Career Killer: One-Shot Audio Drama (Recasting)

Career Killer: One-Shot Audio Drama (Recasting)

Project Overview

"Career Killer" is a one-shot audio drama set in the fictional Rockford City. Erik Klaus, a professional assassin, receives a contract to kill millionaire and social media influencer Emery Flowers. What starts off as a simple job becomes complicated with Erik learns that Emery not only expected him to come kill her, but that she claims to also have been the one who hired him. Realizing that killing his client will prevent him from being paid, but that not killing his target will tarnish his reputation as a professional, Erik is faced with a situation that is far more trouble than it's worth.

To audition for this project, you need:

  • A  good quality microphone and recording space. If your audio quality is subpar, your audition will be passed over, even if you fit the characters perfectly. Note that I'm not looking for perfect, professional quality (I understand that not everyone has access to that equipment), but it also shouldn't sound horrendous. In addition, do not do any editing to your audition yourself. Record it as dry (without effects) as possible.

  • A Discord account, or be able to make one if you are cast. Discord will be our main form of communication throughout the project's phases.

  • The ability to record into and send WAV files. MP3 is fine for the audition, but if cast, you need to be able to record and send WAV. If you need assistance with this and you are cast, I will gladly help you!

If you are cast for this project, you will be given a copy of the script and be given one week from the time casting is complete and the project officially begins to record all necessary lines and submit them. If you can get it done faster, that is not only encouraged, but greatly appreciated. However, do not rush! Take your time and do things right to minimize redos. You are also encouraged to ask any and all questions you may have in the discord.

This project is unpaid. If things go well and the project comes out great, you will be among the first considered for when offering paid work becomes a reality for me. I know that my word alone does not mean much, but your efforts and assistance are greatly appreciated both during and after production.

  • Game of Hearts is a one-shot about two friends, Sabrina Larson and Vivienne Shields, who meet up three years after graduating college to catch up over a card game titled "Game of Hearts".

  •  Interrogations is a teaser for an upcoming project about the death of Scott Williams, a star college football player, that is invested by Blake Bauer, in a bizarre case where all four suspects are women.

  • The Interview is a one-shot about a man, James Lombardi, who goes to a job interview for a job he found online. He knows little about this job other than where the interview is being held. His interviewer, a woman who refers to herself as "Applegate", seems normal... or is she?

  • TimeScape Training Tape is a one-shot, semi-immersive experience in which you, the listener, are a new potential recruit for TimeScape, a company that has learned how to record, distribute, and market the memories of people.

This project will be distributed through Anchor, which will further distribute it to a number of services such as Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, PocketCast, Breaker, and many more!

Latest Updates

  • New Character "Morrigan" added, deadline pushed back for final time

Hello everyone! If you received the previous update, you know that I wanted to make some changes to the script. One result of those changes was the addition of a new female character, "Morrigan". She is Erik's eye in the sky, if you will. A brilliant hacker who assists Erik with finding and learning about his targets... and his clients. As such, I've extended the deadline to Wednesday, November 20th, to allow time for Morrigan auditions to filter in. You can audition for both Morrigan and Emery, but note that you can only be cast as one or the other. I also want to take a bit more time to consider the auditions for Erik and Emery and make the best decision. There will be no more delays from here on out. Once casting is finished, we'll move forward! Thank you for your time and interest!
  • Deadline pushed back one day due to script changes

Firstly, thank you to everyone who auditioned for this project. Even with a few projects in my belt, seeing people audition is always humbling, so thank you. After going over the script a few times, I want to make some changes. The overall story of the project is the same, and the characters are the same as well, so it shouldn't affect any of you. I've extended the deadline one day to both allow for fresh auditions from those I've given critique to and also to allow me to be sure I am comfortable with the changes I make.

Erik Klaus is the main protagonist of this story. A professional assassin with as many targets as he has years under his belt, he prefers to do things quickly and "by the book". He's not quite fond of what Emery has pulled him into, and as such, he's very frustrated about the situation.

Some key notes about Erik:

- He is middle age and should sound as such. His manner of speaking should be calm, but gruff.

- He should sound frustrated, though NOT overly angry at the situation Emery has pulled him into.

Though his accent isn't too important, if you give him one, it shouldn't be too thick.

  • It's not uncommon for my target to know I'm coming. For my target to be the person who hired me, however... Now that is a first.

  • You really put me up the creek, here. If I kill you, I don't get paid, seeing as you're the client; however, as the mark, I can't let you live, either. Hitmen who don't get their target tend to also not get any more work.

  • You want to talk? Fine, I've got all night. First sign I get of any police or you calling for help, though, and I won't hesitate to take your life, payment or not.

Emery Flowers is the antagonist of this story. She is a wildly successful social media influencer that Erik was contracted to kill. Unbeknownst to Erik, Emery is the one who hired him to kill her. Emery has a lot of personality, and is intended to come off as conceited and a bit of an airhead.

Some notes about Emery:

- She is in her early 20's.

- She needs to have a loud personality, so watch your levels when recording to make sure you are not clipping.

- She is incredibly conceited and likes to talk about herself, often exaggerating her words/pronunciation when she does so.

  • Look, okay, I know why you're here. You were hired to kill me, right? But what if I told you that the person who hired you to kill me... was me?

  • Let's sit down and talk this out. I know it must be frustrating for you and all, but there's a reason I did this. Just hear me out.

  • You know who I am, right? Of course you do, who doesn't? I've got, like, 40 million followers! Even someone with a job like you has had to have seen this face at least once.

Morrigan is a friend of Erik's who has learned how to track people through her hacking skills. She is the one who provides Erik with the locations, habits, and traits of his targets.
Morrigan has a small role here, being on the phone with Erik at the beginning of the first scene.

Morrigan should sound focused and professional. She and Erik are friends second, associates first.

If you've auditioned for Emery, you can also audition for Morrigan; however, you can only be cast as one or the other.

  • Emery Flowers should have just returned from a meet and greet. She'll be in her hotel room and should be vulnerable, with being worn out from a long, stressful day. She won't be expecting you, and she won't put up much of a fight. Easy mark.

  • Just be careful when you're in there. The buyer didn't give us as much info as I'd like. My digging doesn't give any concrete reason why they want her dead, but-- (gets interrupted by Erik)

  • I'll be watching you from the outside, like always. Seriously, Erik, make it quick. She's a superstar, and a social media vixen, at that. Fans may have followed her to her room, so you need to be extra careful.
