Ace Attorney Cinematic Dub (Pilot Episode)

Ace Attorney Cinematic Dub (Pilot Episode)

Project Overview

Hello!

You may know us from our musical projects on YouTube - Undertale Genocide the Musical, and Night in the Woods the Musical, as well as multiple side projects. We still have our musical projects happening, and have our next one very heavily in pre-production, but I'd like to do a side dub project as well. That's what this is!

Ace Attorney is a very long game, and that's not even considering the subsequent 5 games in the series, or its various spinoffs! That's why, for now, I'd like to dub only the first case from the first game - The First Turnabout. Think of it as a pilot episode - if it is successful, we will go ahead and start a dub of the full first game, and all actors will be invited back, and another casting call will be posted for the rest of the characters in the first game. For now, the characters available to audition for are: Phoenix Wright, Mia Fey, Larry Butz, Winston Payne, The Judge, and Frank Sahwit. Audio mixers are also appreciated, but not mandatory.

Since this is a short-term side project, rather than invite you to a production server I'll be corresponding with the six actors directly and individually, whether that's via Discord, email, and so on. Should the project be successful and 'greenlit', as it were, for a full dub, all six actors will be invited to either the LemonLight Productions server or a separate server for this dub, depending on logistics and such at the time, and a full audition process will begin.

Disclaimers:
There are two audition deadlines - the 30th of May, and the 13th of June. The May deadline is the 'feedback deadline' - if you audition before this point, you will be given audition feedback and a chance to reaudition by the second deadline.

This project is completely voluntary and unpaid. As such, production deadlines will be very flexible and fit around your schedule as much as possible, rather than mine.

This project is not affiliated with any official ongoing LemonLight projects and any communication for the project will be done on a one-on-one basis through myself - basically, this isn’t an official LemonLight Production long-term project, it's just a small test dub, but it will be hosted on the LLP channel. However, if you are cast and should the project expand into a full LemonLight project, you will be automatically invited to keep your role without a second audition needed.

RULES:
-You must be 16 or older to audition for this project.
-You must have a decent mic, with little-to-no background noise.
-You shouldn't add any effects to your recording, including compression, reverb or EQ. Noise reduction, however, is fine.

Thank you for reading, and good luck with your auditions!

Latest Updates

  • Auditions Closed

Hello! The audition deadline for this project has now passed, and auditions are CLOSED. Thank you all for your auditions, I had a tough time picking from them because they were all mostly really good. I've got solid picks for 5 out of the 6 roles, and one of them is going to take just a little longer for me to weigh up the options and make a final call on. So expect the results later today! If you are cast, I will private message you and ask you to add me as a friend on Discord (or, if you don't have Discord, to open a line of communication via email) and from there, I will: - Give you the script - Work with you to find a deadline that's good for both of us - Answer any questions you have - From then on, provide weekly reminders for your deadline, and give you any updates on the project! Due to there being six roles and therefore six people being cast, I'm going to say that communication will be strictly text-based, as I will not have time to be able to individually call all six of you. (If I message you and do not get a reply within a few days, your part will go to somebody else) Thank you so much, and I hope to see some familiar names if we do open the second casting call sometime in the future!
  • Feedback Released!

Hi everyone! Feedback for everyone who auditioned by June 1st (even though the deadline was May 30th, I know, I gave a little wiggle room) is now up! I thought I'd post here, since I know CCC is pretty bad with notifications. Similarly, I've noticed I don't get notifications when somebody replies to my comments, so if you'd like to get in touch, PMing me would be the fastest way. This should be the last update until the casting, at which point, I will PM the auditionees I cast here on CCC, and ask them to get in touch with me via Discord. From there, we'll go through deadlines, scripts, and all of that, and start making the thing! So keep an eye out on your messages around June 13th! Thanks everyone!
  • Feedback for Payne and Sahwit is out!

Just a very quick update to say that I've given feedback on all auditions for both Winston Payne and Frank Sahwit, and I have a hopeful schedule of doing Larry and The Judge tomorrow, and finishing up with Mia and Phoenix on Wednesday. If you'd like to reaudition, just submit another audition for the character, and I'd appreciate it if you labelled it as 'reaudition' or something just so it's easier to find. Thank you everyone!
  • Reached Feedback Deadline

Hello! As of writing this post, the feedback deadline has now officially passed, any auditions submitted after this time (May 31st, 10am UK time) will not receive feedback, but will still be considered when it comes to the final casting after June 13th. I'm going to start replying with feedback tomorrow, and will hopefully be finished by the 3rd. However, I am giving myself until the 6th at the very very latest to make sure I don't rush it or overwork myself. Feedback will be given in a public reply to your auditions, and will be structured as such: - My thoughts on your fit for the character. - My thoughts on your acting skill generally. - My thoughts on your mic quality. - How you would improve in a re-audition. - (Potentially) Suggestions for other roles you should consider. Thank you all so much for your auditions so far!
  • Upcoming Feedback Deadline

Hello! Thank you all so much for so many auditions already! It hasn't even been two weeks and we're already close to 50 auditions! However, this update is more for people following the project who haven't yet auditioned but are still looking to do so. I mentioned in the announcement video on LemonLight and here on the casting call that there are two deadlines, one of them is coming up this Saturday on the 30th. If you audition by then, you will receive feedback on your audition - what I thought worked, didn't work, and what would need to be changed to improve your chances of being cast for your role. (Feedback will be given to everyone by June 7th at the latest). Based on that feedback, you will be welcomed to re-audition following up on my suggested improvements by the final deadline - June 14th. I know I've already mentioned all of this, but I wanted everything to be clear and to post a little reminder of it all! I'd also quickly like to mention that, while auditions have of course been incredible, I actually think some of you would be perfectly suited for other characters that aren't in this casting call! So if you aren't cast here, I may contact you in the future (providing this project is successful) about auditioning for other characters that are present beyond this initial test pilot. If you have any questions, you are more than welcome to comment or DM me here on CCC and I will respond as quick as I can! Thank you all so much for your interest so far!

Role assigned to: Pandapropaganda

Phoenix Wright is the protagonist and lead character of Ace Attorney, and as such, has the most lines. His emotions range from quite nervous, to cocky and confident, to emotional and serious, with the capability of screaming "OBJECTION!" at the top of his lungs.

  • Why did I become a lawyer in the first place...? Because someone has to look out for the people who have no one on their side.

  • Our school had a saying: "When something smells, it's usually the Butz." In the 23 years I've known him, it's usually been true.

  • (With power in the 'objection') OBJECTION! Proof enough for you, Mr. Sahwit? Or should I say... Mr. Did It!

Mia Fey is Phoenix Wright's respectable boss and mentor. Her voice ranges from confident and assertive, to warm and helpful, to stern and serious.

  • Lies always beget more lies!  See through one, and their whole story falls apart!

  • I think I feel a migraine coming on...

  • Wright? I hope you see the importance of evidence now. Also, hopefully you realize, things change depending on how you look at them. People, too. We never really know if our clients are guilty or innocent. All we can do is believe in them. And in order to believe in them, you have to believe in yourself.

Larry Butz is one of Phoenix's lifelong best friends, who's always getting himself into trouble. Speaking of trouble, he's also the defendant in this case. His voice should range from over-exaggerated and unnecessarily emotional to confident and oblivious to angrily defensive.

  • (after being asked whether he went to the victim's apartment on the day of the murder) Heh? Heh heh. Well, maybe I did, and maybe I didn't!  Who's to say? Gulp!

  • Hey, watch it buddy! We were great together! We were Romeo and Juliet, Cleopatra and Mark Anthony! I wasn't dumped! She just wasn't taking my phone calls.  Or seeing me... Ever.

  • (almost through tears) It's over, Nick, it's all over! Don't worry 'bout me! I'll be dead and gone soon!

Role assigned to: Suraht

Despite being listed here as a 'supporting' character, The Judge is one of the characters that appears most frequently across the series. He decides the fate of almost every case you play through in the main series. His voice should range from silly and confused to stern and serious.

  • Ahem. Mr Wright? This is your first trial, is it not? Given the circumstances... I think we should have a test to ascertain your readiness.

  • Please, Mr. Wright... Is "Huh" the best response you can muster up?

  • Your conduct during this trial will determine the fate of your client. Murder is a serious charge. For your client's sake, I hope you can control your nerves.

Winston Payne tends to serve as the 'tutorial' prosecutor in most of the main-series Ace Attorney games. His voice should range from cocky and confident to nervous and panicky.

  • You went to the victim's apartment on the day of the murder, did you not? Well, did you, or did you not?

  • OBJECTION! Wh-what's the meaning of this nonsense?!

  • Ahem. Mr. Butz. Is it not true that the victim had recently dumped you?

Role assigned to: ARedgrave

Frank Sahwit is the key witness in this case and, spoiler-alert, the actual murderer. His voice should be able to change from falsely sweet and happy to nervous and panicky to extremely angry at the drop of a hat.

  • I'm a simple newspaper salesman! Terribly sorry about the misunderstanding!

  • Ngh... grrrah! Gwaaaaaaaaaaaaah! Shutupshutupshutup! I hate you!

Any help with putting together the audio for the dub is appreciated, but not mandatory if unavailable. You should be able to time dialogue tracks just right so they sound realistic and characters flow from each other, and should be able to use vocal effects including reverb and EQ to give the dub an effective and 'lifelike' sound.

Please email demonstrations of this ability to lemonlightproductions1[@]gmail[dot]com if posting to casting call is unavailable.
