Anthologies of Ullord: The Eternity Bargain
Project Overview
Plot: In the wilderness outside the cleric town of Myrefall—known for its temple to Mara—two Myrefall clerics are returning home after completing a task they were given by their high priest.
A pilgrim of Mara—a cleric who travels and does the will of their patron god—is investigating disturbances in the area.
The three of them encounter something unexpected in the unassuming wilderness outside of Mara’s most prominent temple.
Background for Actors:
Mara Clerics:
The clerics of Mara believe beyond a doubt that life, death and then the afterlife is the natural order to how Mara intends mortality to be as a concept and experience. This means that anything that disrupts this flow, or desecrates the dead in their final resting are sacrilegious against their patron goddess’ will and dogma.
The church of Mara also upholds the belief that preservation of life and doing as little harm as possible, save for those who have betrayed Mara’s teachings, is a sacred law. Quickening the demise of another is seen as a slight against Mara, save for the mortals who have bastardized her domain.
From an early age the clergy are taught Mara’s dogma. As they mature they are then taught a weapon specialization and trained to fight the monsters that are a mockery to the life goddess. Upon their mastering their weapon training, they are sent on missions along with the more experienced clergy members to teach them the skills that can only be learned while they are fighting monsters.
Ultimately, Mara clerics are taught to accept their own mortality. They are not taught to foolishly risk their lives, nor to throw away the gift of existence. The clerics are taught that when death comes for them to gracefully accept Mara’s embrace. Their end to life is only natural and death is nothing to be feared.
Khacae Clerics:
The clerics of Khacae are those who believe that existence should not be fleeting. Khacae has taught his followers that they are not doomed to live the existence that the gods worshipped by the majority of Ullord have boxed them into. Khacae, to them, is freedom and the ability to choose for themselves and to enjoy everything that they consider to be good in life.
Khacae looks most favorably upon necromancers, but will often grace other mages and those who have gone against Mara with his presence. Khacae will accept offerings and sacrifices in exchange for wishes granted.
The idea of here and now when you can get your promised reward is the most satisfying to those who follow the teachings of Khacae. Why would you delay gratification, gaining power, wealth and anything else you desire? Living the here and now for eternity is the true way to guarantee your future and that your wants are met. It is a fool’s deed to live in the here and now knowing that at any moment their life, achievements, knowledge and possessions are no longer theirs.
The greatest gift Khacae can give is immortality by his hand, called the “Eternity Bargain” by his followers. With enough willpower to manifest the god and offerings he deems acceptable, the “Eternity Bargain” can be achieved. It is often the goal of large groups of rebels against the church of Mara to be given eternity to achieve their every want and desire.
Notes for actors considering our projects:
- Our works are all original, paid and we want the best of the best audio.
- We give highest consideration to those with better audio quality
- Auditions with audible reverb, background noises, fuzziness, peaking and the like will be rejected.
- This is because we can always direct your deliveries to be closer to ideal. We cannot show up and fix your interface, microphone set up and soundproofing/treatment.
This means no to:
- Headset microphones
- Phone microphones
- Internal microphones
- Laptop microphones
- If you want a better idea of what we’re looking for or what sort of project you’d be auditioning for, listen to our previously completed works (they are listed on our profile page).
- When auditioning, please do not add any effects to your audio. Cleaning up static is fine (you definitely want to put your best audio forward for your audition). But, if any effects are needed, the audio engineer will do that.
- Please record your audition audio in your treated space.
- Do not ask us for feedback during the auditioning process.
- For one, we do not have time to answer every auditioner’s questions about how well they rank compared to others, how they can improve their audition etc.
- We also do not give special considerations or some manner of advantage to anybody.
- We are easy-going, but we are professionals, not doormats. That means we expect you to respect deadlines and to respond to attempts to contact you.
- When we cast, if we do not hear back from an actor within 3 days, we will make a FINAL attempt to contact them. If we do not receive a prompt response we will recast, no exceptions.
- If you are cast, ***record in mono.***
- We welcome new talent who we have never cast before as well as those we have worked with before.
- We believe in transparency and we are up front and honest about ourselves, our projects and so on. Feel free to ask us basically any questions you may have about our works, characters etc.
- We believe in a positive and supportive working environment. Even though this is across the internet instead of actors having an hour in a recording studio, we still do our best to maintain that. With this in mind, how you behave and interact with us will be mirrored.
- Lastly, we [professionally] love our actors. We show them the utmost appreciation and support. If we have a good working relationship with you, then you have a very good chance at receiving future work from us, plain and simple. We also support our actors’ creative endeavors, personal projects and leave recommendations on CCC after a project has been compiled.
And if you really, really want to get into our heads, this is a video about casting in general and us specifically:

A big thank you to everybody who auditioned and who have been waiting for the completed work. https://youtu.be/LsRVfuJHq0g
Khacae, Patron of Undeath is the god the necromancers worship and credit with their abilities. He is their manifestation of defeating the life and death cycle that Mara oversees. This is done via the creation of vampires, zombies, soul manipulation and turning oneself into a lich. His domain is intentionally counter to the life/death goddess.
Khacae is merciless, creepy and egocentric. Preservation of himself as a concept means more to him than anything else. He figured out that letting mortals make bargains with him continues belief in him, and thus sustains his existence. He enjoys mocking Mara and openly defying the life and death cycle.
For Khacae, we are looking for creepy, weird, intimidating and off-putting in your performance. We are open to any voice type. But, please do not add effects to your audition audio.
Quash the Mara pest or the Eternity Bargain is out of the question.
Oh, you two will make fine additions to my followers...
Oh, you are so big...probably strong. And you...if I let you keep just enough of your intellect, you can still use magic…. Yes, I think I will do that, my new pets.
Tahir is the god of virtues. He is unique in that he is also his own counterpart because virtues are subjective. But, he is the god of all the people who stand for what they believe in, stand on principle and do not bend to the willpower of others. He can be a kind and understanding god but also a cruel and tyrannical god. He is an aspect of justice and judgement. He sees things as black and white with few if any shades of grey.
He can be abrasive and intimidating. He is difficult to persuade into action on behalf of mortals. He will rarely tip the scales but will instead observe and take note of particular mortals that pique his interest for one reason or another. He does enjoy the company of his fellow deities who he can get along with.
For Tahir, we are looking for somebody with a voice range of medium to low.
Though I must wonder what sort of prayer could be so important that she would drop everything to answer it.
[disgusted] And why is the air so thick with self-righteous indignation?
In fairness, they did just nearly live out their greatest fear. I can understand that they may have been…preoccupied.
Bion is a cleric of Mara, one whose home temple is located in the town of Myrefall. Bion often tries to act as a voice of reason with his fellow clerics from the same town, in particular his friend Nasius. He can, however, let his emotions get the better of him at times. Bion is an orphan, left with the temple of Myrefall at birth. During his training, Bion found himself with an aptitude for magic, which he used to try to make himself stand out from his fellows. However, in spite of this, he has often felt as if he has been caught in the shadow of his friend, many times seeming to see his friend receive blessings and fortunes that Bion has desired. However, in spite of this, and his occasional bouts of envy, Bion does not hold this friend's fortunes against him.
For Bion's voice, we are open to any voice type.
Do you see what your impetuousness gets us into?
[concerned] Well, that likely isn’t good.
I’m still not entirely certain what just happened, exactly.…[trail off]
Mot is a deeply devoted cleric of Mara, one who travels the world of Ullord, doing work in Her name and spreading Her word through his deeds. Always serious, almost stoic, Mot is not completely emotionless, but he can certainly come off as such with his normally cool, detached demeanor, a detachment cultivated by his largely lonely life of constant pilgrimage. Of course, when he does get upset, that just means his reaction is that much harsher, as he is less than accustomed to letting his emotions loose. Mot's devotion to the church runs deep through the cleric's past. Though an orphan like so many of Mara's clergy, Mot was not abandoned to the church at birth, thus retaining his former family's name. However, an incident in his youth saw his family slaughtered, and himself enslaved and abused for many long, agonizing months before his rescue at the hands of a cleric of Mara. With nowhere else to turn, Mot went with the cleric and began down the path of the clergy. For his voice, we're looking for someone on the deeper end of medium. Preferably with a raspy tone, thought it is not necessary.
For his voice, we're looking for someone on the deeper end of medium. Preferably with a raspy tone, though it is not necessary.
Yes, and the two of you were lucky I had heard rumors of this cult.
Life, death, and rebirth as you wish it to be…
[whispering] I am in time to stop at least some of their blasphemy...
Dunya is one of the followers of Khacae. She has unfaltering faith in the dark god and she refuses to give in when her faith is challenged. She is a mage as well as a cleric. She can behave subserviently, but ultimately she is feisty, independent and sly. She is willful, stubborn and functions well in times of desperation. She is difficult to sway and she feels that behaving in a way that is self-interest and in the interest of the only deity to pay her mind is the best way to continue her existence. She wishes to be outside of time and space to exist entirely on her own with no consequences forced upon her by the mainstream deities.
Having felt abandoned by the gods of the pantheon that the majority of the world worships, she was easily lured in by the whisperings of the dark god. She had psychic dreams since she was a child and in this dreams, the more she felt lost on her path in life, the more she came to understand the being that she now worships. As an adult, she continues to have such dreams and she continuously finds herself getting into desperate situations with dire consequences.
We are open to any voice type for Dunya. We are looking more for an interesting and convincing performance.
What fun would that be?
By knowing that we have more faith in our merciful god Khacae than any one mortal could ever have in Mara. By knowing Khacae loves everything we do. And that our god, our patron leader would not condemn us for the abilities we were born with.
[slowly] That would please him very much.
He is the leader of a small grouping of clerics that worship Khacae. He, like many others who join a cult of Khacae, have reasons for wanting to separate himself from the widely worshipped gods of Ullord. He is a mage who wants to continue his research for as long as he can. Being granted unlife by the Eternity Bargain is a means to an end for him. It is currently his highest aspiration at the moment. He, like many others, does not want judgement for his abilities going against the established dogma of a particular deity.
He is willful and melodramatic. He is a strong leader, ruthless, and one for preferring to have others do the hands-on work. Ekim is a powerful mage, but he does doubt himself and his goals when he is met by a strong confrontational force. He is perceptive and insightful and this causes him to reflect on happenings, himself and others around him. This sometimes causes him to question his resolve and the motivations of others in an analytical way. He does see others and all actions taken as a means to an end and he operates in this way.
We are open to any voice type for Ekim. And we are looking forward to hammy, villainous performances from you.
Now, please, appear to us, great defier god! Come to the mortal plane and feast upon our mortal forms! For we are no more than blood and bone and flesh, but with your essence we can transcend the certainty of life and death! In your name and image we can take our fates, our futures, into our own hands!
And? What consequence are they to us now?
[said under breath] He does not tire. He does not waver. He does not stop…
Felkis is a mage that worships the dark god Khacae. He specializes in hexing powder, which is a substance made by crushing and combining various reagents into a powder that is created with a purpose in mind as it is being created. The hexing powder's uses differs based on ingredients and the potency is tied directly to the willpower of the user. He is fairly fast at creating hexing powder to use during combat and during rituals.
He is bookish, intelligent, curious and diligent. He tends to be level-headed even under pressure. Curiosity about the world around him brought him to discover the groups of people who act outside of the normal spectrum of worship. Curious and interested in their viewpoints and learning as much knowledge as he could outside of the accepted spectrum of mortality, he kept company with the Khacae clerics.
For him, we are open to all voice types. We are looking for somebody who can sound both like a bookish mage and an amoral cleric of a dark god.
Good. I cannot wait until we get to feel their warm blood turn cold on our hands.
[quietly, annoyed] Patience is a virtue.
Do we want to kill them?
Klara is an amoral cleric of Khacae. She is witty, ruthless and willing to use underhanded tactics to achieve her goals. She has a personal sense of justice and fairness. She is temperamental and flighty.
She is subservient to their leaders and she herself is dedicated to getting eternal life through the Eternity Bargain. She can be overwhelmed rather easily by stress, but she ultimately feels like she is right and that her choices are right for her. She does not want to be judged by Mara and would rather avoid what awaits her in the afterlife as long as possible. She is willing to do whatever is asked of her regardless of morality. She is a powerful mage and she wants to continue her magic and learning. She, like many others seeks more power wherever and however she can get it. Her looking into ways to obtain more power led her to a following of Khacae.
For her, we are looking for somebody with a wide emotional range. But, we are open to any voice type.
Well, that’s rude. Underestimating us like that...
[sheepishly] Oh, right.
[frantically] What are you doing?!
The narrator acts as the gap-bridger between narrative and the audio medium of audio fiction. The narrator is a sort of third-person observer of the events of the story.
For a narrator, we, as always, are looking for somebody with great cadence who can read extensive passages well with an even tone throughout. For the tone, we are looking at somebody who can read for an atmospheric shift. The story is serious, dark and crossing into lite horror at times.
We are open to all voice types for the narrator and the narrator can be male or female.
Further down the path that the two clerics had taken sat a cave. Not far from that cave, men and women wearing attire not unlike the costumes alleged by the merchants of Airedale patrolled the area, seeking to ensure that their fellows within remained undisturbed. Behind them, a man approaches, unheard. Moving swiftly, he dispatches the guards that he had come across, and moves toward the cave.
While the Khacae-worshippers stay silently deep in thought, the temperature of the room instantly becomes freezing.
In the aetherial realm, the home of the gods of Ullord, Mara sits with her fellow deities, Barbas, Mikael, and Tahir. The quartet had come together for conversation and tea.
