Alban - Skyrim Follower Mod

Alban - Skyrim Follower Mod

Project Overview

Introduction

Hey everyone, hope you're all doing well! This is a very different casting call than what I normally do, this time having one character though many more lines than I typically do.

The only role open for auditions is Alban who currently has 1200 lines written, though I estimate the final count to be about ~1500. Due to the size of this character, I have offered a £100 flat rate. This is not nearly enough to cover the workload of Alban, but due to this mod being free to download, I hope it might be a small incentive. The chosen actor will also receive a % cut of the mod's Nexus revenue generated through the download points system.

This is what I believe to be my best-written mod, covering real, human topics that I myself have experienced. It offers a complete story with an NPC that I hope will feel like a flawed but real human.

Overview
The quest and follower all revolve around Alban, an adept mage who has mastered the art of Auramancy. This unique magic lets him evoke the emotions embedded within objects, and if he's familiar enough with a person, summon spectres to reenact emotionally significant scenes. With this magic, you'll be joining Alban as he attempts to locate Egon, his uncle, after he has mysteriously disappeared.

Upon discovering the fate of Egon, you'll be able to recruit Alban into your company and permanently unlock him as a follower. This will allow you to delve into the companion's tragic past and, if you so wish, begin to work through the trauma that has built within him. These conversations are managed by a happiness system which, when raised or lowered, will impact all other dialogue from Alban.

I will give a warning that the themes and topics discussed within Alban's dialogue are heavy and will detail things like suicide and self-harm. If you have any qualms or issues with voicing these things, feel free to ignore the project; I don't want anyone to feel uncomfortable for the sake of a mod.

Characters
Below I will give a very brief overview of Alban's personality:

  • Reserved and marred by a life of sadness.

  • Underneath a timid exterior lies a caring and inquisitive man who wishes to learn more about all of Nirn and its inner workings.

  • Dealing with immense troubles, though seeks to hide them unless the player raises his happiness.

Requirements

  • Audio – Those familiar with Skyrim modding will know the traditional format for this type of project, but if you're not, lines should be sent in a .WAV format with a sample rate of 44100hz and mono processing.

  • Time Management – I have worked on over 30 voiced Skyrim mods, and I have never/will never rush VAs to complete lines, as this can only lead to an inferior project. However, I do expect a certain level of communication for these lines to ensure we are both on the same page.

  • Audio Quality – I am open to all voices and interpretations of Alban, but one thing I do require is a good microphone along with high-quality audio. I know how immersion-breaking it can be to hear poor audio quality when playing mods, and so I would like to maintain a high standard for all applicants. So please ensure there is no background noise or evidence of poor mic quality within your auditions.

  • Interest in the project – This is probably the thing I'd like most for potential VAs. I have an immense passion for creating these mods, seeing them as not only a fun addition to Skyrim but also a complete story for players to experience. If you're genuinely interested in this character and feel the same, that'd be incredible!

  • Open to more work – As with many other Skyrim follower mods, I aim to continually update with commentary on more quests along with other aspects. If you audition for the role, I'd love if you'd be available to do more lines in the future!

  • (Optional) Skyrim Knowledge – While not required, the script references many aspects of Skyrim's lore, such as provinces, races and civilisations. If you have a basic knowledge of the Elder Scrolls world, that would be great!

Conclusion

Thank you all for reading this very lengthy description haha. I wanted to make it a tad more official than my other casting calls due to the nature of the project.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to message me on here or on Discord:

This could be to find out more about the character, or if you have any questions on the project, I'd be happy to answer anything you have!

Thanks again for reading, and I wish you all luck if you decide to audition!

Overview:

Alban is a fairly young Breton male who, while adept in all forms of magic, specialises in a unique sect known as Auramancy. This magic allows him to evoke the emotions embedded within any inanimate objects, and if he's close enough with the person, summon spectres to re-enact particularly potent scenes of emotion. With this talent, he spent many years travelling Tamriel attempting to help those in need of this unique skill. At the lowest point of his life, Alban now returns to Skyrim to visit his uncle, the man who taught him all he knows of the arcane.

I will warn that this character deals with heavy topics, such as suicide and self-harm. These are not written for shock value but rather to portray a grounded and flawed character, along with voicing some of my own experiences through Alban. The dialogue mentioning such things is written tastefully and never becomes verbose or used as shock value.

Personality:

Alban is a deeply vulnerable character, being subject to a life of hardship and pain. Upon the player's meeting with him, he is at the lowest part of his life, and after discovering his uncle's disappearance, his mental state only further worsens. He believes all the sadness and pain in his life has been caused by a curse placed upon him by a Daedric Prince, doomed for all his loved ones to wither away and die.

These topics can all be addressed by, once travelling with him, raising his happiness by doing activities he enjoys. The higher his happiness, the more topics that can be discussed and addressed, changing his world view into a more positive one and potentially even dispelling his curse once and for all. On the flip side, if you do things Alban dislikes, he'll begin to grow distant and even actively dislike you, potentially leading to him abandoning you.

While a character with deep-rooted issues, he is not a constant source of melancholy. Alban is a complex figure, adoring the magical arts that his uncle taught him and will never hesitate at the opportunity to learn more about Nirn and its inner workings. This manifests in gameplay as him using his magic when travelling, speaking of the emotions embedded within nearby objects, along with him telling stories of his travels through Tamriel. Upon his happiness improving, he'll also show his more caring side, protective of the player while maintaining an occasional dry humour.

Voice:

Alban is a Breton in his early 20s; his life has been shaped by isolation and, at many points, sadness. At the beginning of his initial quest, he should be shy and hesitant to open up, but as he spends more time with you and his happiness rises, his confidence will be bolstered.

I envision his tone being calm and, while timid, never stepping into the realm of whiny or annoying. This will obviously change depending on the dialogue, but I envision that calm and measured voice always remaining. A good example of this, I believe, is Greirat from Dark Souls 3; ignoring the accent, his voice is measured while still displaying emotion.

The accent for Alban is something I've deliberated for quite some time. While not necessary, the preferred would be an English or Welsh accent. This isn't a hard requirement, and if you believe that another would suit him, feel free to include it in your audition.

Lines:

I have currently written 1200 lines for Alban, though I expect the final product to be around 1500. This is obviously a huge workload, and so I am aware the flat rate of £100 isn't nearly enough to cover this. However, since this is a free mod and the chosen actor will also receive a % of the mod's Nexus revenue, I hope it is still an incentive, if only a small one.

I also aim to continually update Alban with more lines, be they commentary on more of my own quests or dialogue with other companions. This means if you are chosen, you will be fine to do more work in the future.

Do note that the sample lines are multiple lines combined into one for CCC. A slash has been added to differentiate these.

  • On the Divines - (Questioning) We are the product of their sacrifice, we are moulded in their image. In that sense, I believe they do. // Still, they have some autonomy, do they not? I cannot help but think they are… idle. Simple bystanders watching us suffer.

  • Story from travels - (Happy) My magic spoke of a child who held the utmost love and adoration for the toy. I felt… pity and so, I began my search to find them. // [Small laugh] I spent hours searching the city, knocking on each door and asking if the doll belonged to them.

  • Player uncaring - (Completely wracked with sadness, anger dies) I thought you would help overcome my curse, do you understand?! I had hoped you would make me better! // I see it now! You're no more than a figment of it, a demon sent to torment my waking moments!
