Animorphs Fandub Audiobook Casting Call (First Round, Post-Hiatus)
Project Overview
A fan-made audiobook project for K. A. Applegate’s Animorphs series!
I likely will not cast these roles until after the casting call deadline, and the deadline may move back depending on scheduling.
Some of these characters will be recurring and act as narrators for future books. Others will be one-off opportunities. I am also looking for understudies for many of these roles, so if you are not cast, I may still reach out to you and ask you to join the project.
After you are cast, I’ll be asking for Discord usernames if you’re not already in the Animorphs Fandub Audiobook server (https://discord.gg/9mEG3WRGrG). Having a Discord is required for the project. You can audition both on here or on Discord!
More auditions will be published when more roles need to be filled!

Auditions are open to anyone, but Marco is at least part-Latino in the books, so it’d be great if I could get a voice actor that matches that, but not necessary. He can have an American accent or a Hispanic accent. A queer actor would also be cool to get for Marco, though this is not necessary either. A sarcastic, amusing teenage boy who enjoys poking fun at Rachel. He gives lots of nicknames and is a wannabe ladies' man, but has a tragic past and self-confidence issues. He’s best friends with Jake, and through the first couple of books, doesn’t have a good reason for fighting for Earth until the first book he narrates, The Predator. He starts out age 13 and ends age 16. If you can sing, that’s a plus!

My name is Marco. I can’t tell you my last name or where I live. Believe me, I wish I could. I would like nothing more than to be able to tell you my name is Marco Jones or Williams or Vasquez or Brown or Anderson or McCain. Marco McCain. Has kind of a nice sound, doesn’t it? But McCain’s not my last name. I’m not even going to swear to you that Marco is my first name. See, I’m hoping to live a little while longer. I’m not going to make it any easier for the Yeerks to find me. I live in a paranoid world. But just because I’m paranoid doesn’t mean I don’t have enemies. I have real enemies. Enemies that would freeze your blood if you only knew.
People don't understand the word ruthless. They think it means 'mean.' It's not about being mean. It's about seeing the bright, clear line that leads from A to B. The line that goes from motive to means. Beginning to end. It's about seeing that bright, clear line and not caring about anything but the beautiful fact that you can see the solution. Not caring about anything else but the perfection of it.
The sort of odd-one-out of the Animorphs, Tobias has a troubled past. Looking for a softer masculine voice that can be rough at times. Very open to trans and otherwise gender non-conforming voice actors. He first narrates the third book and is a main character. He’s sort-of friends with Jake after Jake stood up for him in school, and he kind of likes Rachel. He starts out age 13 and ends age 16. If you can sing, that’s a plus.

I won’t tell you my last name. I can’t tell you my last name. Or the name of the city where I live. I want to tell you everything, but I can’t give any clues to my true identity. Or the identity of the others. Everything I will tell you is true. I know it’s going to seem unbelievable, but believe it anyway. I am Tobias. I’m a normal kid, I guess. Or used to be. I used to do okay in school. Not great, but not bad, either. Just okay.
Who am I? What am I? A bird. A boy. Something not quite human. Something more than human. The person Rachel loves. I discovered something amid the pain and terror and confusion. I discovered that the answer to what I am, to who I am, isn't something to be answered in a single word or a single moment. It could take a lifetime to figure out who I am. For now, I'm willing to hang in there, floating on a thermal. Biding my time.
Jake’s mother. Auditions are open to anyone who has a motherly voice fit for a stereotypically suburban, middle-class white mom with two kids and a loving husband. She is a recurring character.

Jake, are you awake in there? Your friend Tobias is here.
In a lot of ways being a kid is worse than being an adult. You have the same things to deal with: friends, temptations, love and hate, and all that. Only you don't have the two great weapons that adults have to help them.
A slave of the Yeerks and organizer of the Sharing, which indoctrinates kids so they want to give up their free will and will allow Yeerks to take over their brain and body voluntarily. Chapman is the assistant principal of the Animorphs’ school so he must have a somewhat kind and authoritative voice, but also be able to be cold and harsh. In the second book, his Yeerk lets him speak, so this character is actually two different characters with entirely different personalities. He gave up his freedom so that he’d be taken by the Yeerks instead of his daughter. He is a recurring character.

(Angrily, to inferiors) Item one. We have still not found the brats who were at the construction site, I want them found. Visser Three wants them found. Does anyone have any clues?
(Scared, but explaining why he can’t kill a cat to his superior) Yes, Visser. O-o-only… the cat belongs to the girl. If I kill the animal, she will be angry. She may draw attention. Killing a cat is seen as a bad deed. It would violate my cover.
(The real Chapman, allowed his freedom for a few seconds. He speaks with courage, sadness, and hatred to his superior. He’s breaking down and crying when he reaches the emotional parts of this) Visser Three. You… we had a deal. You know I never wanted to join you. My wife did. But I said no. But… but then my wife… no longer my wife by then, of course. My wife who was no longer my wife… my wife who was one of your creatures… threatened… threatened to give you my daughter.
An extra, one-off role for the first book. He's just been kicked and possibly woken up suddenly by a stranger.

(Someone nearly runs over him trying to get away from an alien, but he's not aware of the alien's presence yet) “Hey!”
(A continuation from the last line, trying to get the kid to leave so he can get some peace and quiet) “Hey, get outta here. This is my place, and I ain’t got nothin’ for you to steal.”
Controlled by the Yeerks, these aliens are actually peaceful and eventually ally with the heroes in the series, but only after they’re freed. As Yeerk hosts, they should regard themselves as walking weapons and see themselves as superior to others. Later on in the series, they should be able to sound sweet and gentle.
Hork-Bajir have beaks and are six to seven feet tall, but can still talk in a mix of English and alien speech. Feel free to be creative with how you imagine they sound.

(Casually and jokingly to a human about them doing a bad job and slightly threatening them) Go in fergutth vir puny body. Ha ha. He gulferch you and eat your lulcath. Ha ha.
A disgraced Andalite who gave technology and attempted to befriend to a race of sentient parasitic aliens called Yeerks who ended up turning on them and becoming a great evil. This is called Seerow’s Kindness and he is mocked for it. Because of this, he is sent to do lowly jobs overlooking pointless species and planets since he is intelligent but not trusted by his own kind to make decisions unaffected by his kindness. The Gedds are barely conscious in their natural state, It’s not as if they were stealing the bodies of truly sentient creatures. They and the Gedds are symbiotic. They have -
(Asking his daughter a question) How are you getting along with your young friend? I notice that you are not making regular data entries. You did for the first three months. Then you stopped. Well, I understand that Dak is almost a friend to you, Aldrea, but we have a mission here. We are supposed to be learning about the Hork-Bajir.
(Comparing two species) The Hork-Bajir I’ve encountered barely function at the level of a small child, The Yeerks were so fascinating. Highly intelligent, yet so limited physically. It’s as if the Hork-Bajir are the exact opposite: physically impressive. Mentally... well, simple.
A one-time character. He starts out precautionary, following orders. As the lines progress, he gets more irritated. An alien species thinks lesser of is getting too close to his high-tech equipment.

We have so much for artists to do! We’ll be completing one full illustration for each chapter to be used for the audiobook video on YouTube. We’ll be splitting up bigger illustration tasks into parts (sketching, lineart, background, coloring, shading) so people do not get overwhelmed.
Artists can also focus on designing characters (humans, animals, aliens), props (sci-fi things), and backgrounds, or just making concept or meme art based on what has already been designed.
Assignments will be taken voluntarily in Discord with loose deadlines.

As a casting director, you will just be called upon to help make casting decisions and pick out good lines for casting calls when we have new characters.
As a voice director, you will be making sure voice actors’ lines sound the best they can be and are getting their lines in on time. Being able to attend voice recording sessions on Discord is also necessary.
Being familiar with the Animorphs series is a must for these roles.

As an audiobook, the audio is one of the most important parts of this project. To be an audio editor, you will be assigned chapters to edit the voice actors’ audio files and/or add SFX to the audio when necessary (properly sourcing and citing SFX sounds is important).
You can also choose to be a proof listener and listen to other editors’ completed edits to make sure they align with the script and are paced well.
Let me know what audio editing software you have as well as if you’re familiar with the Animorphs series.

As an audiobook posted on YouTube, the video editor’s role will be zooming in/out of one image for the length of a chapter’s audio. You will be assigned chapters to edit the finished illustrations and audio files.
