Doctor W.D. Gaster is the royal scientist of the Underground, and has accomplished great scientific feats for the betterment of the kingdom. He's highly intelligent, thirsty for knowledge, and motivated to succeed to the point of self-destruction. He tries his best to be genial and friendly to his colleagues, and is generally well-meaning. But he becomes more and more manipulative and manic as he slowly becomes consumed by his greatest project yet.
