Accurate Japanese Sonic Dub
Project Overview
Hi there!
This is an audition call for multiple projects. My goal is to build an ideal voice cast for everything Sonic-related—specifically, a cast that matches or closely resembles the Japanese voices of the characters.
If you don’t know who I am (which I assume most of you don’t), I’m a YouTuber who makes videos about Sonic and the characters in their original Japanese context. I also do voice acting myself, and I came up with this idea as a fun and creative project. It helps me think more critically and work toward building an “accurate” cast that reflects the original Japanese voice actors. While it's mostly for fun, I do approach it with a semi-professional mindset.
You’ll be auditioning by giving your take on the voices. You can aim for near-perfect accuracy or focus on capturing the energy and feel of the character—totally up to you. That said, I’m personally leaning more toward accuracy. I may suggest slight reinterpretations, but those will be limited since the voices tend to stay consistent across media.
As I mentioned, this is for multiple projects. That means you won’t just be voicing for one-off content—you’ll essentially be cast in an ongoing (though casual) series. For example, my videos may include scenes from games or comics I feel could benefit from dubbing. It could be one scene, multiple scenes, or even an entire game re-dubbed to match the Japanese translation. I might even reach out for help with funny memes from time to time.
If you're cast, you’ve basically got the role locked in. You won’t be replaced unless you step away for personal reasons—or in rare cases, if I decide to switch things up (though that’s unlikely). I fully respect your time and effort, so I’ll make sure you’re paid fairly for your work. I’ll never reach out unless I know I have the budget
to pay you.
If you have your own rates for VA work, feel free to let me know! If not, here’s my base rate system:
1 line (for one project) = $10 base
Multiple lines = $1 per line (can vary)
Hourly rate = $20/hour
If you want to negotiate a price, we can definitely talk if you're cast. I'm very flexible as long as the rates aren't extreme.
If this sounds fun to you, go ahead and audition! I’m just a Sonic fan like many of you, with a special interest in the Japanese side of the franchise. I hold no opinions or views that would push anyone away from working with me—this is all for fun, creativity, and passion for the characters.

Also, just FYI: Sonic, Tails, and Eggman are already cast. I personally voice Sonic and Shadow, but Shadow could be recast if someone nails the part!

Knuckles The Echidna
- Guardian of the Chaos Emeralds on the floating island.
- A marsupial echidna. Nickname is "Knuckle."
- Short-tempered and reckless. But he's a good, kind guy.
- He is gullible because he is pure and honest.
- He doesn't hate girls, but doesn't seem to be very good with them?
- He can dig holes and climb walls with his special gloves.
- His hobby is digging holes, of course. He is a mole, after all.
- He is good at finding hidden routes.
- He can even fly for a little bit.
- Likes fruit. Hates strong sunlight.
Guardian of the Floating Island
Sonic Heroes:
Knuckles the Echidna (16 y/o)
He has lived alone on Angel Island since birth, guarding a giant gem called the Master Emerald, without knowing why. If Sonic is the “wind,” he is the “mountain” destined to stay in one place. Wild and tough.
He is stubborn and inflexible. He may see Sonic as his rival, but this may be because he admires Sonic’s free way of life. He is also a famous treasure hunter and martial arts expert.
It is his destiny as an Echidna to protect the Master Emerald.

Solebinku's Personal Direction:
The goal of course is to sound like Knuckles in the Japanese version but you maybe questioning how to do that. The best way to describe him is a tenor, he has a very calm normal voice that can pop out with growl in anger. He's mostly a loner with a short temper so he's usually calm but when he get's angry he's loud and furious. His voice isn't super high but it also isn't super deep like Frontiers, it would just be placed in your voice range with a little bit of height when talking. He doesn't specifically have any slang he mostly speaks like normal guy so don't do a Sonic Movie situation lol.
Just listen to the voice and study it until you think you got it. But overall have confidence but also a calmness to your take.

Amy Rose (12 y/o)
A girl in love with love who is full of energy and in constant pursuit of Sonic. Fashion-sensitive. A girl who doesn’t wait. But it’s hard for her to attract his interest.
She is a mood-lifter, a butt-kicker, and a go-getter for Sonic and his friends. Undeterred by adversity. A doer and a nimble thinker. She has a sharp instinct and a pure heart.
Sonic treats her like she is nothing more than baggage, but deep down he may not hate her.

Solebinku's Personal Direction:
Amy is just a bubbly high pitched anime girl. She's a strong soprano and has a very cute and ferocious voice. Her role has plenty of screaming but also plenty of casual ones filled with love. When she's thinking about Sonic she can get very squeaky but of course don't strain yourself. She speaks normally with no accent since she's just a normal tomboyish city girl.
But more then anything follow the Japanese and come up with your own. Just hold that peppy loveable excited attitude she is supposed to be 12 after all.

Sonic Heroes:
Cream the Rabbit (6 y/o)
A girl who is good friends with the Chao and always has her friend Chao “Cheese” with her. Younger than Tails, about 6 years old. She is a posh lady from a good family and was brought up like a princess, so she is very pure and honest. Strangely polite and even bows before fighting Eggman.
She works diligently hard at everything she does and is full of curiosity and thirst for knowledge. Because of this, she sometimes loses sight of her goals and gets others into trouble, but her natural honesty and charm make her hard to hate. She speaks in a courteous language with a bit of a lisp. Her favorite food is soft serve ice cream! She can fly by flapping her big ears.
Sonic Channel:
A kind-hearted, gentle rabbit girl who is best friends with Chao and always brings her friend Chao Cheese along. She’s a hard worker who gives her all to everything, with a strong thirst for knowledge and curiosity.
She can flap her large ears to fly through the air, and her tag-team attacks with Cheese are incredibly powerful, even capable of taking down Dr. Eggman’s robots.
Influenced by her refined mother Vanilla, she speaks in a polite, formal manner. Yet she endearingly addresses even villains with honorifics like “Mr./Ms.,” showcasing childlike charm in her speech and conduct.

Solebinku's Personal Direction:
With Cream make her sound like a kid that can feel soft spoken and polite. Her whole thing is her mother raising her to be a polite Japanese girl. It is also stated she has a small lisp so adding that is important. She says things like "Amy sama" which can mean Ms. Amy again that polite idea is important. But again don't forget she's calm spoken kid but can get loud when hit the right way.
Just listen to the Japanese and you'll get what I mean. Understanding the source will make your take sound pure and proper.

When his friend Froggy is kidnapped (?), he sets out to look for him again.

A laid-back, easygoing, and carefree giant cat.
His hobbies are sleeping, eating, and lure fishing.

He enjoys a relaxed life in the great outdoors with his beloved friend Froggy, but steps up when his friends are in trouble.

Solebinku's Personal Direction:
For big its easy sound as relaxed and deep as you feel needed. His voice is a male calm kind of voice that sounds super relaxed, almost to the point of sounding slow. He's a chill guy he never really shows any emotion he's kind of emotionless it's funny. He is also Tenor that is so relaxed he's a little bit of a bass.
Follow the Japanese to the point where you can find that relaxed flow. You'll definitely be having Lazy Days after that.

A black hedgehog that bears a striking resemblance to Sonic and is as fast as Sonic. He is the ultimate life form created by the genius scientist of the 20th century, Professor Gerald, and is endowed with an immortal body and the power of “Chaos Control,” a special ability to distort time and space using Chaos Emeralds.
Since the fall of the Colony ARK (*Sonic Adventure 2), it was unknown whether he was alive or dead, but he was found by Rouge at Eggman’s base.
After being released from the capsule, he has lost most of his previous memories.

Solebinku's Personal Direction:
With Shadow take a very anime approach with your take with someone like Sasuke and less Vegeta. Shadow has a tenor voice but makes it sound deeper due to being emo lol. But don't make him have some crazy deep voice though it's sounds off lol. He's only that deep due to sounding kind of unnatural/robotic but his actual voice is till in there. He only speaks in his normal voice in rare instances when he opens up, usually thinking about his identity or talking to Maria so it's rare lately. Don't add gravel to him make him sound as clean as possible kind of showing effort but also showing he's got this.
Overall you'll just understand more when you look at the games or the voice his voice and screams are very full and calm and collected. He's a very serious character with a no nonsense view and he's very quiet.

Kitschy and mysterious. Wild and sexy. She has a policy of always carrying out her assigned tasks and always acquiring what she sets her sights on. In particular, her obsession with jewelry is extraordinary.
Despite her seemingly frivolous appearance and behavior, she is highly calculating and a pragmatist to the extreme. She decides her actions based on profit and loss rather than justice and morality.
Sonic Channel:
A wild & sexy female bat who never lets her prey escape. A jewel-specialized treasure hunter and an exceptionally skilled agent (spy) contracted by presidents and military commanders.
She may appear frivolous at first glance, but she is very calculating and a pragmatist to the extreme. She bases her actions on cost-benefit analysis rather than justice or morality.
At the same time, her obsession with jewels is intense; she spares no effort for them.

Solebinku's Personal Direction:
With Rouge theirs not much to say she's a alto leaning on soprano. A lot of people including Sonic X made her sound deep like almost a Bass Alto which isn't correct. She's a young adult, flirtatious, calm headed girl, who can be cheeky and snarky at times. She's stated to be 17 so she's close in age but still young.
Remember the Japanese is there for reference. And also if you want to add an Hispanic accent to her you can. She is based off of Jennifer Lopez so even adding her voice would be creative.

Sonic Heroes:
The final lot number of the E-series robots built by Eggman, and the most powerful. Despite having the strongest power, Omega has been sealed up in the base for a long time, and he holds a grudge against Eggman for that.
He aims to prove himself “the strongest” by destroying all the machines created by Eggman, and to take revenge on Eggman who sealed him up. When Rouge awakens Shadow from his capsule, he is unsealed at the same time, and they work together. He has a strong body and two sturdy arms, and can transform his arms into various weapons for a variety of attacks.
The final lot number and most powerful unit of the E-series robots created by Dr. Eggman. He transforms his arm parts into various weapons, annihilating enemies with overwhelming firepower.
Having been sealed away for a long time immediately after his completion, he harbors intense hatred for his creator, Dr. Eggman. Omega’s purpose is to destroy all of Dr. Eggman’s machines to prove his own supremacy, and to exact revenge on Dr. Eggman for sealing him away.

Just make him sound deep and ferocious as a robot don't worry about making him sound robot like just add a filter lol. You can sound as animate as you want like heroes does, no need to be plain robot he has a fiery energy.

Sonic 3:
Vector the Crocodile (20 y/o)
A seemingly outlaw detective who is the head of the Chaotix Detective Agency. He is quick to fight and has a sharp tongue, and tends to solve problems by force rather than negotiation.
He is strong, tenderhearted and honorable. He will not leave people in trouble alone, and sometimes takes on problems that do not pay the bills. (For example, he will accept a single piece of candy to help a child with no money find a lost toy.)He has a clear mind, which is hard to imagine from his rough appearance and behavior, and he is usually the one who deduces the solution to a case.
He loves money and will do anything as long as long as he is paid well, but he will never get involved in any wrongdoing. He gets along with Espio and Charmy and leads them, and is an optimist. His trademark is his headphones.
Sonic Channel:
The head of the Chaotix Detective Agency and an optimist who has the qualities of a leader.
He is strong, quick to fight, and has a sharp tongue, but he is tenderhearted and honorable. He has a clear mind, which is hard to imagine from his rough appearance and behavior, and he is usually the one who deduces the solution to a case.
He loves money and will do anything as long as long as he is paid well, but he will never get involved in any wrongdoing. On the other hand, he can’t leave people in trouble, so he takes on requests that do not pay the bills. Therefore, the Chaotix Detective Agency is always poor.

Solebinku's Personal Direction:
With Vector its easy he's a Bass man with a growl to him almost Yakuza like. His character is a older though looking guy who tries to seem cool and young. So he gives off cooler old mam in a kind of goofy way. But he can be menacing as hell too and is smart and kind of energetic in that.
Look at the Japanese for a good feel and his loud mouth. So you can have a sense of bravado for sure when playing him. Think of a Yakuza boss as a tip.

If you don't already know who Espio is I'm gonna put his character bio from his first game in Japanese and here's Sonic Channel for safe keeping.
Sonic Heroes:
The analyst of the Chaotix Detective Agency. He is a chameleon with ninja skills. Taciturn, calm and collected. He has a stiff, military-like way of speaking. He is cautious to the point of going to extremes, but he occupies an important position as a weight on Team Chaotix, which tends to be optimistic and full of high-spiritedness.
He is the type who gets more passionate about dangerous missions and is quite confident in his ninjutsu, but he feels it is his credo to stay in the shadows, just like a ninja. (For example, even if he helps someone in need, he will never announce himself on his own.)
He is able to make himself invisible, but he sometimes makes the mistake of sneezing, which reveals his true form. His trademark is his large protruding horn and long, curled tail.

Espio is between a tenor and bass. He's like Shadow in his more stern way of talking but has a lot of weight to it, due to being said in a character bio he has a military way of speaking. He also speaks in traditional Japanese not modern so you can hear those differences. Like how one of his lines is "Level Rising!" which is not what everyone else says. They say level up, so due to his dialect he says things in a more traditional way so you can interpret that to be more traditional English or maybe try to add a Japanese way to it. As seen by "En garde!" it's traditional. Also leave the airy ninja behind they are usually a bit more though with a bit of silence.
So try and keep that Japanese influence and that traditional dialect in tact.

Sonic Channel:
The princess of the “Sol Empire” of another world and the guardian of the treasured article, the “Sol Emeralds.” Possessing the power to manipulate flames, she takes action herself when the world and its people face crisis.
Usually calm and composed, though this composure seems to mask emotions held in check by her rational mind. Her dedication to her role as guardian of the Sol Emeralds leads her to impose strict discipline and constraints upon herself, making her somewhat shy around others. However, meeting Sonic and the others appears to have begun changing Blaze’s mindset.
By gathering all seven Sol Emeralds, she can transform into “Burning Blaze.”
Sonic 2006:
Blaze styles herself as protector and controller of the Sol Emeralds (which are antithetical to the Chaos Emeralds). She comes from another dimension, where she plays a role similar to that of Sonic and Knuckles combined.
Normally very cool and collected, deep down, she harbors very real emotions. If she is angered and loses her composure, she can be a frightening woman indeed. She is shy and withdrawn, and puts up walls between herself and other people. (As a result, she ends up building up upon her own secret feelings.)
Typcially, she wears a cape. This is to hide the fact that her body can control flames, which she was treated strangely for when she was younger, and so she makes a point to only use it when necessary. When push comes to show, though, she will toss of her cape and become quite proactive indeed. She has a rather unique costume on under her cape, and it also seems that she is bothered by underendowed chest (comments on which will rouse her anger).

Now Blaze is a alto with a calm voice but it can perk up when making an insult or a strong yell. She's a reserved princess who learns to open up and can now speak freely with the friends she's made. She's kind of proper but not fully, the idea of being a princess is something she never calls herself but is serious when it comes to this duty.
Blaze is a fun one to do because she's not a quiet girl by choice but becomes more casual with a stern feel at times. Look at the Japanese for a good reference.

Ok so for Silver like Jet you have to have some anime boy tone to it. Silver is a middle calm tenor with a bit of innocence. He's just Future Trunks from DBZ so use that and his Japanese voice as a reference. He is known to be rude to adding that to his voice consciously or unconsciously is important. He isn't super high pitched like the dub but is more casual. Again cool anime guy but Trunks is pretty much it.

A slightly unusual badger girl who lives on the outskirts of a forest.
Since she has been living in the forest since she was a child, she lives a free and uncontrolled life, unaware of common sense. She is an excellent hunter and does not let her prey escape with her favorite boomerang.
She is good friends with Amy.

Stick is one that can go two ways. Since she wasn't made with the Japanese voice in mind the bud is 100% fine as a reference. But I do feel the Japanese is a cuter version and does fit with my goals.
