Anthologies of Ullord: Curse of the Blight

Project Overview

"On the middle of a swampy island, there lies an area of pure, natural beauty. Beset by the blight that left the rest of the island in its dreary condition, this forest is cared for by the last druid of the Oberoni domain, and by his family and friends. A wrecked ship from a nearby, power-hungry nation brings disorder to their peaceful lives, however..."

"The Anthologies of Ullord: Curse of the Blight" is one of many stories written by Edwin Dantes and Nikki Flynn, set in their fantasy universe of Ullord. Focusing on the Oberoni Domain, it tells a tale of the druid Althor Grimleaf, his wife Tirtha Camphorspring, their children, and their friends as they deal with a rash of thiefts, while also exploring the origins of the blight, an unnatural affliction that has left the rest of their island swampy and barely habitable.

It is also our first foray into turning any of our stories into an audio work. As such, it is going to be done over the course of multiple calls, so that we can take things in more manageable pieces. The next group closes for auditions June 5th (Althor, Vipin, Cillian, Iva, Travkin, Naikitin, Arbane, Basira, Pramod and Sadat).  The tentative closing date for the project  is June 12th.  (While it often is implied, we accept auditions from the same actors for multiple roles.)

If you want any additional information, then feel free to message us or use the links in our profile to find our past works on Patreon (we have a handful of published scenes and stories that can be viewed by the public).

  • The Final Compilation

We know it has been a long, long while. We were waiting for audio, and now that we have all of it, we are beginning compiling it. When we have everything compiled and that compilation can be linked to, we will be leaving recommendations. If you would prefer us to leave your recommendation now before we can list a link, either leave a comment or send us a private message saying so. We are almost there! :D
  • Progress Report

Since a lot of you are as eager as we are for this project to come to fruition and you are left waiting and guessing without updates... We are waiting on the last few actors with their audio. Some real life has come up for some of them and they are recording when they can. When we get the last few lines in, compilation and clean up will begin. Otherwise, we are still on top of things. This project is the auditory manifestation of one of our many written works and thus, we are still invested in completing and sharing the project with its contributors and the followers of the project. We are still surprised and grateful that so many of you were interested in our characters, the story and the undertaking of an audio work in this way. But, with the enthusiastic response with this work, we are looking forward to opening other projects here on ccc for casting. And we want to continue overseeing these audio works. And of course, if you want to know any more or any other specifics, please, message us or leave a comment.
  • Some FAQs from Actors: Answered

Hello to everybody watching the project! I (Nikki Flynn) am a bit sick. Getting a little better day by day. So, I am not quite 100%. But, for those questions, comments and concerns: By July 1st, we should have in some of your lines. Many of you have been cast for more than a month, and thus, should have at least a scene worth of dialogue recorded. By July 31st we should have in most of your lines. For our minor characters and extras, July 31st seems fair enough time to record and still dedicate times to your other projects and obligations. This is your soft due date. August 15th is our current date we expect to have all lines submitted to us. This is the hard due date. That way if we need you to re-record, having all lines in before this date does give some wiggle room. After we have a completed project to link to, we will be leaving feedback for all of you who are contributing to this project. If you need additional information or direction, contact us on the collaboration page or via message. We are happy to help you better understand characters or give you feedback on your tone, pronouncing etc. Please keep us updated. If you are going on vacation and thus will be unable to make certain deadlines until you get home, please let us know that. We will work around that or know to expect your files later. Also, make certain that we know how you want to be credited. I may have missed somebody's comment on that, but I will gladly update our cast list to reflect your stage name instead of a username, even if you are cast as an extra and we are using your original audition audio: Althor- Moby White Tirtha- Clare Dore Rurik- Expressman Izar- Sharon ‘Sha-Sha’ Menefee Kellena- Amber Marie Bernauer Vipin- Matthew Sutter Arvizu Byaar- simon-dlsea Kourma- Erin Lillis Diatte- Iziah Faulkner Liita- IrisDragon Marielle-Iris Dragon Gratia-WaffleoRai Pryth- Vincent Fallow Chalmer-TunnelBurg Lotah- James Goins Naisii- Dawn Ruzena Tallec-Balmung Shaeodus- Gaelan Warner-Dilts Sama Scout-Balmung Teorainn- Andy Yuengert “Plain Yogurt” Pramod- Vincent Fallow Avani- Faketsuki Sadat- WaffleoRai Cillian- Sharon ‘Sha-Sha’ Menefee Iva- Meggie-Elise Travkin- Fake Tsuki Naikitin- Carrick "RaccoonBro" Inabnett Lazare- Carrick "RaccoonBro" Inabnett Arbane- Raerock9 Basira- WaffleoRai Asra- WaffleoRai Wood Elf Commoner- AbigailTurner Clerk- AbigailTurner Narrator- Hem Cleveland Any other questions, comments or concerns, let us know. • And now the roles are closed.

We will be working again to select actors for the roles that were not filled yet. Within the next few days we will post the results. I will continue posting updates as they happen including a rough calendar of due dates and when things are expected to be done. We are grateful for everybody's support! Tirtha Camphorspring

Role assigned to: ClaireDore1

She is a mage and a dye maker by trade. She loves nature, walking around outside, cooking, sewing and baking. She is humble, but sometimes is caught up in her own thoughts.  Tirtha is highly charismatic, friendly and approachable. She has remained constantly optimistic even in spite of negative circumstances. She is a loving, devoted person who is passionate about her work, her friends and family. She is difficult to upset. She is traditionally effeminate in many ways.

We are open to any range of voices for her; we are looking at individual performances instead of having a type in mind. Anything from medium to high ranged is preferred.

  • Something always feels off here. Wrong. Unnatural. Like using magic in the middle of a forest…

  • I truly can’t express to you how beautiful and peaceful this place is to me.

  • These can be made to make the most vibrant, beautiful colors!

Role assigned to: AmberMarie

She is mage and alchemist by trade. Her family traditionally acts as the doctors and medicine makers for the nearby swamp villages.  She is protective of her friends and children. She is prone to excitement and enthusiastic, emotional expressions. She is astute and she easily picks up on others' subconscious cues. She acts as the counselor for her friends at times. She is friendly and happy over all. She is also reasonable and logical and she solves her problems directly. She tends to be more adventurous and more of a tomboy most of the time.

For her lines, somebody with a medium to low, but still effeminate voice is preferred. We are open to any type of voice for Kellena, though.

  • (Breathless, having just met an attractive man) He was…wow….

  • I just saw the most handsome man and I couldn’t even speak!

  • (After three of her and her friends' children have run home, each having given a different account of the creature; she's explaining to one of their worried parents as she brings the child home)

All three of them claim to have seen a monster.

He is a mage. He left his family’s trade of being mages and teachers for the village he grew up in wanting to choose his own life path. He also was not a fan of his strict, puritanical upbringing. He moved out of his home village several years ago and has been near the purified forest ever since. He instead accompanies the trade caravan as a protector for the non-combatants. He is bookish and overly logical. He is smart, he enjoys reading and bettering his magic in his free time. He made Althor's magic weapons.

We are open to all voice types for Rurik.

  • (Incredulous) You think I’m handsome?

  • (Discussing the blight and its origins)

For all we know it is an unnatural plague.

  • (Defeated, not excited about the prospect, but unable to counter the argument for searching the entire swamp for a group of thieves.)

No. It will go faster than us hoping to stumble across them.

Izar a writer by trade. She is an academic and a writer of fiction. She enjoys doing experiments and learning about the world around her. She is also younger than the other adult residents of the purified forest, though not by much. She practices magic and reads about various applications of magic and magical items. She is a straightforward person, smart, and inquisitive.

Even with her being younger than the other residents, we are open to all voice types for auditions.

  • (Having just discovered the blight causes things to age extremely rapidly, discussing what it would do to a living person)

That is decidedly not an experiment I want to find an answer to.

  • So the thieves struck again while I was busy doing work.

  • (To Rurik, with him having just left a bookstore after buying several of her books)

Well, it's also not often that I see a handsome man like you that's so interested in them.

For a voice, a snooty, condescending tone is a must. Otherwise we are open to all voice types with no preferences to high, medium or low voice pitches.

  • But, I’m more interested in not knowing exactly where that diverse of gene groupings happens in the world.

Avani is the goddess of nature. She loves mortals and used to live out mortal lives alongside them. She often gives her favor (which results in nature magic such as restoring life to dying plants) to those she feels will use it well. She is not as capricious as other gods can be. She tends to enjoy watching mortals more than singlehandedly intervening in mortal affairs. She is cheerful and optimistic.

We are open to any voice type for Avani.

  • She found one of my grandchildren entirely by blind luck and they fell in love and have children. And soon grandchildren.

Role assigned to: Moby White

He is a druid, able to pray to Avani, the goddess of nature and use those magics to restore dead plants to their former life. By trade he is a furniture-maker. Both of his parents died when he was a child. He occasionally had visitors who passed through his forest, many of whom stayed for a brief few days, then were on their way again. He spent years mostly alone maintaining the forest, keeping it alive and blooming every spring.

Later in his adulthood, he begins carrying around four staves that allow him to use magic to protect himself, the forest and its inhabitants.

Althor enjoys the simple things in life, and had become accustomed to living alone, only speaking to the nature goddess. He is territorial, blasé, terse and reserved. He can be reflective and philosophical at times as well.

We are looking for somebody with a medium to deep voice for him.

Vipin is laidback and easygoing. He is difficult to anger, but he is protective of those who are important to him. He is not talkative and he does not let things bother him easily. He has a very go with the flow outlook on everything.

We are looking for somebody with a medium to deep voice for Vipin.

He is the third born child of Althor Grimleaf and Tirtha Camphorspring. He is shy and quiet and more of a homebody than the other children of the purified forest. He enjoys helping his parents with maintaining the forest, pick fruits, vegetables and herbs and purify the area to rid it of blight. He is more bookish than the other children and enjoys both of his parents’ trades of woodworking and furniture making with his father and dye making and fabric coloring with his mother. He is among their children who are consecrated, meaning he is more charismatic and has a lot of divine energy.

Cillian’s personality is reserved, quiet and shy. He prefers the company of his family and the other inhabitants of the purified forest to strangers. He is often visibly nervous around strangers and does not like being put on the spot. He is eager to learn, works hard, and is gentle and kind to others.

He is 7 years old.

Iva is the fourth born child of Althor Grimleaf and Tirtha Camphorspring. She is optimistic, happy, and she likes the company of others. She is also a consecrated with a lot of charisma and divine energy.

Iva’s personality is soft-spoken, quiet and peaceful. She is very gentle and a caring empathic person with a lot of sympathy and the want to help others. She does not mind being the center of attention, but she does not go out of her way to obtain leadership roles. She makes friends easily and she finds courage and resolve around others, especially those who are close to her. She idolizes both of her parents for differing reasons: her mother for her mother’s loving and optimistic approach to everything and her father for his determination and dedication to whatever he undertakes.

Role assigned to: RaccoonBro

Naikitin is the third born child of Vipin Skyleaf and Kellena Castorflame. He is the middle child and thus strives to set himself apart from his older siblings while still setting an example for his younger siblings. He idolizes his father and the various survivalist tendencies his father has with living off the land, hunting animals and using the meat and skins so nothing goes to waste. He also idolizes wood elf culture since he is aware of his mixed parentage. He is aware that he and some of his siblings look more like wood elves than swamp elves and he wants to keep that part of his heritage in the present.

Naikitin is easygoing and nonchalant like his father. He is very terse and is eager to learn and better his surviving skills. He is brave and oftentimes this crosses over into foolhardy and reckless. Despite having an austere persona and leadership and decision making coming easy to him, he often defers to Iva and the other Grimleaf children, seeing them as the royalty of the purified forest and the other inhabitants as commoners.

He is 6 years old. His mom calls him "Nai" and Iva calls him "Kit".

Travkin is the second born child of Izar Snowstar and Rurik Larkspurshade. He has shown an aptitude in magic since he was a toddler and time and effort have only improved his conjuring skills. He is well-read, literary and curious about the world around him. He has a want for adventure and exploring the forest as well as the rest of the world. He enjoys reading about magic and trying things he learns about on his own without his parents or siblings guiding or aiding him.

Travkin’s personality is independent, adventurous and curious. He is not easily intimidated or frightened showing courage and curiosity, both of which are driving forces for his actions. He sees no reason to be limited by expectations others have of him, whether it be his race, age, stature of anything else that might influence what people think of him. Thus, he can be a bit defiant or seen as brash, cocky or a bit of a show-off and he can easily rub others the wrong way.

Pramod is the god of deception. This makes him the patron god of thieves among other unseemly professions. He likes mortals, enjoys watching them, interacting with them and gracing them with his presence and gifts of his domain. Often when he finds a mortal he particularly likes, he appears to them to talk with them nonchalantly the way a friend may show up announced. He is the god that intervenes in mortal affairs the absolute most.

Pramod is a trickster with a serious side. He is playful and he enjoys giving riddles and impossible challenges to others to watch their reactions. This is often how he gives his quests to mortals who hope to earn a favor from him. He often appears as a warning to the mortals he likes the most, offering them advice that is sometimes subtle but borders on cryptic. He finds it more fun to not be straightforward with people, but to instead nudge them in the right direction and let them experience life and discovery for themselves. Despite the actions he takes over the course of the novels and the way he behaves, the god of deception is perfectly sane.

For Pramod’s voice, we have no preference for low, medium or high voices. The performance and delivery will be what matters. He would fall somewhere between the sliding scale of unctuous car salesman and seductive, sultry and flirtatious, falling closer to flirtatious.

The goddess of luck is capricious and cynical. Only fools would dare to ask for the favor or aid of such a capricious goddess who may give you want you want, or that may decide that she finds your suffering more amusing. Because few mortals see the beauty in random chance, she is rarely seen as a beloved goddess.

Gamblers thank her for their luck and winnings after games and her clerics speak her name and honor her only to avoid her wrath. Those who otherwise appreciate her pique her curiosity. She will often give blessings to mortals just to see what happens. Her gifts are often chaotic, such as giving somebody only good luck or only bad luck.

She is very nonchalant, with a mostly flat affect. She can seem to waver, changing her mind between mere moments. She is a curious experimenter who is intrigued by change and between what sets things apart and makes them different from one mortal to the next or in various circumstances. She is fascinated by mortals but rarely puts much thought or effort into them and how the gods affect their lives.

    Disgusting! This is everywhere!

  • (Line 2) (In pain)

It’s burning! Oh, in the name of the gods!

  • (Line 3)

Reptiles can’t see at night. So this is the safest night to go get food.

Role assigned to: irisdragon

She is deferential to authority and she does what she was taught to do well. Her ideals match up with the rest of the Sama’s including their understanding of genetics and the magics of the world around them. Only when she has to be in a position of authority does she take a leadership role. She is mostly happy to do the research she is assigned by her superiors.

She is smart, logical and a planner. She was a mage for the military prior to the shipwreck.

For her voice we are looking for somebody with a low to a medium voice.

  • (Line 1)

How do you explain it, then? I doubt we missed entire druid settlements when we were attempting to procure druid blood for the royal family heirs a few years ago.

  • (Line 2) (quiet and weak from hunger)

There are so many of us…we have to eat…

  • (Line 3) (frantic and terrified) [warning another character about the effects of touching the silvery slime]

Yes! It was slow! It was like acid! It burned them! And anybody who helped them was melted away, too!

Role assigned to: GWD

Shaeodus is an explorer under the Sama crown. He leads groups of the military that specialize in survival to colonize new lands that the Sama have not previously explored. This includes establishing a camp, making maps and studying the local flora, fauna and weather patterns throughout the year.

He is a brave and commanding person. He does not buy into superstitions including those of curses or mythological figures without reason for it. He is logical and derisive when others are spouting nonsense. He is mission-oriented and obeys orders without question.

For his voice we are looking for somebody with a deep to medium range.

  • (Line 1) (Derisively)

If you want to return home, we’re it. Let’s go.

  • (Line 2) (confused)

The dust is them? Who is "them"?

  • (Line 3)

There should be some indication that something living had been here.

Role assigned to: irisdragon

Marielle was one of the few survivors of a disease that afflicted her home village of Cedar Cove. She was young with no survival skills and she was only trained in the basics of magecraft and she was just literate enough to survive. Prior to the disease, she was training to be a mage guard for trading caravans to fight off bandits.

Not knowing what else to do, she began stealing her food and living that way. She was transient, but with a cave on the beach where she would retire to in the winter to protect herself from the cold.

She is a logical person who goes through each possible scenario in her mind before she decides on an action. She is emotionally reserved and calm most of the time. She is not as emotionally expressive as she could be.

For her voice, we are looking for somebody with a low to medium range.

  • (Line 1)

I know it’s dark. But, something about this place seems familiar But, I’m not entirely certain why.

  • (Line 2)

Right. We don’t want to fight the one mage again. Since we can’t continually conjure magic.

  • (Line 3)

    Damn thief!

Role assigned to: Blythe H.

She survived a plague that swept through her home village of Cedar Cove. She was the daughter of crafters who made dishes and vases from wood and clay. She had begun her craft training as well as dabbling in studying magic in her leisure. After surviving and there being nobody left alive to give her direction, she began wandering the swamp, eating whatever food she could find. She soon found Marielle, one of her fellow villagers. The two began working together to survive.

Gratia is very impulsive. She is emotionally over reactive and very quick to anger. With a bad temper, no guidance and being orphaned as a teenager she does not bond well with others and she has little to no empathy.

For her voice we are looking for somebody with a medium to high range.

  • (Line 1)

This was a good plan. Smart. If we keep waiting, we can catch the thief.

  • (Line 2)

But, this time, we scare them off with some Barbas spells. Make them never want to come back here again.

  • (Line 3)

Since the dead people on the beach took our home, we still need to find another.
