[Sfx: Needle scratch, music stops]
HARRY: [Suddenly shouts] Hey buddy! You kick my jukebox one more time and I'll kick you! [Calm again, talking to CAROL once more] I really should get that thing looked at...
Sirena is a supervillainess in her twenties. Her power is the ability to control minds with her voice. She can command people to do things, and they obey as if hypnotised. She adores having power and using it.
[cocky] I'm going to be making a withdrawal.
[smugly] No, honey, it's from all YOUR accounts. Take this bag and fill it with cash. [haughtily] And be quick about it. I haven't got all day.
[dominant] Approach me, toy. [pause] Kneel! [pause] Kiss my feet! [pause] Start working your way up. Slowly. [pause, pleasured] Mmm-hmmm.., [pause, enjoying herself ]I could get used to this. I might keep you boys as pets. [cold] At least until I get bored of you.

(flirting) Boy, there must be something very wrong with this world if a beautiful lady like you is drinking alone...
(robotically/hypnotized): Hit the road.
(annoyed, as if he's just been knocked into) Hey! Watch where you're going!
