1 Year Progress Review
The start of October marked MMPR’96’s big one-year anniversary since its inception–back when there wasn’t a CCC page clogging up the websites Open Projects feed 24/7, nor the faintest idea from me on where/how one even goes about casting for an audio drama–along with mixing voice, music and sound effects all-together into one harmonious, engaging package.
It was just me, a totally wild/random/inspired dream about what would shortly become the “Pink Ronin”, and a small bit of creative courage to park my butt in front of Da Vinci Resolve and say, “Hmm…there might be something interesting here–let’s see where this goes…”
And gone the work has for the past year–maybe not as fast as some would have liked/hoped (myself included), but for the kind of crazy ambition MMPR’96 has evolved into from its original premise/goal–there’s a lot of remarkable progress to celebrate that will certainly lead into full-on production over the next year.
So, how about we kick this recap off with the most important people of all involved–the current cast members!
CURRENT CAST:
Alice Irvin: Kimberly Ann Hart
Azakaela: Saba
Gochilad: Scorpina
Mcb020: Trini Kwan
PnutButterPorkChops: Tommy Oliver
Veronica Rotar: Kay Andersen
There are still a few hopefully-to-be-announced-relatively-soon additions in active progress, but these (absolutely amazing) six individuals have collectively set an extremely high bar on the quality front for the future cast-to-be to match. As unusual as it is to take a year+ to cast for just another one of these ever-growing “fan” dramas out there–one must understand the ultimate goal here isn’t just to assemble a MMPR cast, but the MMPR cast–second only to the original actors who will forever be the the pop culture icons that they are.
A hell of a lofty goal to match the equally-as-ambitous creative, but I’ve only grown in my certainty that if I’m going to produce this–this has to be the best interpretations of these characters in both the story and acting fronts. In other words–settling has never been part of my vocabulary, and I’m not about to start now.
Which is why I’ve been willing to go through the rather unconventional and rigorous trouble of producing in-depth mock-ups to edit auditions into–so that genuine clarity on who is best suited to play one of their potential dream roles can best be ascertained by me in ways that simply listening to cold isolated line readings themselves can’t accomplish.
After all, this audio drama is a two way dance between voice actors and my specific choices in writing, music, sound effects, editing, and timing. The totality of everything put together is where the magic, and therefore–my certainty behind who ultimately winds up being the undeniably perfect choice–gets revealed.
I mean…if I fall in love with someone’s performance–then I think it bodes well that the audience will too.
So, with all the preamble done–let’s take a deep dive into all the various audition mock-ups I’ve crafted over the past year with a friendly YouTube Playlist linked below that you can follow along with, along with a Google doc with my more in-depth thoughts on the auditions and current cast members:

THE FUTURE???
There’s a lot more I could say here about my intended plans for what’s to come with Year 2 of MMPR’96…but I’d rather get back to the actual grind, so I’ll sign off with this simple declarative statement before pulling a Jason and getting BACK TO ACTION!:
The Ranger Slayer: Parts 1-3
Late Spring/Early Summer 2026.
