Animated D&D Story Series (Curse of Strahd)

Project Overview

This is a casting call for an animated video series that will go on my youtube channel! The series revolves around the true events that transpired in our Curse of Strahd D&D campaign. This youtube video is a perfect example of what it will generally look like, although I'm going to be making some style changes with the art and music, as well as a slight tonal shift towards a more horror themed fantasy setting. The writing will consist of a mix between my narration and the dialogue of the characters. And the tone, like I said, will be a bit darker but will still attempt a balance between humorous, tense, and dramatic. I'm very excited to get started!

Several of the characters below are recurring roles for future episodes, so if you are interested in applying for a role please be aware that I'd like to continue with this series for as long as it takes to finish it. Additionally, as of writing this I'm currently working two minimum wage jobs and make nothing on my present videos, therefore I can't afford to pay a rate as of yet. People chosen to voice recurring roles, I'd ask that you please be patient with me! I do want to eventually offer some kind of compensation to you for future videos, because I know voice acting is hard (trust me on that one). It's just not feasible right now, sorry! For now my only payment I can offer is your credit in the end card as well as the description of the video, with a link to your preferred social media or business website.
Here's an additional example of what the credits will look like:

  • Thank you, peeps! Wow!

Thank you everyone for auditioning! I'm blown away by the amount of interest this got. The players and myself did our best to find the most accurate voices for this D&D group, and for many roles it wasn't an easy decision. If you did not get a part, fret not! I will be posting more casting calls for the many, many minor roles as I write the episodes for the series! We're talking Barovians, villains, backstory NPCs, and maybe even some monsters? If you want to follow up and try for other parts, you can follow me here on Casting Call Club so that you get notified when another project is listed. You can also follow me on Twitter @coolboybeebles , or subscribe to my youtube channel if you are interested in this kind of content. Thanks again everyone, stay tuned for more!

I mentioned that chosen cast members will get their names animated in the credits. This is what it'll look like :) https://youtu.be/KrXllQant1g
  • Update and MORE Details

As my ideas for this series come together, I'm getting a bit more ambitious with the quality of it, and so I've decided that the deadline will be extended by one week so that an ample opportunity is given for people to audition. I'd also like to clarify some things: - Before auditioning, make sure you have a decent mic setup and reduce background noise. That's a very important factor in casting for these roles! - I will be adding the cast to my discord server so that I can direct each of you when we record the lines together. So, if you don't already have a discord setup, you may need to get on that. - This series will be pretty long, roughly anywhere from 17 to 20 videos. It will likely take a year or more to finish. Please audition with that in mind (especially for main cast)! - Relating to that, since I don't have the funds as of now to pay a rate, I'm essentially asking for a commitment for free. That's why I hold the highest respect for those of you who audition - it means you are putting faith in me that this experience will be beneficial to you, and for that I'm honored! - I will be creating a small backlog of episodes before I decide to release them publicly. So, should you be chosen, you won't see the product of your work for a good few months (animating and music composition is hard, yo). - Your name (or alias, if you prefer) will appear in the credits that will be shown in the intro for the series, animated into each episode that you play a part in (main cast will be in every intro). Additional credits, like your social media link, will be shown in the description as well. I'm pretty excited for this series. I think it's going to frankly be the best thing I've ever made up to this point, and I'm glad that some of you want to play a part in it. Thank you all so far for your auditions! Good luck! =D

Ophelia Atlantes is a 21 year old noble born wizard specializing in Necromancy. She is True Neutral, level 1, and relies on her familiar Sparks to deliver touch spells for her. She is bookish and quiet much of the time, but employs a dry wit and sarcasm as a defense, as well as her spells. More than that, she is cunning and ambitious. She relies on cold logic when dealing with dangerous situations rather than her feelings for others, and will preserve her life at nearly all costs. Then again, she's never done anything quite like this before, so all that could change...

She speaks with exceptional articulation, and has a bit of a raspiness to her voice since she's so quiet most of the time, similar to Scarlett Johansson's voice or Raven from teen titans.

UPDATE: Mai from Avatar the Last Airbender. Her voice is a perfect fit for what I have in mind for Ophelia. It's moody, intelligent, slightly bored, and a little raspy, but also expressive when she needs to be.
If you've already auditioned and want to give it another try, please feel free!

  • … Charmed. My name is Ophelia Atlantes. I have more information regarding the job with me. I believe we are waiting for at least one other person.

  • (Annoyed) … Is there a particular reason you’re being so antagonistic, mystery girl?

  • East of here? That’s where we’re heading anyway. I’ve never heard of Barovia before…

Role assigned to: Connor Terrell

Roscoe is an orphaned halfling in his late teens. Chaotic neutral, level 1, and he's had to fight to survive for most of his young life. A talented thief, he has learned the city of Waterdeep's backstreets and has become adept at fighting, pick pocketing, and even has a bit of magical potential... But personality-wise he's a generally upbeat lad with a knack for mischief and keeping secrets.

Roscoe is not formally educated, so he doesn't use big or complex vocabulary if he can avoid it. He likes to talk people into being more at ease typically, but he often acts on impulse which can put himself and others in danger. And he steals a lot. He's a thief.

UPDATE: As I'm hearing the auditions, I've realized that what I'm asking for is not easily achievable (the Boston/Southern mixed accent). I'm going to reset my expectations here and zero in on the most important aspects of the character, and hopefully a voice that fits will present itself.
1. He's a halfling teenager, so his voice should not be deep.
2. He's not a fast talker. His tone is typically gentle and deliberate.
3. A drawl on the vowels would be nice, but let's move away from any explicit accent. The southern/boston angle doesn't fit like I thought it would. My bad! I'm work-shopping this voice as I listen to your auditions.
If anyone who has already submitted an audition wants to give it another try, please feel free!

  • C’mon Owen, how many times do I have to tell you not to call me that.

  • (Jokingly) Protection business? You mean extortion racket?

  • Well I’m fine with the extra help. Welcome to the party, Aberdeen!

Role assigned to: BrookeMorganVA

Kara is a young(?) half-elf horizon walker, although both of those facts about her are not knowledge she shares easily. Neutral Good, level 1, she's just here on business, and wants everyone to know it. She seems to have a difficult past that she's still dealing with, and therefore is surprisingly harsh when interacting with others. Her high walls are employed on everyone with the exception of children and animals, both of which her heart melts for. Behind her front, she's genuinely a good person, if a little abrasive.

Kara's voice needs to be strong, and her tone is generally sarcastic. Other than these two qualities, I'm leaving her voice kind of open to see what feels right. Just know, she goes through a lot of emotions in this series!

UPDATE: ... There are some reeeeeaallly good Karas here... but I'm going to hold off on casting until the deadline. Great job, all of you!
If you already submitted an audition but think you can do better than your first one, feel free to go ahead and give it another shot!

  • So this is the place. *sigh* I have a bad feeling about this already.

  • Slow down there, princess. First of all, who voted you leader? And second, as annoying as he might be, are you sure you want to throw away free help like that? Something tells me you’re going to need it.

  • WHAT DID YOU JUST CALL ME?

Abe/Dean

Role assigned to: Spencer Brus

Abe... or Dean, is a unique individual. He's a young dwarven cleric, maybe around 25 years old or so... but he earnestly believes he's a human. Additionally, he follows a chaotic evil god without quite understanding that his god is actually evil. Oh, did I mention he's a eunuch and shaves off his stubble every morning? Yeah, he's a weird one! Chaotic Neutral, level 1, he uses the War domain to lay the smack down on enemies with his hammer and shield. Eternally cheerful and optimistic, his annoying tendencies are matched only by his baffling competence in battle and with magic. Just, don't call him Aberdeen. That's not his name.

I'm not entirely sure what voice he needs, Just go for what you think matches his personality, and I'll pick the best one.

UPDATE: Here are a few more details about Abe/Dean now that I'm hearing many of your auditions. First, he's not very bright. High wisdom but low intelligence, he can't predict outcomes very easily, which feeds into his relentless optimism. That optimism is also really important. He often has a "matter-of-fact" tone to his voice and doesn't seem to pick up on many social cues like sarcasm. And his devotion to Talos can sometimes come off as pushy, but not typically condescending. Scottish and Irish accents aren't necessary due to the fact that he wasn't raised around dwarves and so wouldn't speak like a typical dwarf.
If you've already sent in an audition, please feel free to try again!

  • (Laugh) That’s a good one! But I’m not a dwarf, I’m a human, like her! Mind if I sit with you all?

  • As I suspected. You all need Talos in your lives. It’s settled then! I’ll follow you on your journey until each of you sees the light!

  • (Serious) My name is Abe, or Dean. Not Aberdeen. I’ll let you off easy this time, but don’t make that mistake again.

Role assigned to: Q

Morwen Daggerford is the duchess and lady of the city of Daggerford, south of Waterdeep. In contrast to her impeccable fashion sense, she's also a capable fighter. She is trying to uplift her city and make it grow.

Her voice would probably be best with a received British accent, but I'm open to other interpretations as well.

  • You see, I’m having a bit of trouble with some werewolves attacking my farmsteads outside of the city. I need this problem taken care of. I’ve been told by your brother that your house is looking to continue building relations with other noble houses through favors and acts of good faith. Can I rely on you to help in this matter?

  • Oh, heavens no, girl! What a ridiculous notion! No, there are several others in the city who are… prepared to join you on this quest.

Role assigned to: Poppletron

Owen is a scummy thug from the Zhentarim. He's got a business relationship with Roscoe and Shazi, but he's a bit rude and perhaps a little bigoted towards lizardfolk...

I was imagining a Cockney accent for this guy, but some how that seems a bit stereotypical, so if you have another fitting accent or voice for him, give it a shot! And if your Cockney is good, try that too!

  • SHHHHHH, not so loud ya big green oaf! Do you want the whole city to hear you?

  • Then keep quiet and listen up, you two! The Black Network has a big job it needs taken care of. Werewolves have been plaguing the farmsteads, threatening trade and messing up our protection business.

  • That’s right my scaly friend! Werewolf pelts are rare and, to the right buyer, are worth quite a bit more than your shoes are!
